“This is Dan Rather for CBS news, now I understand how Custer felt at Little Big Horn,Courage”.
What’s interesting about the drop in Rather’s ratings is that the figures mentioned are from that liberal bastion, New York City. Imagine how precipitously they have dropped here in the conservative stronghold of Tulsa, OK. It’s to the point out here, that no one would notice if he DID retire, we’d have to read about it on a blog!
It’s sad in a way to watch an old water buffalo, who inadvertently stumbled into a stream full of bloggers, have the flesh gradually picked away, piranha style. Leaving nothing but an exposed skeleton of what he once was.
Still I can’t take my eyes away from the feeding frenzy. Call me voyeuristic? No, I didn’t like that buffalo either.
I’m seeing grumblings that Rather’s not out on his can yet. “Everything we’ve done has been for nothing.” It’s only been three weeks! And look at how much has happened already. 10 years ago, even 5 years ago, it might have taken weeks or months for things to get to this stage. I think somebody would have noticed they were fake eventually, but it might not have been until after the election. One of the drawbacks of total blog-immersion is that it really messes with your sense of time.
James Lileks has a must-read post today at his blog site, Lileks.Com, regarding a fellow columnist Nick Coleman’s article thrashing bloggers. You will see Coleman’s article creating a lot of noise in the blogosphere today
James is a columnist at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis and
posts a very entertaining and amusing daily column on his blog “The Bleat”. He is a semi-conservative family man and a very amusing and entertaining writer.
