I have read many of your comments on this site and the thing that strikes me as odd, is the they vs. us mentality. How can we have any open dialouge if we contiune the name calling liberal, conservative, they are just titles let's give the man a chance before everyone's ready to throw him out on the streets I don't know about anyone else on this site but I take every issue as it comes and try my best to be objective and non-dogmatic I would agree the left as taken over the dem. party but the rep. have also been taken over. Ms. Barber also made a comment that I find just plain crazy when see basiclly said liberal's hate God, come on Ms. Barber.

I heard his speech - it was very dynamic and moderate. He was very passionate and smooth. He spoke with earnest caring and devotion. Then I went to his site and found that he espouses the exact same views every other liberal leftest stands by - he just toned it WAY down to appeal to the undecided voters as did everyone at the DNC (for the most part). If he were conservative - he'd have my note in a second. I'm afraid he's just another polished up liberal trying to make his party shine - alas it is a shame - such promise...

You got it, Andy.....they always make is sound sooo good, don't they? And all the while? Lie-lie-lie-lie-lie!!!

Looks like Osama's cousin from Illinois is more like Teresa Heinz-Kerry than we knew, from "african" lineage to anti-U.S. liberal political leanings.

Despite all the hoopla, CLEARLY he's your basic, run-of-the-mill, wolf in sheep's clothing.....or shall I say "liberal sheperd's clothing" - and lookin for black sheep. "Baaah! Baaah! Please lead me, please lead me!!" I think I'm gonna be sick.

· Wonder if Obama's attitude towards Iraq has changed now that some of his father's countrymen have been kidnapped for money to continue the "insurgency"

· Wonder if he knows he's supporting 100%, <a href="http://blackgenocide.org/negro.html" target="bg">Margaret Sanger's black genocide program</a> to control the black population.

Some rising star indeed. Thanks Beau.

Did anyone see this, from the Washington Times? Not that I'd done any research, but it appears that Mr. O-BAMA is not quite as moderate as he sounds.......just as I thought:

(You guys are gonna luvv that little snippett about "Planned Parentood".)

In fact, so enamored have many in the media been over this prodigy that many conveniently have overlooked the rather unsurprising fact that Mr. Obama is just another liberal. Consider the following:

    • In October 2002, Mr. Obama said that the buildup to the war against Saddam Hussein was just a political diversion concocted by Bush political adviser Karl Rove. Mr. Obama said that a "rigorous, multilateral inspections regime" would have been sufficient to contain Saddam Hussein.

    • Asked if he would support Howard Dean as the Democratic presidential candidate, Mr. Obama replied, "Absolutely."

    • Mr. Obama has been endorsed by the anti-defense organization Council for a Livable World, which supports cuts in defense spending and opposes missile defense.

    • Mr. Obama supports gun-control laws across the board. As an official at the Illinois State Riflle Association told us, "Mr. Obama is about as liberal as you can get" on the question of gun ownership.

    • Mr. Obama opposed President Bush's tax cuts and has said all of them should be repealed. Recently, however, he amended his position and now says that those tax cuts that benefit the middle class should be retained.

    • Mr. Obama supports affirmative action, opposes No Child Left Behind and school vouchers and has been endorsed by the Illinois Federation of Teachers.

    • Mr. Obama has received a 100 percent rating from the Illinois Planned Parenthood Council.

    • Mr. Obama is a critic of NAFTA and has said that the United States should "retool trade agreements to include protections for American workers and the global environment."

As his star continues to rise, we hope Mr. Obama will become the politician he pretended to be in his speech Tuesday night. Old habits die hard, though.

(Another Julian Bond in the making!!!)

I echo John's sentiments, adding that I'm beholden to no man, not even George Bush. It's a man's character and ideology that interests me, not his skin color or his "rise."

Obama was unknown nationally until Ryan dropped out. Let me put it this way: I'd never heard of him.

Sean, not sure we're trying to bring a brother whose rising - down (if he's rising, a few blogger aren't going to keep him down - unless they enough of them vote in his district).

I hope the brother finds a limitless horizon.

With that said, I read lots of news feeds, but like it or not, it wasn't until the Ryan thing that I heard about this fellow. He wasn't national news until then. Up to that point he was a democrat challenging a republican in some local press(as I see it), never heard anything about him on News I catch.

Best of luck to the brother.

One more thing. Thank you for reminding me of my display of ignorance. For it was Thoreau who said:

"How can we remember our ignorance, which our growth requires, when we are using our knowledge all of the time?"

Peace,

nice job tearing down a black man on the rise. [/disappointment]

how can people here say that nobody had heard of obama until ryan screwed up? anyone who follows politics knew he had a big lead over ryan before the sex stuff came to light. this was then and is now a big story because obama stands to become the ONLY black man or woman in the senate and only 1 of 4 minority members (hawaii has 2, if that counts since they are in the majority in their state).

i get the sense that a lot of people replying to you are not following the news very well because of the ignorance displayed in this comment section. i suggest that people visit http://news.google.com where you can read current events from over 4,000 sources. this way, you can stick to more conservative sources if that's your preference, but at least you are presented with a more complete story...whether you choose to take advantage of that resource is your choice. close mind / open mind...good luck making that decision.

Jesse is loooooong past his prime. The day he went on TV and defended a bunch of high school (or junior high) thugs who got into a brawl at a school game, I knew he was over. The boys were expelled, as they should have been, and Jesse cried...racism. Appalling.

Jim,

You might be on to something about the gleam in cHillary's eye.

Peggy Noonan, in writing today's <a href="http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/?id=110005412" target="ojc">OpinionJournal article</a> validates Jerry's comment: "<i>At one point the C-Span cameras went to an unhappy looking Jesse Jackson in the stands. He looked like he was thinking, "I don't remember passing a torch." But it was passed.</i>"

Between being the "wife" of the 1st "black" president (BPOTUS?), and marrying up with a rising BlackStar, who needs Jesse's posse or Al to capture the black vote?
