Blessed Assurance

in Faith

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above,
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Hi LaShawn,

How sweet it is to know that Jesus is our Savior and one day we will see all of His glory in heaven. God has called you to such a time as this, to be the voice of Truth. Stay true to your convictions and keep writing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Shannon – Tell my niece I said “Hello!”

That was just beautiful! It’s nice to see something so refreshing in the midst of depressing political news. If only more people kept their eyes focused on God, politics wouldn’t be so dreadful.

Amen…

That is one of my favorite hymns. “Oh what a foretaste of glory divine.” I must often recall that I have tasted and it has been good. The appetizer is always tasty, but never as satisfying as the main course. What a feast it will be!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful, theologically accurate hymn, La Shawn.

Good prep for tomorrow morning :)

Great hymn. I love the theological balance of this hymn. In fact, I am rediscovering the hymns and their theological balance in light of the latest ‘metaphorical metaphysical chrouses’ that the vineyard / third wave / riverite crowd gave us since 1994 when the Toronto Blessing took place.

It is truly a beautiful hymn. :)

Saturday night I was listening to a radio station that plays old hymns. “Blessed Assurance” was one of the songs, and for the first time, those words really sunk in. I realized just how unworthy I am before God. How good He is to a wretch like me!

After I got on the blog, I saw Blessed Assurance and decided to look up the music for it so that I could play it on my guitar. Although I am a horrible singer and a mediocre musician, I found the chords and began ’singing’ and ’strumming.’ It was great. Thanks.

I love God’s timing. I hadn’t heard this hymn in a long time then we sang it in church today, then I come here and here it is again.

Filled with His goodness, lost in His love…

La Shawn, have you ever heard the hymn “Before the Throne of God Above” by Charite Lees Bancroft? It’s incredible. Thanks for posting one of my favorite hymns…so encouraging!

La Shawn 08.16.04 at 2:30 pm

Hi LawWife – I’ve probably heard it before but can’t recall it now. I hated hymns growing up (what kid likes listening to hymns?), but I like them now that they mean something to me.

Look it up, if you have a minute. If you didn’t mind, I’d post the lyrics here (it’s public domain), but I wouldn’t want to take up too much space.

one of my faves too

Yep. One of my favorites too. When it goes into the chorus, I sometimes get choked up.
