Pray for the people of Florida affected by the hurricanes. Many people have lost their lives and homes; the fortunate have lost only electricity. Despite the destructive forces of nature, God is still sovereign. Sometimes that reality is difficult to deal with when you’re going through trials, but I know it works for me. He is faithful. Christians know that even “bad” circumstances work out for good, somehow.
That’s where trust in the Lord comes in. Walking by faith is like making your way through the dark with a tiny candle illuminating only the next step. I intercede on behalf of those suffering from the destruction and hope the ones who are not followers of Christ are drawn to him through these circumstances.
I also pray for a different group of Floridians: the people Democrats will use to undermine the results of the November election. I’m developing a post or series of posts about the ridiculous voter disenfranchisement fraud perpetrated by Democrats, who apparently believe blacks in Florida are gullible, naive, ignorant, irresponsible, apathetic, or a combination thereof.
By the way, there are a few liberals out there who hate me. They can’t even conceal it (although they inexplicably read my blog, link to it and make vague references to me in their posts). Good grief. My Florida voter post(s) will not improve the situation, I’m afraid. Such is life!
Are there any readers from Florida or otherwise affected by the storms?
Update (9/30) : Blogbrother Michael King cites a story where someone says blacks are not “technologically savvy” enough to vote in Florida. Man, if Trent Lott were to say that…

I’m in Tampa and thankfully all of the storms left us with only minor damage. My son and Daughter-in-law live in Melbourne. Melbourne got hit pretty hard but they stayed with us and all are well. Their friends are not so lucky having their second apartment in two weeks badly damaged. My sister-in-law in Ohio lost her house due to rain and flooding from Francis so the hurting is not just in Florida. Just keep the people really hurting in your prayers and give to relief efforts if you can.
Fred
I am a new reader, a fellow sister in Christ, and a conservative Floridian. I am soo happy to have found your blog, and I enjoy reading it daily. Thank you for your prayers. I am one of the lucky ones, only minor damage. But in my county (near Daytona Beach) there is massive flooding and even today there was evacuations. This is the time for local churches and faith based groups to really step up. Even us lucky ones, are weary and feel like we are walking in a daze. But everying is in the Lord’s hands and he can work all things for good. Keep Haiti in your prayers also.
Keep up the good work.
Fred, Lori, you’re all in my prayers as well.
LB, isn’t Beau from Florida?
Thanks, Fred and Lori. I will remember the non-Floridians, too.
Lori, welcome to my blog. I hope you stick around. There are many Christian bloggers out here. I’m a member of and I link to the Blogdom of God. You’ll see the link on the blogroll. Plenty of great God bloggers who write about Christian topics more consistently and much better than I do.
I think you’re right, seal-lover. I’ll e-mail him.
La Shawn:
I’m glad you’ll be posting something on the Florida vote. I’m sure you’ve read Jimmy Carter’s op-ed piece in the Wash. Post, in which he accuses Florida Republicans of a conspiracy to disenfranchise black voters. Ugh.
I’m sorry that some liberals hate you. I suspect, though, that they’d hate anyone who was on the “wrong” side of the issues.
The occurrence of evil is mysterious, but it isn’t an argument against the existence of God. At most, it’s an argument that God’s ways are mysterious.
Fact is, if there were no Absolute Righteousness—no God—there’d be no standard against which to measure good and evil or to make the distinction between them.

OT,
I just wanted to say you look very purty in your picture.
Not as pretty as my Kenyan African Queen, but then I am biased.
But it is a very nice pic. (smile)
Several chatters from my AOL chatroom were affected. One lost everything. Do keep them in your prayers.
Hey La Shawn,
Thanks for the prayers. We Floridians need them. I’m so worn out from the storms. Damage here in the St. Pete area goes from nothing to major depending on where you live. For me and my family (including my Church family) the damage was minimal.
We had two downed trees on one of the church buildings (one we use to house tools and chairs and stuff). Thankfully there was no damage. There are about four other downed or semi-downed trees around the Church property that we are still dealing with.
A number of us, including the Church were without power and/or phones. Thankfully, I believe everyone has power and phones now.
We’ve been blessed. But so many other’s have suffered much worse. My heart breaks for those in Haiti too.
What really frustrates me are the silly people like the one from California who made the statement that this was God’s punishment for electing Bush in 2000. I just posted to my blog this guy’s letter to the Tampa Tribune and some of what another columnist said on the matter.
Florida voters? How would you like to be living in Texas where our Chief, ya know…Bush comes from?
Bush, now that just doesn’t fit does it? Texas…Big…bush!?!?
Well down here in Tejas, we wear ten gallon hats, they got’s to fit our BIG EGOS!
Freeways are HUGE, how else could we manage to allow our Buffalo To Roam, and the Deer and the Antelope to play!?!
Well seldom is heard a discouraging word! You know how many Christians WE HAVE!?!
And OUR SKYS ARE NOT CLOUDY ALL DAY!?!
Is it NO WONDER WHY UsS TEXANS are known for tellin’ tall tales!?!
Florida people are mighty fine people and they have a Bush there and that makes sense to me. But a BUSH in TEXAS!?!?
NAH….WE grow Mighty Big TREES… like ole’, “Jack and the Beanstalk that grow up into the sky!
Well, I will tell you this is for sure and it ain’t no foolin’. WE Christian Texans have you in Our Prayers and the Man Above does what He does Best…Those of us that follow him and those that have wandered from Him as well, care about you and sends in Heavenly Angels and Angels here on earth.
Blessings,
home sweet home florida.
It’s creepy how much Florida has been battered by hurricanes, but it still doesn’t give creedence (www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N15154338.htm) to the global warming argument. I’m sure you’d agree.
I just hope Floridians won’t have to experience this sort of event again. The state really needs to recover.
Thanks for the prayers, Lashawn!! I’m good……..this time around.
Thanks for posting this La Shawn. Boy do I need to vent….
It had gotten bad. We had to throw away all of our food in the fridge and freezer and the sewers in the neighborhood had begun to overflow into the streets because the power was out the lift and pumping stations. Forget the wind and water damage from a ‘cane. The real hassle from a hurricane is being without power.
The problem seems to be a lack of process, learning and communication between municipality leadership, the state leadership and environmentalist concerns. The mayor (Tampa), Pam Iorio says the city cuts down nuisance trees, but not around power lines, Tampa Electric Company (TECO) says they do but often don’t because resident threaten to and sue them for cutting down their precious trees. The governor is impotent due to his having to keep a state like Florida green which means the environmentalists will raise sand if you cut a tree.
MAJOR fines in Florida for unauthorized cutting of foliage.
We can put a man on the moon, create and artificial heart, transmit power under DADGUM OCEANS, but we can’t keep power from going down to 40MPH breezes with the OCCASIONAL higher gusts? Sorry, but I’m not buying it.
My sister-in-law and her husband live in Ft. Pierce, and they got hit dead-on twice. Fortunately, they are well, as is their daughter off at college in Orlando. Their house suffered roof damage the first time in Frances, and it leaked worse when Jeanne hit. Their church also only had minor damage (he’s minister at one of the Methodist churches in Ft.Pierce)- roof tiles blown off, water leaks, and a couple of windows blown out in the church office area.
They lucked out – the church got power back up within a couple of days, and they opened it up to folks, especially the elderly and children, who were suffering so badly from the heat. Water and sewage have been out for extended periods as well as most land-line phones. Thank God for cell phones and car rechargers that have let us keep in touch, even during the worst of the storms.
This is bad and I do feel so bad for you in Florida.
I could never imagine living through what you have gone through. I just had a terible flood once in Illinois that flooded the bottom part of our three level home destroying many personal belongings.
I do hope the swift hand of President Bush to help will come to your aid soon. I feel he is a man of great moral values and I am voting for him.
I do want you to know the prayers are coming from those of us in Texas.
I read your blog every day and can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone would hate you. Oops, sorry you said liberal. That explains it.
Nightdragon,
Just because some people in FL can’t figure out a ballot doesn’t mean they would swallow junk science.
From Steven Milloy’s Junkscience dot com:
The Miami Herald interviewed National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration meteorologist Stanley Goldenberg and reported on Sept. 8: “Research Goldenberg conducted with NOAA scientist Chris Landsea, private expert William Gray and others found distinct patterns of low-activity hurricane periods and high-activity periods, each of which endured for decades. These patterns, unrelated to the current concern over global warming, are caused by regular cycles of oceanic and atmospheric phenomena, such as unusually warm water in hurricane breeding grounds.”
The New York Times reported on Sept. 5: “Global warming is not a significant factor in this year’s storminess, experts said. While some climate models predict that warming might eventually mean somewhat stronger hurricanes, that effect is expected to be very small compared to the natural hurricane cycle.”
The Washington Post began a Sept. 3 article with, “Bad luck, not global warming, is the best explanation for the arrival of two severe hurricanes on the Florida peninsula in three weeks, several experts said yesterday.”
Some air-heads at NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC are now blathering this global warming nonsense but spreading junk science is nothing new for NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC since they have been spreading the other junk science called evolution and i have this feeling that the enviromenatlist wackos will blame this on global warming more over its just a weird weather event or its a warning to florarda not to repete november 2000 and that were the mickey mouse elections
