This is what’s known as an “unnecessary lie”:
“What does it mean when Mary Ann Knowles, a woman with breast cancer I met in New Hampshire, had to keep working day after day right through her chemotherapy, no matter how sick she felt, because she was terrified of losing her family’s health insurance? America can do better. And help is on the way….” [John Kerry said]Mary Ann Knowles did not have to work through her chemotherapy for fear of losing her health insurance. Employed by Elderhostel, the Boston-based non-profit travel organization for people 55 and older, Mary Ann had 26 weeks of paid disability at her disposal. More was available for a long-term illness. She did not have to work through her chemotherapy. She chose to.
Knowles would have lost some income had she taken the disability leave, said her husband, who is unemployed. But she would not have lost her health insurance, as Kerry has repeatedly misstated.
Bill Clinton used to lie unnecessarily, too (remember his story about witnessing church burnings as a child?).

That is just sad. More and more this man is reminding me of my ex-husband, who also lied for no reason whatsoever, and it makes me want to vomit. Compulsive liars… sickening.
AMAZING!
That’s all I can say right now!
This Dem Ticket is amazing. And the amount of people that I’ve hear talking about them in the White House baffles me to the point that my head hurts!
There’s no substance to anything the Kerry folks say whether its the candidates or the followers!
(Ut-oh I feel a self-induced-rant-a-comin-on!)
Ok lets describe success as being able to finacially take care of yourself and any babies produced by you.
I don’t want the equality that these Candidates are proposing. I spend a LOT of time ensuring that my life is unequal when compared to others who do not wish to do the things necessary to create a prosperous, successful life!
I went to college with a college class of 1985. Some of those folks dropped out, some Flunked out. If they haven’t created a successful life for themselves given the choices they have made, why should they expect equality in lifestyle to the graduates (or non-grads) who have made something happen in their lives to generate a successful life.
I DON’T want to be equal to those not willing to work, to create, and/or to excel!
Question, to obtain equality (in the Kerry/Edwards world), wouldn’t you have to take the best and the worst, bring them to equilibrium thus creating average?
Hmmmm, Mrs Heinz (Kerry) wouldn’t mind giving up her superior lifestyle for average one? (she makes over 200k doesn’t she).
Wow, so the Edwards are going to settle for an average lifestyle too (yep he’s relate-able alright)?? I wonder how much of his est. 60 million he’s going to give up?
I’ve worked up an appetite!
Thank Goodness Football Season (OK pre-season) has started! I can escape!!!
{to coworker} Hey, man when do the Ravens play?
I’m out!
The problem is that Kerry’s Mary Ann incident is just part of a larger issue.
Even if the Mary Ann thing is bogus, the fact remains that there ARE people who run the risk of losing their jobs or benefits when they (or a family member) get seriously ill. No one is looking out for those people.
Without a grandfathering system in place that would allow people with medical issues to transfer insurance easily (while being financialy feasible, too) in the event of a job loss or benefit loss, no one is immune from potantially losing benefits and not being able to get them anyplace else.
Also, why not throw the whole system open to nationwide competition and let the market dictate fees? This regional protectionism is making it more difficult for people to get decent rates. Where I live, a healthy family of three gets walloped with about $800+ a month bill on COBRA without even adding dental or vision. You can try to carry an individual family policy for less, but if even one person has any kind of modest regular health care needs–even two or three prescriptions–you may be turned down. How many families can take a monthly hit of $800 or more for health care?
Stop the trial lawyers who advocate for huge malpractice payouts. Stop forcing doctors to carry six figures worth of individual malpractice coverage; instead push for the AMA or other medical organization to carry a pooled insurance for all doctors who qualify for the protection. And doctors, stop gouging the insurance companies. There’s no reason that a ten minute visit with you to get a sinus infection checked should cost $150 or more. For years I went to a doctor who charged $12 a visit–and he did his own paperwork (until the insurance companies made that impossible with all their bureacracy.)
The system can be fixed if all the greed was to be hacked out of it. But maybe I am putting too much stake in basic human decency–if it still exists.
DLE – You are correct, but the point can’t be missed that Kerry does this sort of thing habitually. That people lose their insurance is a separate, but important, issue. Throwing the system open to nationwide competition is a good idea. I agree with your last paragraph, too.
John – Go Panthers!
Oy. You’d think you’d get used to stuff like this, but I never do. And, yes, I remember the ‘church burnings’ meme of Clinton’s. At least Bill could lie convincingly.

Yes, I remember the burning church lie so very well. It proved to be only the tip of the pathological liar’s iceberg. Serenity is posting on ‘lying’ today too. Wonder why we’re all thinking about dishonesty right now?
I’m not surprised. I had a feeling when Kerry was telling us this story that it was not true. Good job at ferreting out the real story. These guys need to stop making up this crap because they can’t get away with it anymore, thanks to the internet.
You know it’s amazing to me that little lies told for the point of supporting an issue are just overlooked. Then the Dems have the audacity to call the sitting president a liar (def: one that tells lies; as in repeatedly and often). So, when we use the definition of liar, who is and who isn’t? The only thing that liberal people have against GWB is speculation. They can’t point to a specific event of the man speaking, point out something specifically he said, and counter it with evidence that shows he specifically twisted a portion of it. Oh, yes they say “WMD, WMD” but the president was acting on the best, most credible evidence he had at the time and that has been proven.
I think it goes even deeper with The Dork, considering him & Edwards ate at some fast food joint – was it a Wendy’s? – recently, only to find out that it was strictly a photo op designed to trick the less-aware electorate.
The problem? The food was from a nearby yacht club, food that was not so demeaning to their status, though those two rich cats would love us to believe they’re one of us. Just be yourself, if you’re a MANLY man, that is……….leads me to me main point.
Michael Jordan may’ve described the wannabe president best when referring to his Chicago Bulls General Manager Jerry Krause, sayin “Jerry lies about things that my 4-year old daughter lies about”…………petty, gratuitous, and silly lies. Minus the innocence, of course, with alot of bad intentions. Need I say more? What a dork.
Speaking of bad intentions, this is one of the few times I differ with Lashawn, as I DON’T believe he’s TRULY a good man. Maybe it’s a “guy knowing guys” thing, but I know that we – good men – simply don’t come with bad intentions, be they in disguise or stated up front.
And that boy Kerry lies like the devil, so no wonder Osama Bin Laden, Anwar Sadat and Yassir Arafat love ‘im so much.
Oops, my bad!! They already bum-rushed the stage & shot up Sadat…….love that fear & intimidation of the muslim religion.
The liberal mind has almost completely lost its moorings (there are exceptions) and it now allows anything in service of the larger cause. As a result, it is not reality but intent that matters. It doesn’t matter that Michael Moore, John Kerry, or any of the other liberal icons lie, because their “intent” is good (read agrees with our agenda).
This is a dangerous time for our country with almost 40% of the population drifting into La La Land, while the most dangerous events since World War II are unfolding. Unbelievable and sad.
Your attitudes are refreshing. Kerry gave 0.07% of his income to charity. Instead of taking his $26.9 million in earnings directly in the following four years, Edwards paid himself a salary of $360,000 a year and took the rest as corporate dividends. Since salary is subject to 2.9% Medicare tax but dividends aren’t, that meant he shielded more than 90% of his income. That’s not necessarily illegal, but dodging such a large chunk of employment tax skates perilously close to the line. They LOVE the poor!
