Snob Journalism

in Media Bias, Rathergate

Did you think I was done with the forged memos scandal? I have posts and columns and articles in the works as we speak. I’m going to trumpet the power of the blogosphere for years to come!

In the meantime, see Michelle Malkin’s latest column.

Dan Rather, Professional Journalist, and CBS News, Professional News Network, want us to keep believing that they are the ordained purveyors of truth. They are the mature and responsible mavens of media ethics. They are the information gatekeepers with unparalleled judgment, dedicated to the high principles of The Craft of Journalism, unwavering in their crusade for the public interest….

With a click of the mouse and easy-to-use Web log software, Internet-savvy citizens across America and around the world are relentlessly unmasking the frauds of snob journalism as never before. The wall between the self-anointed press protectorate and the unwashed masses has crumbled.

Rather and The Suits face crushing evidence that CBS relied on bogus military documents in a recent “60 Minutes II” hit piece challenging President Bush’s National Guard service. Questions about the documents’ authenticity were first raised last week on the indispensible conservative Internet forum, FreeRepublic.com, then amplified and supplemented by the intrepid independent bloggers of Powerline, Little Green Footballs, INDC Journal and Allahpundit.

Good stuff. I wished I’d played a bigger part, though.

(Hat tip: Power Line)

Also, Dean says CBS will offer a statement about the memos at noon today.

JustOneMinute has more on High Noon.

Update: Pressthink has a message for the legacy media.

Update II: Still waiting for CBS’s statement, which had been pushed back from noon to 3:30 p.m. EDT. Idler Yet makes a prediction.

What do you want to bet that they will continue to stonewall on this story? Either that or say that “OK the documents may have been fake, but we stand by the story and the statements of the Kerry campaign fundraiser we relied upon”.

You know I am suprised that Rather is such a Democrat partisan after the roughing up their security gave him at the ‘68 Democratic Convention :-)

hmmm, I wonder if the email I sent CBS had anything to do with it ;) Just kidding, I and who knows how many others sent letters of protest to scams@cbsnews.com.

All the same, it is indeed ironic as another commenter noted that Dan shot to national fame with Hurricane Carla that hit the Gulf States and falling from national disgrace with Hurricane Ivan.

Andy,
I sent them 3 over the course of the last three days! All were polite, and all made the point that I have always preferred to watch CBS Evening News (over NBC and ABC) primarily because I actually liked Dan Rather’s style better than Jennings or Brokaw. I also said that I would no longer because they had become openly partisan after the Republican Convention, and Rather had become blatently dishonest in his presentation of what was trying to be passed off as news.

I also gave them some suggestions on who they might consult to verify the memos, first off some legitimate document examiners and experts, and people like Killian’s wife and son, the former TexANG commander at the time, etc. Of course all the above have called the memos forgeries, but at least they are legitimate sources!

It is amazing that the people of CBS wouldnt figure out that people who have a good handle on the internet for finding out info…..would look it up to see if it was legitimate!! This isn’t Dan Rather’s news from the past anymore. I think WHEN these documents are found out to be false….that Dan Rather’s career will take a significant nose dive, if not ended.

Montie, since Sunday, once a day on each of my email accounts, I sent the “An Open Letter To The Mainstream Press” by regular poster Pukin Dog on Free Republic via Ramblings’ Journal and added a line saying I would not be satisfied until everyone involved in the deception at CBS were publicly outed and terminated. I also asked for the curtesy of a reply outlining their plan to ensure this would never happen again.

Naturally, my emails, which were addressed to evening@cbsnews.com, weren’t acknowledged. Then last night I sent the same thing to scams@cbsnews.com and facetiously added the following:
Will Dan will apologize for this egregious breach of public trust. If it’s fair to demand that Bush apologize for the torture of Iraqi prisoners by military flunkies, it is only fair to expect the same of Dan for the miserable failures of 60 minutes flunkies. Whether nepotism is involved or not is irrelevant.

You are here by ordered to present an answer NLT 1200 Wednesday, or this issue shall become the latest world-wide meme amongst the Pajama-set.

Andy

PS. …Mark my words, Nixon must be R6FUTGL (Rolling 6 Feet Under The Ground Laughing), not to mention the peculiar similarity at being caught at an elaborate but bungled deception.

I then forwarded those to each of the CBS advertisers at email addresses provided by Fraters Libertas, and informed them that I was personally boycotting Viacom until each and every head rolled and that I was extending my boycott to them (guilty by association) and also asked for a reply. So far, I recieved a Read Receipt from SBC and Deleted w/o Reading Receipts from Aventis & Sprint.

I missed the noon press conference, did anyone catch it? Even at this time (1:30pm), I can’t find any trace of it, even at CBS, however, they are promoting tonight’s 60 Miunutes “The general who’s been called a religious fanatic finally tells his story”. I guess CBS is determined to ride this hurricane out. Go figure.

Right now, CBS is DESTROYING records! They’ll do everything they can to destroy the chain of custody. And, make an investigation on this stuff difficult. Unlike, Nixon who had the brains NOT to burn the tapes; Rather and Company are destroying everything they can right now.

Hey Andy,

I got this off the ‘Kerry Spot’ on the National Review. Seem they arn’t ignoring everyonbe’s e-mails!

————
The Bush critics are e-mailing CBS, saying “good job, what courage” on this story. According to multiple postersat the liberal chat site DemocraticUnderground.com, the network’s response to the positive emails is:

Dear [e-mailer],
Thank you for taking the time to write. Your support is appreciated. As you can imagine, we’ve been inundated with negative emails. It’s refreshing to hear from a viewer such as yourself. We strive for the highest level of journalistic integrity and will continue to do so, no matter what the cost. A free society demands free, unmuzzled media expression.

I hate when this keyboard misinterprets what I type :-)

Andy 09.15.04 at 4:03 pm

That figures. I reckon when 60 Minutes is on tonite, thousands of pajama clad bloggers/readers will be poised over their keyboards ready to catch the first slipup.

Last week, it took a few minutes to raise the alarm after the show ended. This week, what are the odds that, somewhere, someone will zap ‘em in 60 seconds of saying it. Now that’s a new sport I can root for! 60 Seconds

“With a click of the mouse and easy-to-use Web log software, Internet-savvy citizens across America and around the world are relentlessly unmasking the frauds of snob journalism as never before”

Last time they were busted was when? 97? thats a pretty good record.

Andy 09.16.04 at 1:01 am

But this debacle is good, and a wakeup call for journalists, especially the J-school students watching their hero & legend slowly and painfully being fisked apart.

Sing with me;
(to the tune of Santa Claus inSanity Clause Is Coming To Town)

You better watch Out,
You better not try,
Better not doubt,
I’m telling you why:
P.J.-crowd is coming to town.
They’s making a list,
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out
What’s haughty and lies.
P.J.-crowd is coming to town.

They fisks you when you’re slacking.
They crows when you’re a fake.
They knows if you’ve been bad or good,
So be true for goodness sake!
Oh, You better watch Dan!
You better not try,
Better not BAMN, (By Any Means Necessary)
I’m telling you why:
P.J.-crowd done come into town.
P.J.-crowd done come into town.
