One word: DISGRACEFUL.
Unrelated Update: I have a new favicon, the icon appearing to the left of the blog URL. To view it, bookmark the site (you may have to refresh). What is it? Is it “me” or what?
Another Update: So nobody cares about the new favicon? OK. I’m trying out a new spam filter, so if you submit a comment and get a spam message, send me an e-mail and let me know.
See The Moderate Voice’s post on the hate mail.
Yet Another Update (1/13): The crown favicon was inspired by this post.

I stopped reading it after the first few of them, LaShawn. Granted, I feel some of Michelle’s views are extreme, but we have to learn to “respectfully” disagree. Those letters were just utterly tasteless. It makes me wonder if Michelle should be so open with her identity, etc. I remember once she spoke at a university in California and the book signing session had to be cancelled because of death threats. It makes me wonder if Michelle should be so open with her identity i.e. her e-mail address, etc.
That is a concern, Lisa. I know that’s an understatement, but…
Writers and bloggers need to be concerned about these things. Many people blog anonymously for safety reasons. I’m out in the open. I try to be cautious, though I’m not overly concerned about it. I admit that I don’t get e-mails with the word “whore” in them. I get Uncle Tom, Aunt Jemima, House Negro, shuckin-and-jivin kind of stuff, and people questioning my intelligence, integrity and faith, but so far I’ve never been called those names.
I can’t believe the racially derogatory nature of the e-mails. I’m speechless.
I would put Michelle Malkin right up there with Ann Coulter, she is not afraid to get into it and have it out with the Libs, and this is proof positive they can’t take it when it is thrown back at them with the same intensity as they dish it out.
Just by her posting these despicable e-mails shows how much class she really does have.
I say G-d Bless Michelle Malkin.
Mark
LaShawn,
I have seen minority males who are conservative being
called nasty things, but for females it must be worst!
A friend’s son at 250 pounds plus does not get it to his face, but it is different for small females! Dr. Rice is mocked in cartoons because she is black and female! What
will Senators from NE do to her at hearings to become Secretary of State?
JMB
Hopefully, Teddy Kennedy and company will be themselves. And it will all be on tape for C-Span.
“Disgraceful” may be the understatement of the year. Michelle is an American hero, as are you, LaShawn. As is Charles Johnson. Just because none of you shares the same skin color and one of you is a different gender, that don’t mean a thang. You guys are standardbearers and are taking violent front-line fire for the conservative revolution. I’m a nobody in the scheme of things, but I got yer back, girlfriend. Semper fi.
Those e-mails to Ms. Malkin are worse than disgraceful. It’s hard to believe people can think like that, much less send out their perverse Crayola mail.
Something really odd, though, I think: That they seem singularly – even a female (presumably, since she referred to her “husband”) to attack Michelle in a demeaning sexual manner or basis, rather than ideologically.
Insulting or threatening messages would be bad enough if they were coherent in the sense of disputing a point or taking issue with a particular position. But these were all just crude and vulgar, nothing but raw bigotry.
I suppose that’s just more evidence that these creeps really are sub-normal automatons, operating on some subliminal track that leaves rational thought to others. But it’s a little frightening to think we have to share the planet with so many of them.
Only fearful and angry cowards would resort to such antics! These people are of no significant intelligence or morality if this is the kind of response they give to those who have contrary views.
Absolute foolishness.
What is most interesting to me is that the hate mail that Michelle Malkin has been getting sheds light not only on the lack of manners among the left, but it also shows how many of them are truly racists at heart. They disagree with a Filipina, and they immediately use the most grotesque and degrading Filipino stereo-types they can come up with. Ann Coulter has pointed out how they do the same thing to Black Conservatives.
These people say nothing about Michelle Malkin, but speak volumes about what’s in their own hearts.
I can see why you La Shawn and Michelle are really upset with Mr. Williams. But as Michelle even stated herself she’s been getting emails like this for months.
Mr. Williams didn’t disclose. He admitted and apologized.
Now people have moved the goal posts and are saying his firm shouldn’t even have taken money. Well.. if we have that standard for Mr. Williams then the standard should be applied to EVERYONE.
The fact is that the government HAS paid many firms to MESSAGE and Mr. Williams can’t be held accountable because conservatives/libertarians don’t believe that money should be spent by the government. Sure WE ALL believe that the government should spend wisely and spend less.
The issue here is fairness to me. Do not move the goal posts for one person. Do not make Mr. Williams the REASON that Michelle and you get hate mail. Haters are the reason for your hate mail.
Liberals are the majority of conservatives. They will not argue with conservatives on substance but will deride you and call you names until they run out of breath.
It has happened to Clarence Thomas and Condaleeza Rice and JC Watts and Alan Keyes and will continue until liberals lose so bad that they realize that they have to take our message SERIOUSLY.
Where was Mr. Williams lying in the message?
I never said she wasn’t getting hate mail before AW, and neither did she, so I don’t understand your point on that. Everything else, I’m tired of talking about.
Hate mail! Yes sir, hate mail. It actually means something good to us. They wouldn’t write it if they didn’t think La Shawn or Michelle were making a difference with their blogs. If what La Shawn and Michelle write weren’t effective, they wouldn’t bother.
Jeff Mitchell
I took the time to e-mail Michelle and let her know I enjoyed her columns and blog and I hope that support her ( maybe not agree with her all the time ) will do the same. At least let’s tell her that not all people in this country are bigots.
Re your favicon:
Long live the Queen! =)
I was flabbergasted reading those e-mails. I would feel very unsafe after receiving those. She is COURAGEOUS.
The icon is perfect, nice touch! I belive Unrelated is spelled with an N, though. (Like I’ve never had a typo!)
Those emails just show the “hidden” racism that most of us know is there from that so called side of the spectrum that loves to help “the little man”. That side that claims to want diversity and equal opportunity for all and doesn’t have a prejudiced bone in their bodies but as we know and see here… piss them off and you go back to being “nigga”, whore, and all the other names they can pull out of the latest rap song playing on the radio.
They definitely prove they do fit a “stereotype” and can be lumped in to the “ignant” catgeory
It just shows that Michelle got to them, spoke some truth somewhere and they can not handle it (the same as when La Shawn gets attacked).
I don’t think it would be fair to simply demonize liberals. Several hundred FREEpers ganged up on liberal comedian Margaret Cho last year and used quite graphic and nasty language to describe her Asian heritage.
Racism is not exclusive of either political ideology.
The emails Malkin received are disgraceful.
True Mike (although according to the liberals the republicans have cornered the bigot market).
Some of those disgraceful emails “specifically” state her being against the so called “little man” (which gives one an idea of where the person “spectrum” is).
I like the new favicon. Let’s people know you are the Queen of this Castle
I echo Mike M.
Disgraceful seems too mild, but for the life of me I can’t think of a stronger term without sinking to their level. I am completely appalled. These are the folks who claim to want to discuss and debate issues, but as soon as you disagree with them, they have nothing intelligent to say. They have no idea how to rationally and intelligently discuss anything. It’s sad and a little frightening.
Love the new favicon and agree that it suits you.
It’s really hard to believe people have enough time and energy to hate with such venom someone they’ll never personally meet. What a waste!
I love the icon! I wondered how long it would take you (once on Firefox) to pick one up.
Long live the Queen!!!
Hi Andy! Are you back in the states?
Worse than disgraceful, just plain ugly. However considering the source(s), the posts say *much* more about the authors than the target. In fact, one’s enemies speak volumes of the quality of the person. Michelle is tops in my book, feisty, sharp and attractive in the bargain. (Unrepentant male chauvinist remark)
Back,
Back,
Back in the USA!!!
What should have normally been about a 2-leg 15-hour trip turned into a 3-leg’er and 23 hours. Oh well… At least I got a voucher for discounting my next flight and extra 800 FF miles.
Woohoo! Now I can get back into the blogmenting (is that a word for we who comment on blogs?) with relish.
I’m not seeing a favicon
I’m sure it’s cool, though!
You first have to bookmark/favorite the website, then refresh to see the favicon either on your tab or preceding the address in the address bar. You’ll also see it in your bookmark/favorite menu
Woo hoo hullaballoo! I wish I got hate mail like that. It’s like Wheaties for the soul.
La Shawn,
Michelle’s column starts out:
By Michelle Malkin
January 12, 2005 11:15 AM
My column today discusses the hidden impact that the Armstrong Williams/Dept. of Ed. scandal will have on minority conservatives:
This is why I wrote what I wrote La Shawn. It seems that this set of words that Michelle wrote right before the ugly emails that she showed us along with the words “hidden impact that the Armstrong Williams…. ” … and then the emails were also said by Michelle to have gone on for months (way before Mr. Williams).
I’m glad you are tired of the subject because on a scale of negative 10 to positive 10 I rate the story a negative 1. Mr. Williams didn’t disclose and he admitted and apologized.
Others want to now move the goal posts and say that Mr. Williams:
1) Shouldn’t have taken the money
2) Should’ve given it back (it was his firm that received it and Mr. Williams might have not gotten a raise (higher salary) from his firm in spite of the transaction)
3) Should admit to some sort of paid for opinion (it was his opinion before he received money – truly his own beliefs)
I see the daily set of lies that liberals give in the press on a daily basis a negative 2 through negative 5 (depending on the harm they are causing by saying it).
Mr. Williams has learned. I believe he will come back with a renewed sense of trust that he is speaking the truth and fully disclosing all of the time. Those are words that we could be writing.
One contrast I find amusing is the level of coverage over at Willis and other on this vs the Rather/CBS report. Just a slight divide between right and left leaning blogs.
To Andy, re: the bookmark: Thanks for the tip! Shoulda known that – my brian is sort of on auto pilot today, though
Sheesh – as a testament to my brain being on auto-pilot please note the “brian” typo in my above post
Baklava: Can’t remember where but in an interview, Mr. Williams said that he is the owner and/or CEO of the firm that received the money from the Ed. Dept.
You can see the favicon without bookmarking the site if you’re using Mozilla or Firefox (and, if you aren’t, why not?), especially if you’re using tabbed browsing.
Very nice!
Favicon doesn’t seem to be showing up . . . I”m using Safari.
I assume the Southern Poverty Law Center will now investigate the people who sent hate mail to Michelle Malkin, and have them charged with a hate crime, right? At least that is what they do to normal Americans who speak their mind.
I am also sure Karen Narasaki, president of the National Coalition of Asians and Pacific Americans, will publicly condem this hate mail, right?
I read some of the emails, and it doesn;t surprise me in the least. These people haven’t got a brain, they don’t know how to discuss issues in a straightforward manner, so they reduce themselves to the level of depravity that they are. And remember, these are the people that referred to what Trent Lott said, as “hate speech”. Interesting, when the shoe is on the other foot
(this does not concern, btw, whether I agree or not with any of Malkin´s political views – it´s a reflection on her hate mail).
Very visible how the main type of slur is to call her a prostitute or whore. When liberals/lefties want to attack conservative minority men, however, they usually don´t call them whores. (albeit now, after the C-BS scandas, it seems the term media whore is becoming quite in vogue, but related to MSM gripes).
Quick reflections:
1) Lefties/liberals show their ingrained sexism for attacking women and not men like this.
2) Liberals are mostly too unethical and too violent to criticize prostitution systems, so why should they use the concept of “prostitute” as a slur? If they think a woman prostituting herself is such a bad thing (look how they chose to call Malkin), why do they hire so many prostitutes themselves and keep this system going worldwide?
3) I would love to do a statistical study of the political bent of pimps in the US and around the world. (liberal/conservative, left/right wing)
4) Do I need to mention that most pimps who exploit and torture women are also pro-homosexual? Ah, the attitudes of these progressive people…
To be fair, several of these criticisms can be applied to a portion of conservatives (have no idea in what proportion).
Evon wrote, “Baklava: Can’t remember where but in an interview, Mr. Williams said that he is the owner and/or CEO of the firm that received the money from the Ed. Dept.”
My point exactly Evon. I am the owner of my Coporation also. My revenue differs from month to month. But I haven’t given myself a raise since the inception of my company. Nobody knows if Mr. Williams actually himself actually got more money out of the deal that his company struck. His company has other expenses that has already been expended on. To call for Mr. Williams to give the money back and/or other double-standards that aren’t applied to others who have received money from the government for messaging (remember the issue was disclosure not receiving) would be almost impossible without making his company cough up money that’s already been spent or making Mr. Williams pay something that he may have not received ten cents more in salary for than the previous months or years.
I love the favicon but guess what I don’t like it. Queens in today’s world are figureheads with no power.
I think you should be President. Or a governor. Or the Secretary of State. Welll… Condaleeza Rice will do for that one.
Regarding M.M.’s hate mail…
This is such a silly non-issue. I no doubt believe that most high-profile conservative bloggers get reams of vicious, cowardly hate mail from cretins on the extreme left… but certainly the same happens to high-profile liberal bloggers who get vicious, cowardly hate-mail from trolls on the extreme right… Each side has its share of uncouth, uncivilized nut-jobs…
If you’re a blogger, stop whining about it and deal with it… otherwise, stop blogging.
What is appaling, however, is when Ms. Malkin uses said examples of hate-mail as somehow representative of mainstream liberals… I’ve noticed that the vast majority of comments on this blog make the same utterly foolish leap in logic… extrapolating the actions of the extreme onto the mainstream…
If high-profile liberal bloggers starting posting all the hate mail they receive and then opined that this is representative of all conservatives, you would be extremely agitated and would rightly call foul…
Ms. Malkin is obviously intelligent and witty… she MUST know this… so I can only assume she does this to drum up sympathy from the partisans on the right…
The comments were not comments. They were not attacks. They were assaults. If addressed in public, or on air, they could have been considered criminal.
Such verbal assaults should not be dignified by publication, even on a website!
She sure has my sympathy.
If there is a crown image somewhere on your page, my computer does not display it. I’m sure it’s lovely.
Jab:”Regarding M.M.’s hate mail…This is such a silly non-issue.”
It is an issue Jab to the degree many, in including me, did not realize just how vulgar, disgusting, and threatening hate mail can get.
Even though it was difficult to read, I’m glad Michelle choose to post some of it and La Shawn brought it to our attention on her popular site.
Now we have real insight into what bloggers mean when they talk about ‘hate mail’. Unfortunately I wouldn’t call some of it ‘hate’, I would call it ‘assalt mail’.
I think there ought to be a site that bloggers and others can report this kind of verbal assault trash mail to for public listing, along with all the info the blogger has about them; names, ip addresses, etc. etc., so others can automatically block them from their blog and email in advance. Is there such a concentration site somewhere already, anybody?

Yeah, http://www.fbi.gov
Jim R.: Too right. That she or any other high profile person would get hate mail, and that some of it would be sexist or racist doesn’t shock me. But the sheer amount of hate and labor some of these people put into it… that shocked me.
Russell: I agree with you as well. I certainly hope Mrs. Malkin passed on some or all of these to the FBI or other law enforcement groups. I can see ignoring a short “you should die” email, but these ‘people’ go far beyond a thoughtless FU post.
Michelle deserves what she gets for that hate-mongering. She says disrespectful things about whole groups of people as well as individuals. I say if she can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen, but the way the repubs made death threats against MLK Jr.
