AllawiTo watch the video of Iraqi Prime Minister Allawi’s speech before the United States Congress, click here. To read his remarks, click here. For the Rose Garden speech, see this. For John Kerry’s boneheaded remarks about Allawi’s speech, visit this link. To watch columnist Mark Steyn eviscerate Kerry, see here. To see Doug Giles do more of the same, visit this link.

Update: Sorry about that, folks. Kerry’s link is fixed. And check out this item from Matt Drudge. I didn’t know he had a sense of humor.

More on Allawi from JustOneMinute.

Where’s the link to colin powell disagreeing with allawi?

LB 09.28.04 at 9:51 am

I didn’t know he did so, but it doesn’t change a thing for me. Kerry’s boneheaded remarks are still boneheaded. Why don’t you do a similar post on your own blog and link to Powell’s remarks? Then we can all come over there and ask you questions.

actus 09.28.04 at 9:58 am

your link to kerry’s comments are broken, but I notice they do go to the white house. an interesting source for what kerry is thinking.

LB 09.28.04 at 10:13 am

The link is fixed now. Is your post up yet? Can’t wait to read it.

Andy 09.28.04 at 10:21 am

Actus: didn’t you know; the reason for the white house source is so they could do a michael moore edit on sKerry’s comments in order to get the rightist spin on his thoughts. [/sarcasm]

Or do you discount the possibilty that Queen La Shawn might want to avoid sending us to MSM links? Or that those who might want to reuse the contents could do so w/o worrying about copyright issues.

“Or do you discount the possibilty that Queen La Shawn might want to avoid sending us to MSM links? Or that those who might want to reuse the contents could do so w/o worrying about copyright issues. ”

Copyright is a red herring. And there are other sources out there.

as to powell, yahoo news has it, no need to be too overly repitivite, though I do admit there have been several different and at times contradictory positions on the situation in iraq coming out this week.

Copyright is a bit of a red herring, but yahoo news is available. In fact, in the interests of less repetition, here is yahoo on powell:

Though it has been necessary to expend a lot in order to portray the different and sometimes contradictory statements on iraq this week.

La Shawn,
Matt Drudge’s radio show Sunday at 10pm is pretty entertaining and he has a dry sense of humor. Wabc in NYC usually starts his broadcast at 9:30 pm till 1am.

Omar 09.28.04 at 1:38 pm

Sadly, Allawi is in total denial.

SCSIwuzzy 09.28.04 at 2:22 pm

Omar being our resident expert on denial, I’ll take that with a grain of salt.

Raymond C. Coleman 09.28.04 at 2:53 pm

How would you know Omar? Are YOU in Iraq? Are YOU an Iraqi citizen? Have YOU been targeted for asssasination by axe wielding Saddam thugs?

What is YOUR perspective or that of John Kerry that one should take your word over the CITIZEN Prime Minister of that nation?

What have YOU been through that was so terrible that you could see how what is going on in Iraq now is actually and improvment and very positive in light of the way it was?

Insteas of doubting Allawi, why don’t you behave as an American and offer him and his fellow countrymen your prayers, hope and support. It is easy and cowardly to do otherwise.

Help in the fight man! Lord knows we have enough naysayers, whiners and girliemen. STAND UP for freedom Omar. You can do it.

Peter 09.28.04 at 3:04 pm

I don’t understand U.S. conservatives’ fawning over Allawi. He’s unelected, a longtime CIA asset, and has about as much credibility among ordinary Iraqis as his old rival Ahmed Chalabi. Every Iraqi knows Allawi was hand-picked by the Interim Government, itself hand-picked by Paul Bremer. It silly to refer to him, solemnly, as does Mark Steyn, as “the first prime minister of post-Saddam Iraq,” as if that made him a legitimate national leader.

Can someone please explain?

Chris Roberts 09.28.04 at 3:37 pm

In denial of what?

He has every reason to be optimistic. His country has a great opportunity in front them. While they are having their struggles, to many over there, it is better than the alternative. It’s easy for us to sit here and rely on the words of “journalists”, yet discount the words of a man who is making a difference and leading Iraq.

That comment rings of arrogance. Much like John Kerry.

LB 09.28.04 at 3:44 pm

Peter – I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’m certainly not fawning. I put up the links to show the divisiveness of John Kerry’s ill-timed ranting. I’ll be honest with you: I wish Iraq well, but the sooner our troops are out of that desert, the better.

actus 09.28.04 at 3:45 pm

‘It’s easy for us to sit here and rely on the words of “journalists”, yet discount the words of a man who is making a difference and leading Iraq.’

Actually part of the criticism of him relies on not discounting his word and pointing to his inconsistencies.

Chris Roberts 09.28.04 at 4:00 pm

LB-
I want them home too, but let’s be real. Any get out of Iraq quick plan increases the likelihood that they will be there again. We have to get this right.

Omar 09.29.04 at 1:44 pm

‘How would you know Omar? Are YOU in Iraq? Are YOU an Iraqi citizen?’

This is a bit of a rhetorical question, as i could just say ‘Are YOU in Iraq?’ There are plenty of people that dispute Allawi’s ridiculous claims.

‘Have YOU been targeted for asssasination by axe wielding Saddam thugs?’

Typical that Saddam is bought up. I didnt make any reference to him or his regime. Allawi was a Ba’ath party member up to 1979. He later sought exile in London. He is America’s hand picked choice for Prime Minister.

‘What is YOUR perspective or that of John Kerry that one should take your word over the CITIZEN Prime Minister of that nation?’

As i said, the HANDPICKED Prime minister. Allawi is a total laughing stock, even when you ignore the fact he cant even speak the same language as his countrymen. You clearly know nothing about the man in question. He was an ex supporter of Saddam and came out with the ludacrous suggestion that Saddam could make WMD’s operational within 45 minutes. This claim appeared on the British intelligence dossier on Iraq. Now he makes the equally ludacrous suggestion that Iraq is becoming safer. I let the facts speak for themselves, im not in denial. If Allawi went infront of Congress and said Iraq was a cesspit of poverty, insurgency and resentment i dont think he’d have got a warm welcome, do you?

Recent polls reveal that Allawi has almost 5 percent supports, just below the president, with a 7
percent approval rating. Now of course, polls are never totally accurate – but even giving a big leway…..he doesnt have much support. I suppose we shall see if the true democratic elections ever happen.

actus 09.29.04 at 4:15 pm

“Typical that Saddam is bought up. I didnt make any reference to him or his regime. Allawi was a Ba’ath party member up to 1979. He later sought exile in London. He is America’s hand picked choice for Prime Minister.”

In fact I think it was Sy Hersh that reported he used to do dirty tricks for the Baath party in europe for a while.

SCSIwuzzy 09.29.04 at 4:35 pm

Let’s see… until the elections, who whould the American led coalition let do the picking…
The Baath party? No
Le French? Non
Der Deutsche? Nein
Ruski? Nyet

Of course the interim PM and other interim gov’t officials were picked by the coalition…
And if he talked about a cesspit of resentment and insurgency, congress would have assumed he was talking about Move-on dot org, or Hollywood, one of our nations leading wretched hives of scum and villany (with DC being the other in running for 1st place for WHSV)

actus 09.30.04 at 8:58 am

“Let’s see… until the elections, who whould the American led coalition let do the picking…”

We did hand it over to Lakhdar Brahimi, but then short-circuited his process.
