Expatise,
I think what commenters meant by "could have prevented" was that if the Clinton Admin had acted decisively on the reports, 9/11 may well have be aborted. Sandy Berger, as the National Security Advisor had scrawled "NO" on next to a suggestion to take out Osama when the CIA had him in their sights. That much was given out in the 9/11 report.

Our question is what else did clintonistas naysay with regards to preempting or otherwise nipping terrorism in the bud?

Plus the overriding issue is mishandling of codeword documents, that had it been you or me, or any other low level peon, we'd been spreadeagled, tossed in solitary, until the authorities figure out what was compromised, then sent to Leavenworth to make little rocks out of big rocks. But Berger 's above the law and gets a get-out-of-jail-free pass and perhaps $200n for his trouble

From everything I have heard, it seems that what berger did was horrible, but I hear very conflicting reports as to what was taken as well as the charge that he stuffed them down his pants (as if that matters--he either took them or didn't). I also hear conflicting reports of whether they were copies of originals or not, and why they were taken. No side seems to present enough for me to believe it over the other. I am stuck in the middle. I won't let my partasinship define a crime.

One thing, however, that I have never heard until the comments section here is that the documents could have prevented 9/11. That is news to me. I did not realize Berger had some sort of time traveling device so he could steal documents over two years after an event, but nevertheless possibly effect the outcome of that event. Shocking!!!!

I do not think this compares at all with the Abu Ghraib story. Even at the basest level of media scrutiny--the Abu story presents something very sexy for the public: pictures of brutal acts. The fact that it went against everything the war was about: human rights, freedom, end of tyranny, etc., makes it all the more newsworthy. The continued stories were about how widespread these atrocities were, whether or not they were ordered from the top.

Another possibility: the news reports on stuff people care about. Right or wrong, how many people really care about the Berger stuff? As I haven't done a poll or seen the Neilson ratings for stories about Berger, Abu, etc., I really do not know the answer.

Lastly, the anger about Berger should be directed at the Justice Department, because they are responsible for the investigation and any subsequent prosecution.

You can add hspace and vspace (such as hspace="4pt" vspace="4pt") to control the space between the photo and the text.

vspace is above and below.
hspace is right and left.

The text is inline because La Shawn chose to add align=left which will wrap the text around the picture.

I'll crawl back in my geek cave now.

You're welcome. Now I'm curious: was sort of wondering how you're gonna wrap the text around the photos? Hmmm, and about the content text slamming against the borders?

I find it amazing that the media jumped all over Abu Graib the way it did (it was a horrible thing to happen, but a lot worse is happening all over the world right now), and yet Sandy Berger has hardly gotten any attention at all. "Oh, yes, he stole some confidential docs that could have prevented 9/11, so what, next..."

Imagine the fury if Condi Rice had done that.
