It’s early! Browsing through yesterday’s headlines (I’m a day behind because I was swamped with work yesterday and today won’t be much better), I found quite a few interesting things. For example:
Random Tapings: Teacher resigns after allegedly taping student to desk: This poor woman snapped! A 21-year veteran of the government-run school system bound a student with duct tape and taped him to a desk. Apparently the kid has “attention deficit disorder.” Samantha over at Uncle Sam’s Cabin blogged about this the other week.
Random Indignation: Secretary of Education Rod Paige apologized for calling teachers’ unions terrorists. I was hoping he wouldn’t but knew he would. At least Paige stands behind his words even after the apology. He says, accurately, that teachers’ unions use “obstructionist scare tactics” in the fight over the nation’s education law.”
What are you doing on March 28? If you’re not too booked, come celebrate Black Marriage Day right here in the nation’s capital! I just might show up myself to get a few quotes for an article.
The woman who conceived of the idea writes for the Nation of Islam’s newspaper and is most likely a member, but whatever encourages men to marry the mother of their children, I’m all for it.
It was while doing research on a fatherhood story she discovered the 1999 Morehouse Research Institute document Turning the Corner on Father Absence in Black America. In this publication, Ms. Muhammad read that married men make more money than single men. That statement intrigued her to explore further. She asked herself, “Does anyone else know this?â€
That was the beginning of her quest to unearth a wealth of knowledge about the benefits of marriage.
Hey, every little bit helps.
Kudos to Mike S. Adams for his running commentary on rampant liberalism in public universities. This time he targets UNC-Greensboro, or “UNC-Gomorrah.” Warning: You may feel a bit nauseated after reading the column.
An excerpt:
While talking to the officers, I learned that UNCG is presenting its annual Gay Pride Week in March. Among the many highlights of this special week are a “drag queen day” and a “gay prom.” The university directly funds some of these events. Others are funded by private sources after employees paid by the university have initiated them using various university resources. None are completely free from taxpayer expense.
In response, the CRs [College Republicans] recently tried to organize a Morals Week to coincide with Gay Pride Week. When they tried to get equal funding and support, the university turned them down saying that they wouldn’t fund anything having to do with “morals.”
About two weeks ago, Adams exposed a liberal professor named Elyse Crystall, who tried to silence a student with morals. Crystall’s class is now being monitored by university authorities for the rest of the semester. She must be miserable!
Just kidding.
Check out this article about me posted on Enter Stage Right.
La Shawn Barber has a wide range of interests from the Civil War to a love of Agatha Christie to a fascination with the British Monarchy. A deeply religious person, Ms. Barber wrote about how she became a conservative: “Democrats! It was during the Clinton scandal that I realized I was aligned with the wrong party…I asked questions about conservatives and researched their ideology for myself instead of relying on what I was told. I found conservative principles to be more in line with my Christian worldview than the liberal agenda.” What is the “liberal agenda?”
Thanks, Robert Sargent, for making me sound important!
For a quick roundup of the media’s recent displays of bias, check out the Media Research Center (MRC).
In a section called Cyber Alert, MRC highlights some examples of left-leaning press. For example, Andy Rooney recently bashed Mel Gibson and his movie (scroll down to #3):
Four days after he used his 60 Minutes platform to denigrate Mel Gibson as a “wacko” and a “nut case,” Andy Rooney showed up Thursday on MSNBC’s Imus in the Morning and further insulted Christian believers as he belittled Gibson’s movie, The Passion of the Christ, and religious believers in general. Asked if he’d seen the movie which portrays the crucifixion of Jesus, Rooney derogatorily quipped: “I don’t want to pay nine dollars just for a few laughs.”
Bashing Gibson on Imus is one thing, but Rooney did the same on 60 Minutes, which purports to be a “news” show.
In another example, Diane Sawyer, a “news” anchor on Good Morning America, let Rosie O’Donnell rant about President Bush:
O’Donnell then charged that President Bush’s comments in support of a constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman, were “the most vile and hateful words ever spoken by a sitting President, in my opinion. I am stunned and I’m horrified.” Told by Sawyer that the First Lady noted how “same-sex marriage is a very, very shocking issue for some people,” O’Donnell called the amendment “shocking and immoral.”At no time did Sawyer point out how the leading Democratic presidential candidates say that they oppose same-sex marriage, nor did O’Donnell have an unkind word for them.
MRC links to a site called Times Watch, “dedicated to documenting and exposing the liberal political agenda of the New York Times.”
If you can handle the media’s hypocrisy and blatant disregard for objectivity, both sites are great resources.
