As if we need further confirmation about liberal media bias, the Pew Research Center has come out with yet another survey confirming a liberal media bias.
Some black liberals like to call themselves “progressives,” while white liberals use the term “Moderates” to describe themselves. They want to be called anything but what they are: plain old welfare state-loving Democrats.
No progressives showed up in the survey, but plenty of moderates did. Thirty-four percent of national journalists surveyed said they’re liberal, although 54 percent purport to be moderate.
I haven’t done a fancy survey like Pew, but I intuit that most people who call themselves moderates are really liberals. That means a whopping 88 percent of journalists surveyed are liberals. Twelve percent are either not confessing or they’re conservatives.
So what’s wrong with media bias? Check out John Leo’s commentary, “Liberal Media? I’m Shocked!”:
In response to the survey, some argue that personal social and political views make no difference if a reporter plays the story straight. Well, yes. But nearly half of those polled told Pew that journalists too often let their ideological views color their work. This is a devastating admission, something like an umpire’s union reporting that half its membership likes to favor the home team. Even apart from loaded reporting, the selection and framing of news stories have a way of reflecting the opinions of editors. That’s why the steady march toward a more liberal newsroom is so puzzling. The news media have to cope with a declining readership and viewership and intense scrutiny of their wayward practices by right-wing outlets and relentlessly critical bloggers. Yet the mainstream media have only those few in-house conservatives who might warn their bosses when news reports are skewing left.
Why does the news business keep hiring more and more people who disagree sharply with the customers, many of whom are already stampeding out the door for a variety of reasons?
Because they’re deluded, John. It’s more evidence that liberals are out of touch with Americans. It’s high comedy when these surveys state the obvious, yet liberals out there still contend there’s no media bias. I recently wrote a column about this called The State of the (Liberal) News Media, which received the infamous telephone rejection from the liberal Washington Post.
Notice what’s near the top of the survey: Journalists think the press is “too easy” on George Bush. How credible is this assertion? If the media is mostly liberal, it follows that they’re anti-conservative (in the real world as opposed to a theoretical one). George Bush is a conservative; therefore, the media are anti-Bush. They needed a survey for this?
Warning: More shameless self-promotion ahead
If the media want to convince me they’re unbiased, they need to publish more articles like this one.
One of the great things about conservatives is that we don’t need euphemisms or code to describe who we are. We’re not afraid to admit we’re freedom-loving, traditional-thinking Americans who advocate individual liberty over group preferences at the expense of being called racists or “the white man’s mouthpiece.”
Moderates and progressives, admit who you are. Confession is good for the soul.
