Bush*La Shawn exhales…* :D

From My Way News:

President Bush won a second term from a divided and anxious nation, his promise of steady, strong wartime leadership trumping John Kerry’s fresh-start approach to Iraq and joblessness. After a long, tense night of vote counting, the Democrat called Bush Wednesday to concede Ohio and the presidency, The Associated Press learned.

Kerry ended his quest, concluding one of the most expensive and bitterly contested races on record, with a call to the president shortly after 11 a.m. EST, according to two officials familiar with the conversation.

The victory gave Bush four more years to pursue the war on terror and a conservative, tax-cutting agenda - and probably the opportunity to name one or more justices to an aging Supreme Court.

He also will preside over expanded Republican majorities in Congress.

“Congratulations, Mr. President,” Kerry said in the conversation described by sources as lasting less than five minutes. One of the sources was Republican, the other a Democrat.

I stand corrected. John Kerry accepted defeat like a man. Now let’s get down to business. There is still much work to do for America.

Around the blogosphere: Power Line, Michelle Malkin, INDC Journal, Michael King , Protein Wisdom. You know, I wondered what would become of Blogs For Bush had Kerry won. No more thoughts about that!

Update: Page loading may be a little slow. I’m getting a Google-lanche from people looking for “Kerry Concession Speech” and variations on the theme. They’re hitting this page.

Rush Limbaugh (paraphrase): The same media who loves Kerry and did everything they could to help his campaign are the same media who caused him great embarrassment with their faulty and fraudulent exit polls.

Update II: News flash: George Bush is the president of the United States.

Washington Post (reg. req.): “Four years later, it is still a divided country — perhaps more sullenly than ever — but as a long election night bled into morning the evidence was clear that it is becoming a more Republican one.”

“Republican Congress Set to Push Bush Agenda” (Source)

Update III: From a concerned reader:

Your pitiful attempt at humor over one of our country’s toughest election results is appalling. Kerry had every opportunity to attempt to await the provisional & military ballot results and hold up the election and he did indeed take the high road.

It is attitudes like yours that will lead our country further into
division and negativity.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Signed “Susanna”

Update IV: Dave, a Democrat, has some advice for his party. (Hat tip: Dean’s World)

See Michael Bowen’s no-gloat post.

Update V: Very nice post by liberal blogger and writer, Marc Cooper. You’ll object to some things, but the whole piece is quite insightful. Read it and take it in.

Juliette attended an election night party with other bloggers. Her assessment of Dan Rather, Ed Bradley and Lesley Stahl is too funny. And too true.

Check out Red America.

  4. VICTORY FOR BUSH & AMERICA!!!!!
Thank God almighty for his grace and mercy! Fox news reports that Kerry finally concedes to President Bush It’s about time. I believe Fox declared Bush as winning first, before all of the other networks. When I left for my office this morning I was watching NBC’s today show (don’t have cable) and they were still reporting that Ohio, New Mexico, and Nevada were not decided yet. What is up with that….

  10. I am so relieved that Kerry didn’t decide to go the route of the 2000 election. I still think it is bad news because since he did go honorably, the media will glorify Kerry and make him look good. That makes it open game for him to re-run in 2008, probably against Hillary Clinton.

  12. LaShawn,

I was gonna blog on what the second Bush Administration might look like but I am simply worthless today.

Wanted to say how whiney the Dems are today. I listen to Washington Journal on Cspan every morning. You should have heard the excuse making, the crying and the boohooing on the Kerry supporter lines. One California caller stated tha look at all the states that voted for Bush, the same states with the low education in the nation and the highest bankurptcies. Than he proceeds to dog the Christians across America and call everyone red neck christians! Say what!

  14. I’m so happy about this, I don’t know how to act! As you can imagine, the city of DC is depressed. You should have seen all the long faces on the Metro. Up and down the street, everywhere I turned, people were downright morose! Me? I had a spring in my step and a smile on my face. Several people did double-takes. I know they were thinking: “Don’t tell me she’s happy about this! A conservative of any color in DC???”

We DC conservatives gave George Bush our 9 percent!

Also, let’s not forget the $100 million DECREASE (quick lesson, again: Tax cuts = MORE tax revenue…my liberal Einsteins)……..in the deficit since January 2004. In othe words, make my tax cuts permanent. Soon.

  19. I saw a Democratic pundit “sneer” on network TV this morning that maybe the South should form its own country ( a new Confederacy). Hate and fear-mongering are apparently alive and well. When I view the map I see the distribution of the vote in somewhat of a different light.
If we look at those who are out of touch, it would appear that the Great Lakes and New England states should join our neighbors to the north in hating the rest of America.

  25. I agree with you LaShawn, we do have a lot of work ahead of us. This election was won on the moral values vote. The 2008 campaign begins today. We must all begin to use our voices to speak for truth and right. We must reach out to those people who don’t vote, for any reason, and help them understand why it is important to vote.

We have been handed the banner. Raise it high. Stand tall. Speak out for good, and against evil, when encountered.

I went over to dailykos, to check out markos reaction… well, the expected “the fight is not over! We have 4 years to get them!!” was there.
But here’s that part that I found really out there… Kos is advocating that Howard Dean take over the DNC. I guess he thinks Kerry and the other Dems lost because they just weren’t liberal enough!
Considering how the candidates ran from the label like an Israeli from a palestinian with suspicious buldges under his vest, I doubt that going farther left would have won the presidency, or any seats in the house or senate.
It’s not like lefty voters jumped on Nader or other 3rd party candidates in a search for a ‘real liberal’ or something.
Maybe he just dislikes Terry Mc, but there has to be a better comitte chair than Dean…
I hear Bubba’s free, since I doubt he’ll get real support to take over Kofi’s job :)

  30. Yes, on Fox News Network I saw the lib that said that the south should be it’s own country.

That just shows what the democrats really think. After all, the South was a Democrat stronghold since the Civil War. Then when they slowly turned republican, the Dems start insulting the south, calling them “Hicks and Rendnecks.” I can imagine if the African-American votes shift more conservative, they would do the same to the African-Americans. That just shows the thought process of the opposite party.

Being a new Christian I need your help. Is it gluttony or gloating that’s a sin? Actually there’s only a small part of me that wants to gloat..and that’s only to my friend who was offended when I mentioned God to her. She has been liberal “all” her life and truely believes Bush’s faith in God is going to destroy the world. I’m waiting on Bush’s speech. I hope he is humble..but unowhat? “I saw a Democratic pundit “sneer” on network TV this morning that maybe the South should form its own country(a new Confederacy).”

These two statements, the first one by from ‘our’ side and the other from ‘their’ side points out to me the real work that needs to be done by all of us after this political war has been won. Let’s thank our God it wasn’t with real weapons this time.

Lets support the President, when he asked Senator Kerry and his passionate Democratic supporters to give him a second chance to bring us all together. The important work for us now IMO is to lay down our attack weapons please and be positive for the future of America and the tough problems ahead we need to solve together.

  47. Hi La Shawn - thanks for having your blog open last night. It was a lot of fun - I was racing Andy to get results (Lol). Knew Bush had it even when Kerry wasn’t conceding - even if he had got Ohio he would have only had 269 and the house would have picked Bush for Prez - so Bush had it in all scenarios.

Well I hope things get back to some normality (whatever that is). Glad you guys have a Prez and could you please now get Iraq sorted out pronto?

  60. Four more years of “Compassionate Conservatism”. The President now has no more excuses not to make some serious conservative inroads to shrink the size and scope of the D.C. government.

Further abetting the presidents cause is the defeat of Dashing Tom “Puff” Daschle, having been vanquished by a far better man, John Thune. On behalf of all of us, thank you, John!

Congratulations, Mr. President. We must now not let up in keeping him accountable.

  61. I talked with my grandma last night, who is 78 years old, lives in Oregon and voted for Bush. I asked her why she voted for Bush and she said first, she voted for him because he was a religious man and secondly, she takes care of herself, isn’t on a single drug and thinks all older people should stop smoking, eat better and exercise more so they wouldn’t be on as many prescription drugs they can’t seem to afford. This is a direct quote, “They don’t need Kerry’s help to get off their asses and fend for themselves.” Priceless! I dare anyone to call my aging grandmother an ignorant Republican…she’s seen more in her life than probably anyone else around! She also gets by on her tiny social security check just fine. :)

I want to say that this wasn’t about Republican versus Democrat.

This was a battle of two very different world views.

I for one am not a Republican nor am I a *Democrat
    (*read Socialist).

I am first a Bible believing born again Christian, who is a Conservative Nationalist.

I vote for the candidate who best represents my values.

The candidate that best represented my Christian Conservative Nationalist values was and is George “Dubya” Bush.

Now, the President is free to show us just what kind of Conservative he is.

He is now free to take on activist judges and their ilk.

GO GET ‘EM DUBYA!!! SHOW US WHAT YOU’RE MADE OF, SIR.

  69. GREAT days in American history.

    July 4, 1776 - Declaration of Independence
September 17, 1787 - Signing of the US Constitution
    December 6, 1865 - Ratification of 13th Amendment
    July 9, 1868 - Ratification of 14th Amendment
    February 3, 1870 - Ratification of 15th Amendment
    August 18, 1920 - Ratification of 19th Amendment
    June 6, 1944 - D-Day
November 2, 2004 - Ratification of American values

From a difficult birth and a doubtful adolescence, a troubled and tumultuous youth, through a rude awakening in young adulthood, America blossomed into full maturity yesterday. America told the world to follow us to a higher road. America told the godless United Nations that we, not they, are morally superior. America told the freedom haters in the world that they will not win because we will stand firmly against them. America rejected the fear merchants, the purveyors of filth, the trafficers in negativism, the deniers of truth, the hate-mongers.

America grew up on November 2, 2004. Pray that she remain worthy of the honor.

  70. The Demopublican big government liberal lost to the Republicrat big government conservative.

And this is some big victory?

Is this guy now going to start slashing and burning the bloated behemoth that is our national bureaucracy? If so, he’d be the first in history to do so. He has no more elections to worry about and his party controls all three branches of government.

Excuse time is over Mr. President. Prove me wrong. Start by dismantling the big government you helped grow during your first term.

  72. LaShawn,

I was gonna blog about this, but Drudge has put it on his site. Atty Gen Aschroft will tender his resignation in the next few days. I was going to blog about what a second Bush Administration would look like. It seems that Tom Ridge wants to go back to the private sector. You may see Colin Powell leave or even get bumped to Vice President(Cheney may suddenly develope “health concerns”). I heard about Rudy Guiliani mentioned as the Atty Gen, so this has been in the works for a while. Condi Rice will most likely stay.

    Interesting days folks.

  75. Hi, Cousin Beau. Thanks for voting twice for me and Mr. Kiki. :-) Although, I guess I forgot to tell you that you didn’t have to dress up in that frilly, lacy dress and blond wig…Sorry. My mind up and left in all the excitement. It was interesting to see you on the news today as the first “woman” to play for the LPGA. ;-) You fooled them quite well. Hee hee! I’m so bad.

  76. This is my first comment here, LaShawn, but I’ve been reading your blog for weeks now.

I just read the following comment on another blog. As a conservative, but caring individual, this line of thinking from the liberal left truly concerns me. What do you we do in the next four years to respond appropriately? Without rhetoric? In a Godly manner?

—-”In response to your comment, ‘Apparently, my country holds a fundamentally different set of values than I thought we did, and that scares the sh*t out of me.’

That is exactly how I feel. I don’t feel angry at Bush so much as I am angry at the hating fundamentalist simpletons who evidently make up the bulk of this country. Like I don’t belong here.”—–

If this is how the younger, liberal left feels, how on earth is there hope of briding the divide?

  77. Lisa - As you know, this is nothing new. Leftists called people of faith “hating fundamentalist simpletons” before the election. Nothing has changed from my vantage point.

Some people are under the mistaken impression that because they don’t belong to an organized religion, they don’t have one. There is something by which we all draw our values, though we’re not all right.

In some leftist worldviews, homosexuals should be allowed to marry just as men and women do. I don’t. Homosexuals have the same civil rights the rest of us have, and no one is trying to take anything away from them. Rather, they want special rights.

Some believe women are morally justified in killing their unborn. According to my value system, that’s horrid.

Bush is already working one of my nerves with all this “uniter not divider” talk. If uniting with leftists means he compromises on what’s right, DIVIDE, DIVIDE! The stakes are HIGH. We are in a culture war, as well as a war for homeland security. I believe the survival of our way of life depends on these things. The stakes are very high, and I want Republicans to finally take advantage of their number in Congress to get somethings done around here.

Christians know that we are in for the fight of our lives. We are hated by the world because the world hated Christ. All the nasty venom spouting from the mouths of people who should know better is neither surprising nor shocking. In fact, I’m amazed it’s so tame.

Lisa, keep reading my blog. I will try my best and depend on God as I deal with these issues everyday. Thank you for reading.

  78. Good Morning LaShawn,

I have come to realize several things as a result of this election. Though I put my faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ, the reality remains that I would have been crushed had Dubuya lost. I believe that would have been the same for most of the people on this blog and around the nation. What it taught me was, I do put more trust in men than I need to or that I like my reality in life too much and I want to keep my candidate in office. For example, I am such a Yankees fan, I am still in mourning that the ‘Sox are world champs in baseball.

LaShawn, I feel that I can say this with a great deal of certainty; had Kerry won the race, lefties would be gloating like you wouldn’t believe. They would be laughing it up and loving life more than I could stand it. What we are seeing are a group of society that are expressing ’sour grapes’.

As for us fundamentalist simpletons, there’s a cultural divide in this nation; morally. Not all of the 59 MILLION Bush supporters are EVEN Christians! So why is everyone fundamentalist? I see it as overreacting to the situation. Both sides wanted their candidate to win badly, and it’s just that the best man won. :)

    Comment by Dominic — 11.04.04 @ 6:35 am

  79. Hi Dominic!

You’re right about the gloating. Had Kerry won, they would have been merciless. I probably would’ve had to moderate comments 24 hours a day. I kept the blog “on” during election night because I knew they were just as preoccupied as we were. Had Kerry won, my comment policy would be very different.

I plan to blog about the moral issues in this election. The only ones shocked by the division are leftists.

Did I tell you lately how much I appreciate your reading my blog?

Not only did I fool them fools, but you’re boy looked GOOD!! Hot, hot, HOT!! Yes, quite frankly, I think I was lookin extremely sexy in my 3″, candy-apple red pumps. Hey, I’ve shopped at Victoria’s Secret. What?

And no, dear, no photographs shall meet anyone on The Corner’s eyes. I have enough trouble as it is with the young men on South Beach without encouraging them to hit on me anymore - more twisted flattery I can live without.

    So, it’s a done deal…….4 more years.

  83. This morning on ABC News show “Good Morning America”, the first story addressed whether the issue of morals played a decisive role in the defeat of John Kerry. Paul Begala incisively commented that the Democratic party has presented themselves as being “intellecually” superior and the party needs to devise some strategy to reclaim the “spritual” component of their platform. While this is not a direct quote, he added, in liberal fashion, that they must help us “backward” conservatives appreciate the diversity of ideas and choices the rest of us make as well. I think the word of God answers this well
    at 1 Corinthians 1:18-20

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
    “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will
    frustrate.”
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?

  84. Hi LaShawn,
Your words “hating fundamentalist simpletons” makes me stay in physics and math. Michelle Malkin may be kind mother and Montgomery County housewife but her pen or word processor can be real cutting to liberals. Only 9% of DC voted for “W”. Before the Cheney family and Bush family came out on stage Dr. Rice stepped forward with little flag. The first secretary to be sworn in with left hand on Bible and right hand raised was Colin Powell with Alma holding the family Bible. She is 51% veto over his running for office. At $100,000.00 per speaking engagement he can make more money as private individual then as Secretary of State. Two writers before the election (including D.C. Thornton) mentioned Abraham Lincoln in the Civil War. He is technology coordinator who knows happens to know Lincoln. We have a very educated, as least in reading history, literate group on the Internet. The liberal media is mostly lies on politics. La Shawn, is your site becoming like Michelle Malkin’s in that DoS or denial of service mode around election time.

  85. Hmm… 59 million simpletons? With college degrees???

I have a Master’s degree, yet I am the simpleton because I voted for Bush. Yeah, right.

How about there are 59 million Americans who know what’s right and do not let terrorists scare them into cowering with fear. It’s like Bush said. You don’t just go along with a certain policy just because it’s popular in certain European capitals.

  87. What do these 1 Corinthians versus mean DeJuan and Andy?
They seem to be discouraging getting an education or increasing your learning. I’m thinking this is probably not
    the case. Help.

    Comment by Jim R — 11.04.04 @ 9:55 pm

  88. In a nutshell, Jim: In order to understand the things of God, one must see them through “spiritual eyes.” For instance, being convicted of sin is a work of the Holy Spirit - God. We may feel guilty about our sin, but to be truly repentent is to know how vile we really are and how helpless we are without saving grace. A heart that seeks after God is one that’s been touched by grace. Christians believe that understanding the spiritual meaning of the Bible is a work of God - the Holy Spirit.

To someone who is unsaved, talk of a “Holy Spirit” sounds like silly superstition. The message of Jesus Christ and him crucified is so much bunk to them. While they are dead in their sins, they are “perishing” because they’re still alive and but will one day face God’s judgment. In other words, the message of a Savior who died for our sins is foolishness to them.

As for the part about wisdom: It has nothing to do with keeping people uneducated. It’s about man’s pride. While he gets caught up in “vain philosophies” and “rational” arguments to try to disprove the existence of God (something he loves to do), or deceive and manipulate others, or rationalize his own sin or merely to explain the meaning of his own existence, he knows nothing apart from God. Instead of seeking after God, he seeks after his own glory. It is not human nature to submit in obedience to our Creator, so we invent our own morality and philosophies to live (rebel) by.

I may go into this in more detail tomorrow. It’s late right now and I think I’m rambling.

    Comment by La Shawn — 11.04.04 @ 10:14 pm

  89. To Jim R:

By quoting 1 Cor. 1:18-20, I did not intend to discourage learning. The point that I am trying to make is that the elitist, all-knowing, liberal Democrat machine is at a loss to understand how faith and sprituality played a decisive role in John Kerry’s defeat. They proudly present themselves as being “enlighten”, “in -touch”, “progressive” and “open-minded”. We are labled “bigoted” and “simple-minded” because we have rejected their failed ideaology like abortion on demand, athesim, nilism and race-based set asides to name a few. That is why we have reached a point now in this society where the killing of an animal is practically equivalent to the killing of a human being. Even less for the unborn.

They are blind guides because their wisdom is not tempered with the wisdom and knowledge of the word of God. They will continue to be “frustrated” until they truly listen to us simple-minded folks.
