On TV?

Be careful what you wish for…

I’m here at home on a “snow day” in DC catching up on personal work. I check my blog to see if commenters are behaving themselves, and I followed Political Teen’s trackback link. He writes:

On today’s Connected: Coast to Coast, they mentioned a few bloggers and one of their posts. One of them was La Shawn Barber’s Chris Rock complaint (and boy is she right).

I play the video he links to, and I hear Buzz Machine’s Jeff Jarvis mention my name and see a screen shot of my blog.

It dawns on me to turn my telephone on and check the messages. (I turn off the phone when I’m working. Bad move!) I’ve got a message from a producer at MSNBC inviting me to appear on Wednesday’s show. They’re doing a segment on women bloggers. The show is Connected Coast to Coast with Monica Crowley, one of my favorite conservatives. Oh, Ron Reagan’s hosting, too.

Finally, women bloggers other than Wonkette are being invited to do talking head shows. I left the producer a message, and I hope it’s not too late. Although the thought of being on TV is frightening, I think I’m ready. Maybe.

By the way, I said “Yes!”

Addition: While I was at CPAC the other week, the same producer e-mailed and asked me to appear on a show to talk about Karl Rove’s speech, which I didn’t hear, so I couldn’t do it. I asked her to contact me again if the right opportunity came up. I’ll let you know date and time tomorrow if confirmed.

Update (3/1): A slightly modified version of the post God and Man at CPAC is posted at Townhall.com.

Update II: According to Hugh Hewitt, the God blogging conference is still on:

GodBlogCon I is now on for October 13-15, 2005, on the campus of Biola University in La Mirada, California, under the guidance of Dr. John Mark Reynolds. Very good news indeed. I’ll post more info as it becomes available, but save the dates.

I will blog about the conference and what led up to it later. Smart Christian has more information.

You? On TV? Go for it! I’d love to see more people on the tube that mirror my point of view!

YAYYY CONGRATS you were also mentioned on Judy Woodrufs inside politics. they showed a shot of your blog noting you were a conservative blogger who gave a negative review of chris rock’s oscar hosting but admitted you didn’t watch it. about wonkette, me too. every panel or invite i see about blogs i see wonkette and i get sick of her. the first time i went on her blog was the last there was a picture of breasts.

Can’t wait!

Congrats La Shawn,

I’m sure you’ll be ready. Let us know all the details so we know when to watch. I’m sure you’ll do a great job.

From my experience, it helps to think of the camera as the face of a friend you know well and think of yourself as having a conversation with just the folks there with you. If possible get there early and become familiar with set and joke around with the host(s) to set yourself at ease.

When I did that it made me feel like I was just hanging out with friends. Everything went smoothly after that – no nervousness at all.

Enjoy the experience and afterwards sit back and reap the benefits. Impress your friends; frustrate your enemies :)

Wooo, and indeed, Hooooo!!

You are so much more worthy than that wonky person.

mikem 03.01.05 at 5:34 am

Congratulations and I agree with your remark “finally…besides Wonkette”. I read a lot of blogs, mostly male though not deliberately, and it seems unquestionably old school sexist that Wonkette is the only female blogger I have seen or heard about being on the broadcast medium. If I was in any way a feminist woman I would have been screaming bloody murder at such a choice as representative of women bloggers.

Fausta 03.01.05 at 6:48 am

Congratulations! It was about time Wonkette, the Paris Hilton of bloggers, met the Condoleezza of bloggers!

Renee 03.01.05 at 7:11 am

Very cool La Shawn. Congrats

Nice column at Townhall. Keep living the Truth.

Dan 03.01.05 at 9:09 am

LaShawn,

You’re intelligent, articulate, engaging, polite, AND good looking! You’re more than ready…It’s past time you should be on the TV speaking intelligently to the issues of the day and putting things in perspective that Man has skewed. I truly believe God speaks thru you, and has much in store for you. God bless and keep up the good work.

I went off on a bit of a rant about women in the blogosphere last night. I’d been stewing it over for a few weeks but a piece on NPR yesterday claiming that women only get attention in the blogosphere by being raunchy set me off. Here’s the url:

FL Mom 03.01.05 at 10:13 am

Congrats, LaShawn! *does a happy dance*

That’s great, La Shawn! Hope it wasn’t too late!

LaShawn, Good Luck on TV, I’m sure you’ll do well. You have talent. Trust God to guide your words.

Stephen D. Oliver 03.01.05 at 12:07 pm

I’m glad you are invited to speak! You can explode the myth of the “conservative blogger” and show them what a CHRISTIAN blogger is!

Congrats LSB. While there is no such thing as bad publicity, this is certainly good pub for you. Keep up the good work, and watch out for the curve balls. Even though Chris Matthews took the name, they all play the same game when it comes to us.

I’m sure you’ll be batting 1.000!

RedBeard 03.01.05 at 12:55 pm

A smart, well-informed, moral, conservative lady on TV? What are you trying to do, ruin everything the Hedonistic Left has worked so hard to built up over the last few decades?

Works for me.

Stacy L. Harp 03.01.05 at 1:01 pm

Funny you should mention tv, just last night when I was watching Scarborough Country I told my husband that I wished LaShawn was on giving her view! :) I’d love it !

Mark La Roi 03.01.05 at 1:05 pm

Excellent!

E.M. Zanotti 03.01.05 at 1:39 pm

Awesome! Finally, they’re acknowledging that Wonkette doesn’t represent female bloggers. You are the best. Congratulations!

E.M.

Alessandra 03.02.05 at 4:30 pm

Very good. We need blogsphere women who aren’t the vulgar Wonkettes to appear in the media.

Reflections as to why Wonkette draws such an audience at:
