“Brown U. forms panel to examine slavery”
Brown University President Ruth Simmons, a great-granddaughter of slaves, has established a committee to examine the school’s historical ties to slavery and debate whether the university should make amends….“What I’m trying to do, you see, in a country that wants to move on, I’m trying to understand as a descendant of slaves how to feel about moving on,” Simmons told the Times.
A black, female president of an Ivy League school wants to know how to “feel” about moving on. Moving on from what? Her great-grandparents were the slaves. She’s a free woman living in a free country who can go wherever she wants and do whatever she wants.
