If I Were A Betting Woman…

by La Shawn on December 2, 2004

in Liberals

…I’d wager on two things:

1) The Democratic National Committee won’t select a black person to replace outgoing chair Terry McAuliffe;

2) The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People won’t select a black conservative/Republican to replace outgoing president Kweisi Mfume.

But since I’m not, I won’t. :)

re: the DNC. If they can find a sane black democrat that has mainstream appeal…
Who know, they may pick Obama, to show that Bush isn’t the only one who can appoint people of color to prominent positions. And the fact that he is the reigning flavor of the month.
re: the NAACP. they’d have to get a conservative membership first… Never Any Autonomous Conservatives, Period.
While we’re betting: The sun will rise in the east tomorrow.

Baklava 12.02.04 at 12:45 pm

La Shawn for DNC chair and NAACP president.

I’ll bet you that won’t happen in your lifetime. :)

Baklava 12.02.04 at 1:02 pm

National Security Advisor La Shawn Barber.

Makes me wonder if Condoleeza Rice has had conversations with President Bush about illegal immigration and National Security concerns.

LB 12.02.04 at 1:18 pm

Funny! Even if I were qualified, I’d never want to run an organization past its prime. The membership wouldn’t like my suggestions for improvement. They’d throw me out the first month.

Montie 12.02.04 at 1:24 pm

Sooo…since that eliminates the NAACP and DNC, that only leaves Baklava’s suggestion for La Shawn for National Security Advisor, an idea that I heartily second! If only we could get George to go along, it would be the best thing that could happen in this administration.

LB 12.02.04 at 1:29 pm

I’d gray before my time, then my hair would fall out, then I’d have a nervous breakdown…No, running a blog, working a day job, reading, writing, church-going, Bible-studying AND trying to have a social life is more than enough for me. ;)

Besides, I’d complain so much about the way he’s running things (the war, immigration enforcement), the president would throw me out the first month!

Baklava 12.02.04 at 1:32 pm

Pros:
1) I could go to bed every night knowing me and my daughters would be safer.

Cons:
1) I’d go through withdrawals (not being able to read this blog every other day).

Pros for you:
1) You could get kissed by President Bush.

Con for you:
1) You’d be targeted by Democrats with racist comments.

I believe that the odds would be in your favor, La Shawn.

You got my vote (in the Webbie awards), since you’re the only one of those I read. Where was Power Line on that list? Odd…

Wade Calvert 12.02.04 at 2:48 pm

I voted for you La Shawn. GOOD LUCK! The exit poll results didn’t look promising, but can we really trust them??? If I were you, I’d launch a preemptive strike of voter suppression against the other conservative bloggers.

LB 12.02.04 at 2:56 pm

Thanks for voting. I’m not going to win, but it’s nice to be a Weblog Award Nominee!

Steven J. Kelso Sr. 12.02.04 at 2:59 pm

La Shawn – With all of that going on, I nominate you for a vacation. Wow!

Kevin 12.02.04 at 3:54 pm

If you lose, you can always demand a recount!

cooper 12.02.04 at 5:42 pm

LB got my vote too!

BobG 12.02.04 at 7:24 pm

You got my vote.

Renee 12.02.04 at 7:28 pm

You got my vote LB. I second Steven’s motion…
VACATION for LaShawn :-)

seal-lover 12.02.04 at 7:46 pm

Another vote for LB!

Demond S. Hunter 12.02.04 at 7:48 pm

Lashawn…My oldest daughter has her eyes set on that NSA job. But this will be probably in 2030. So as of now you are safe to apply for the NSA job….

Now if the NAACP picks a conservative. they would have to change their name to the National Association for the Advancement of Conservative Programs (or People) :-)

Take care

Vodkapundit is not going to be happy you’re trying to pass him in the Conservative Blog race La Shawn. He’s sent a lot of traffic your way in the past, and now your trying to run over him like road kill. :)

SCSIwuzzy 12.02.04 at 9:37 pm

Wait a minute… where’s Instapundit? According to Willis and DU, he’s the conservative devil incarnate…
Oh, wait, forgot they are out in orbit…
I’m suprised VP isn’t firmly behind CQ. Still, LB for #3!

Tom Blogical 12.02.04 at 10:42 pm

Oh, all right, since you twisted my arm…ya get my vote. As for the DNC Chair and NAACP: . It’ll be the same old message, with different messengers.

PurpleMD 12.02.04 at 11:03 pm

Did you forget with whom you are dealing? They won’t pick any Black people at all. They’ll have to choose from the Plantation Negroes, Jim Crow Colored People or dependent, entitled African Americans.

Blacks need not apply…

Geez, An atheist vote for you my dear. What’s the world
coming to? Keep on chooglin’ child … keep on. And don’t
mistake my terms of endearment for patronization … they
are of my heart. Hmmm, do atheists have hearts? Sure they
do. Not real sure about the ’soul’ thing though ;)

Ell Small 12.03.04 at 10:48 am

Congrats’ on the well-deserved recognition, ya’ got my vote!

Merry 12.04.04 at 11:39 am

Just voted for you La Shawn (your “update” link made it impossible to forget), and you’re looking good! Only one entry ahead of you, and not by an unbeatable margin!

La Shawn 12.04.04 at 11:42 am

Thanks, Merry! While I don’t expect to win, I’d like a good showing.

EG 12.06.04 at 11:04 am

I hate to call your bet but Ron Brown was the DNC chairman (1989-92).

LB 12.06.04 at 11:05 am

I know that EG. I guess you missed the point.
