One thing, however, that I have never heard until the comments section here is that the documents could have prevented 9/11. That is news to me. I did not realize Berger had some sort of time traveling device so he could steal documents over two years after an event, but nevertheless possibly effect the outcome of that event. Shocking!!!!

I do not think this compares at all with the Abu Ghraib story. Even at the basest level of media scrutiny–the Abu story presents something very sexy for the public: pictures of brutal acts. The fact that it went against everything the war was about: human rights, freedom, end of tyranny, etc., makes it all the more newsworthy. The continued stories were about how widespread these atrocities were, whether or not they were ordered from the top.

Another possibility: the news reports on stuff people care about. Right or wrong, how many people really care about the Berger stuff? As I haven’t done a poll or seen the Neilson ratings for stories about Berger, Abu, etc., I really do not know the answer.

Lastly, the anger about Berger should be directed at the Justice Department, because they are responsible for the investigation and any subsequent prosecution.
