Although he doesn’t like President Bush’s “fascism”, Boston city council member Chuck Turner said Bill Clinton’s administration wasn’t so hot, either. “We would be foolish if we don’t realize that we have to be prepared to struggle with a Democratic administration.”
“Activists” in Boston are finding out what we’ve all known for years: Democrats couldn’t care less about blacks.
With younger blacks showing less ideological commitment to the Democratic Party — even as President Bush scores points with high-level minority appointments — the race for the black vote is “wide open,” said the Rev. Eugene Rivers of the National Ten Point Leadership Foundation.
Right, Rev. Rivers. “Wide open” means that disgruntled black liberals will either vote for John “Wanna-be-JFK” Kerry and John “Tom Cruise with a mole” Edwards anyway or stay home on November 2.
I know Republicans want a larger piece of that “black vote”, but I’m so glad they don’t need it to win elections. [Update: I need to clarify this statement. Unlike Democrats, who need black voters to win, Republicans have the leverage to reach individuals rather than pandering to a group. I believe the only way Republicans will make headway with certain voters is to appeal to individuals' dignity, faith and values, and not a false sense of group entitlement.] Can John-John appease these discontented blacks? Will they even try? Can’t wait to find out.
Speaking of JFK, Rich Lowry has a laugh-out-loud column about Kerry and Edwards.
