The Enemy’s Influence

in Child Killing, Faith

I attend a church on Capitol Hill. This morning as I parked my car and walked the few blocks to the church, I saw crowds of the “pro-choice” walking towards the “March for Women’s Lives” abortion rally on the National Mall.

When I saw all those women — young, middle-aged and old — walking toward the rally, I was angered by their indifference to God and for human life.

Before today’s sermon, my pastor asked us to pray for those who came to the nation’s capital for the rally. I was disappointed that he didn’t spend more time talking about it. I didn’t understand why this morning, but I do now, after a few hours of reflection.

People who kill babies or support those who do are no different from any other sinner. We’re to pray for the lost on the National Mall today and in all the world. We are called to share the Gospel and to pray for all unbelievers, even if we’re angry.

There was a guest pastor who delivered a message on the call to obedience to Christ and how our fear and faithlessness often complicates our obedience. What a “coincindence” it was when he made reference to the martyred Stephen in Acts 7, a believer stoned to death by a crowd. Before he died he cried out, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” Consenting to his death was a then-unsaved Paul, the great apostle who spread Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.

Lord, do not charge them with this sin. My call to obedience includes praying for the lost and and telling them the truth. They are under God’s wrath and Christ will return to judge the world.

I pray that God has mercy on them, the same mercy He’s shown me.
