Updates (9/11): Yikes! Mark Steyn issues a scathing rebuke against Dan Rather and implicates the Kerry campaign in the forged memo scandal.
Power Line explains the differences between Democrats’ and Republicans’ views of mainstream media.
Was there a typewriter capable of producing the memos in question? If you think answer is no, think again. Donald Sensing has the latest.
Did Karl Rove plant the memos? Nah…
Update II: I’d hate to be Dan Rather right about now. Check out Protein Wisdom’s “interview.”
**********************************************************
So says Patrick Caddell, Democratic pollster. Whatever. Don’t underestimate the power of the Bush-haters of America.
I’m going to do something I rarely do: link to a liberal blog. (Have I ever?) Power Line blogs about Daily Kos’s response to all of this mess. In the process, he calls the bloggers at Power Line “veiled” racists and the rest of us “wingnuts.” What a peculiar quirk white liberals have. They are so quick to shout “racist” when discussing this controversial stuff. As a black person, aren’t I more qualified to determine who racists are and are not?
(Update: I need to qualify the previous sentence. Kos is implying that white conservatives are racists because they oppose race preferences, for example. Check out Power Line’s sidebar and you’ll understand. I am someone for whom race preferences are designed, and I view them as blatantly racist. But I didn’t mean to imply that only blacks can recognize racism or that non-blacks can’t. I don’t want the sentence to be misunderstood. Does that make sense? )
Allahpundit has the latest Rather-biased comments.
That always confused me.

I am going to go over there and check em out
…I suppose I will have about the same experience over there as here…I will report…
No need for a report, HiRez. Just go.
This is downright comical:-) I really don’t care if the docs aare real or not because we all have the facts in front of us. 30 years ago John Kerry went to Vietnam. He won some medals and was honorably discharged. He said some pretty treachorous things about his fellow military members when he got back (making sure he covered his rear in the process). For for the past 20 plus years he has sucked oxygen at tax payers expense (missing more days of work than an alcoholic). We don’t know of anything great or non-great that he has done. He is just “there” (for lack of a better term), taking up space. We don’t know what he stands for (well, we do if read the paper and see which “labeled” group is making the most noise that day).
30 years ago, President Bush was in the National Guard. He was honorably discharged. We have his record and deeds from the years since in our face. We know the businesses he owned, where he worked, what he did and didn’t do (the good, the bad, the ugly). We know where he stands (for the most part).
those are pretty much the documented facts (even Kerry’s poor attendance for work record is documented fact).
I am not sure that this gaff will cost Kerry the election, but just as the Swift Boat fellows knocked him off message for a month or more, this will likely do the same. Reporters will ask about it. Someone will ask whether he will “disavow” the memos much as Kerry and Edwards demanded that Bush disavow the Swift Boat ads. Of course they won’t. It will come up somehow in the debates. It will further highlight that Kerry is unfocused and waivers on just about anything. It is sad that the political debate in this country gets down to military service thirty years ago.

Before I make those kind of pronouncements, I’m going to wait and see how it spins, as in will the media propose that it came from the DNC or Rove? Because frankly, the veracity of these docs went in the tank when CNN, ABC, and NBC started reporting that they might be false….
I updated my investigation into this tonight. I cannot believe the arrogance of the media (especially CBS) on this issue. They are totally acting as though these documents might be real. Heck, the DNC is sending out mail alerts to its supporters and creating strategy based on these forged doucuments.
Check out my analysis:

I am surprised more people aren’t creating their own forgeries of the forgery to help prove the facts.
Well said, Renee.
Interesting that the blogs are having so much influence.
Yes! And I’m so glad to be a part of this “movement.”
Last comment on this (for real

Since all this is based on military experience and being CINC (commander-in-chief), let’s look at some other persons from history:
Abe Lincoln – never faught in war however commanded
FDR – never faught in war however commanded
Timothy McVeigh – Gulf I Vet and Terrorist (left Army with Honorable Discharge and was a model Infantry Soldier, shocked most former military commanders and wo-workers who had not seen him since he left the Army with the terrorist act he committed)
The point is, what someone did years ago may have absolutely nothing to do with who they are today and then again maybe it will.
I know I am preaching to the choir:-) however everytime I hear the liberals say Kerry’s combat service qualifies him to be CINC, I say yeah… qualifies him just as much as it did Tim McVeigh using that lame analogy.
In case you haven’t gone, little green footballs’ weblog has produced an exact replica of the ‘original’ document on their microsoft word program. Dan Rather should have retired a long time ago.
Speaking of white liberals…Jay Thomas (actor, liberal, whitey) was on the panel on the Dennis Miller show on Wednesday night. Also on the panel was Jospeh Phillips (chmn of Afr.-Amer. for Bush and actor from the Cosby Show).
Aside from the disbelieving stares Thomas and the other panelist (white, liberal, female) gave Phillips, the debate was kinda normal.
Then the topic turned to Aff. Action. Phillips was against it, and Thomas, I sh!t you not, turned to Phillips and said (paraphrased somewhat, can’t find a transcript):
“Now, I’m from the South, and maybe YOU DON’T KNOW, but racism was a problem down there for quite some time.”
here’s a picture of Thomas
Even Miller was stunned and at the end of the segment said to the effect of: “You can really see the extent of white liberalism when they are trying to explains racism TO A BLACK MAN!!!”
It was awesome.
It is pretty much the left’s favorite club to call someone a racist. Unless you’re black, in which case you’re an Aunt Jemimah or an Uncle Tom. When people like Daily Kos and Oliver Willis start doing it, you know you’ve struck a nerve and that they are lashing out with the only weapon they have left: to accuse you of that.
This is why, while I am still a liberal, I can no longer consider myself a man of the left. (Although conservatives seem constantly disappointed that I won’t walk over and join their side–sorry guys, we just disagree on too many things).
That anyone would still be trying to defend these almost certainly forged memos is ridiculous. It is a sign of huge desperation on the left’s part that they feel the need to defend this, that they’re so desperate and so short on issues that they feel they have to have this National Guard business to have a chance to win. That’s really what they think, it was their desperation ploy, their “revenge for the Swift Boat Vets” response and, while it was always a long shot (very few people care about Bush’s National Guard service), it’s now blown up in their faces. Of course they’re desperate, and of course they’ll lash out.
It won’t occur to them that their real problem is that they have no coherent or resonant message for most voters, and that this gets clearer every day. Until they admit this, recognize it, and correct it, they’ll constantly be thrashing about and lashing out.
Will this Dan Rather business cost Kerry the election? Probably not. If Kerry loses, it’s because Kerry’s a lousy candidate with no clear message or principles besides “Bush sucks.”
As for the Dan Rather business: I do wonder if the issue won’t wind up being forgotten in the wake of the 9/11 anniversary and the new Florida hurricane. But I kind of doubt it will be.
Joseph C Phillips! Hubba hubba!

BTW, he has a place to talk politics, it would seem.
Oh, yeah. I found his site about 2 years ago. I list him in my “Favorite Writers” section.
If Kos is tossing in the race card when the issue at hand has nothing to do with race [well, I guess the paper the forged memos were printed on are white
] the Left must be desparate.
Sanity Defense has an ad for the used typewriter that Rather must be looking for. Good luck!!
Thanks for the link, but somehow the entry got corrupted. The new link for the protein wisdom Dan Rather interview is

Can you please make that correction? Thanks!

“Dan Rather May Have Cost Kerry the Election”
If there is a God, he will make this come to pass.
Of course, one could argue Kerry may have already cost Kerry the election, so it is going to be hard to know who to give the credit to.
