Florida Goes To Bush! Florida Goes To Bush!

in Bush Good

2:43 p.m. — I’m on my way to the polls. I will try to update this post as often as I can. In the meantime, keep everyone up to date with the latest information on the returns.

May they be happy returns! :)

3:32 p.m. — Well, that was spectacularly uneventful. No line. I was in and out in five minutes. At my polling place this morning, the line was wrapped around the building. This afternoon, the closer I got to the building, the fewer people I saw! I guess I’ll go run a few errands while it’s still daylight. By the way, I voted for George Bush. See you in a bit…

3:58 p.m. — Not gone yet. I’m trying to confirm a rumor that Kerry “won” Florida. Mystery Pollster has the run down on exit polls. Blackfive’s been disenfranshised.

4:47 p.m. — Here’s some good news (predictions) from John Fund of the Wall Street Journal:

Popular vote: Bush 50.0%, Kerry 48.5%, Nader 1.0%, others 0.5%.

Electoral vote: Bush 296, Kerry 242.

Battleground states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin for Bush; Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania for Kerry.

The polls are pretty consistent. Mr. Bush is at 48% or above in all of them that push leaners.

A commenter asks: “Why don’t you & more Christians support the Constitution Party (which has a Christian Platform) instead of the Republican Party?”

Good question. I’ve flirted with the idea.

5:04 p.m. — The news is a little slow right now (and so are Internet connections), but bloggers seem to be affecting Wall Street.

5:52 p.m. — I think I started live-blogging too early. Things are sloooow. Joe Carter asks, “What if John Kerry wins?”

There’s nothing sadder than a man way past his prime.

6:28 p.m. — Read the latest from Drudge. I’m doing a little blogging over at Pop and Politics. Power Line has the latest on exit poll rumors. Michelle Malkin is accessible for now.

7:00 p.m. — I really hate this waiting. Mystery Pollster is answering reader questions about exit polls.

7:19 p.m. — Here’s another what-would-you-do-if-your-guy-lost post.

7:24 p.m. — Is the game underway? Check out this election map. It’s updating live, I presume.

7:36 p.m. — There’s nothing nefarious going with the inaccessible web sites. Hosting Matters is trying to cope with the unusually heavy traffic to its sites. Live-blogging at Evangelical Outpost.

7:50 p.m. — Check out the too-close-to-call Ohio numbers. And Florida.

Lucianne.com
has opened an “Insanity Prevention Thread.”

8:01 p.m. — Did you guys see Zogby? I don’t know whether to laugh hysterically or cry.

Power Line has the latest on Florida: “UPDATE: The Florida Secretary of State reports Bush’s lead at 56.6 to 42.5, with 12% of the vote cast.”

8:35 p.m. — Georgia, Kentucky and Ohio reject homosexual “marriage.”

8:49 p.m. — Live-blogging going on at National Review Online and Outside the Beltway.

9:13 p.m. — Keep your eyes on the map.

9:25 p.m. — Live-blogging at Backcountry Conservative.

9:38 p.m. — Nice traffic. A blogger friend linked me from MSNBC’s blog.

9:58 p.m. — Here’s an optimistic post on National Review Online’s blog.

10:40 p.m. — I’m on hold on the Michael Graham show!

10:59 p.m. — Still on hold. Michael King is live-blogging.

Barack Obama is America’s fifth black senator. Read about the other four.

11:10 p.m. — Drat! I was cut off before I could give out my blog address!!! I was on the Michael Graham radio show talking about positive early exit polling for Kerry. Oh well. Will Republicans pick up seats in the Senate? Too much to hope for.

11:22 p.m. — Florida: Walking on Sunshine?

11:54 p.m. — Florida goes to Bush! I’ll see how much longer I can stay awake. It’s two hours past my bedtime!

12:20 a.m. — ABC just called Colorado for Bush. These radio newscasters sound downright morose, but they’re trying to hide it.

12:39 a.m. — I must bid you all good night. I’ll listen to the coverage on my Walkman as I fall asleep, but this computer and I must part company. Thank you for participating in the live-blogging and commenting, and hopefully I’ll update this blog with exciting news in the morning!

One more before I go:

Ohio race for President
9361 of 11477 precincts – 82 percent

George W. Bush (i) Rep 2,308,194 – 51 percent
John F. Kerry Dem 2,180,849 – 48 percent
Michael Badnarik NP 12,158 – 0 percent
Michael Peroutka NP 10,602 – 0 percent

12:45 a.m. — Every time I try to leave…so Bush just won Ohio? Bush just won Ohio. Now is it over? If your comment gets stuck in the filter, you may rephrase and resubmit, or wait until I approve in the morning. Sleep well.

Happy returns. Yes. I’ll take that! Go Bush.

caltechgirl 11.02.04 at 3:36 pm

Good luck. Don’t get intimidated :)
Go Bush!!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 3:45 pm

I guess Maryland and DC aren’t battleground states, so we’re kinda hohum!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 3:46 pm

Is this live?

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 3:47 pm

It is live!

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 3:52 pm

Texan for Bush! “4 more years”

sharon 11.02.04 at 3:53 pm

GEORGIANS FOR BUSH!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 3:56 pm

So are you using your handheld to input?

Renee 11.02.04 at 3:56 pm

VIRGINIANS for Bush!!!

Transplant from PA for BUSH!!!

4 MORE YEARS!!!!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 3:57 pm

Maryland for Bush – ok ok you know there are some in Maryland for Bush!

mjslady 11.02.04 at 3:58 pm

Another Texan for Bush! Well there are 3 of us here!
Is there a place to see early returns? MJ was asking if I had heard anything yet but I can’t find any. Other than a story on New Hampshire where Bush leads 35 to 21 in a couple of tiny hamlets…

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 3:59 pm

I’m on my home computer, James. There was no line at my polling place. I was prepared to stand for hours; I was in and out in five minutes. By the way, I voted for George Bush.

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 4:02 pm

AP gives out the closing times for each poll location, I can’t wait. The first one closes in Kentucky, I’ve been searching the web, very worked up about the first return. Hope America can accept the winner, no shenigans.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 4:05 pm

You voted for Bush? I never would have guessed ;)

I voted for Prez Dub-ya too! May Mr Kerry and Mrs Heinz enjoy a very quiet NON Presidential life!

:) Ooops where are my shades 8)

The Chainik Hocker 11.02.04 at 4:16 pm

New York for Bush!

Actually, no. Even in this “too close to call” race, New York has NEVER been gray or purple (depending on what map you look at), just blue.

However, good news. New Jersey, where my parents live, home of Bruce “I love Kerry” Springsteen IS too close to call. Which mean my parents’ votes actually count for something.

WayneB 11.02.04 at 4:16 pm

Yep, Kentucky is pretty sure to go Bush, and their polls are from 6:00AM to 6:0PM, a little earlier than some others. On a side note, I just read on a page linked from Drudge that Guam voted Bush over Kerry by a nearly 2-1 margin.

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 4:18 pm

Does Guam count? Don’t see it on my map. Where’s the substance!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 4:21 pm

Well Maryland voted in a Republican Governor – Could it be possible that Maryland will go to Bush? It could happen! [can't it?]

Jenna 11.02.04 at 4:25 pm

I’m in middle Tennessee — mostly white rural population. I stood in front of a young girl (19?) who said this was her first election and she still didn’t know whom she was going to vote for. That astounds me that somebody could be standing there after all that’s happened and not have their mind made up….I was really paranoid about looking like I was influencing her vote, (plus I feel an awesome peace about the fact that everybody has a right to their own choice and that God is in control) so I just said, “Just pray before you go in there and God will lead your finger to the right button!” She looked at me kind of funny, and I didn’t say any more but I did pray for her myself while I waited. After I voted (for Bush), I left nervous that somehow I might have pushed the wrong button. ha.!

Memorable Quotes from

Pamela 11.02.04 at 4:31 pm

Alabama for Bush!!!

Myself, my husband, our daughter and son in law all voted for Bush so far. Even better, my life long yellow dog democrat mother voted for Bush today. Unbelieveable!!!

But, I’m hearing news that’s making me very nervous. Please pray for the President, the election and all of the voters who haven’t yet.

Ernest S. 11.02.04 at 4:31 pm

another Texan for Bush right here :)

Justin 11.02.04 at 4:43 pm

Bush is as toast as this bagel I’m about to eat. Bye George!! LOL!

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 4:48 pm

Justin, that bagel you’re eating is from Texas, stop drinking the blue kool-aid, it’s all about the legacy.

conservblack 11.02.04 at 4:49 pm

good job lashawn, every vote counts..bush must win

Rod 11.02.04 at 4:50 pm

Why don’t you & more Christians support the Constitution Party (which has a Christian Platform)instead of the Republican Party?

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 4:56 pm

Rod,
Can’t speak for anyone else here, but… I want my vote to count.
As for the aspects of the Republican party I don’t like, they are placed in two categories:
1) Things I can deal with, since no party will fit me and enough millions of other Americans to make a difference.
2) Things I think can be changed if enough ACTIVE party members work towards the change.

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 4:57 pm

Rod, see my latest update. However, if more Christians begin to support the Constitution Party…

cooper 11.02.04 at 5:02 pm

Take a look at what is happening over at Blackfive.net. He’s definitely been disenfranchised!

Misty 11.02.04 at 5:10 pm

Iowan for Bush here! (well, at least four if you count my husband and his parents)

The state really is mixed, depending on location mostly.

Rod 11.02.04 at 5:11 pm

Thanks for the post Lashawn. And SCSIwuzzy, I prayed about whom to vote for and I felt led by the Lord to vote for the Constitution Party, so if that makes my vote a waste, I can live with it.

Eric 11.02.04 at 5:12 pm

Not to be a party pooper, but has anyone thought about a Kerry win, and the positive things that will come about because of his win?

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 5:14 pm

I’m listening, Eric. Such as? And I’m being serious, too, not sarcastic.

The Chainik Hocker 11.02.04 at 5:16 pm

Yes. If Kerry wins, I am positive that we will have more terrorist activity in the United States. I am positive that we will pull our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. I am postive that we will place world opinion ahead of our safety and security. And I am positive you are either self-delusional…

Eric 11.02.04 at 5:18 pm

Hitlery Cretin will find it much harder to get back into the white house.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 5:18 pm

Positives that will come with a KErry win?? Hold up! LOL!! You know Kerry is just a place holder! I mean if he wins do you think the Dems are going to let him make any decisions? LOL!!

He’s a place holder!

Solo 11.02.04 at 5:19 pm

I’ll support whoever wins the presidency. I voted Green for the big one so… :)

Took me 1+ hours to get to the polling booth. But no funny stuff I’m glad to say.

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 5:20 pm

Come on everyone, regardless of the winner, let’s be a United States. The Dems can be ugly about it, but not the Republican who belong to the Lord. But again “Don’t Mess With anyone from Texas” GW can handle this thang!

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 5:20 pm

NJ update:
Here I was, set to watch for vote fraud/irregularities in my little borough, and lo and behold, the voting booths were fixed. Sort of.
In 2000, the Republican lever didn’t work (Dem did)
In 2002, The lever was missing. Dem lever was present and working. A fuss was made.
2004. A bar was put in place, so that none of the party levers would work, so you had to pick each item one by one.
So I ended up heading over to Camden to help out over there… where, according to some rival activists, I am officially the white devil. 8)

John C James III 11.02.04 at 5:22 pm

Yikes Name calling! Not good, not good at all.

Renee 11.02.04 at 5:24 pm

Postives…
Yes for those who consider:
1. More liberal judges a positive
2. More “affirmative action” (not to be confused with “quotas” (cough)… positive
3. More laws that distinguish crimes based on race or sex or some other factor (i.e. more hate crimes laws)
4. More respect among countries who not only steal money from programs that are supposed to help citizens of a country while under sanctions (i.e. France, Germany), and do nothing as thousands are killed and being blocked from getting aid…

Yes, I guess you could call those positive if you are more worried about what someone can do for you as opposed to what are you doing for yourself.

I’m feeling you…NOT

John C James III 11.02.04 at 5:24 pm

SCSI: See what being a Philly fan gets you :) LOL!!!

Eric 11.02.04 at 5:26 pm

SCSIwuzzy, at least you’re official and I betcha that can’t be said for a whole alot of folks voting in Camden. Just so you know, central florida is holdin it down for W.

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 5:38 pm

Right on, Renee.

Ernest S. 11.02.04 at 5:40 pm

this is what I find really interesting.

Conservatives accept that if Kerry wins – we can live with it.

Liberals are screaming about the “fascist regime” the U.S. will be under if Bush is re-elected, and a lot of them say they’ll move to another country if he is.

It really is funny.

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 5:43 pm

Alec Baldwin said he’d leave 4 years ago if Bush got elected. I guess he’s got a lot of stuff to pack!

Ernest S. 11.02.04 at 5:45 pm

Robert Redford stated that he’s considering moving to Ireland, where he….get this….”owns several homes.”

snort!

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 5:45 pm

JcJ3: Thffffpppppp. I work in Filthy, live in Joisey. I am just shocked that the polls on Monday had NJ at a near swing state status (if it didn’t have such a democrat track record, it would be considered in play).
Eric: Yep. But I can say a few people trying to vote illegaly in Camden, didn’t :)

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 5:48 pm

Didn’t George Soros say he’d move into a monastary if Bush won again?

Donna Boucher 11.02.04 at 6:00 pm

All the folks on the telly are saying the huge turnout is terrible for President Bush. This is upsetting me.
Also do you think it is true that the young ones all have cell phones and thus the poll numbers are way off?

Reassure me please,
Donna

DarkStar 11.02.04 at 6:00 pm

I wrote in Colin Powell.

Steel Turman 11.02.04 at 6:04 pm

LaShawn, you are one of a few blogs I can get. I hear
hosting matters has ben disabled by a DoS attack. Been
that way all day. You hear anything?

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:05 pm

Donna,

If Kerry get a win – life will go on. We are Americans. We have come through many things and ‘This too shall pass’.

Phil Dillon 11.02.04 at 6:06 pm

Did someone say that Redford was going to go to Ireland if Dubya’ won?

The Irish won’t have a bit of that. My relatives in County Meath will guard the Emerald Isle to the last man before something like that happens.

By the way – Kansas for Bush!

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:06 pm

Don’t beleive the hype till the numbers are all in!

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 6:07 pm

Steel – Things have been slow. I can’t get Instapundit, Michelle Malkin, Power Line and a few others. Things are definitely hot.

Donna – Heavy turnout usually favors Democrats, but the end is not yet. Are you a Christian? Even if you aren’t read this post: http://lashawnbarber.com/archives/2004/10/29/endorsements/

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:07 pm

What do you think Mr. Powell will do this go round?

Eric 11.02.04 at 6:07 pm

Hey Donna, just remember who the media wants to win and it’ll be easier to disregard most of what they say.

Steel Turman 11.02.04 at 6:10 pm

If you have a contact number for Malkin you might inquire.
There’s a bunch down. LGF and TL too. Wierd. Equal opportunity attack I guess. Or as they call that on my
planet … war.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:12 pm

Jesse, Jesse, Jesse! Give ME a Break!

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 6:14 pm

Donna,
While plenty of younger folks ony have cellular phones, there are a few factors that hurt the dem arguement (and it is a dem arg, I heard McAuliffe use it last night):
1) many cell phones, if not most, don’t share the exchange or even the area code of the owners’ residence. I have two cell numbers, one comes up as Vineland (40 minutes south of the home) and the other is in Philly, a whole other state!
2) the conventional wisdom that young = liberal is shifting. I know more republicans in their early 20’s than I did when I was in my early 20s. Granted, I also walk through Philly in my Bush 43 interstate hat, openly. This has led alot of college aged folks to ask where to vote, and where to get the conservative argument. They only hear one side on campus, and they aren’t willing to get branded as a conservative (and in Philly at the local univs. I cannot blame that feeling)

Donna Boucher 11.02.04 at 6:15 pm

Thank you all for the encouraging words :o )
Yes, I am a Christian and I am off to read the article you linked, La Shawn.

For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His godly ones.
Psalm 37:28

Surrounded in Madison, Wisconsin,
Donna

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 6:16 pm

Oh, the geography thing in my post:
The polls are trying to tie voters to places, and cell #s don’t do that very well.
And throw in the fact that people don’t like being charged for getting called by a pollster! Really, who would stay on and answer their questions? :)

Steel Turman 11.02.04 at 6:19 pm

It is against the law to call cells for this purpose.
Precisely because it costs the receiver.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:19 pm

Its funny how all the new papers web pages are set up with no data in them. I guess at 7:00pm sharp the data will start filtering in.

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 6:33 pm

NY Post Online has some election numbers.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 6:33 pm

Does anyone know if Therressa Heinz-Kerry is eligible to vote? I watched a short segment on tv earlier today that mentioned her husband voted, while she stood by his side. So, can she vote? Is she a US citizen. Just curious?

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:35 pm

Jeopardy Jingle playing in background

Jerry McClellan 11.02.04 at 6:44 pm

According to Townhall.com Kerry has California in the bag and Barbera Boxer is very likely to win. Both Dems ofcourse.

The only competitive race is for the 20th District’s House seat, from which Rep. Cal Dooley (D) is retiring.
Keep prayin’.

CA is screwed up. I wouldn’t be surprised if prop 71 passes as well. Shameful!

Jerry McClellan 11.02.04 at 6:48 pm

A business friend revealed to me that he is not a U.S. citizen as of yet and therefore cannot/will not vote. He has two more years to go before he is pronounced an official citizen.

I told him it is worth the wait. Unfortunately, he is routing for Kerry!

I tried to talk some sense into him but its going to take some time, thank God I have two years.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 6:50 pm

ggalco: Quote: Asked about things that shaped her: “I became an American in Pittsburgh. People in Pittsburgh are very honest, hardworking people. They treat you openly.”

Not sure she was saying she took oath or the just ‘became’ american in a touchy feely kind of way.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 6:57 pm

Thanks for the reply JCJ III! I have to admit that the Lord has a lot of work to do on me as it pertains to her. Maybe I just have a twisted picture of what our first lady represents. Hopefully we won’t have to be faced with that situation. Oh BTW, Colorado is Bush country!

Dominic 11.02.04 at 6:57 pm

North Carolinians for Bush

A friend of mine is 25 years old and fits the sterotypical black male urban youth and he voted for Bush. Bush is on a move.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 7:01 pm

OK, I’ve got another question. (I hope ya’ll don’t get upset.) I’m a newbie at this political thang. Here’s my question: Why does D.C. have electoral votes? It would seem that Puerto Rico would have EV more so than D.C. Or Guam.

John C James III 11.02.04 at 7:02 pm

Ok whats going on on the tube?

Renee 11.02.04 at 7:04 pm

It’s on

John C James III 11.02.04 at 7:08 pm

Well that’s all the blogging for me tonight. I have a very slow connection at home so – I’ll see y’all tomorrow!

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 7:18 pm

Donna – Are those Electoral College numbers?

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 7:19 pm

CNN has Ted Kennedy on YUCK!

Andy 11.02.04 at 7:20 pm

ABC started their coverage at 6:30 Eastern and plan to run to the end. The local FOX hasn’t started yet, I imagine they might kick in at 8 unless it’s a Detroit thing that they decided not to cover it. Hard to imagine tho since they’re showing King of the Hill right now.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 7:21 pm

My TV skips right past CNN. It knows that it’ll get socks thrown at it if it stops there :)

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 7:22 pm

What does it look like out there?

Carl 11.02.04 at 7:23 pm

I won’t relax until I see Florida and Ohio in red.

sergeantjones 11.02.04 at 7:24 pm

I’m with you Carl, how about NY sticking it to Boston, MA since they won the baseball game, how about some team spirit NY.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 7:24 pm

Drudge has his EV graphic up. The Fox news site has a detailed look at the races, to include senate.

Carin 11.02.04 at 7:25 pm

I *have* to move out of Detroit. Voting was a very depressing experience for me :( ( Ugh, I had to listen to people – who just assumed I was a liberal too – talk about the draft Bush would implement, etc, etc. I’ve been down all day.

Jema 11.02.04 at 7:28 pm

My hubby just called from work (local news affiliate). The NAACP in Detroit has filed a federal lawsuit about voter intimidation. According to him “all h-e-double hocky sticks is breaking loose” (censored for LaShawn’s comment sensibilities).

Steven J. Kelso Sr. 11.02.04 at 7:28 pm

In a couple of minutes, you will see Ohio go into the too close to call column. Expect it to stay there a long time.

Many christians will have voted for Kerry; It’s very close.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 7:31 pm

West Virginia for Bush! Add 5 to the total. CNN projection. It had been “leaning” toward Bush. Praise God!

Carin 11.02.04 at 7:35 pm

WHAT Jema? I swear, Detroit has to be the most PRO-Dem vote they can count on. This am, the people were in line cheering about the power of their voting power. Not to mention, they weren’t very fussy about making people take off or cover their Kerry buttons, etc. I saw at least 4, and I wasn’t really looking that hard.

Carl 11.02.04 at 7:35 pm

I can’t get any other blogs besides this one. With WVA going GW, we should also win VA. Also, we can’t be afraid of a high turnout, we know the people have spoken

Andy 11.02.04 at 7:36 pm

CNN.com sez

Check out http://www.megapundit.com for the election blow-by-blow.
It’s Bush 34 Kerry 3

Elizabeth B 11.02.04 at 7:38 pm

Donna-

Cell phone only people are 5% of the population. We are and also many of our friends. However, since most of our friends are either Christians or military or both, our sample of cell phone only voters skews 100% Bush! I would expect this group to trend slightly Kerry.

However, call screeners (those with caller ID who don’t answer unknown numbers) are a much larger group, I think 30% of those called in the polls. This group is older and more likely to tend Bush.

At any rate, we’ll know soon. Keep praying.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:38 pm

The amendment to ban gay marriage PASSED! BUSH WILL WIN OHIO!!!!

Carl 11.02.04 at 7:38 pm

Hold on Ray, no celebrating yet

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 7:39 pm

Okay, who has the Valium? Lol. 2 votes in IN for Bush here. Also, as of right now, my husband’s cousin is winning the city council race where we live. We are very excited about that. His democratic opponent was his boss…Lol. I don’t know if I would want to go back to work after beating my boss. :-)

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 7:41 pm

Man, it is GOOD to see you guys. Thanks for stopping in. The anticipation is the worst part of this whole thing. Check out the link to the election map.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:42 pm

Naw man,

I’ve waited too long for this. I am celebrating now so I can! I am enjoyingevery battle won RIGHT NOW.

OPTIMISM and prayer Carl.

We picked up Zell’s seat too and the GOP is ROCKING down here in Florida!!!!!!!

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:45 pm

Did I tell you guys I took my wife and child to see the President in Lakeland. He walked over and shook my hand. We were lucky and got VIP tickets. I yelled out “MR. PRESIDENT!” and he stopped, walked over to me, looked me in the eye and gave me a high five shake!!

My liberal Democrat wife voted for him after that and my 6 year old daughter loves the guy and Laura and comes running for me everytime they appear on TV.

I converted one lib vote and I KNOW many of you did the same. We are no longer a house divided.

Elizabeth B 11.02.04 at 7:48 pm

We’re going to go watch with our neighbors. (We gave up our TV. Tonight, the debates, and the Olympics are the only time we miss it. But, our daughter is 2 1/2 and we have another due in February, so we’re glad we did. We watch DVDs on the computer)

I’ll miss the live blogging, but it’s more fun to watch on TV than online.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:48 pm

Looks like Mel Martinez will give us ANOTHER seat in the Senate!!! He is presently stomping Betty Castor.

Yes, it is still early, but signs are encouraging.

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 7:54 pm

I hope you guys are paying attention to my live-blogging. I’m trying to track down the latest info.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 7:55 pm

Ray,

That is some exciting news. I’m ready to move back to FL now!! :-)

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:55 pm

I may have to reschedule some meetings this week if thi trend keeps up. Looking REALLY good right now.

Tavis Smiley on now………and of course he goes negative.

ALL of the pundits are frightened of the “gay marriage effect” and with good reason.

African Americans going over to the light on this issue?

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 7:56 pm

Okay, I want time to go really slow, so Repubs. can get out there and still vote. BUT, I wish it would go faster, so we can know that Bush is reelected NOW. Yes, I’m a tad impatient…Lol.

Renee 11.02.04 at 7:57 pm

New York Post Online is pretty good with the updates…
they are showing Ohio and some reporting from FL
Good stuff so far

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:57 pm

Come on down. This is a GOP state FOR SURE NOW!! Even Tavis is showing fear. He is discussing how Black voters turned away from the Dems because of Godless issues like “gay marriage.”

They didn’t want to listen to us when we said this was a big issue. They are now.

Carin 11.02.04 at 7:58 pm

La Shawn, I’m reading the liveblogging too … but I’m not looking at numbers (Ohio ones you mentioned) until they are gonna start calling them ON the networks. I don’t want to get my hopes up. Anyone else have Foxnews playing in the background?

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 7:59 pm

FLORIDA: BUSH 54% KERRY 45% with now 11% reporting.

Renee 11.02.04 at 7:59 pm

It’s early and OH is close

Andy 11.02.04 at 7:59 pm

On ABC Tavis Smiley just claimed that Bush alienated the Black vote! Oh yeah? Please explain why Bush is projected to win double his numbers from 2000?

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:01 pm

I just looked at FL results for 8% of precincts reporting–

BUSHIE’S LEADING 56%!!!! to Kerry’s 43%. I don’t know which precincts those are, but they don’t include the panhandle, yet. Keep praying!!

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:01 pm

Tavis is not known for telling the truth. He KNOWS Bush doubled up on his previous black vote take.

If Bush gets the reported 18% of the black vote, it is over.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:02 pm

The Panhandle votes will blow this thing WIDE OPEN!!!

Jema 11.02.04 at 8:02 pm

Carin –

Weird, huh? Detroit has basically been written off as Democrat, not sure what the hullabaloo is about. Hubby works at WDIV (NBC), but we don’t have cable — antennae signal sucks for that channel only! Kids are watching a Barney video. As soon as I can get local news on the tube, I’ll see if anyone else is covering it. Nothing about it on WDIV’s website, so not sure what’s up.

Smooth 11.02.04 at 8:06 pm

I was up at 5am this morning. Voted for Bush at 6:45am. Got to work at 7:45am. Was on the web searching, googling, blogging, responding, panting, gasping, reacting – all – day – long – until I left work at 4pm. Got home at 5pm and as I parked, pulled the Bush/Cheney sticker off my car in case we have a – Oh My Dear God Please Bush Victory – because spouse told me to so that I don’t get vandalized again tomorrow after results come in. Have been blogging ever since. Spouse has been scanning every news channel for results. Oh dear God, please have George Bush win as the President of the United States.

CAN THIS BE?!

www zogby dot com

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:11 pm

Zogby is delusional and a liar. He called that much earlier this afternoon. Many have said that he’s trying to influence the election.

Jerry McClellan 11.02.04 at 8:12 pm

According to Townhall.coms C-Log, Bush 66, Kerry 71.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:12 pm

Carin 11.02.04 at 8:12 pm

Jema, what side of the city do you live in?? I saw the NAACP “people” out – carrying signs to talk to them if you have a voting problem (@@). I mean, they were fishing for anything. But, I swear, my experience is that the polling location was as friendly to a Democrat as a fly is to crap. ALL Democrat signs out (no Bush, etc.) Please, it is really really sad.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:12 pm

Ray,

Do you know what part of FL has been counted already?

Renee 11.02.04 at 8:12 pm

CNN has Kerry up in OH with 145,000 votes in…

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:13 pm

Zogby is politicking for a job as official pollster in the Kerry administration. His polls sample HEAVILY Democrat.

He got lucky last time.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:14 pm

Sorry Kiki I do not know. I’ll try to find out quick like a bunny….

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:16 pm

Thanks, Ray. I would just love it if the numbers being reported for Bushie in FL are East Coast numbers, because you KNOW the West Coast and Panhandle are conservative. I would love to see a Bush landslide in FL.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:18 pm

CNN is being VERY aggressive in its projections.

Andy 11.02.04 at 8:18 pm

Fox news is up and running on the local Detroit station. Now I can monitor fair and balanced instead of listening to that ijit Mark halprin and boo-hoo Tavis Smiley over on ABC. No doubt about it, they are shocked, shocked indeed over the way DMA (Defense of Marriage Amendment) is running so strong.

Also for Michigan, it looks like the proposition to force the State to “Mother May I?” for each and every lottery and State sponsored gambling. Yeah!!!

Brock 11.02.04 at 8:20 pm

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 8:23 pm

Andy 11.02.04 at 8:24 pm

Brock, simply put, if I as a Christian have the right to have my vote counted and be heard, I might as well have it go with hand in hand with my sense of morality.

If and when the country’s majority decides that gay marriage is a right, so be it. Until then, I say no. Sorry

slavery was once quite popular in this country as well…that doesn’t make it morally correct.

btw, slavery is also favored quite openly in the bible…doesn’t make it the right thing to do does it??

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:30 pm

Dee,

I have heard that they will count them only if it is close in FL. Roughly 150,000 of those are projected for Bush since they would be military absentee ballots.

Jema 11.02.04 at 8:32 pm

Carin –

I don’t live in Detroit, I live downriver. Hubby works for WDIV, right down by the MGM Grand. I don’t know if he saw any firsthand, he works in the newsroom in receive, bringing in the live shots from the microwave trucks.

Downriver, voting was a breeze. It was harder parking at 8 am at a school than getting in to vote. Strange thing though — No ID’s were checked, none at all. I could have been voting anyone’s registration as long as I knew their name, address, and birthdate.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:32 pm

First of all, Brock, slavery is NOT endorsed in any way in the Bible. Secondly, homosexuality is very much condemned and called a sin in the Bible. Now, let’s get back on topic, and discuss the election.

Dee 11.02.04 at 8:32 pm

Thanks Kiki :-)

Brock 11.02.04 at 8:33 pm

hey steven,

believe it or not, i realllly don’t want YOU or (especially) you’re children.

gay people are no more likely to molest children than straight.

you have the right to believe what you want. you have the right to worship as you choose. and you have the right to have your relationship recognized by the federal government for a huge number of benefits (over 1000 of them).

we are just asking for the same.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:34 pm

They didn’t check our ID’s here in IN, either, Jema. I showed mine, though. I think it’s assinine that they are changing the rules just because of intimidation tactics by the Dems. I have to show my ID to write a check, why shouldn’t I have to show it to vote?

Andy 11.02.04 at 8:34 pm

Andy 11.02.04 at 8:40 pm

At my precint in Detroit, they were asking for ID, but not consistently. I showed mine. I guess those with voter cards were assumed to be legit. Since I moved, my card didn’t catch up to me, I guess that was cause for asking for ID.

My polling place was hosting the 3 neighboring precints and wouldn’t you know it, I had go to each of the 3 precinct stations before I found mine — last place you look is always a charm :)

Brock 11.02.04 at 8:40 pm

hey kiki,

sorry, the topic was Defense of Marriage Act, and I didn’t bring it up.

homosexuality is not actually a word that appears in the bible at all. you’ll find most references to ‘man lying with man’ in Leviticus being called an ‘abomination’ and not a sin. PLEASE READ that entire scripture…it also talks about many many many other things that are also abominations (ie…eating shellfish)

please quote scripture and verse where is says that being gay is a sin kiki

Andy 11.02.04 at 8:41 pm

Brock 11.02.04 at 8:46 pm

Dee 11.02.04 at 8:47 pm

Brock quote:

“you have the right to have your relationship recognized by the federal government for a huge number of benefits (over 1000 of them)”

Let’s not forget the responsibilities a reality some Gay couples in California where not ready to take on.

When the State of California decided to write a more muscular civil union law to offer the responsibilities and benefits of marriage to same sex partners, Gay Marriage Activists hailed this law as a giant step towards marriage equality. A funny thing happened on the way to equality, many same sex couples started opting to get out of this quasi-marriage arraigment. Last summer the State of California send gay couples registered under the old weaker civil union law letters informing them that they had until Jan 1 to opt out before the new law with the added rights and responsibilities came into effect. The problem it seems that as many newly het marriage couples find out married couples are punished by Federal tax code specifically Federal Income taxes.

Another un intended consequence of the new law in CA was a loss of benefits of the state run health care insurance as well as disability payments when the combined income of both partners was added to the equation. Rather than losing government benefits many couples decided to get out of their current civil arraignment. The reality of marriage took some gay couples by surprise. Marriage it is not only about the benefits but also the added responsibilities, apparently some folks in California were not prepared to deal with. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

Carl 11.02.04 at 8:47 pm

You’re right Sarg. PA, NY & Ohio very slow reporting. When are they gonna call Florida for Bush??!!

Jerry McClellan 11.02.04 at 8:48 pm

Brock, you need to drop your anger and then you will see the truth for what it is. Stop trying to use scripture to justify obviously immoral behavior. Shameful.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 8:48 pm

Brock,

Here’s the definition of abomination:

abom•i•na•tion \e-’ba-me-”na-shen\ noun (14c)
1 : something abominable
2 : extreme disgust and hatred : loathing
(C)1997, 1996 Zane Publishing, Inc. All rights reserved

Sin is something that is contrary to the nature of God. He created man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. He always intended for it to be man and woman together, so homosexuality is a SIN, as it is contrary to the nature of God. And, I will let you read the above definition of abomination, and you can infer from that how God feels about homosexuality. Please don’t try to justify your sin with God’s Word. It won’t work. You will be held accountable for your sin, just as I will. However, I have accepted the Lord as my personal Savior, therefore, I am forgiven, and I will go to be with my Lord when I die.

So Brock,
Seriously explain this to me…

If people are “born” gay, how do you explain bi-secuals and Anne Hesch? Sorry but those examples and many like them (although we don’t hear those spattered all over the news)… point to choice. Just how I view it with the facts placed in front of me. I am sure a pedophile, an adulturer and a sex addict can all say, they were born gay also. Can they not? And if not, why not?

Brock 11.02.04 at 9:02 pm

renee, the world isn’t black and white but shades of grey.

Donna Boucher 11.02.04 at 9:05 pm

Dan Rather is in fine form again this year!
“George Bush is sweeping through the Midwest like a big combine.”

He is so funny to listen to!

Carl 11.02.04 at 9:07 pm

Right now Bush 157-112. 113 to go. Keep our fingers crossed everyone.

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 9:08 pm

Let’s do discuss the election. That’s what I’m here for, not to discuss homosexuality, Brock.

Carl, they should have called FL for Bush by now, but it seems that they aren’t calling the battleground states. :-( They wouldn’t want to make the mistake of four years ago, especially if it’s in Bush’s favor. Hmph!

La Shawn 11.02.04 at 9:08 pm

Florida, Florida, Florida!

Shep Smith of FOX says Florida is “tight.” IT IS NOT! Call it for Bush!!!!

Bush is stomping Kerry. Even with Broward, Dade and Palm Beach, it will be darned near impossible for Kerry to make up a 9 POINT deficit!!!

Dee 11.02.04 at 9:12 pm

NPR just said that the southern counties in Florida have not been counted yet.

Zack 11.02.04 at 9:19 pm

I think it is funny how I read about the parties being upset about a close election. Maybe if either party had a candidate worth voting for people would get more excited… who knows. I am a Nader fan. I am going to boycott the Democratic, and Republican party, because both are paid off by the same rich corporations that run America.

I heard on NPR that it really doesn’t matter who you vote for because they will just get bought out by the same lobby groups. What a country…

Well, that is all I have to say.

Raymond C. Coleman 11.02.04 at 9:20 pm

Lets not forget the maddening habit of elderly jewish NY transplants in South Florida continue to vote for Democrats as if FDR was still running for office.

Nonetheless, the lesson the Dems will have to take from it is that even if they have a majority of Dems staying true to the party ticket, they ain’t buying Jesse’s claim that DMA is a non issue.

i guess the good thing about sKerry is that if he becomes POTUS, he has no choice but to change position again and explain that he was ALWAYS for DMA

FOX-Detroit sez the Detroit NAACP is definitely suing and demanding the polls stay open as long as it takes to get everyone in.

MI-DMA is 65% yea to 35% nay.

Looks like the Detroit School system will be run by 7 disctrict and 4 at large boar members w/ power to hire/fire the CEO. Instead of 9 district boardmembers and sole hire/fire power going to the Mayor. Whoo-hoo!! Kwame has enough corruption problems than to be sticking his thuggish hands into the school monies

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 9:56 pm

It seems that in PA, it might be the Philly precincts being counted. One county in PA is keeping polls open 5 more minutes to accomodate the massive numbers in line. Anybody know where LeHigh county is in PA? Mercer county in PA had a software problem, so it’s going to be a bit before we have the numbers from that area.

Carl 11.02.04 at 9:58 pm

PA is completely screwy. Kerry can’t be doing 10 points better in PA than NY, and 20pts better than anywhere else in the country. He’s doing better in PA than in MASS for GOd’s sake, something is weird!!

Dee 11.02.04 at 9:59 pm

Clueless NPR comentators. They are saying that moral values is what separates Republicans from democrats. Wrong, it is what separates Conservative Democrats from their party.

Andy 11.02.04 at 10:00 pm

Plus PA won’t be able to tally the military absentee vote until tomorrow or Thurs.

FOX-Det sez the GOP is definitely suing because election workers forced the GOP challengers to leave, when by State law, they are allowed to monitor for any zombies or dead folks trying to vote

Brock2 11.02.04 at 10:01 pm

whoever banned me…nice try.

Andy, enjoy the temporary DMA wins while they last. They will be voted down by the next generation. Old habits die hard, but they do die eventually.

“a poll taken last month for the National Annenberg Election Survey at the University of Pennsylvania showed that just over half of people ages 18 to 29 would oppose a law in their states that would allow lesbians and gay men to marry a same-sex partner. That compares with 61 percent of 30- to 44-year-olds; two-thirds of 45- to 64-year-olds; and 81 percent of those 65 and older.”

Steven J. Kelso Sr. 11.02.04 at 10:02 pm

Rendell is a crook. He was the DNC pooba in 2000, and the former Mayor of Philadelphia…
He allowed for an extension on the absentee votes, only after Kurt Weldon, Arlen Spectre and a host of conservative radio took him to task and gave him no respite.
I’ve known (by association and in person) Rendell for 15 years… if he can toss those votes, he will.

Go Michaels….Finegold is horrible. His voting record is the opposite of what I believe in and he has been here for 12 years.

There is still hope for Michaels.

Carl 11.02.04 at 10:54 pm

Andy, he still maintains his 2 m pop vote lead.

Jim R 11.02.04 at 10:55 pm

Excuse me while I get misty. :-)

ggalco 11.02.04 at 10:56 pm

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 11:04 pm

This is ticking me off. They are calling states supposedly for Kerry way early, and holding off on calling states for Bush. Sheesh!

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 11:04 pm

Fox News just gave Idaho to Bush.

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 11:06 pm

BUT, all of the news sites have NO NUMBERS on CA.

ggalco 11.02.04 at 11:09 pm

I noticed that trend too Kiki B. Just another ploy to withhold the truth.
Lawsuit in FLA re: absentee ballots

Andy 11.02.04 at 11:10 pm

ABC-Detroit thinks Bush might get MI after all

Kiki B. 11.02.04 at 11:10 pm

Oh for crying out loud!! ACLU has just filed a lawsuit in FL to extend absentee ballot deadline to Dec. 12th. That’s the one for overseas, and they want to have it that way for all of FL. Why can’t these special interest groups get out of politics and the courts, and let us have our way??

Allan 11.02.04 at 11:10 pm

The best reason not to vote Constitution Party…they can’t win unless the United States Congress switch to a parliamentary system like Great Britain. Same holds true for Libertarian, Peace & Freedom, Natural Law, Green, Blue, Pink, Blonde, Brown Eyed, etc…parties.

Steven J. Kelso Sr. 11.02.04 at 11:11 pm

Mongiardo already gave his concession speech in KY. Bunning has won.

Jim R 11.02.04 at 11:12 pm

Just got good shot of Bush and extended family in Texas from MSNBC. All looking upbeat and happy. MSNBC says if Bush wasn’t feeling confident, they would not be getting these family shots at this point.

Andy 11.02.04 at 11:12 pm

Too bad CA’s EV wasn’t proportioned amongst the pop vote like they tried to put CO into.

Anyone know how the numbers look in CO? Especially that referendum to break up the EV?

Renee 11.02.04 at 11:14 pm

Looking at the county map for FL…

they still have a few counties out and I am not sure how many of the really large number precincts are left (and who knows, next they’ll say people are still voting like in OH and PA). Amazing how they will keep polls open in states that had EARLY voting (like OH and FL). GEESH is right

Carl 11.02.04 at 11:15 pm

Andy, Bush, Salazar currently leading with about 50%. That prop goes down by 2-1 margin

Jim R 11.02.04 at 11:16 pm

Wow. Thanks Kiki. MSNBC said Bunning was confident but they weren’t. Glad to here about the concession. Did they shake on it. :-)

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 11:26 pm

96% of Florida is in. Bush up by the same 300k he has been up for hours. What is going on?????

SCSI/Kiki, if Bush is ahead by 400K, the Dems and ACLU may just as well give it up. There’s no way that can get overturned either by Dems abroad nor recount.

3 cheers to the FL panhandle. Methinks this confirms that had they voted and the 4 mill Christian Cobservatives that stayed home, Bush would have had his mandate.

Moral of the story, your vote counts

Carl 11.02.04 at 11:28 pm

I think that if they call Florida, Bush wins, and people turn off the tube. I can’t think of any other reason for not calling it.

Steven J. Kelso Sr. 11.02.04 at 11:29 pm

Don’t know if it is true, but Juan Williams just said on Fox that the Ohio election may come down to my wonderful city, Columbus.

Black turnout was large and angry!

Andy 11.02.04 at 11:32 pm

Carl, think you have something there. Plus if they call Fla, it’ll take the wind out of any other place still voting

Allan 11.02.04 at 11:32 pm

Joshua – This state (CA) has to be split into parts. The People’s Republic of SF/Berkeley, Central Valley, North, Southeast, and LA into ten pieces, each with a share of the EV’s. Then maybe our votes will count for something other than making ourselves feel good.

Have you seen how they’ve gone for Boxer? Unbelievable!!!!

Allan 11.02.04 at 11:36 pm

Andy 11.02.04 at 11:36 pm

ABC-Detroit sez that both poll watchers have been tossed out of Cobop Hall where absetee ballots were being counted. Dems sez the Reps were intimidating while Reps sez the Dems were trying to stuff the boxes.

Kwame’s mama went on a rant saying the Reps committed felonies by touching the ballots. We-e-e-’ll see!!

SCSIwuzzy 11.02.04 at 11:36 pm

I really do want to see the facts on how many African Americans really did vote for Bush (I know I did) but I want to see Kerry, Jesse and Al go in front of the congregations they pimped and apoligize. I know, long shot but it sounds good:)

Dee 11.03.04 at 12:28 am

a 269 to 269 tie? No way! Does that mean Edwards is Vice President? oh the horror!

Jim R 11.03.04 at 12:32 am

Andy 11.03.04 at 12:32 am

Bush leads Ohio by about 100,000 votes. Even the Dems won’t contest that margin.

There are approximately 250,000 provisional ballots as yet uncounted. If the Dems demand their counting Kerry would have to win 3 to 1 (not likely). In addition, the absentee ballots are still not counted and they would expect to break for Bush.

Bush is SAFE in Ohio and Alaska and probably in New Mexico and Hawaii.

Furthermore, the Repubs will probably pick up four seats in the Senate.

Heck, it’s a mandate!
