The world gets more bizarre everyday, people! Did you hear about what James Carville said on the Don Imus show? According to NewsMax.com, Carville said the Republicans drugged Zell Miller after his convention speech. Why is NewMax.com the only one reporting this?
Frothing-at-the-mouth Democrat attack dog James Carville is accusing Republican Party officials of drugging Sen. Zell Miller for media appearances after his speech to the GOP convention last week.“They probably shot him up with something,” the wild-eyed Ragin’ Cajun insisted Wednesday during an interview with radio host Don Imus….
“They got that poor man in the twilight of his career and just used him,” the former Clinton adviser insisted. “They said, ‘Look, go up there and say this,’ and they handed him a bunch of documents.”
If Carville said this, it is slander. Can someone please confirm? I can’t find the show on Imus’s web site. If he said it, I have my rant ready to roll. If he didn’t, I’ll pack up my ammunition and go home.

Yes.
I don’t know if he did or not but it sounds like he would make such a statement, especially since he has been making excuses for Mr. Miller since his appearance on Meet The Press. He spoke as if Zell Miller was an 8 year old child being coerced by his parents to recite the 23 Psalm in front of the church congregation. He simply cannot admit that Mr. Miller actually believes what he said, and said it of his own volition. It was quite pathetic.
Hi La Shawn-
I have been a reader for over a year and really enjoy your writing and comments.
I listen to Imus when I am taking my daughter to school in the mornings on my way to work and the comments made by James Carville were pretty incredible – I think even Imus was at a loss for words! Yes, the quotes you have on your entry are correct.
I seem to remember Zell Miller, in one of his post-speach interviews, saying that he had carefully checked all of the facts as he WROTE HIS SPEACH to be sure there was no credible challenges by the (liberal) media.
I’m not all that familiar with Carville since I’m from Philly and have lived in Kentucky the last five years, but from what I have heard, there is no real substance to anything he says. He was called in to step up the rhetoric and help fire up a sputtering campaign. To borrow from another rajun’ cajun’: Carville job appears to be to ‘kick it up a notch’ (but not with facts or any kind of policy…).
One word answers for a thousand Alex.
What is YES?????
I think even Imus was at a loss for words!
This must be why the show isn’t in the archives.
Gosh, I was just about to say the same thing about the Kerry campaign’s hiring James Carville: “They got that poor man in the twilight of his career and just used him.”
Wow. Y’know, I asked a similar question about Sen. Zell Miller a few days ago on this blog, referencing his hyperbolic speech during the convention. Later, I checked out MSNBC and learned of his issues with Chris Matthews. I don’t believe Mr. Carville was anymore serious than I when he wondered aloud about Sen. Miller’s health.
However, I believe the only narcotic Se. Miller was hopped up on was fear. Fear for his nation, his family, himself. Fear will make people make statements and commit actions unworthy of themselves, their families, and their country. Sen. Miller’s recent RNC Keynote Address, with all of its incorrect facts and obvious misinterpretations reminds all citizens of this nation of the dangers of irrational surrender to the base instinct of terror-induced fright.
When someone is too scared to think, they might act like a crackhead.
Even if it is slander (and you have to prove that Carville was asserting fact, not merely opinions), Miller’s a public figure, so under the standard of New York Times v. Sullivan, Miller would have to show that the statements were made by Carville when Carville knew that the statements were false or with reckless disregard for their truth. It’s tough to prove. To make it hurt, Miller would have to prove damages. Is it harmful or helpful to be slandered by James Carville? I’d say it’s a badge of honor.
I saw Carville on the Today show today with Al-Quaeda Couric. He made Miller look like he was on thorazene. If I were the Republicans, I’d pay Carville to keep on the attack. Maybe Hillary and Bill advised Kerry to unleash him in order to better secure Hillary’s chances for 2008 by making certain there’s not a Democratic incumbent in the White House. If so, Carville’s doing a great job.
Anyone suprised that James Carville made a clearly insane statement has not been paying attention to the clearly insane statements James Carville has made his entire career. I beg your pardon, Ms. Barber, but I calls ‘em as I sees ‘em.
Sorry Carville, that dog won’t hunt.
“What’s it got in it’s pocketses?”
You know something has got to be just ‘beyond insane’ when a nice lady like La Shawn asks if someone is on CRACK!!
LOL!!!
And for the record, it’s either crack or someone smacked him in the head with a ball-peen hammer…..it’s the same effect.
Shame. I respect Carville, but he is clearly insane.
Thanks for the comments, everyone!
That’s funny, Mike.
The reason I asked is because he made the accusation on a national radio show that has millions of listeners. He’s crazy.
However, if he’d said it on Air America…
Maybe Carville is also hopped up on fear, as Mr. Lamb, Jr. insists Zell Miller was. In Carville’s case, that might be fear of a Bush victory in November. For many liberals, that fear must outweigh the fear of terrorism.
Carville’s comments hardly equate to slander. An elementary definition of slander is a false tale or report maliciously uttered, tending to injure the reputation of another. You have to have all of the elements before you get slander. First, Carville accuses someone (unnamed Republicans) of doing something to Miller not the other way around. If there was an instance of slander it would be the Republicans and not Miller who were slandered. (This assumes you make a distinction between the two.) Second, Carville’s comments weren’t malicious. They didn’t serve to injure Miller. Third, no one listening to Carville’s comments would believe that Zell Miller is a drug user, so there is no harm to Miller’s reputation.
Now if you want some examples of slander you might want to recall some of the things said about President Clinton and his wife. You remember the accusations that they murdered Vince Foster, Ron Brown, and about a half dozen other people?
That’s funny. I thought I banned you for two inappropriate trackbacks, Nate.
And that was Zell’s toned down speech.
Unfortunately for Mr. Lamb, there are quite a few dems who agree with Zell.
A kind-hearted conservative. That’s why I love you Ms. Barber.
So you say all sorts of insulting things about BCs in a post, then track it back to my blog. I asked you not to do it again and you did it again. You think conservatives or Christians, for that matter, are fools for your amusement, Nate? Kind- or evil-hearted, take your pick because it doesn’t matter to me, I’m not having it. Go play on someone else’s blog. If you want hits for your site, there are plenty other BC bloggers who’ll put up with you so go bother them.
Oh, my. After reading your last comment La Shawn I think I owe you an apology.
Meanwhile, what kind of drugs are the execs at CNN on leaving Carville on the air now that he is “unofficially” advising the Kerry campaign…?
CNN, formerly the Clinton News Network? They’ve been in the tank for the DNC for ages… since before FOX news channel even existed.
That they would keep him on the air is no less shocking than CBS using its ‘news’ shows to promote books published by its sister company… or to fail to have a document expert check out documents that appear as if by magic… and like the books, attack the sitting president of the USA.
Not shocking at all. What is shocking, is that it has failed to be shocking for so long…
James, please cite or provide any refutation of Zell’s speech.
Zell’s mad because his party was hijacked by a gang of moonbats over the past 12 years since his keynote speech on Slick Willy’s behalf. Afterall, it was Zell that practically put DINO in the dictionary with his book “A National Party No More: The Conscience of a Conservative Democrat” long before Kerry and Dean became household names.
Carville isn’t the only Dem. saying this. There was someone(can’t remember who) on Scarborough Country who said it seemed like Zell was on drugs the night that he spoke. The same guy went on to say that Zell seemed like he was suffering from dementia. I thought he was well-spoken, forthright, logical and clear in his speech. Those definitely aren’t the signs of dementia.
Chill guys. Anyone who listens to the Imus program knows it
is mainly sarcastic humor with current news, prominent guests, and sports inserted as material for more sarcastic commentary and humor, mostly personal.
Carville’s comment about “Zell being drugged by the Republicans” was not intended to be taken literally, but humorously. Carville’s comment was serious about trying to neutralize the devastating speech Zell make at the Convention by questioning his emotional condition and stability. This is another of many salvos you have heard fired at Zell as part of the coordinated democratic strategy to kill Zell’s message by killing Zell.
Limbaugh made the point yesterday that Clinton’s polling numbers before his second term were much better than before his first. He used Carville the first time and Dick Morris the second. Hmmm..I don’t put too much stock into the “Hillary is trying to sabotage the Kerry campaign” theory, but I do wonder sometimes if there might be something to it………as in send in Carville to make things look even worse for Kerry.
Ya’ll have pretty much covered it, and I’m speechless. Thanks aLOT for stealing my glory……….okaaaaaaay – I’m late. But I do have one inquiry.
Now, I am crazy about this lady. Good catch written all over her, but:
Did someone drug Mary Matalin at the altar?
Better still – is it just me, or is that the oddest of odd couples in history?
Dude is a hillbilly psycho if I’ve ever heard one. And I’ma leave it at that…….you knowww how I get sometimes. (WINK)
Ciao, Bloggies.
And GO MIAMI HURRICANES!!! FSU Seminole beatdown tonight. See you at the Orange Bowl. WooHoooooooo!!!
I don’t see what Mary sees in him.
Rep J,
Mary M see’s herself reflected off his dome, that’s what she sees.
Beau,
He may not be a hillbilly psycho. Like Swayze in RoadHouse, he may be a crazed redneck or deranged hillbilly (thx MST3k)
I heard Sean Hannity talk about it yesterday on his show. ( 9-9-04). How insane of james carville…..the guy just doesnt let up. He needs to realize this isnt the 90’s where you could get away with the outlandish garbage he spews out and get away with it.
I do not believe Zell was shot up with anything. THE DEMS CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH ABOUT THEIR CANDIDATE. And that is what Zell gave them, that night….the truth!
I have two thoughts:
1. I’ve noticed, since Miller’s speech, that the leftist media is incapable of discerning the difference between “angry” and “impassioned”.
2. Anyone who would pay serious attention to anything said by Carville is gullible indeed.
Thank you all for confirming that I do NOT have my head….uh, let’s say “somewhere that it does not belong”. Liberals have GOT to do better than Jimmy Carter & Komodo Dragon Lizard Face – or whatever Mary calls him – when they want to attack a principled, God-fearing man like Zell.
A democrat that even I could vote for, one that totally ticked off by being played for a fool own party…….the new democrat party of 1992. Hah!!! (Yo Zell! Bill gotchu too, ay? Suckerrrrr! You’re forgiven.)
*********
Dear Honorable Mr. Wuzzy,
I can accept that, Sir, as your point is well taken. Can we settle on Crazed Psychopathically Deranged Hillbilly Redneck?
You seemed to have left some wiggle room or flexibility by stating that Salamander Mug, err..Mr. Carville, “may not” be what I said he is – kinda like a multiple choice question where the last option is all of the above.
And I thank you for you monetary support.
Ciao, Bro.
Go Canes!!
Beau,
I say “may”, since he may not even be of the same species as you and I. He may be some science experiment gone wrong. He and Oliver Willis are proof that some men just don’t look right bald. But I don’t think JC would look normal with hair… maybe he’s the alien hybrid Agen Mulder was looking for?
Just discovered your website, LaShawn. I love it! I find most of what Carville says to be ridiculous and humorous (unintentionally), like much of the anti-american liberalspeak by democrats fighting for Al Qaeda. I don’t think you can prove slander against poor James, since malicious intent cannot be held against the mentally incompetent. I don’t know WHAT Mary M was thinking.
Thanks, DaveK. Welcome to my blog! Stick around and join a conversation or two.
Mary Matalin and James Carville…Opposites attract???
James Carville is what happens when you eat too many red beans and rice. heh heh Just kidding
