Those who agree with the socialist creed need to read “Losing the Race,” by John McWhorter. The problem is socialist policies and “group think.” Individual responsibility and personal liberty are the means to economic freedom.

Steve, you should have used scare quotes around adults;). Those hippy professors simply refused to grow up–something about never-never land.

Speaking of German politics. Youth leading the youth, reminds me of when Ernst Reuther was campaigning for Mayor of West Berlin (back in the cold war days) and was accused of being a communist. His response: “To be a communist as a youth is to be an idealist, to be a communist as an adult is to be a fool”.

Needless to say, he coasted on to victory and developed a cold warrior rep.

A few years ago, Joschka Fischer, as the head of the Green Party, also had his “Reuther” moment while vying for a Red/Green coalition leadership spot. Back in the ’70s, on national news film, he beat the crap out of a policeman, sending him to the hospital during one of the commie-hippy riots. Since then, the riot police are better protected with state of art equipment and Herr Fischer is now Germany’s Foreign minister. He got a pass on that crime because it was sincere youthful exuberance. Go figure.
