The Last Bush-Clinton Lovefest Post

Based on the comments I received after criticizing President Bush for heaping undeserved praise on Bill Clinton, I need to set the record straight. In no way did I mean to imply that our president (who happens to be a Christian), leader of the free world, commander-in-chief of men and women fighting in Iraq, should have walked up to that podium, pointed at Clinton and said, “This man is a disgrace. He brought shame and dishonor to this office and this house.”

In my opinion, Bush could have simply read Clinton’s bio, talked about how honorable the Office of the Presidency is and how important the concept of freedom, thanked the Clintons for attending, shook their hands and smiled for the cameras.

The president needs new speechwriters or at the very least, feedback from ordinary people beforehand. He ran on the “I’ll restore honor and dignity to the Office” platform, and it was a disappointment to hear his effusive praise of the man who’d taken that honor away.

President Bush is in the middle of an election cycle of a contentious presidential race that’s bound to become nasty as John Kerry becomes more desperate. The last thing Bush’s base needs to hear is misplaced honor given to an impeached former president, who also happens to be an ally of his opponent and plans to help him campaign. A “nice”, standard, president-like speech would have sufficed.

Thank you for your comments about my appearance on The Savage Nation. By the way, I finally have an RSS feed.
