I was saddened to hear about Rep. Chisolm’s death. She was a great role model when I lived in the Bronx during the 70’s… Peace to your family

The Good, they die too young. She was a real trail-blazer. Always did the right thing at the right time. She worked for the people she served and was uncorruptible.

Unfortunately, Ms Chisom chose to retire from a Blue State (NY – high taxes, opressive redistribution of wealth, anti business etcc – evidinced by millions leaving) which she helped create -

To a low tax, business and people friendly Red State (FL) that her “enemies” helped create.

When I was a wee girl growing up Ms. Chisolm fascinated me. I truly respected her and wanted to be like her when I grew up. She had such an inner strength, it was almost tangible to me. I have nothing but respect for her. May she rest in the hands of the Lord.

Her public service was second to none.

Considering the time that she served and what she was able to get done, she was outstanding.

I remember Shirley Chisolm speaking at a Democratic Convention. If my memory serves me right, I think it was the year Jimmy Carter was running for President. The one thing that I was impressed by her, was her conviction. Her belief in what she said. She was quite a speaker! Many may oppose her views, but at least she wasn’t giving lip service, or pretending to be someone or advocate something she didn’t really believe in.

May her memory be eternal…..

Thanks for the blog on Shirley Chisolm. Even though she and I disagreed with her on many issues, she was an inspiration to me. That initial appointment to the Agricultural Committee speaks volumes about how Congress works.

Thanks for covering this very under-exposed story. Ms. Chisolm is an inspiration to all Americans and I find it a shame that more media attention isn’t devoted to covering the loss of such a wonderful leader.

Just curious about the Chisolm quote: why were the Bed-Stuy people against integration? I assume she was talking about in the schools?

I can think of many reasons people may have had, even if they were on the short end of the stick in the system, but I’m wondering what reasons she gave.
