Bush542 comments and trackbacks for the live-commenting post: Thanks! :)

Bush 3, Kerry 0. Now let’s get this election thing over with it.

Bush is the better man, but will he win? He will protect the country the way John Kerry can’t. But will he win? Bush is a Christian and a patriot who loves America. Kerry is an elite globalist who’ll sell us down the river. But will he win? I don’t trust the electorate on this one, but I hope these next weeks go by quickly. I’m tired of the partisan games.

Let’s get back to living!

Dreading Dred Scott

by La Shawn on October 13, 2004

in General

I’m arriving late to this event, but I wanted to add to the noise around President Bush’s comments on the Dred Scott decision (case). The Supreme Court ruled that Scott, a slave, was property and could not obtain the rights of citizenship.

Dred Scott’s case holds a unique place in American constitutional history as an example of the Supreme Court trying to impose a judicial solution on a political problem. The ruling, which helped to precipitate the Civil War, has long been considered one of the court’s great “self-inflicted” wounds. (Source)

Just One Minute (a blog I recommend you visit) does a round-up of comments round the blogosphere. More on this later. I want to keep it on the radar screen.

Addendum (reasonable hour): Now that I’ve had some caffeine, let’s delve a bit deeper into Dred Scott, shall we?

John Kerry and Jeremiah

by La Shawn on October 12, 2004

in Faith, Justice, Liberals - Kerry, Lunacy

fraudsUpdate: John Kerry and I have had this “conversation” before. Back in March, I addressed his butchering of James 2 (my first Instalanche and generated about 60 comments on my old blog), and this was the follow-up. Also, I’ve edited the post below for clarity.
———-

Look at that photo. Only God can judge a man’s heart, but to me they all look like phonies, phonies, phonies! And look how Jesse’s rolling his eyes at Sharpton.

I read an article this morning that caused heartburn. According to the Washington Times, John Kerry “preached” in another black church yesterday and pandered about jobs and healthcare.

Superman, 1952-2004

by La Shawn on October 11, 2004

in General

ReeveI wasn’t a fan of Christopher Reeve (or those red boots he wore in “Superman”), but I liked the first and second “Superman” movies, especially the first. I had a crush on Clark Kent but not on Superman. Strange?

I liked him in this movie.

Reeve lobbied for more stem cell research, a very controversial topic I’ve never written about. Here’s all the information you’ll ever want to know about Reeve and a site devoted to the Superman character.

Wait a minute…now that I think about, I didn’t like the blue tights, either!

Substantive blogging to resume tomorrow. Come back and see me!

Grace And You

by La Shawn on October 10, 2004

in Faith

Update (10/12): Be sure to check out my lunch time post today. Yesterday, a black pastor compared John Kerry to King David, the prophet Jeremiah and Jesus Christ himself! I have a few things to say about that…

***

A couple of days ago I blogged about the most recent beheading and touched upon why God allows evil. It’s a question even Christians ask while knowing the answer. But I believe the more appropriate question is, “Why is there good in the world?”

Some of you may have heard the phrase, “total depravity.” It means that man is sinful through and through, though not as bad as he could be. Despite what humanists think, man is not inherently good, committing evil acts only because of his environment, poverty, ignorance, racism or the latest fad-excuse. We are inherently bad. Every word, thought and action is tainted by sin because we are sinful. In our unregenerate and rebellious state, we do not seek after God nor do we want to please or obey him.

Bush 2, Kerry 0

by La Shawn on October 8, 2004

in Bush Good

BushUpdate II (10/9): I hear rumblings in the comment section about Kerry’s plans. I think I know where they may be. See this link.

Thank you for your participation on the live-commenting post! It generated 165 comments and trackbacks so far. I’ve closed commenting, but trackbacks are still open. Instapundit linked to it, so it’s still worth a trackback or two.

This is the after-debate post. Who won the debate and what is your overall assessment? You know what I think!

Live-Commenting The Debate!

by La Shawn on October 8, 2004

in Bush Good, Liberals - Kerry

pollUpdate (8:58 p.m.): Already an update! Instapundit has linked to this post, inviting the blog-less to live-comment. Welcome readers! :)

Update II: It is done. Right Journal says: “Mr. Bush won.”

****

I’m not watching the debate, but I invite readers to “live-comment” during the event.

We bloggers run “hybrid online sites that blend news, gossip and opinion”, according this article, and the blogosphere will be buzzing for sure. I just hope President Bush is well-prepped, forceful, aggressive and in Kerry’s face about every contradiction, inconsistency and lie.

Live-commenting is open.

The Beheadings

by La Shawn on October 8, 2004

in War - Islamofascism

Brit“British Hostage Beheaded in Iraq, Video Shows”

I’m sure sorry about all this. I have quite a few Islamofacist rants left in me, but I just don’t feel going into one today.

Why are non-Iraqi, non-military people doing over there anyway?

I find myself asking this question every time I hear of another beheading. There are various reasons, but still…

What if some maniac started hacking off heads “in the name of Christ”? What would be my reaction? Am I too hard on so-called moderate Muslims?

This runs through my mind from time to time.

Why does God allow this?

Anita Baker Returns

by La Shawn on October 8, 2004

in General

Baker Ten years ago, at the pinnacle of her career, multiple Grammy Award-winning R&B singer, Anita Baker, gave it up to raise her two sons and care for sick relatives.

My reasons for listening to Baker were purely self-centered at first. I acquired a taste for her jazzy style of singing only after many people, including members of my own family, said I resembled her. (No vocal resemblance!)

Baker has returned to performing, but on a very limited schedule. She works a couple of days a week and will be taking her kids on tour with her. I suppose it isn’t much of a sacrifice for a wealthy entertainer to work this way.

The Duelfer Report: So What?

by La Shawn on October 8, 2004

in General

I haven’t read it and probably won’t. I’m taking it easy tonight because the holiday weekend will be spent working on projects, one BIG, others small (including developing an op-ed based on the “Acting White” study). I won’t give details on the big one unless it’s successful. If not, I’ll pretend I never mentioned it. ;)

So this post will be mainly updates on what others (including yourselves) are saying about the report. The report basically reports that no WMDs were found in Iraq. As I state in the post title, so what? No doubt John Kerry will use this bit of alarmist information to hammer President Bush tonight, who had better be on top of things. Good grief.

Better Put On Your Glasses!

by La Shawn on October 7, 2004

in General

The journalists at the New York Times are so biased they can’t see straight. I enjoy reading their always-lengthy corrections page. This appeared today (reg. req.):

An article yesterday that examined statements by Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator John Edwards in their debate on Tuesday night incorrectly supported Mr. Edwards’s statement that millionaires who receive stock dividends pay “a lower tax rate than the men and women who are receiving paychecks for serving on the ground in Iraq.” While some military officers may pay a higher rate, most soldiers do not. The monthly pay of enlisted troops in Iraq, as in other combat zones — and the pay of officers there, up to a ceiling — is exempt from federal income taxes. [Original article]

First of all, I have to note that the NYT properly adds an apostrophe “s” to the end of singular nouns ending in “s” instead of only the apostrophe. (Edwards’ hat, for example). So many writers don’t know the grammatical rule (drives me crazy).

Demond Hunter Is Home!

by La Shawn on October 7, 2004

in General

I just received an e-mail from Demond Hunter. He was serving our country in Iraq, and he’s just returned home! Some of my fellow TCB members and I are acquainted with him through blogging, and I know they will be as happy and relieved as I am. Some of you may remember this post. Please read it again.

I’ll update this post later today with more information.

Update: Demond will be blogging about the recent Iraq-had-no-WMDs report soon, and I will link to it. Check out Power Line’s post. More on the report from B4B.

Bush: “War in Iraq Was Right Despite No WMDs”

The Oil-For-Food Stuff And Other Thievery

by La Shawn on October 7, 2004

in General

I confess my ignorance on this matter, and I’d appreciate if you commenters with knowledge of the oil-for-food scandal would tell me what it’s all about. JustOneMinute blogs about it and Halliburton. (I’m beginning to dislike that word.) Power Line also has information.

Since I can’t follow all the news all the time, what’s this about liberal thugs stealing campaign signs? And violence? Not the “give peace a chance” crowd! I thought they were into slaughtering only the unborn. You live and learn, I guess.

Idiocy By Any Other Name

by La Shawn on October 7, 2004

in Education, Race Preferences

WilliamsWhy are ignorant people put in charge of something as important as education? It is astounding that anyone in their right mind would entrust their children to dim-witted administrators and pencil-pushers who believe the best for black children isn’t excellence, high achievement and dignity, but mediocrity, lowered expectations, empty accolades and high self-esteem.

Apparently too many students were failing classes or flunking out altogether at Benedict College, in my home state. Administrators decided to spread the poverty of lowered standards by scrapping traditional methods of measuring aptitude and base students’ grades on “effort” rather than actual work completed or knowledge gained.
