2:43 p.m. — I’m on my way to the polls. I will try to update this post as often as I can. In the meantime, keep everyone up to date with the latest information on the returns.

May they be happy returns! :)

3:32 p.m. — Well, that was spectacularly uneventful. No line. I was in and out in five minutes. At my polling place this morning, the line was wrapped around the building. This afternoon, the closer I got to the building, the fewer people I saw! I guess I’ll go run a few errands while it’s still daylight. By the way, I voted for George Bush. See you in a bit…

3:58 p.m. — Not gone yet. I’m trying to confirm a rumor that Kerry “won” Florida. Mystery Pollster has the run down on exit polls. Blackfive’s been disenfranshised.

4:47 p.m. — Here’s some good news (predictions) from John Fund of the Wall Street Journal:

Popular vote: Bush 50.0%, Kerry 48.5%, Nader 1.0%, others 0.5%.

Electoral vote: Bush 296, Kerry 242.

Battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin for Bush; Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania for Kerry.

The polls are pretty consistent. Mr. Bush is at 48% or above in all of them that push leaners.

A commenter asks: “Why don’t you & more Christians support the Constitution Party (which has a Christian Platform) instead of the Republican Party?”

Good question. I’ve flirted with the idea.

5:04 p.m. — The news is a little slow right now (and so are Internet connections), but bloggers seem to be affecting Wall Street.

5:52 p.m. — I think I started live-blogging too early. Things are sloooow. Joe Carter asks, “What if John Kerry wins?”

There’s nothing sadder than a man way past his prime.

6:28 p.m. — Read the latest from Drudge. I’m doing a little blogging over at Pop and Politics. Power Line has the latest on exit poll rumors. Michelle Malkin is accessible for now.

7:00 p.m. — I really hate this waiting. Mystery Pollster is answering reader questions about exit polls.

7:19 p.m. — Here’s another what-would-you-do-if-your-guy-lost post.

7:24 p.m. — Is the game underway? Check out this election map. It’s updating live, I presume.

7:36 p.m. — There’s nothing nefarious going with the inaccessible web sites. Hosting Matters is trying to cope with the unusually heavy traffic to its sites. Live-blogging at Evangelical Outpost.

7:50 p.m. — Check out the too-close-to-call Ohio numbers. And Florida.

Lucianne.com
has opened an “Insanity Prevention Thread.”

8:01 p.m. — Did you guys see Zogby? I don’t know whether to laugh hysterically or cry.

Power Line has the latest on Florida: “UPDATE: The Florida Secretary of State reports Bush’s lead at 56.6 to 42.5, with 12% of the vote cast.”

8:35 p.m. — Georgia, Kentucky and Ohio reject homosexual “marriage.”

8:49 p.m. — Live-blogging going on at National Review Online and Outside the Beltway.

9:13 p.m. — Keep your eyes on the map.

9:25 p.m. — Live-blogging at Backcountry Conservative.

9:38 p.m. — Nice traffic. A blogger friend linked me from MSNBC’s blog.

9:58 p.m. — Here’s an optimistic post on National Review Online’s blog.

10:40 p.m. — I’m on hold on the Michael Graham show!

10:59 p.m. — Still on hold. Michael King is live-blogging.

Barack Obama is America’s fifth black senator. Read about the other four.

11:10 p.m. — Drat! I was cut off before I could give out my blog address!!! I was on the Michael Graham radio show talking about positive early exit polling for Kerry. Oh well. Will Republicans pick up seats in the Senate? Too much to hope for.

11:22 p.m. — Florida: Walking on Sunshine?

11:54 p.m. — Florida goes to Bush! I’ll see how much longer I can stay awake. It’s two hours past my bedtime!

12:20 a.m. — ABC just called Colorado for Bush. These radio newscasters sound downright morose, but they’re trying to hide it.

12:39 a.m. — I must bid you all good night. I’ll listen to the coverage on my Walkman as I fall asleep, but this computer and I must part company. Thank you for participating in the live-blogging and commenting, and hopefully I’ll update this blog with exciting news in the morning!

One more before I go:

Ohio race for President
9361 of 11477 precincts - 82 percent

George W. Bush (i) Rep 2,308,194 - 51 percent
John F. Kerry Dem 2,180,849 - 48 percent
Michael Badnarik NP 12,158 - 0 percent
Michael Peroutka NP 10,602 - 0 percent

12:45 a.m. — Every time I try to leave…so Bush just won Ohio? Bush just won Ohio. Now is it over? If your comment gets stuck in the filter, you may rephrase and resubmit, or wait until I approve in the morning. Sleep well.

  11. Another Texan for Bush! Well there are 3 of us here!
Is there a place to see early returns? MJ was asking if I had heard anything yet but I can’t find any. Other than a story on New Hampshire where Bush leads 35 to 21 in a couple of tiny hamlets…

  15. New York for Bush!

Actually, no. Even in this “too close to call” race, New York has NEVER been gray or purple (depending on what map you look at), just blue.

However, good news. New Jersey, where my parents live, home of Bruce “I love Kerry” Springsteen IS too close to call. Which mean my parents’ votes actually count for something.

  16. Yep, Kentucky is pretty sure to go Bush, and their polls are from 6:00AM to 6:0PM, a little earlier than some others. On a side note, I just read on a page linked from Drudge that Guam voted Bush over Kerry by a nearly 2-1 margin.

    Comment by WayneB — 11.02.04 @ 4:16 pm

  17. Does Guam count? Don’t see it on my map. Where’s the substance!

  19. I’m in middle Tennessee — mostly white rural population. I stood in front of a young girl (19?) who said this was her first election and she still didn’t know whom she was going to vote for. That astounds me that somebody could be standing there after all that’s happened and not have their mind made up….I was really paranoid about looking like I was influencing her vote, (plus I feel an awesome peace about the fact that everybody has a right to their own choice and that God is in control) so I just said, “Just pray before you go in there and God will lead your finger to the right button!” She looked at me kind of funny, and I didn’t say any more but I did pray for her myself while I waited. After I voted (for Bush), I left nervous that somehow I might have pushed the wrong button. ha.!

Myself, my husband, our daughter and son in law all voted for Bush so far. Even better, my life long yellow dog democrat mother voted for Bush today. Unbelieveable!!!

    Comment by Rod — 11.02.04 @ 4:50 pm

  27. Rod,
Can’t speak for anyone else here, but… I want my vote to count.
As for the aspects of the Republican party I don’t like, they are placed in two categories:
    1) Things I can deal with, since no party will fit me and enough millions of other Americans to make a difference.
    2) Things I think can be changed if enough ACTIVE party members work towards the change.

    Comment by SCSIwuzzy — 11.02.04 @ 4:56 pm

  31. Thanks for the post Lashawn. And SCSIwuzzy, I prayed about whom to vote for and I felt led by the Lord to vote for the Constitution Party, so if that makes my vote a waste, I can live with it.

  32. Not to be a party pooper, but has anyone thought about a Kerry win, and the positive things that will come about because of his win?

  34. Yes. If Kerry wins, I am positive that we will have more terrorist activity in the United States. I am positive that we will pull our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. I am postive that we will place world opinion ahead of our safety and security. And I am positive you are either self-delusional…

  39. NJ update:
Here I was, set to watch for vote fraud/irregularities in my little borough, and lo and behold, the voting booths were fixed. Sort of.
In 2000, the Republican lever didn’t work (Dem did)
In 2002, The lever was missing. Dem lever was present and working. A fuss was made.
2004. A bar was put in place, so that none of the party levers would work, so you had to pick each item one by one.
So I ended up heading over to Camden to help out over there… where, according to some rival activists, I am officially the white devil. 8)

  40. Yikes Name calling! Not good, not good at all.

    Comment by John C James III — 11.02.04 @ 5:22 pm

  41. Postives…
    Yes for those who consider:
    1. More liberal judges a positive
    2. More “affirmative action” (not to be confused with “quotas” (cough)… positive
    3. More laws that distinguish crimes based on race or sex or some other factor (i.e. more hate crimes laws)
    4. More respect among countries who not only steal money from programs that are supposed to help citizens of a country while under sanctions (i.e. France, Germany), and do nothing as thousands are killed and being blocked from getting aid…

Yes, I guess you could call those positive if you are more worried about what someone can do for you as opposed to what are you doing for yourself.

    I’m feeling you…NOT

Conservatives accept that if Kerry wins - we can live with it.

Liberals are screaming about the “fascist regime” the U.S. will be under if Bush is re-elected, and a lot of them say they’ll move to another country if he is.

    It really is funny.

  61. Donna,
While plenty of younger folks ony have cellular phones, there are a few factors that hurt the dem arguement (and it is a dem arg, I heard McAuliffe use it last night):
    1) many cell phones, if not most, don’t share the exchange or even the area code of the owners’ residence. I have two cell numbers, one comes up as Vineland (40 minutes south of the home) and the other is in Philly, a whole other state!
    2) the conventional wisdom that young = liberal is shifting. I know more republicans in their early 20’s than I did when I was in my early 20s. Granted, I also walk through Philly in my Bush 43 interstate hat, openly. This has led alot of college aged folks to ask where to vote, and where to get the conservative argument. They only hear one side on campus, and they aren’t willing to get branded as a conservative (and in Philly at the local univs. I cannot blame that feeling)

    Comment by SCSIwuzzy — 11.02.04 @ 6:14 pm

The polls are trying to tie voters to places, and cell #s don’t do that very well.
And throw in the fact that people don’t like being charged for getting called by a pollster! Really, who would stay on and answer their questions? :)

Cell phone only people are 5% of the population. We are and also many of our friends. However, since most of our friends are either Christians or military or both, our sample of cell phone only voters skews 100% Bush! I would expect this group to trend slightly Kerry.

However, call screeners (those with caller ID who don’t answer unknown numbers) are a much larger group, I think 30% of those called in the polls. This group is older and more likely to tend Bush.

At any rate, we’ll know soon. Keep praying.

  192. Brock quote:

“you have the right to have your relationship recognized by the federal government for a huge number of benefits (over 1000 of them)”

Let’s not forget the responsibilities a reality some Gay couples in California where not ready to take on.

When the State of California decided to write a more muscular civil union law to offer the responsibilities and benefits of marriage to same sex partners, Gay Marriage Activists hailed this law as a giant step towards marriage equality. A funny thing happened on the way to equality, many same sex couples started opting to get out of this quasi-marriage arraigment. Last summer the State of California send gay couples registered under the old weaker civil union law letters informing them that they had until Jan 1 to opt out before the new law with the added rights and responsibilities came into effect. The problem it seems that as many newly het marriage couples find out married couples are punished by Federal tax code specifically Federal Income taxes.

Another un intended consequence of the new law in CA was a loss of benefits of the state run health care insurance as well as disability payments when the combined income of both partners was added to the equation. Rather than losing government benefits many couples decided to get out of their current civil arraignment. The reality of marriage took some gay couples by surprise. Marriage it is not only about the benefits but also the added responsibilities, apparently some folks in California were not prepared to deal with. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

  195. Brock,

    Here’s the definition of abomination:

    abom•i•na•tion \e-’ba-me-”na-shen\ noun (14c)
    1 : something abominable
2 : extreme disgust and hatred : loathing
(C)1997, 1996 Zane Publishing, Inc. All rights reserved

Sin is something that is contrary to the nature of God. He created man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. He always intended for it to be man and woman together, so homosexuality is a SIN, as it is contrary to the nature of God. And, I will let you read the above definition of abomination, and you can infer from that how God feels about homosexuality. Please don’t try to justify your sin with God’s Word. It won’t work. You will be held accountable for your sin, just as I will. However, I have accepted the Lord as my personal Savior, therefore, I am forgiven, and I will go to be with my Lord when I die.
