dinosaurI’m sure this is old news by now, but some idiot working for the dinosaur-like NAACP gave a man crack cocaine to fill out 100 voter registration forms in Ohio.

While the dinosaurs are trying to scare people with moronic tales of the return of Jim Crow at the voting booths, they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel for John Kerry voters, real or imagined. Real classy.

According to the Toledo Blade (anything like the Washington Blade?):

Chad Staton, 22, of Stratton Ave., faces a fifth-degree felony charge of false registration after sheriff’s deputies said he filled out the registration forms by himself — using either fictitious names or addresses — and gave them to Georgianne Pitts, 41.

Toledo police searched Ms. Pitts’ home and discovered drug paraphernalia along with more voter registration forms. Police said that Ms. Pitts admitted to paying Mr. Staton in crack cocaine, in lieu of cash.

Ms. Pitts, working on behalf of the NAACP National Voter Fund, submitted the forms to the voter fund, which in turn submitted them to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections….

Ms. Pitts told police she had been recruited to obtain voter registration forms by Thaddeus J. Jackson II, of Cleveland, who is coordinating the Toledo area’s voter registration drive for the NAACP voter drive.

When contacted by The Blade this afternoon, Mr. Jackson said that Ms. Pitts was a “volunteer,” but said he had no knowledge of any fraudulent voter registration forms. He declined to comment further.

I also heard about the 1960s-style fireman-hosing-a-black-man flyer put out by the liberals, but I tried to ignore it. Michelle Malkin posted something on it. By the way, did you know it was DEMOCRATS who turned the hoses and dogs on blacks? I wonder if that information is on the flyer. The Democrats and their whole legion are imbeciles.

Links: I thought my “Crack the Vote” title was clever, but everybody’s using it. Blogs for Bush and Generation Why? are two. Backcountry Conservative and Captain’s Quarters comment of the cocaine caper. Speaking of crack, it seems I’m not the only one in this town embarrassed by the return of Marion Barry (Michael King).

Update: Rightwingsparkle has done the kind of “voter disenfranchisement” analysis that I planned to do but couldn’t find the time. Now I don’t have to write one! Check it out.

Update II: I am so paranoid about typos. Someone thought this was a typo (thanks for calling it out): “Blogs for Bush and Generation Why? are two.” Two is not misspelled. They are two (2) of the bloggers using the crack post title.

  1. I must be getting cynical… this didn’t even surprise me in the least. Well, no surprise except that no one mentioned exactly how this is the Republicans’ fault.

    “fireman-housing-a-black-man”

    You mean hosing, right?

  2. La Shawn,

The thing that really drives me crazy about all this, particularly with regard to the “fireman hosing a black man” flyer you referenced, is that is was the DEMOCRATS who were the ones perpetrating those types of outrages in the ’60’s, not the Republicans!

The Democrats have always been the party most blatant in the use of illegal or questionable election tactics. You can usually be sure that the more they try to imply that the Republicans are doing things that are illegal or unethical, that it is just a smokescreen (crack smoke?) to cover their own illegal activities.

You can bet that if Black Americans were more likely to vote Republican as they were years ago, that the Democrats would still be doing everything in their power to prevent as many as possible from voting.

Of course I don’t know why we would be suprised at the use of crack by Democrats to entice voter registration. Marion Berry has already shown us that it is the Democrats “drug of choice”, and it certainly has done nothing to hurt his political career!

Everyone go early vote and don’t be apart of the shenigans on Nov 2nd. Voter fraud delays voters count will be the headlines, prints NY Times and Washington Post, as well as CNN, and MSNBC.

  5. I guess we can take a democrat out of the extreme but you can’t take the extreme out of the democrats.

At least I can take heart in the outlook that regardless of the presidential outcome, the house and senate looks set to gain more republican seats providing a check on a sKerry admin, especially on judicial nominations.

The silver lining in a sKerry win would mean that cHillary’s ambitions for higher office will be extinguished. Wonder if the clintonistas have an October surprise up their sleeve to derail sKerry.

  6. Well, of course the Dems aren’t going to point out the fact that it was their party who did the fire hose beating of blacks in the Sixties. That would be like trying to be objective.

I had a title you could use LaShawn, crack is known as “rocks” on the street; so why not go with “Rock the Votes”? I’m sure P Diddy would like that parody.

  7. You may be embarrassed by the return of Marion Berry, La Shawn, but I’m embarrassed to live in Ohio at the moment. In additon to the above gem and the recent ruling that Ohioans can vote in any polling place in their county, not necessarily their assigned one, leaving people wondering how voter fraud can be controlled, now there is the scandal with Capri Cafaro (D) and Steve LaTourette (R). Seems someone in the Cafaro campaign slipped the news a video of LaTourette coming and going from his shack-up lobbyist girlfriend’s house in D.C. However, the news promptly went after the Cafaro campaign instead. Cafaro, of course, denies any knowledge.

If you are my age (over sixty) and listened to those people who were in their forties and fifties back then, you know the George Wallace (more on him later), Bull Connor, Ross Barnett, Orval Faubus, etc. were all Democrats. It was Midwest and other Republicans such as Robert Dole and Ev Dirksen who pushed with LBJ the various bills for civil rights in the Sixties. Robert Byrd of W-Va voted against these bills.
Off topic is the phoney draft issue which is talk by Democrats. Is support for bill only from Charles Rangel (D-NY) and Fritz Hollings (D-SC)? Are not these lame ducks, meaning for running for reelection.

  11. What irritates me about the ‘fireman-hosing-a-black-man’ flyer is that it reflects a certain stereotype that the DEMs have about Black-Americans. 17. Hi La Shawn,
We all realize that you are extremely well-read and would have no concern about the upcoming elections if 60% of voters had our idea of history. The college versus town in the case of Prairie View A & M was that an isolated town could be taken over by college. I have traveled between Houston and Austin via FM 290 many times. Fast forward to today, a college is trying to raise taxes on motel rates and food places to support bigger football stadium. By food places I mean expensive down to McDonald’s. It is not race because a restraining order was brought black verus black indirectly on this issue. LB, SC is your home state, is Fritz Hollings the one who claimed GWB started war in Iraq because of Israel?
Two weeks before the election, and claims by Dems are flying that have no logical basis including draft baiting,
    race baiting, etc.

I am simply appalled by the tactics both parties use to stay in power. This is just another example. I recently read an article about re-districting practices of both parties that result in districts that look like Rorschach tests. They are simply put into place to guarantee re-election of the incumbent.

  24. The crack situation has nothing to do with voter fraud. Most of the Dem voter fraud stories are the same story–person registering voters for a dollar a name cheats and makes up names to get paid more. See the D.C. Mayoral Election two years ago. The Democrats get hurt becasue they end up paying to register “Mickey Mouse” and “Richard Hurtz.” The voters have no real address and the voter registration cards come back “no such address.”

But the Republicans are really committing fraud. Their voter registration effort in Nevada, led by Mr. Sproul, was apparently tearing up legitimate registrations made by Democrats who will learn on Nov. 2 that they are not registered.

And why would the Republicans attempt to disenfranchise voters? Because when turnout is high, they lose. Its a statistical fact that cannot be ignored.

You demostrate a hostility that really is unnecessary. Contrary to what you may believe, THSI country is not hard wired to keep women down.

Rules in standards that were put in place back in the stone age were not put there to exclude wittle ole Bijan but put there because they were necessary to insure a quality “product” or “service.”

You can’t go on living as if one day women will be “equal” to men. Without artificial intervention, this is never going to happen. God made women with “split tails” for a reason. A GLORIOUS reason and you ought to resepct Him for that in that His wisdom ininitely surpasses your own. Quit trying to be what you aren’t and cherish who you are. Make who you are better and quit trying to tear down men so that you can compete with them. You don’t have to compete with us anymore than we have to compete with you.

  28. Cassandra,

I’ve looked over your post and looked at the menu. Contrary to what Drudge and a lot of right-wing bloggers (and the Rocky Mountain News) are saying it doesn’t say to “accuse” the local Republican party. Instead, according to the article the manual says they should have the press “reviewing Republican tactics used in your area or state.” That would be tactics that have actually been used in the past. According to the article the manual suggests that local leaders should “quote “party/minority/civil rights leadership as denouncing tactics that discourage people from voting.” I’m certain you would also denounce any tactics which discourage people from voting.

There’s simply nothing there except a Drudge mischaracterization of the memo. Investigation into the actual text of the memo demonstrates that Democrats merely want to keep the media aware of past attempts to intimidate voters. Not a single word suggests accusing Republicans of doing anything they haven’t done. Not a single word.

You are being silly. You are trying to split hairs in a way that would make John Kerry proud. Republicans never intimidated voters before and we are not doing it now.

How would you like it if I distributed literature specifically naming you and your business and asked for an investigation into actions that would result in children being kidnapped? This type of advertising, if done by a business, would result in fines by the FTC and other regulators. If the Republicans had distributed this kind of literature asking for investigations into DNC actions that would lead to the purchase of fake registrations with crack, the DNC would probably . . . . Oh wait, that actually happened.

When you and the rest of the DNC apologize for the spate of shootings, break-ins, assaults etc. at local Republican offices, then I will listen to you talk about “intimidation.”

  35. Ok, without links allowed it is hard but let’s try: (1) Toldeo (OH) Blade reports on Oct 12 that Lucas co. Democratic Headquarters had all their computers stolen, including their main system. Campaign strategy was on the hard drives. (2) Associated Press reports on Oct. 13 that Oregon state officials were opening an investigation into Sproul & Associates, a group that was (a) pressuring voters into registering as Republicans, (b)implied that those who registered as Democrats would have their registrations destroyed and (c) a canvasser for the same firm reported on KGW TV that he was told only to accept Republican registrations and that Democratic registrants “might” have their registrations destroyed. (3) An employee of the same firm in Nevada told several reporters that a supervisor had shredded hundreds and maybe thousands of voter registration forms from Democrats only. (4)Librarian in Oregon reported that a group claiming to be part of America Votes, were actually Sproul & Associates (5) In Eugene, OR, canvassers told students they must register as Republicans in order to have their registrations count and that by registering as Republicans they would be helping people fight child molesters. (5)Who is Nathan Sproul? The former head of the Republican party in AZ. Who pays him? The Republican National Committee. All in the AP story. (6) Nashua Telegraph reported Oct 18 that Bush Cheney New England Regional Chairman Jim Tobin resigned under pressure because of allegations he was named in a sealed indictment alleging that he was involved in a phone jamming operation using auto dialers to jam the Democratic get out the vote operation in all of N.H. in 2002. (7) AP reported Oct 17 that Jeb Bush attempted to use a flawed felon purge list made up of almost all African Americans and no Hispanics (who vote Rep. in FLA). Despite advice from experts to use the list, he sent it out. FLA officials claim now that the list will not be used. (8)Democratic organization fraud in CO: Oct 19 Colorado Springs Gazette reports CO Attorney general reports that the fake names signed up by some Democratic canvassers were not the result of attempts to corrupt the process. Instead, he asserted “we are not seeing some scam where people are trying to corrupt the process,” Ritter said. “It’s people who are involved in the registration process, who are getting paid for it and are doing things to feather their nest.” Total number of registrations involved appear to be 108 in two cases, only one of which involved charges. (9) Crack incident: Toledo OH Blade reported on Oct 19 that instead of paying a canvasser money for each registration, a woman paid crack. Apparently NAACP didn’t screen the woman paying crack. Total number of falsified registrations? 122. (10) AP reported on Oct 14 that Nader was thrown off the PA ballot because of false names. How did they know? The names were Mickey Mouse and Fred Flinstone.

Those are my facts people. Let’s see what you got.

  37. From the Richmond VA Times Dispacth, Oct 20. The memo stated: “If no signs of intimidation techniques have emerged yet, launch a ‘pre-emptive strike’ (particularly well-suited to states in which these techniques have been tried in the past),” the manual says.

As examples of a pre-emptive strike, the memo suggests proposing news stories expressing concern about the threat of intimidation tactics and preparing for possible legal action on Election Day. What exactly is wrong with preparing for the worst.

And why might the Democrats be scared? Salon reported on October 1 about the long history of Republican voter intimidation efforts:

NY Times reported on August 16 that Fla state police had been showing up at the homes of elderly black registered voters asking about their voting behavior. In July John Pappageorge, a Republican state representative in Troy, Mich, stated to a Republican strategy meeting indicated that “If we do not suppress the Detroit vote, we’re going to have a tough time in this election.” He admitted the comments and apologized.

1981 NJ Governor’s election. RNC hired police officers to patrol black neighborhoods and put up signs designating themselves the “Ballot Security Task Force.” After a civil suit, the RNC signed a consent decree in court to never use these tactics again. yet they did.

1986, Republicans challenge 31,000 black voters in Louisiana as part of another “ballot security initative.” Discovery in the following lawsuit revealed Republican strategy documents stating that: could keep the African-American vote down considerably.” The result: Another consent decree, this one requiring Republicans to clear all “ballot security ” efforts with the Federal courts. Did it end there? No.

1990, Jesse Helms N.C. state Republican Party mailed out “voter registration bulletins” to 150,000 homes in minority precincts, warning that voters would need to bring a raft of personal information to the polls on Election Day, and adding, falsely, that a voter “must have lived in [a] precinct for at least the previous 30 days.” The Justice Department sued and the Republicans were forced to sign yet another consent decree.

1988, Hidalgo TX, Republicans ran ads falsely warning Latino voters that non-citizens who went to the polls would get prison sentences.

2002, South Dakota state attorney general devised an anti fraud voting plan which did one thing only–sent law enforcement officials to question 2000 newly registered Native American voters. Were any other groups investigated. Of course not.

1998, Dillon Co. S.C., a Son Kinon, a Republican state official mailed out 3000 brochures to blacks stating: “You have always been my friend, so don’t chance GOING TO JAIL on Election Day! … SLED [South Carolina Law Enforcement Division] agents, FBI agents, people from the Justice Department and undercover agents will be in Dillon County working this election. People who you think are your friends, and even your neighbors, could be the very ones that turn you in. THIS ELECTION IS NOT WORTH GOING TO JAIL!!!!!!”

2000 Florida. Police used road blocks to intimidate black voters. Media widely reported it. When the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights investigated it, the corroborated many of the stories.

Another common canard: Some minority areas have more people registered in the area than are living there. True. But, so do the ENTIRE STATES of Alaska and Montana. Are these hotbeds of minority based Democratic voter fraud? You tell me.

People, I have the facts on my side. Check out the Salon article and all of the articles I have cited in my comments. Sorry if I went long, but LaShawn said no linking allowed. I like to follow the rules. Too bad the Republican party does not. If you are a patriot, you should look deeper into these problems and strike at them hard. Our political process depends on it.

However, she believes it was just straight theft. Others in the office are not so sure. People are breaking windows and shooting them out in local Republican headquarters. This cannot be denied. But is it calculated voter intimidation? Probably not. I expect they are just some revved up kids who don’t like Bush. I think that most Democrats know that you Republicans are not going to be intimidated by punks like that. The Democrats know it does no good and merely enrages the local Republicans, causing them to come out and vote.

But the Republicans do it for real and they play for keeps. No small potatoes here: They are skilled and organized and must be stopped from voter intimidation. And we will stop them. We have an army of lawyers making sure we can vote. No more 2000. See you Nov. 2.

You refer to the theft of the Toledo Dems’ computer. You mean the same Toledo Dems that paid crack for phony registrations? Those Dems?

America Votes is not a Republican organization, but a left wing organization with ties to Nancy Pelosi, Naral, Ann Richards, etc.

The Civil Rights commission found no evidence of actual “roadblocks.” They found no actual person who could not vote. Name the voters who were prevented from voting. Well? . . .

BTW, it is a crime to try to vote where or when you are not eligible. Election fraud is a crime and it is perfectly proper to threaten criminal prosecution in response.

Also, felons are not allowed to vote. It is not only OK, but mandatory, to keep them off the rolls. Most of the felons who were taken off the voter rolls in Florida were white.

I still haven’t seen any examples of actual bullet holes in Democrat headquarters. We have seen plenty of such examples in Republican headquarters. We have photos of Dem/union thugs invading and terrorizing Republican headquarters across the country.

    Keep trying

  46. Milo,

    (1) Please read carefully. The Spruol people were posing as America Votes. America Votes was not involved.

    (2) The crack situation did not directly involve the Democratic Party. Regardless, the computers were stolen. Please explain how the illegal actions of one person justify the illegal actions of another. You cannot of course.

    (3) As to attacks, See the Oct 7 North Carolina Mountain Times article, where two cinderblocks were thrown through the window of the local Democratic headquarters. September 17, Lafeyette La. Advertiser reports vandals attacked the local Democratic headquarters for the second time. Pittsburgh, PA, Oct 7 Post-Gazette reports a man runs out of the Republican offices and assaults demonstrators accross the street. October 4, Lawence KS World reports vandalism at Democratic HQ. Sept 9. Galveston (TX) Daily news reports windows smashed with a tire iron and Bush stickers left at the local Democratic HQ.

    (4) Furthermore, I listed 7 serious and systematic incidents of voter intimidation used by Republicans. You responded to one only, yet tell me “keep trying.” You have yet to respond to any of the other situations.

I must concede that although the Commission, the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Attorney General found improper roadblocks and violation of Fla. law, there was no direct evidence of voters not going to the polls. However, I can name names as to disenfranchised African Americans in Florida in the Report: Cathy Jackson, Donnise DeSouza, Angenora Ramsey, amongst many others named.

    (5) Systematic Voter Fraud: I named 12 serious incidents. You responded to none. Significantly, you did not respond to the direct allegations of fraud following the Sproul outfit.

    (6) There have been incidents where some Democrats have gone too far with their protests. Anyone caught doing anything as described should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But ignoring the systematic nature of the allegations of Republican fraud is unpatriotic. Indeed, I think this spate of stories is designed to do one thing–hide the efforts of Sproul and his ilk from the public.

Deny all you want. I’ve done my homework and you have been unable to counter the facts I present. Milo, I’m sure you can agree that all Americans should be concerned with this issue on both sides of the ball. Acting as if one side has done worse when it has not is bad.

  47. Milo:

Good points, but this is pointless. Their entire strategy is to fill the air with so many lies that no one will be able to tell the difference. It is interesting how they have to invoke false claims from 20 or 40 years ago in order to justify false claims today.

I suppose Rob also believes that Bush will impose the draft and take away social security.

The DNC strategy has come down to spamming La Shawn’s blog in order prevent meaningful discussion by those who want to educate themselves.

  49. Salt. None of these are false claims. All come from reputable newspapers or wire services. I have seen no evidence from your side to prove a single one of the claims wrong. Furthermore, I have been honest about Democratic errors.

I hope I am not spamming anything. I have made coherent arguments and cited to my information. This is classic argumentation. I haven’t made conclusory statements. But, like the great Stan Mikita, I play to win. So I back up what I say.

I do think Lashawn does do a good job of soliciting opinions from all sides. (See her questions about whether she thought it was justified for the soldiers to refuse a mission.) Part of the problem with the U.S. right now is no one is listening to one another and focusing on the facts. I aim to change that.

    Comment by Rob W — 10.20.04 @ 12:04 pm

  50. Carmen: These claims are recent. Although the intimidation efforts span 20 years of systematic effort, the Sproul outfit is operating in the here and now in multiple states. And he’s not a loose cannon: The RNC pays him directly.

As to the protests at the Republican offices last week, they have no place in civilized society and as I said before, those involved should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But the facts cannot be ignored. Republican Fraud is going on right now and it is more systematic and dangerous. Stop playing the victim and do something about it. Tell you what–why don’t we each agree to write the persons responsible (you the RNC, me the labor unions who organized the protests) and we tell them they are wrong.

  51. RobW

Milo answered mostor all of your complaints. He pointed out that it is not illegal to enforce the law. It IS ILLEGAL for unregistered persons or noncitizens to try to vote. Those people should be prosecuted. When Republicans used to point this out 20 years ago, it was called “intimidation.” Now Democrats think they can flood the rolls with Mary Poppins, dead people and illegal aliens.

  52. Rob

THREE NAMES??? Twenty years of Republican “systematic” intimdation and the best you could do was come up with THREE NAMES of people who were supposedly denied the right to vote? I never heard of those names before, but I would bet that they were either unregistered, felons or they actually voted. They may have voted for Buchanon, but that’s not my problem.

At least you admitted that the alleged roadblocks did not stop people from voting. [Even though you are still trying to use that claim to incite and enrage your DNC base]

    Milo

    P.S. Three names?? Really??

  53. ROB:

Somewhere in this country, there are “people” lurking who have recently fired gunshots into Republican headquarters at elderly Republican volunteers. There are others who stormed those headquarters in an effort to scare those volunteers. They remain unprosecuted. They are going to vote on November 2nd (probably 2 or 3 times each under various names).

So keep talking about your Florida roadblocks and your “systematic” violations and how outraged you pretend to be. Remember, the only reason that goons can get away with it is that they are protected by those who would cloud the issue with lies about Republicans. Blame the victim.

    2) Do you believe Bush will cut social security benefits in a second term?

I dare you to answer anything other than “NO”. C’mon. Show your true colors.

  55. There were a lot more than 3 names but I figured that I’d better stop becasue my comments were getting big. Check the report out yourself. Google U.S. Civil Rights Commission Florida 2000. You’ll see a lot more than three names. You’ll see poll workers reporting the irregularities themselves.

If the voter intimidation was correct, then why did courts requrie the Republicans to stop and sign consent forms saying they would never do it again? Why did the Bush I Justice Department get involved and force them to stop? These things were wrong. You cannot argue it is right to try and get people to stay away from the polls. That’s UnAmerican.

I see no responses (not a single one) to anything involving Sproul & Associates. Update: Pittsburgh Post Gazette now reports that Sproul is at center of new allegations in PA. Reporters have now read the script involved:

Twilla provided the Post-Gazette with a copy of the script he said he had been given.

It instructs the canvassers to hand unregistered Bush supporters a clipboard with a registration form, and to advise them the canvassers will personally deliver the forms to the local courthouse.

A lower portion of the form also advises the canvassers to ask undecided voters two questions: “Do you consider yourself pro-choice or pro life?” and “Are you worried about the Democrats raising taxes?” If voters say they are pro-life, the form says, “Ask if they are registered to vote. If they are pro-choice, say thank you and walk away.”

The form also tells canvassers, “If anyone asks who you are working for, it’s ‘Project America Vote.’ ” Plus they ripped off their own canvassers, much like Nader. Deny all you want, but these are indisputable facts. I’ve seen nothing on your side at all. Answer the allegations.

    Comment by Rob W — 10.20.04 @ 12:51 pm

  56. Milo: Why don’t you stay on topic and answer my questions? Nonetheless,
    (1) Do I think Bush will impose a draft second term? There’s a draft on right now. Its called the backdoor draft. People are being kept in the service past their muster out dates.
As to a full draft, tough question. I do know that it was widely reported yesterday that the Selective Service hired a contractor to examine plans to draft medical personnel. See NY Times Oct. 18. I think its about 45% likely, because our Army is strained to its breaking point. You may be surprised to know, I support it if necessary. But while we’re at it, if you think Kerry is using scare tactics, what about Cheney telling the people that Kerry will not be able to retaliate if terrorists detonate a nuclear weapon in a U.S. city?!!!!! Your boy has been pulling this type of garbage since the beginning of the campaign, Cheney says al Qaeda will attack if Kerry’s elected etc. Don’t deny it, you can’t.
    (2) Cut S.S. benefits? 100% yes Bush will try. He has to. The privitization plan represents just that. But he won’t get it to pass. He’s ran the deficit up. He’s spending the Social Security Surplus right now.
    (3) As long as we are on the subject of complaints, how about trying to mischaracterize Kerry’s record based on stuff he said in 1972 when he ran for Congress at 26? Please. And what about the Swift Boat Liars? Total lies and distortions. The only guy on Kerry’s boat who says he wasn’t under fire also got a medal that day for being under fire. The rest of the people distorted their association with the unit, saying “they served with Kerry” when they mean they were in country at the same time. Oh and Cambodia? O’Neill said he never went to Cambodia. But then it was revealed that he told President Nixon on tape that he had been there. You guys are not telling the truth. Not one bit. Iraq is OK? Come on. We are adults here. Bush claims nothing is wrong never made an error. Nobody believes that but him. The White House admits that Bremer asked for more troops. He never got them and look where we are now. Bush is a nice guy, but not a competent leader. Turned a surplus into a deficit, No WMD, quagmire in Iraq, no bin Laden, etc. Call these talking points all you want. They are true. There is a huge deficit and it was a surplus before. Can’t blame it on the recession in one breath and then claim you wiped out the recession with a tax cut in the next.

    Comment by Rob W — 10.20.04 @ 1:12 pm

  57. I think the group you are talking about is a leftwing organization with ties to the unions. They engaged in fraud in Nevada and the CBS affiliate promptly blamed the Republicans. It is kind of like the myth of Florida roadblocks. If the lefties repeat it often enough, it becomes accepted.

There is nothing wrong with refusing to register someone who is of a different party. You are not required to fill out a registration card for someone you disagree with. That is perfectly legal. As long as the person in question doesn’t accept a registration application and fail to deliver it. That would be fraud against the potential voter. It is OK to listen for the party affiliation or orientation and then move on.

Only a DNC talking point repeater would equate failing to register a Democrat with “intimidation” or shooting a gun at innocent volunteers.

It seems as if you guys lost your audience once Rob admitted that he believes in all of the current moonbat positions.

I thought Bush was going to cut SS benefits 4 years ago. I thought Reagan was going to cut SS in the 1980’s. Maybe, just maybe, this is a democrat lie trotted out every 4 years to scare seniors.

    Comment by Peter — 10.20.04 @ 4:04 pm

  58. Rob, regarding your two answers
    1) Backdoor Draft — no such thing. Otherwise, why would they double or triple re-enlistment bonuses? In GulfStorm, I could have been “backdoor drafted” since I was still on Inactive Reserve for 4 years beyond my muster out date. I told them I’d go for the duration only, they said no dice, they wanted re-enlistments only. So the war went on w/o me. Yet those of my units that were due to muster out during the conflict were “backdoor drafted”. No need to incent the troops if we can “draft them beyond their muster out date. Look it up. Siffcie to say, if I have to explain it, you probably wouldn’t understand it.

    2) You’ve been soused on the kool-aid. But I understand, no matter what Bush says, it’s an automatic lie. Ironic that a Christian would brand another an automatic liar no matter what. And give full creditbility and support to a false prophet and bona-fide child of Satan

    3) Sentence for senctence, all wrong, misconstrued or out right lies. It is reasonable for some to doubt both versions, but sKerry won’t release the 180 in order to set the record straight. Why is that? You’ve been bamboozled.

  60. I was going to vote Republican this year, but Rob has changed my mind. How could I possibly vote for an organization that is so inept. Consider:

    1) They have been intimidating voters for 25 years.

    2) They have been able to stop only three (3) people from voting. That is ONE person in every eight elections - NATIONWIDE!!!! - not counting primaries.

I need an organization that is a little more successful. Consider the Dems and John Kerry:

Kerry received one purple heart for every person that the Republicans stopped from voting. And he did it without spilling a drop of his own blood or receiving enemy fire. And he did it in 4 months. That’s what I call efficient.

Sproul is out there folks. He has disenfranchised thousands of Democrats already THIS year. Look him up on Google News. You’ll find out how he’s hurting your party. Republicans should stop him. Your party has a proud long record of being on the right side of a lot of issues. Right now though, there are some on your side who are cheating. I do know there are Democrats out there who are making mistakes and doing things they shouldn’t. I just think you guys should acknowledge your own. Its not kool-aid, its facts. If its Kool-Aid, how come no direct response at all to the Sproul allegations?

  63. Why Blacks are voting for Bush in record numbers

Ø Calling people who don’t support her husband all kinds of vile names

Ø Saying black children in the islands ravaged by hurricanes should go naked and just be fed

Ø Calling the President “brain dead”

Ø Aiding and comforting the enemy

Ø Insulting the accomplishments of our soldiers overseas fighting

Ø Voting against the money to supply and equip our troops in a time of war

Ø Paving the way for gays to get married

Ø Drive by shootings of campaign headquarters

Ø Breaking and entering into campaign headquarters

Ø Stealing lap tops from campaign headquarters

    Ø Injuring campaign headquarters workers

    Ø Assaulting campaign chief

Ø Calling out the gay daughter of one of the candidates on national TV

Ø Giving false hope to paralysis victims claiming they will walk if their ticket is elected

Ø Lying about their opponent instituting a draft when it is their party who actually submitted a draft bill on the floor of Congress.

    Ø Calling reporters “scum bags”

Ø Charging election fraud and intimidation even where and when it doesn’t happen

Ø Paying people with crack cocaine to register people to vote

Ø Using forged documents in order to hurt their opponent.

Ø Stealing secret documents from the National Archives

And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

  64. I have no idea why I’m talking to one of these people….

All I’ve been able to find on Sproul & Associates are allegations that are being researched. I see one allegation from a former employee (disgruntled? trustworthy? hard to tell), and another that has people who claimed to have been canvassed saying that the canvasser told them their registration cards would be destroyed if they registered as Democrats. It’s difficult to know if these people are paid by the DNC to scream “disenfranchisement” or truly feel their “right to vote” has been taken away because someone told them things like this. No one has kept them from going to their own county/city election boards to register, from what I’ve read, and certainly no one has kept them from voting (Nov. 2 isn’t quite here yet).

I’ll keep looking for the other information, unless I grow bored. I tend to do that with libs.

  66. Folks:

Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports and the Nevada reports have it the opposite as you’ve said. Sproul and Associates are posing as a Democratic organization. And there is nothing illegal with not registering other citizens. Immoral, yes. We should all be particpating in elections, not just some of us. But Sproul is accused of much more. The allegations are that he has destroyed legitimate registrations he promised to deliver directly becasue they were from Democrats. This IS voter fraud. The only reason he’s getting caught is because it turns out he didn’t pay the canvassers.

Someone else has remarked that these are only allegations. ALL OF THE THINGS YOU HAVE SAID ABOUT DEMOCRATIC FRAUD are also ONLY ALLEGATIONS! With the notable exception of the ill-thoughtout demonstrations of a few weeks ago. The shot in the Knoxville B/C HQ? NOBODY KNOWS who did that! Likely that it was some crazy kid Kerry supporter, but everything you’ve cited is basically only an allegation. The crack? Only an allegation. Even the smashed Democratic HQ windows with the Bush bumper sticker left over is only an allegation against the Republicans. For all we know, BOTH parties could be staging the majority of this. I doubt it however.

  78. Mr. Kelso: Democrats are corrupt to the core? Sir, I am a Democrat. Are you saying I am corrupt? You know nothing of me other than I argue hard.

Its best if we start looking at each other as human beings. I have presented evidence of serious accusations of voter fraud on the part of the Republicans, yet I do not think that Republicans on the whole are corrupt. Ill-informed perhaps, but I will never go after anyone’s bona fides without both evidence and good reason to do so. I think these are the basic duties we owe one another as human beings–to judge each person we interact with on their own merits and not fall victim to a culture of blind hate.

I beleive that the traditional Republican values of public thrift, individual autonomy and individual responsibility offer much to America and its political discourse. But I also believe that your party has strayed far from those ideals during the last 14 years. When fools like Rush Limbaugh defend atrocities like Abu Ghraib by remarking that the soldiers there “needed to blow off some steam,” I know something is deeply wrong with the Republican party. When I see that our country has embarked on a reckless foreign policy which finds us trying to impose our world view on a country that didn’t ask us to do it, I know something is deeply wrong with the Republican party. When I see that the party of Lincoln has lost its way on issues of racial justice, I know there is something deeply wrong with the Republican party. When I see the country’s coffers empty and huge coporate welfare checks proping up corporations which choose not to compete in the time-honored free marketplace, I know there is something wrong with the Republican party. I hope that you, too will someday realize this and bring your party back to its senses.

  83. I see all of the stories about fraud on both sides, but I see a key difference. What is happening to the Democrats and their allies is simple. They are paying for signatures, generally the going rate is 1 signature for a dollar. But the people generally hired for this sort of work are not making a lot of money and some of them try to get more money by making up signatures and addresses and the like. They get the dollar and then fade away. When voter registration cards are sent out by the election boards, they get returned “no such address.” The end result is that Democratic organizations are defrauded out of money and don’t register anyone else. But people like Drudge spin it as “voter fraud”There are not major numbers of people voting twice or anything like that. I think you’d be very hard pressed to find documented examples of same person voting twice in that way.

On the other hand, the Sproul allegations are worse. A get-out the vote operation paid for by the Republican National Committee and run by the former Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, is accused in multiple states of systematically destroying the registration documents of the other party.

Small potatoes v. big bad fraud.

  84. This Just came over the wire: Six Republican Officials Indicted in South Dakota for Ballot Fraud:

Six face charges in absentee ballot probe
By Carson Walker Associated Press Writer

SIOUX FALLS — Six people face charges in connection with absentee ballot applications that were filled out on some South Dakota college campuses, Attorney General Larry Long and other officials said Friday.

They were identified as Joseph Alick, 28; Nathan Mertz, 20; Todd Schlekeway, 27; Rachel Hoff, 22; and Eric Fahrendorf, 24.

Fahrendorf had been listed as a Republican Party employee.

Those five face charges in Minnehaha County. Jennifer Giannonatti faces a similar accusation in Pennington County, authorities said.

All had resigned earlier from a GOP get-out-the-vote effort after questions arose as to whether some absentee ballot requests were signed by the student in the presence of the notary public whose seal was affixed to the request.

Larry Russell, who headed the Republican Victory operation, resigned earlier this month. Russell had sought the party’s nomination for a special U.S. House election in June and most recently directed the GOP’s get-out-the-vote program.

Russell was replaced by Herb Jones, manager of U.S. Senate candidate John Thune’s 2002 Senate bid.

Several students on various campuses have questioned the absentee ballot application process, saying young men secured their applications, and no women witnessed their signatures, yet the notarization of the documents was signed by a woman.

  85. Steven:

Abuse like that is no joking matter. He wasn’t joking either, he was trying to minimize the events. They set us back far in Iraq.

Bush always trys to portray anyone who opposes his incompetent way of running the war as being against terrorist fanatics. Nothing could be further from the truth. Bush needs to go because he doesn’t fight terrorists hard enough. Posturing and will are not the same thing. Fallujah, anyone? Bush’s own Marine general told him not to attack–he did anyway. After three days he decided to call it off, again against the advice of the Marine general in charge. He then handed the town over to the enemy. Put a Saddam general in charge and gave the local Iraqi forces new weapons. Within days the local Iraqis were using those guns to kill our boys. This is weakness, pure and simple. Bush showed the terrorists in Fallujah whose boss–them. Kerry will pound those people to smithereens, don’t you doubt it. Bush has lied again and again about Kerry’s record and smeared his service because he knows that he is a failure as a war leader.

  86. That’s funny, the illegal fraud of 2002’s Senate race by dems on reservations was never prosecuted. Nor the lady in Mil. Wis. who was bribing homeless with cigs. Nor the thousands of illegal aliens who vote. Nor the thousands of people who vote absentee in their state and again at the polls in Florida. Nor were any dems prosecuted for messin’ with our brave soldiers absentee ballots.

It is just plain incompetence I guess that in precients with large black populations, all controlled by dems, that the voters were not served properly. Who’s messin’ with whose votes?

  87. As I have stated before, please call me when you get a sense of humor. Rush condemed these rogue soldiers many times. What he would not do is what many of you lefties did, try to paint these soldiers as the face of the real military.

We were all set to attack Fallujah when the above controversy erupted. The military asked Dan Rather to wait a few weeks to air his report, then we pulled out. Another victory for the terrorists, thanks to the liberal media.

  88. I think that’s the crux of it. Reps gone bad get busted by the law. Dems gone bad get reverse spin by the MSM and a wink from Dem politicians.

Rob W: the reason most people ain’t going to spend time debating this voter fraud issue is simple. The Dems and their terrorist arm the KKK — and their stepchile, de union — have decades upon decades of proven atrocities and abject incompetence in serving their “constituients”.

As Steven has said, and I’ll repeat; I categorically denounce any chicanery by the Reps. Now when will the Dems categorically denounce the misdeeds of their “over-exuberent” operatives?

You accuse Bush of refusing to apologize for his mistakes. The dems refuse to apologize for their crimes.

As for Sproul, the allegations are being investigated and when the verdict comes, I’m perfectly willing to let the chips fall wherever. On the other hand, when will the Dems toss out the clowns that continue to either by ineptitude or by sheer malice, continue to disenfranchise the voters.

Think of it. Forget about Rove, the real geniuses are Carville, Begala and friends who again and again subjourn truth & decency. If their internal polls show that Blacks are trending out of the party.

What better way to retain power by goofing up the election process so that Blacks don’t get to vote, then claim intimidation and what not. Then spin it as a Black vote denied is a Dem vote lost. You have your VRWC and this is my VLWC. If I were a betting man, I’d say my odds would be stronger going with the VLWC as the sinister force maniplating politics.

And you keep citing the MSM!!! Is the MSM now paragon of objective truth? Bwwuahahaha. Bush in cahoots with Enron et al. What about the major scandals going on with the major newspapers and their LONG-TERM inflation of subscription rolls? Don’t hear much and if any, on page H13, instead of front and above the fold. The numbers fixing by MSM’s green eyeshade crew is no less serious than the fraud inflicted by Enron, Worldcom et al. Or are those false subscriptions automatically categorized under corporate cronyism by Bush?

Why do I get the feeling Eliot Spitzer won’t be crusading against MSM’ers that lie on their numbers? Cause it is part of the VLWC support network.

3 Nov can’t come soon enough. And I’m going to vote straight Rep. Not because they deserve it, but because the Dems have done nothing to deserve consideration for as long as they condone thuggery and intimidation and oppression by any means necessary.

  89. When you ain’t got facts, make sure you fall back on the “media are all liars” story. Or fall back on to “Democrats get away.” Can’t you see spin when its right in front of your face? You have no facts, no position, nothing to support your beleifs on this issue. Your people are indicted, not ours. And the history of the last 20 years has shown that the vast majority of the cheating has been on your side. You cannot argue with the facts right in front of you. All I’ve asked is that you provide evidence. You have none. I call that losing the argument.

Rove’s operatives have been calling reporters and editors and convincing them to run “democratic fraud” stories for weeks. Why? So he can have justification for sending 6300 lawyers to Cleveland Ohio minority precincts to challenge the bona fides of every voter–resulting in long delays at the polls which make those waiting in line turn away.
