Republicans Are Mean To “Homeless”

Stories like this one aren’t even worth commenting on, but I’ll do it anyway. In “GOP Convention To Move Homeless From Penn Station”, we’re treated to the heartwarming tale of J.W. Ballantine, a 77-year-old bum…I mean “homeless person”, who has to pack up his stuff and move to another outdoor location.

Ballantine’s life is about to get much harder now that the Republican National Convention is coming to Madison Square Garden, directly on top of the train station where he usually sleeps. Ballantine, and hundreds of other homeless people like him, will be moved out from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2 while the convention takes place.

“They think homeless people are eyesores,” Ballantine said. [Most are, at least in D.C] “They want to hide them so tourists don’t see them.” [Tourists provide the revenue on which taxes are assessed, which in turn pay for "homeless shelters", J.W.]

Security is already high in New York City, and homeless people worry that even tougher convention security will force them to the city’s fringes — far from the outreach workers trying to help them.

I have sympathy for the homeless and all that, but have you ever had the displeasure of being cursed out by a “homeless” person because you wouldn’t comply with demands for cash? Why any city tolerates vagrants sleeping on its streets is a mystery to me. Maybe I’m just slow.

By the way, I may blog this week about responses to “Jesus Was A Liberal.” The Bible illiteracy I perceived from responses to the post on other blogs and comments is sad.
