Well, it’s noon time here in Philly, and the snow has begun. Luckily, lots of people took the rail or just skipped coming in, so the roads have been pretty clear.
I give it until 3:30 or when the snow sticks to the pavement before I will bug-out and head back to Blue Jersey.

When I was a kid going to school in Fairfax County Public Schools, I loved the fact that D.C. would practically shut down with any sort of accumulation.

Now – as an ADULT living in San Diego – I can still appreciate the snowfall accumulation in D.C. since it doesn’t really affect me…..;)

Ha. You should see what a little snow does in Alabama. One inch is considered a heavy storm here; we get that much and everything is shut down for two days.

One good thing about a snowstorm in the DC area is that the government will shut down and that is a good thing.

But c’mon 6 inches of snow ? To shut an entire city down that sounds to me like a bit of overreaction.

I lived in D.C. (well, northern Virginia) during the paralyzing storm of ‘79, when the federal government announced that only “essential” workers should show up for their jobs. There will probably be a similar edict today, which leads to the same question now that I had then: why are those who are not “essential” on the payroll in the first place?

I dont know if I already asked but are you posting about Tavis Smiley’s state of the black union forum. It was on c span. I think there was a lot of material for you to work with. Of course he had lots of left leaning questions and panelists: feminists, gays, union workers, democrats, jesse jackson, al sharpton…

In Colorado, with our relatively mild Januaries and Februaries, we always snicker as the Eastern Seaboard gets it. Of course, when we get clobbered in March and April (and, heaven forbid, May) I consider moving.

Denver is well prepared for snowstorms. I am not. I do not like it.

You’re from DC? Well, God bless you. No wonder you sound so cynical at times.

Born in DC, raised in PG. I’m cynical to the bone.

If you think DC and the environs are bad in a ’snowstorm’, try Baltimore, where I lived for 11 years. It can take weeks to get a snow plow to less favored neighborhoods. O’Malley may be a good figurehead, but he hasn’t figured how to get Baltimore into the 21st Century.
(I actually loved Baltimore and especially the people there, but it is a moneypit, sucking it in and nothing coming out.)

Ah the joys of staying at home, and getting paid for it. I have little over 60 hours of vacation time, and the only time I use them is on snow days…. let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
