You know, I wish I was in the land of cotton. Old times there are not forgotten. Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land. In Dixie Land where I was born in (South Carolina), early on one frosty morning (actually, it was May). Look away! Look away! Look away! Dixie Land.
Jesse Jackson is a little upset that Republicans want their own poll watchers at the polls, along with Democratic poll watchers. He says:
The whole idea of Republicans spending time trying to import challengers into the black community is Old South politics, a type of intimidation.
When Democrats send challengers, it’s called protecting the poor black folks. When Republicans send challengers, it’s called the Jim Crow intimidation of black folks. Blacks are being swatted around like pawns in a chess game awry. Disgusting.

That Jesse Jackson would play the race card, denounce his own practices when anyone else uses them…
I am shocked. SHOCKED
What does he think about the DNC’s call to claim racism and ethnic intimidation, even if there is none?
For it, I am sure, so long as good black democrats are making the claim (or those saintly white liberals are making it on their behalf).
You know, La Shawn – people CANNOT get it into their heads that conservative (or Republicans) are NORMAL, thinking people … we don’t eat babies, don’t lynch black people in our backyards, and we don’t aren’t all fat, white, balding rich men. Hollywood has really done it’s part to “define” for the world what a Republican is … and JJ plays right into suporting these stereotypes.
I can’t stand Jesse Jackson, but there seems to be no other person the mainstream media will accept as a spokesperson for many black Americans. Jesse is the eternal black bogeyman–the Arafat of black America. Al isn’t any better. And I think Al is gay!
I think people should be able to vote without intimidation or harassment from either side. That said, if you don’t think SOME Republicans are going to try to limit black votes in whatever way possible in battleground states, I think you are a being naive.
I think this election, if Bush wins, will present the prospect of violence and riots. Just my two cents.
Yeah, Republicans “disenfranchise” voters at the same rate liberals cry “racism” at the drop of the proverbial hat. That’s the second time in a week someone’s accused me of naivety. Be careful how you throw around that word. I’ll just take my naive self offline.
Oh, you were born in SC, too? I was born in Anderson, as my parents were Clemson students. I’ve got relatives in Goose Creek, Charleston, Florence, and Marion. Whereabouts are your kinfolk from?
Oh, and I have nothing to say about Jesse. There was a point where the man had a few principles other than self-aggrandizement, but that time is long gone.
“aren’t all fat, white, balding rich men”
hmmm, 4 out of 5… maybe the new diet will knock that down to 3… and a few more years of Dubya’s tax cuts will bring me back to 4 again
Hey now!!! Watch out there, people!!! He’s back, though he never really went anywhere. Just layin low in da Bushes.
Anyway, don’t get me started on Jesse – y’all know how rude I can be. Let’s just say that he represents the desperation of the Old Negro Movement, the non-Cosby’s that are having a heard time facing their 30-40 years of shortsighted failure.
Been hidin & denyin the dirty laundry for years, and it’s simply easier to keep doing so…….all the while, just-a-stinkin up the joint. I used to lie & deny like that when I was, like, 6; no 5-1/2, still in kindergarten. And the 4 year-olds just ate it up. I was 6, Jesse’s about 56…..same difference. All that said, just wait till Dubya gets 14, 16, 18% of the black vote. Jesse might a have a stroke.
Stereotypes……hmmm. Not fat, but I used to be. Nor am I a white boy, but I am on the inside and sound mighty white – so they say. Balding? No. Doesn’t run in the family, plus, they got Hair Club For Men. Rich? Maybe one day, if I can stop spending this huge raise I just got – on bling. (Would ya believe the Boss man told me $6,000……..but didn’t say he meant NET; blew my mind, but I ain’t complainin. Luvv them tax cuts.)
Other than that, I’m your average republican man.
(Whassup, Wuzzy!!?? My boy!! Ms. Barber? G’day madam.)
Beau returns! I hope all is well. I thought you’d fallen off the edge of the earth.
Are we a bit surprised about the tactics of Jesse Hi-Jackson and his cohorts?
Why should any honest voter being intimidated by having to demonstrate that they are indeed eligible to vote? In my state, a voter registration card and/or driver’s licensce will suffice. I’m shaking in my shoes, just thinking that tomorrow someone might (gasp) ask to see my driver’s license.
Mayflower, you don’t get it. Black folks are infants in the eyes of white liberals. I don’t know how I’ll manage tomorrow. Maybe I should call Johnny Cochran now, just in case…
I have finally found somebody who doesn’t tow the “party line”. You have called the Rev.Jackson what he is. I’m fed up with all this rot that we need white folks and the”gumint”to help us vote. The senator from North Carolina and democratic veep candidate has said to us Black folk that our votes will count this year. Thats SOOO nice of them to allow that. Freedom is on the march my people. As I tell my friends on The Democratic Plantion, “We can leave Massa’s now cuz we’s free !!
Thank You Lashawn and your wonderful blog
Well I believe that after the election is determined, we will be divided and polarized like never before!
And I’m an Optimist!

That’s good! Ever read the book Its Ok To Leave The Plantation by Mason Weaver!
If you haven’t, you might really enjoy it!
That reminds me – I was in touch with Mason a few months ago. I forgot to ask him to send me a copy of the book.
Carin,
Hummmmm I believe, as history tells it, that as a group the Democrats were notorious for lynching black folks – not the Republicans.
If I’m wrong please correct me!
LaShawn,
I went to a speech Mason gave Powerful!!
I really enjoyed the book. I’d recommend it!
Awww man! I’m stuck in the filter again! Wha’d I say THIS time??
John C.James III
I have not read that but I will add to my list
Thanks

Have you read Unfounded Loyalty By Walter Perryman? He goes into DEEP detail about the Democratic Party and it’s terrorist arm (his words) The KuKluxKlan. Lynchings, intimidation, voiolence against Blacks with the tacit approval of the Dems. Y’know..all the things the evil Republicans are accused of.It’s a MUST READ for everyone of color who has EVER voted Democrat..
His “stay out the bushes” comment WAS funny. If you put him in a museum, maybe he’ll come up with a couple more!
Beau?? Is it really, really Beau??!! It can’t be. I seem to vaguely remember a Beau who used to come here, but he stood us up. ALLEGEDLY an ALLEGED hurricane hit his area of Florida. I just don’t think he loved us anymore. Sniff, sob.
Glad to see you back, and in fine form, Beau.
DEMOCRATS are the who denied us are voting rights in the south not the Republicans . An excellent read is Unfounded Loyalty By Walter Perryman. He lists the history of the party that in my lifetime, Blacks have so blindly followed.
SCSI,
You’re doing better than I am, my friend. I have 1 out of 5…lol. I’m white.
I stopped paying any serious attention to the “Reverend” Jackson long ago. It is difficult for me to understand how any thinking person would not speak up loudly and forcefully against almost anything this person has to say.
I figured him out when he refused to run for mayor of DC, a city that badly needed help at a time when its elected mayor was exposed as being a narcotics user and a philanderer and the living standards of the Federal District was below the standards of many third world nations.
This was a post that “Reverend” Jackson could easily have been elected to. There would have been virtually no votes against. And it was an opportunity to show what he really was capable of. But “Reverend” Jackson has chosen, in his career, only to run for offices which he has no hope of winning. Not those offices where he could actually do some good and bring hope to citizens. But he wears nice $2000 suits.
He is a businessman, not so plain and not so simple.
The racists Democrats that lynched and murdered blacks left the Democratic Party for the Republican Party after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Period.
Besides Strom Thurmond and a few others, who left the Democratic Party to become Republicans? And how was their behavior once they joined the Republican Party?
The Republican Party overwhelmingly supported the CRA. Why would racist Democrats leave their party en masse to join that one?
Justin,
You ever spend time in the south? Still plenty of proud democrat racists down there. And plenty of soft racists in the northern and western branches of the party, as well.
Which party this year is trying to scare blacks?
Which party is spouting off “Jews are in control, but if you vote for us we’ll stop it” rhetoric?
Starts with a ‘d’, ends in a ‘t’.
*********
Remember kids, when it comes to crooked politics, you can’t spell democrat without rat.
Justin, that is not accurate. Most democrat officials remained in the dem party. It was only a few that went into the Republican party. The Republican party dominance of the south was not really complete until the 90’s, well after the civil rights bills.
As a precentage, more Republicicans than dems voted for the 64 & 65 bills. The repub’s had to wait until the dems came along.
Nice try.
“…. Black folks are infants in the eyes of white liberals.”
Liberal Black folks are infants in their own eyes as well and they need big daddy gov’ment to take care of them.
Quite sad.
I’m still waiting for an apology or recant from Robert Bird… and Al Gore senior. WEll, maybe not Al Gore senior. That would be creepy, and Halloween is over.
But that beggars another question: how would you tell the undead Gore from the current Gore? The stiffness, the incoherent mutterings, the unwillingness to admit that life (biological or political) has ended, the earth tone wardrobe…
Justin, are you sure? Sems to me that several of dem birds didn’t fly the coop. They just changed their feathers and hoped you wouldn’t notice.
Jesse Jackson is an irrelevant, disgusting race pimp. I pray he and the rest of the libs get their comeuppance tomorrow.
“Hummmmm I believe, as history tells it, that as a group the Democrats were notorious for lynching black folks – not the Republicans. ”
Snort, John … now you know that is just one of those Lies spread by the evil white man. And DON’T read that Wayne Perryman book … Don’t … Jesse says NO!!! How would he support himself and his family(s) if he was put out of business? And, HEY, I got a call from Jesse today. I live in Detroit, and he wanted to call and remind me of what happened in Florida ..@@. To bad I’m a white conservative female … I don’t think I was his target audience.
UGH. There are no words to describe how I loath this man. God forgive me.
Speaking of Jesse calling, there was a bruhaha here in Motown today on the local FOX & ABC news. Seems that someone was going around calling folks and telling them that polling places had been moved and what not.
One of the election officials got on the tube to irrately decry the voter intimidation and to remind people that if there were to be any changes, the citizens would be informed by mail, not by phone.
I thought to myself, that it has got to be the dems’ sabotage/terrorist arm doing it so they could blame the Reps. That’s what I bet my office.
Well, on the next news cycle, some of the calls were traced back, and found to have originated w/ the sKerry campaign. Their lame excuse was that they were misunderstood. They claimed that they were calling people to remind them to vote in the right place, NOT that the polling places had been moved.
More at 10/11pm bwahahaha
Observing is one thing, making a challenge, to me, is another. It shouldn’t be the job of volunteers it should be the job of the poll judges only.
Will jessie jackson and company cry foul if they play DIXIE or display the confederate flag? wooaa boy lets not get carried away with it all
HEY! That Beau guy DOES sound like me!
Someone asked if I was related to you!
Anyone vote for the dancing candidates at miniclip? Bush was pimp walkin’ (The Money Walk, they called it). Pretty funny stuff!
Remember to vote early and vote often!

…lone, conservative, Christian Black female physician in the San Francisco Bay area…
After the 2000 Florida close election, I believe states were ‘given’ about 3 billion dollars to ‘fix’ the problems in the voting system ‘exposed’ in Florida.
It has been 3 years since the 3 billion was allocated. Why are we having what seems to be even more problems. Voter registration so lose anyone can fake a non-existent, felon, or dead person onto the registration list.
No ID required at the voting stations to receive a ballot.
VERY expensive computer voting systems that provide no paper verification, 20 thousand absentee voter forms ‘lost’ in the mail….the list goes on.
How many believe another 3 billion would be enough for the government to solve the problem. I say the whole process needs to be contracted out to private enterprise, preferably non-unionized, with governmnent union workers relegated to a verifing process only, where they can’t do any more damage.
LaShawn (and all the rest who said it),
You hit the nail on the head, the old myth is that all of these racist Dixiecrats who were upset over Civil Rights and blacks left the party and went over to the Republicans. Well, how short is the memory of blacks. I don’t hear Julian Bond or Kwaise Mfume or any of the ‘Old Guard’ mentioning William Fulbright, Robert Byrd and yes, Al Gore, Sr. in this crowd. These men were staunch segregationists!
If the truth be known, blacks are known for their willingness to follow the masses on EMOTION alone. I once outlined to a young lady that Bush was planning to give a tax break to everyone who paid taxes in the form of $300 or $600 and she just flatly couldn’t agree with me. Her mind was brainwashed! Only time and alot of personal reflection will change this psychosis.
Dominic, I can’t tell you how many times I’m subjected to the “Racist Democrats became the Republican party” line. Absolutely NOT TRUE. These folks are just repeating what they’ve heard, the same lies I grew up hearing. Let’s forget about actual numbers and think logicially for a moment. Republicans were the party trying to pass civil rights legislation in various forms for decades.
Why, please tell me, would Dixiecrats leave the Democrats en masse and become Republicans? The south became solid Republican gradually, not overnight and certainly not as a result of the Civil Rights movement. I grew up in the south and I can attest to the generally positive sentiment about Jimmy Carter among whites at the time.
the old myth is that all of these racist Dixiecrats who were upset over Civil Rights and blacks left the party and went over to the Republicans.
No one said all.
I can’t tell you how many times I’m subjected to the “Racist Democrats became the Republican party” line. Absolutely NOT TRUE.
That’s interesting because Jesse Helms was able to get elected to congress because he was outspoken about his opposition to civil rights. He became “famous” as a television commentator. There were people who did indeed switch parties.
And no one has ever said the south went Republican over night. But when Republicans, white and Black, have stated that the GOP played racial politics with The Southern Strategy, how in the world are Blacks believing a lie?
Oh, I get it! White Republicans are guilty white liberals while the Black Republicans are following Jesse Jackson!
Jesse Jackson is a race baiting poverty pimp for a reason. He sells imagined pain. He cries victimhood and then presents himself and his rhetoric as a solution. He’s a charlatan of the lowest order. And it’s EXACTLY what we can expect from the likes of him and Al Sharpton (two peas in the same pod if you ask me).
I’ve upset DarkStar.
Here’s something creepy – Jesse Jackson as Secretary of State? Yikes!
Dominic: I’ve had people say to me ‘$300 to $600 dollars in tax relief ain’t nothing’ then I say to them, ‘what if you got paid tomorrow and your check was $300 to $600 dollars short? Would that mean something to you? C’mon no!’
They cannot lie to me or themselves on that reality because it puts it into what’s real in their lives – puts it in a real-time frame.
Your right there likwidshoe i mean this guy is the worse kind of race baiter around and he just gose and black mails companies into donating to him this guy IS NO REVERAND he is a crinimal
Jesse Jackson is a trouble-making, prejudice crumb and it’s his prejudism that keeps the fire burning between the races. We Americans have more than dispersed our employment, equal rights and the United States between not only black and white but many other races as well. We owe nothing to no-one and the crap needs to stop or a civil war needs to start. Jesse Jackson gives the hard working blacks a bad name and hard work is something he knows nothing about; hence, he’s paved his way through life by discrimination. He is a perfect example of what we whites refer to as a nigger. Martin Luther King Jr. Opened the door to freedom and the black woman before him that refused to give up her seat on the bus(I don’t recall her name or the State) but it was down south. They earned the respect and support of the white race because they stood up and held their head high and proud and with wisdom from the heart in which came to them from the power of God. They did not use violence. Violence from any race toward a white man in his land merely dubb themselves what they really are, and that just won’t fly. I believe the only way to stop the racism is to round up crumbs like Jesse and ship their butts back to their land of origin so they can see what freedom is all about. Jamie Smythe
Why, thank you, Kiki………my homegirl away from home. And since I don’t like to see my girls sobbin over me too much, in the future I must make sure to stop by to say a quick “Hel-lo” even if can’t stay for long. Ciao, sister!!

Yes, Lashawn (my favorite southern belle in D.C.), all’s well; quite frankly, I can’t complain. I pray the same applies to you.
Dear Purple MD,
I am very pleased to meetcha, not to mention, I’m intrigued because “lone, conservative, Christian Black female physician in the San Francisco Bay area” works for me. Oh yeah. You’re either my long lost twin sister or my soulmate (Did I just say soulmate? Geez!!….Slow down, son!! She might be be married, Dude.)
Anyway, PMD, I look forward to seein you around on the Corner, and if ya EVER move that practice to S. Florida…….holla at ya boy!!
You take care of yourself around all those libs in the Bay Area.
And God Bless you & the stethoscope. I’m gone.
Sincerely,

Jesse Jackson may have had a point at some time but has since proven himself to be just as ethically challenged as every other politican. Maybe he is just following the path Clinton blazed in having affairs and “love children”.
Obviously I don’t know enough about the Baptist faith since this man is still a reverend even though he had an extra-martial affair and a child from it.
“This is no time for evasions, denials or alibis,” Jackson’s statement said. “No doubt, many close friends and supporters will be disappointed in me. I ask for their forgiveness, understanding and prayers.”
Yep.. We are all suckers for someone asking for forgiveness.. This man has proven himself he is not a moral compass and yet he is constantly touted as the “voice of the blacks”. I didn’t realize that blacks didn’t have a voice. Maybe I am being naive here but.. when you consider that blacks/hispanics can vote..
Facts from :
http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/00000.html
Hispanic or Latino origin, percent, 2000 (b) 12.5%
Black or African American persons, percent, 2000 (a) 12.3%
How can Blacks or Hispanics NOT have a voice? Making the assumption that they vote as a block.. That is a huge percentage. Combined its 1/4 of the population of this country.
Maybe if I get back on point here..
I don’t see the problem actually requesting that people produce ID to vote. If you don’t drive then get an ID card. It seems a small price to pay for helping to ensure fair elections and that everyones vote counts.
Both sides have vigorous supporters who stretch the limits and even break them in trying to get their candidate elected.. that should mean all sides would want a method to show whos voting and that mickey mouse didn’t just vote for kerry.
Bah spam netted again
