Whew!

in Interviews

I did a radio interview yesterday afternoon, my second. The host of a local station in Utah wanted to discuss my article, “Why Courting the Black Vote Won’t Work.” I was much more relaxed and professional (less stuttering!) than I was in the first one. The recording is not available online so I’ll try to upload it to my blog.

This host was also non-hostile. I’ve got a feeling that one day soon I’ll run up against a wolf in sheep’s clothing, pretending to agree with me and then…Bam! Suddenly I’m on the air defending myself against false accusations and an onslaught of loaded questions from crazy callers who “slipped though.” Maybe I watch too much TV.

Two great links:

1) Anyone who’s read Ann Coulter’s column knows she can be quite caustic. But she does get her point across. Read her latest about “President” John Kerry, “Just a gigolo.” He’s quite a character!

2) I’ve been reading Bill Maxwell’s column for awhile and I know my regular readers will enjoy some of his work. He’s conservative enough on some issues. In “Placing value on learning will save our kids”, Maxwell says that parents are responsible for their children’s failure in school, and he’s one of those rare black writers (like myself!) who doesn’t mind telling it like it is.

This failure on the part of black parents has little, if anything, to do with the area’s racial insensitivity. This a failure of personal commitment and responsibility. This is simple parental failure. Anyone who reads this column regularly knows that I am repeating myself when I say that blacks need to establish a good-parenting initiative as soon as possible. We need to make education the center of our children’s lives from the moment they are born.

Good stuff. Truth is powerful.
