This morning I wondered what I’d blog about. Before I read the news I always check the blog first to delete the inevitable troll trackbacks and comments. On my first day back from hiatus, I’ve had to delete quite a few.
But the contention has reached a new level. A few black liberal bloggers who hate me have given up all attempts to rebut my arguments, if they ever did so at all. Reasoned discussion be damned. In the beginning they at least feigned interest in my arguments; now they just don’t care anymore. They’re focused on me.
I’ve never named or linked to these people because what they want desperately is my attention, for reasons unknown to me. What a sad world they must inhabit to constantly seek out those who want nothing to do with them. I’m embarrassed for them.
I checked my site meter this morning to find hits coming from a site run by a popular black liberal blogger. I’m sure some of you can figure out who the person is. Apparently he didn’t know who I was before yesterday.
I refuse to get into a flame war with another blogger so my policy of not naming or linking to those prone to such things is in effect. Without offering a biblical argument or even one that makes sense, he wrote:
Via *****, we find this idiotic post from La Shawn Barber. La Shawn is apparently black, female, and right-wing. And now she’s advocating the idea that Christians can’t be liberals.Just when you think a group of people can’t get dumber…they do. I may not personally be religious, but the idea of just deciding who does and doesn’t get to be a Christian based on their political philosophy is asinine. Somehow I don’t think God is checking your voter registration card.

You know, I’ve thought many times just how much bank I could make as a “black conservative”. I could get the Heritage Foundation to pay me big bucks to write asinine columns for Townhall.com, go to parties with Michelle Malkin and JC Watts, and write books like “Slavery: Not So Bad”.
But I like having a soul.
The person who provided the “hat tip” is sad enough in his own right and seems to have developed an obsession with me. This morning I deleted his fourth or fifth trackback. There aren’t enough hours in the day for me as it is, and I’ve made it my business not to go after any blogger for any reason. I write about news and offer my commentary on it. Apparently others follow a different course. Whatever suits them.
Being attacked by a high-profile liberal is new. All the others are low-traffic gnats buzzing around my head. Interesting. As I said, no flame wars for me. My words speak for themselves and if one, just one, of my detractors opened the Bible and read it, perhaps we’d have something to discuss. Until then, thanks for making my hit counter rise. God could be using their vitriol to bring some of their readers to salvation. What my critics meant for evil, God meant for good.
If I know nothing else in this world, I know this: My prayers have been answered. God has me right where he wants me to be.

Don’t sweat the “high profile blogger”. He’s a sad story. He used to be a fairly interesting blogger. He’s become a joke in the past year or so. The post you quote is a sign of what a sick little fella he’s become.
As to the whole “soul” thing – he sold his to George Soros; he works for Media Matters, and his blog has devolved from an intelligent blog into a giggly fratboy spin-sheet.
I – and most of your readers – read you for intelligent commentary on politics and faith. I/we read the blogger in question for sad laughs. You’ve got the better blog, and the better end of the deal.

I think he should stick to his own playground. I think I know who you’re referring to, but I never go there on purpose (some people trick me with their wily links!)
In any case, I would think people of this ilk would be used to the argument that a particular ideology or party is against one’s own identity. I’ve seen it plenty of times saying that gays shouldn’t be Republican… oh, and that blacks shouldn’t be Republican. Turnabout is fair play, especially as the anti-Christian elements of various liberal movements isn’t exactly =hidden=.
Now that you have their attention, STAND on their necks, you know if you stand on some ones neck, you cut off their voice. When cutting off their voice, you must have something to say. SAY IT and SAY IT LOUD. It’s time for more black conservatives to speak up and be heard. So swat the small gnats and take hold of the big ones and squash them dead (i.e. silence their nonsense). In my devotion this morning, God said together with Him I cannot fail. So my God Fearing Blogger Babe, go to the next step. If God be for you WHO can be against you (no one but the kingdom of darkness). See ya, I’ve already cast my vote. President Bush is the Victor!
La Shawn, liberals are very hateful people, as you well know. They are highly intolerant of others with opposing beliefs. I used to post on Slate’s political message boards, and the venom spewing forth from these individuals was unbelievably foul. I had to leave when I realized the true sociopathic nature of these people. This hatred is exactly why I believe it will be a miracle if the president is re-elected. All we can really do is to continue to represent the kinds of good and decent values that have made this a tolerable world in which to live.

That they are spending so much energy and time on you is great. You struck a nerve. It’s like the sinner who goes to church for the first time. The pastor preaches about sin, he strikes a nerve, and the sinner vows never to go back. The pastor is mean and hateful and bigotted, however deep down, something struck a nerve. The sinner finds himself going back over in his mind what the pastor was saying. He tries to shake it off but he can not.
You struck a nerve, and one that won’t just go a way. It’s a nerve that has been there for centuries.
Keep spreading the word. God gave all of us freedom of choice. All you can do is know that you spread the word, put the information out there. It’s up to those reading and listening to act upon.

It’s obviously a major blind-spot that a group of people who pride themselves on tolerance & diversity are the least tolerant or diverse. But remember the Bible says to “Beware when all men speak good of you…” [wonder if Kerry ever thought of that?] At any rate. Keep speaking truth. It will set us free.

As others have mentioned, liberals are VERY intolerant of opposing views and will always make an effort to shout down, or shut out those opposing views. Failing that, they inevitably resort to denigrating the person espousing those opposing views. I get a big kick out of your continuing to frustrate their efforts to do either.

There are some that may be put off by his tough talk but he always seems to be right on the mark.

Since God alone will ultimately Perfom the truth-testing for the one who claims the label, we can only wait for that day. Of course James has some interesting things to say regarding the outward evidence of embracing the cross and claiming the Christian label.

Think about this: Senator Kerry makes his Vietnam experience the centerpiece of his campaign. President Bush says “his service is more courageous because he was in harm’s way and I was not.”
Michael Moore wins an oscar for his demonstrably false “documentary,” Kitty Kelly becomes almost a guest host promoting her anti-Bush book.
The Swift Boat veterans finally have enough and publish a book “Unfit for Command” exposing the Senator’s actual service in Vietnam and recalling his anti-US testimony in the 70s. Nobody gives them an interview on prime time TV in spite of the fact that Kerry’s entire chain of command signed an affidavit and request Kerry release his military records. Ted Koppel decides to “investigate” the claims by going to Vietnam and interviewing the communists instead of any of the Swiftees. This allows Maureen Dowd and Molly Ivins to proclaim that the swiftees are “now discredited”, in spite of the fact that the Kerry campaign had to admit (based on Kerry’s own book) that the first Purple Heart was “probably from a self inflicted wound”. POWs put together a documentary called “Stolen Honor” which used the recorded testimony of Senator Kerry and showing how that both led aid and comfort to the enemy and resulted in prolonged torture of the POWs. Since noone can claim that Kerry did not say the things which we have on videotape, the Democrats want to suppress the showing of the film on Sinclair.
The Republicans did not try to suppress Michael Moore, ABC, CBS, NBC, et al. Even when Dan Rather used fake memos for his hit piece on the President (Dan wanted to know what about the time “missing” from GW Bush’s guard service. Why does he care when the last “duly elected” president was a draft-dodging, perjuring, sex hound?), all we wanted was for them to admit the documents were forgeries. President Bush completed the DD Form 180 (authorizing release of all his military records), which Senator Kerry refuses to do.
I strayed from the point. Conservatives counter lies by publishing the truth. Liberals counter the truth by attempting to suppress it.
Remember, the new acronym for the MSM is: “ABCNNBCBS”, since they’re all in cahoots anyway.
I’ve made it a point to avoid going to left-wing blogs and flaming them. I do have some liberal-leaning blogs on my blogroll, and we have friendly discussions now and again about issues, but they are just that, friendly.
I stay out of the liberals’ sandbox, and I wish they would stay out of ours. And when I do choose to play in their sandbox, I simply leave a different type of sand to consider. They, like cats, leave something else entirely.

I wish there was mutual respect. I love a good argument (friendly that is…) and will spend hours on research just to keep the banter going with a worthy opponent.
But there seems to be a type of person who is determined to be right at all costs who will make up “facts” for their argument and when cornered with the truth just try to shout you down. Weird.
Yesterday in our morning production meeting, one of the folders mentioned that 9 guys on the supreme court elected our president, not the American people. I pointed out to him that this is not the truth, at best you can say 5 of the 9 ruled that you can’t selectively recount a state and sent the final ruling back where it belonged in the Florida Supreme Court.
Then of course, the under the breath comment, “$200 million gone and spent.” When I pointed out that it is $200 million allocated, not yet spent, he argued back, “for every dollar the TELL us they’re spending, they spend two.”
If I were Kerry, I’d be embarrassed and ashamed of the level of mental reasoning my followers have.

Vitriol has become the norm for the lib viewpoint. It’s a shame we are so polarized that certain people choose to attack the person and not their arguments. That shows the lack of intelligence and eloquence people truly have when it comes to argumentative discourse. Keep doing what you are doing. While there is plenty of mean and spiteful stuff coming from people on the right, the default behaivor on the left seems to have moved so far into the rude and unacceptable region.
I myself was spit on by a young suburbanite yesterday in Philly’s market east train station. He and his patchulli soaked cadre of friends were in town to hear Clinton, Kerry and Street speak, and were calling out “You must vote for Kerry” and “Stop the disenfranchisement of minority voters” and such. As I went to go through the turnstyle to swap trains, the young man (no more than 22, I would guess) blocks my path, and asks (tells, really) “you’re voting for Kerry, right, guy?” I say no, I’ll be voting for Bush. He then spits on my jacket and yells fascist (ever see the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, when the pod people scream?). I say what the hell, and demand to know where he gets off. He retreats to his little band of friends, and dares me to take them all on… great way to start the work week, fresh off vacation
The thing is, I don’t see nearly the level of hostility coming from the right as I do from the left. Maybe because I live in a liberal bastion. When I lived in central PA, I saw people chuckle and snort at people in Clinton Gore 4 more shirts, but I cannot recall intimidation, spitting or vadalism.
If you do a news search, I doubt you’ll find as many (and certainly not more) instances of righty partisans attacking, verbally abusing or vadalizing lefties as you will the other way round.

It would be a lengthy and difficult news search — and even then, whatever the result we might want to put it down to media bias. And I’m not in the US, so I’m not running up against the crowds that you are. But I do read a number of blogs, and I’m sure that it’s true that — I’ll do a survey if you insist, but this is my instinct — that in the “God-blogs” it is the conservatives who are most likely to be vituperative and vitriolic.
One possibility is that this is merely down to my perception. After all, we’re all more likely to be sympathetic to those we broadly support, whilst putting the worst possible interpretation on the words of those we disagree with. But that’s likely to cut both ways I would have thought.
And I don’t see any evidence that “lefties” are any more likely to be vitriolic than their opposite numbers. (Especially given that in my book John Kerry hardly qualifies as a leftie! ;o) )

I believe that there are individuals on both sides of the aisle who are out of control. Yet, Liberals here in Raleigh have plain ole lost their minds! i get on the bus there other day and the bus driver and a passenger are talking. Passenger mentions “we got to get this guy out”. Reference is obvious to Bush. He then turns to me and says,”Right, brotha”. I give a neat smile and didn’t say anything. He looks at me a second time, and this time I say,”No, actually I support GWB”. Oh heck, why did I let the editing valve on my mouth allow me to say that? He proceeded to go nuts! Bush is this, Bush is that….By the time I had gotten off the bus, he had brought up everything from stolen election to jobs to Supreme Court to Clarence Thomas to sellout. Funny thing was, I forgot to get a transfer when I stepped off the bus, I turned around and tried to get the bus driver’s attention, he closed the doors in my face and sped off! Funniest thing of the day.
I am amazed how Libs say that conservatives are mean-spirited and intolerant? Interesting.

When an opponent goes ad hominem they have already given up on reasoning. Suffer when opposing is hopeless. Oppose when suffering is pointless.
I don’t know who this person is (I’d like to, but do understand your reasoning for not linking to them).
The person is clearly not one of substance and is also clearly not a person who is familiar with Christianity.
Don’t let these persons get to you.
In my mind, when a persons attacks you and attacks you without making use of substance and facts they then have made themselves a useful tool as their attacks then go to further demonstrate the particular point you might be making when the attack comes.
Voices like yours are needed.
Not because you happen to be black and conservative, but because you ARE a person of substance. And persons of substance of any skin tone are becoming a rare thing in this America imo.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a pack of established Jew haters and one neo-nazi, in fact men whose names I had read about for years, come after me for writing about a particular subject. My hits spiked. They told one and they told one and they told one, like that old shampoo commercial from way back. So what did I do? I wrote another post about the same subject. One even dared me to “act like a man”, tell them my real name and show my tough on HIS site. Yeah, riiiight. They wrote in my comments and after I counterpointed with facts, I mocked them . Eventually they left. I said to myself, there is no way someone is going to come to my blog, attempt to whittle me down, and get away with it. I might not have won the ongoing war against the Jews but I won a minor battle.
Why are you forging comments, Lashawn? You have a comment on your blog that wasn’t even made by the person you altered it to look like it was made by. Inquiring minds want to know.
I have no idea what comment you’re referring to, but when I edit comments, as I have a right to do since I’m paying for the bandwidth on this blog, I usually indicate that I’ve exercised that right by signing it “Admin”, as I’m doing with this one. – Admin

I have degrees in engineering, so it’s fairly difficult to out-talk me when using reason and logic. An we know how uninformed, highly emotional, immature, gov’ment-dependent, ignit, non-independent thinkin folks act–can’t attack the argument, attack the opponent. Think back to grade school…couldn’t figure out a good comeback…”yo mama!” Same drama, different decade.
You KNOW how us “niggaz” is…can’t stand to see another one of us get somethin’ they ain’t got…an education, a career, home-training, common sense.
It’s nice that a committed Christian sista can obviously stay true to herself (but that’s truly everyone who is in Christ) and withstand the “wisdom” of the world.

It’s great to see you back!! I missed reading your posts during the time you were away. I love the fact that you mix scripture into your posts and it’s not purely political — I wish more people would quote the Bible in everyday speech/writings.
The thing we all have to keep telling ourselves is that it’s not a question of if God is on our side, it’s if we’re on God’s side. When we say one can’t be a liberal and a Christian at the same time, it’s not because God is on the conservative’s side (except if we bless Israel, then he’ll bless us); it’s because the liberals are not on God’s side.
