Update II (3/5): I’m still soliciting questions for an interview with a volunteer pilot for the Minuteman Project. I may also get to talk to Jim Gilchrist, head of the project. You may e-mail your questions or leave a comment.

La Reconquista!
I consider George Bush Mexico’s greatest friend. Not only does he refuse to do his job and tighten up or CLOSE the southern border (which Middle Eastern men have been caught crossing along with Mexicans), he announces to the whole world that illegal immigrants in our country will NOT face jail or deportation but will be rewarded with an invitation to stay! With a prize like that, what’s to stop people from other countries from sneaking in?
Bush and his boys, with their ivory tower mentalities, are likely unaffected by the burden placed on our country as millions of Mexicans disperse across our land. What’s been really bothering me lately is old ladies being searched in airports, while terrorists, laughing at our stupidity, are walking right across the border.
Last week I wrote about a group of American volunteers called the Minuteman Project. They’re resolved to do what their country refuses to do to stop the scourge of illegal immigration, which is breaking government schools and our healthcare system. I won’t even mention the proliferation of Mexican gangs and the number of illegal aliens in our prison system. They all just come here to work, right?
The American volunteers will stand watch over part of the Arizona-Mexico border to deter potential lawbreakers from crossing. Contrary to what naysayers think these men won’t be shooting border-jumpers.
I got angry when I read this story. This is how bold the enemy is, and yes, I consider Mexico an enemy of this country. The Mexican government plans to sue American citizens for protecting their own country! Do you comprehend the madness here? Please don’t let it be lost on you.
Mexico is working with traitors in California to find some kind of legal challenge to the Minuteman Project. After I calm down, I will interview a man who says he’s a volunteer pilot for the project. Along with my questions, I’ll take questions from readers. Please leave your questions in the comments, and I’ll select a few to forward.
Visit the Minuteman Project’s site. Also see the Immigration category for more information.
Malkin on the connection between illegal immigration and terrorism.
Update: I have a feeling Kevin Drum won’t like my interview with one of the Minuteman Project volunteers. I wonder if I can get him to link to it even if he hates it…

Bush is totally out of touch. He probably has lots of friends who employ lots of illegal people and who have business relationships with Mexico. The people who are anti-borders and pro-illegal Mexican immigration are those who employ them, make a living from them, or are descendents of them (ie, their mom jumped over the border in time.)
“Contrary to what naysayers think these men won’t be shooting border-jumpers.”
What are they going to do? ask them to go away? You know if foreigners don’t understand you, it means that you should speak louder.
My single biggest complaint about George Bush is his blindness, deliberate or ignorant, to this problem.
Illegal immigrants….. hmmmm….. I wonder what the word “illegal” means….. could it be, oh, I don’t know, maybe that they’re doing stuff that’s AGAINST THE LAW? Good grief. Mr. Bush, this just isn’t a difficult issue to understand. It’s going to be difficult to fix, yes, but the issue is really simple. Close the door to illegals, and send the criminals packing who are here already here.
Don’t count on the Supreme Court to protect Americans from Illegal aliens.
Their recent decision on capital punishment says theat boys are not responsible for their actions in cold blooded murder, but girls are responsible when they have abortions without parental advice.
At least AR had the courage to deny “benefits” like in state tuition for illegals; Tesas, in contrast, is too far gone. And their economy reflects this.
Good question, actus! I’ll forward it to the interviewee.
Thanks for posting this La Shawn. This is a slap in the face to ALL Americans. Of course, the media doesn’t inform us of this in their headlines. Instead it is more important to watch Martha getting released from priosn, or hearing about how it is ok to sleep with young kids from Michael… all the while our borders are being violated.
Great post LaShawn…..I can never understand the lack of political will on both sides in America to stop this invasion……and you are absolutely CORRECT in saying that Mexico is the enemy..from the govt. to the masses which are indoctrinated it seems with hatred and jealously of prosperous and Free America!
As a Albertan and Canadian, it is my goal one day to become an American because of what is happening in Canada…….but you can be sure, I will be choosing the legal means to do so….probably will take a lot longer but at least I will be satisfied I did things correctly and honestly!!

Like LaShawn, I can’t figure out why the Pres. is so goofy on illegal immigration. It’s so opposite of the rest of his foreign policy stance. Maybe living all those years in TX made him forget that Mexico is a foreign country.
I’d like to submit a question:
Besides writing to our legislators, what more can individuals do to get the President to see that amnesty and all this other nonsense is bad for the U.S. and that U.S. citizens don’t want it?
FL Mom, I think the best course of action is through Congress. James Sensenbrenner’s office would be a good place to start, even if he’s not your representative. He is leading the charge to stop this nonsense. His office could point you in the right direction regarding how to help.
Rights?? of Illegal aliens? What color is the sky in your world?
In matters of immigration, I’m deeply disappointed in W’s Presidency. If there were an issue which could cause me to bolt the camp, this is it. He seems to appreciate the threat of terrorism, but is oblivious to the stupid situation at our borders.
OK. Heres my two cents worth. I am going to try to defend
Pres. Bush here. But first let me re-state that without massive
deportation of illegals the US lays no claim to the “rule of law!”
I read something Pat Buchannon wrote during his last pres.
bid. He said that upon election, all US Presidents learn the real
truth about social security. That there is NOTHING there! As the birthrate of citizens fails to keep up with the death rate, the
ONLY soultion was to begin taxing someone else. Immigrants!
And where are they coming from?
I have much respect for this President and I don’t believe that he would do Anything to cause harm to this Country. If President Bush keeps bewildreing us with his positions on Mexico, the truth might be actually worse than we have been told. Greenspan said this week that SS/Medicare are in real trouble.
I think perhaps President Bush’s best bet would be to come
clean on the reality of these “Ponzi” schemes and begin the process of killing them.
Being an irate troll who writes in caps and forgets her manners in someone else’s “house” is no way to go through life, dear girl. Take a pill. You’ll feel better in the morning - Admin
I’m very concerned about this “Guest Worker” thing.
If illegals are allowed to stay and work under “Guest Worker”, would that also give them the right to form their own Unions?
Asking for trouble.
New Recruits:
…..The United Farm Workers Union, and MeCHa, are just waiting, right at the border to sign them up.
The State of California has even declared Cesar Chavez Day a State holiday, (March 28)….. in honor of that leftist labor thug—–Cesar Chavez—they consider him to be a hero.
excerpted from the article in the North County Times online:
Francisco Loureira, a migrant rights activist who manages a shelter in Nogales, across from Nogales, Arizona, said he plans to distribute maps alerting migrants to the presence of the volunteers.
“The least we can do is prevent them from crossing where these anti-migrant people will be,” Loureira said.
Can you say “ABSURD”?!! First of all, these people coming into our country are not “migrants” - they’re ILLEGAL ALIENS, who don’t belong here. Secondly - “anti-migrant[s]“?? How ’bout “Pro-American”!

“The American Southwest seems to be slowly returning to the jurisdiction of Mexico without firing a single shot”—-Excelsior, The national newspaper of Mexico
“Republica del Norte, Republic of the North, which would include the present U.S. states of California, Arizona, New Mexica, Texas, plus southern Colorado along with several current Mexican states, is an inevitability. The new Hispanic Homeland should be brought into being by any means necessary.” —-Charles Truxillo, Professor, University of New Mexico
“We are politicizing every single one of these new citizens that are becoming citizens of this country. I gotta tell you a lot of people are saying, ‘I’m going to go out there and vote because I want to pay them back.’” —-Gloria Molina, Los Angeles County Supervisor
I agree LaShawn, that the President seems to be clueless about the immigration threat. However, as someone said earlier, there are probably other motives. Wait, I know! It’s oil. Mexico has oil. We need oil. It’s all so clear now.
Maybe Halliburton has some plants on the border.
I thought this guy was a conservative. The left has two valid (IMAO) complaints about him - unbridled (till now) spending and the borders. Maybe the spending was to get everyone to want fiscal restraint. Maybe the borders thing is an attempt to get the White House and Congress flooded with emails from those who want this nonsense controlled as well.
Who can say
How about we allow immigration (legal) when our unemployment reaches 0%. Then we will need people to fill jobs.
“I won’t even mention the proliferation of Mexican gangs” Michelle Malkin did in todays Washington Times commentary section, article titled Gang Land.
We already have many cities that print signs in Spanish and / or Arabic. How come my ancestors could learn English, but today no immigrant can? Take our boys out of the Middle East and let them protect our border.
Take our boys out of the Middle East and let them protect our border.
I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with you on this. Put more of our boys on the border, but leave the rest to finish what we started in the Middle East.
La Shawn–
I think that when looking at the problem of illegal immigration, we need to address the problem, not just the symptoms.
The simple answer — for me, at least — is that we should open our markets completely to goods made abroad so that people there can make a decent living. This will decrease the attraction that the US poses for people who are living hopeless and desperate lives in those countries.
When looking at what we should do about illegal aliens once they are here, we should try to imagine that we are one of them. I can well imagine myself as a Third World guy paying all my assets so that my family could have a chance at a decent life in the US. I can also easily conceive of coming illegally since legal entry can be nearly impossible. So I really think we have to have compassion for such individuals.
On the other hand, this country cannot simply open its borders to all who wish to come here. That would put too much pressure on our welfare system and over-tax our citizenry. So, I guess, I come back to saying that we should embrace free trade as a way of keeping prospective immigrants happy where they are.
Pat’sRick? that’s sort of my thinking regarding George Bush the poker player.
Rather than stand against illegal immigration and have the debate dragged into yet another leftist/global tirade about how wicked he is, why not save the political capital and rope-a-dope it instead.
Points to consider in a W really wants what’s best for America scenario:
1)He’s a lame duck
2)Instead of fighting, accelerating the impending threat is an effective strategy
3)Let the people rise up in anger rather than championing their cause and allowing them to just sit back not expressing themselves.
At least I hope that is the tact that Bush is taking. Makes it hard for the Dems to demonize when they’re taking heat from the people. Only jeopardy I see is it also makes it hard for Bush to get in front of it leagacy-wise. Also, personally, I’m not sure if I’d want to make the Dems “responsive”, thus enabling them to survive another election for the wrong reason.
Call me a political slash & burner, but I’d rather draw the line and challenge the Dems to pick a side and consequently risk losing their next election by letting the people see who is pro vs anti. But, perhaps that is Bush’s design to be a uniter & not a divider. Risky to say the least in my POV, by giving the likes of Boxer to do the “right thing” ands thus surviving another election.
The national guard is under state control.
States on the southern border should be calling out the n.g.
“I got angry when I read this story. This is how bold the enemy is, and yes, I consider Mexico an enemy of this country. The Mexican government plans to sue American citizens for protecting their own country! Do you comprehend the madness here? Please don’t let it be lost on you.”
Ay Caramba!
Yet, my B-I-L, an Australian national, married (in the U.S.) to a citizen of the U.S., whose children are also citizens of the U.S., working for the U.K. division of a U.S. company, got held up in INS when he recently came (with my sister & their kids) here on a visit. Fortunately, the INS folks were very nice, gave him some good advice, and allowed him entry to our fair land, delaying him about an hour.
The agent’s advice was to renew his green card while he was here, rather than in the U.K. It took him half a day here; it would have taken six months overseas.
I suspect that Bush understands that “The System” manufactured by “progressive” courts makes enforcement of immigration laws impossible. The requirement that illegals be given full access to the courts before they can be sent back is impossible to meet without massive increases in holding facilities and courts. 2000 more agents on the border when 90% of their arrests are released? Forget it. Give Bush honest judges and we can take care of eh rest of our problems with reasonable laws and judgements. Without them, that’s what we have.
Thanks for the suggestion, RedBeard.
And about the oil, Mexico is already our #2 supplier (Canada’s #1, Venezuela’s #3). I might have #2 and #3 transposed, but you get the idea. Middle Eastern countries supply about 27%. We’d have a more useful domestic production if the environuts and their laws didn’t choke all our refineries. One thing that aggravates me about the whole ‘guest worker’ thing is that it doesn’t put the squeeze on Mexico to move up in the world and become an economic power like the U.S. or Japan.
“We’d have a more useful domestic production if the environuts and their laws didn’t choke all our refineries. ”
Refining is different than drilling. A lot of Venezuelan oil is refined in Louisiana.
FL Mom’s point still stands, we’d have better domestic production if our refineries weren’t choked by environnuts. To wit the mess CA is in

Mara Salvatruchas to take on the Minutemen vigilantes
Posted by RedGirl1 on 2005/3/2 18:17:53
by Ernesto Cienfuegos
It looks like there is going to be a “showdown at OK corral” on April 1st in Tombstone, Arizona. A high level leader of the Mara Salvatruchas, Ebner Anivel Rivera-Paz, has issued orders, from federal prison, to members of his extremely violent organization to teach the Minutemen vigilantes a lesson they will never forget, La Voz de Aztlan has learned.
The Mara Salvatruchas (MS-13) are a consequence of USA policies in Central America and are just another example of “the chickens coming home to roost”. Its members are the sons of immigrants from El Salvador and other Central American countries that were forced to flee because of the CIA instigated war during the Reagan Administration that completely destroyed the physical, economic, social, religious and cultural infrastructure of the region. MS-13 was founded in Los Angeles by the offspring of the immigrants for protection. Later, many of the members were deported back to Central America where they expanded their operations and joined up with former members of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) .
Today, the Mara Salvatruchas have grown immensely in numbers and their network has expanded through Mexico all the way to Canada. The extremely violent group controls large portions of the drug, stolen vehicle and immigrant smuggling operations along the US/Mexico border and will not put up with clowns like the Minutemen vigilantes. The amateurish Minutemen may be in for a big surprise on April Fools Day and on the subsequent days that they plan to patrol the border with Mexico in Arizona. The Mara Salvatruchas are known to cut the “testicles” of their enemies and feed them to their vicious dogs. Other times they have cut the heads off their opponents to play football soccer with them. These are not people to mess around with.
There is a good probability that very few cowardly Minutemen vigilantes will show up on April 1st in Tombstone, Arizona. The principal imbeciles organizing the event are known to be mere loudmouths. The morons think that they will be just having “some fun in the sun” hunting down defenseless Mexican migrant workers but instead may meet up with the devil himself. Satan has a very warped sense of humor and April 1st would be an excellent day to express it.
Americans for Legal Immigration
I agree with an earlier comment: I can understand why people from third world countries want to come here illegally–I’ve been to several poor countries, and have seen the misery. But also remember that they see Hollywood images of wealthy lives, and it looks a lot better than their hovels. And they’ve got all those kids to feed…
Americans for LEGAL Immigration is a wonderful sounding group name. I presume that one of the founding principles is the steadfast opposition to ILLEGAL immigration.
Good article, LaShawn. My only two comments are the Minutemen aren’t the first - check out the American Border Patrol (http://www.americanpatrol.com/), and secondly, the President is not permitted to choose which laws he will defend. It is his duty to defend them ALL, including the security of our borders. If we have another major terrorist attack, the President, in my opinion, would be liable for impeachment for failure to enforce the laws of this nation, and deservedly so.
Lashawn , one other point I think some of the conservatives and especially the silly left forget that Clintion when he passed NAFTA and GATT that made our illegal problems even worse. That was some of the Stupidest piece of legislation that was ever passed. And this President refuses to do anything about it.
Here’s the issue as I see it. We all know that the left controls big media, right? We also all know that a favorite tactic of the left is to make everything a “racist” issue. So if GWB started securing our borders, suddenly the entire old media would start screaming “racism”! (In fact, they already have!) What’s a fellow to do? That’s why the blogs are so important!
The Republican party is traditionally a pro-business anti-labor party. Our President is loathe to stop a low wage labor supply to business, and until he starts enforcing immigration law at the business source, no amount of enforcement at the border can stop poor people from crossing the border illegally to take advantage of what is high wages for them.
You have heard his words as have I regarding this.
Quote “I believe in matching an employer with a willing worker for those jobs they can’t fill with American workers.” Well of course, if the job wage is set to discourage an American worker and attract a third world worker, the employer will discover he can’t find a match in America, no. Yes
This is political speak for:
“I want a cheap labor supply for business(GNP) growth at labors’ wage and tax expense. The red state conservatives will still vote Republican.”
“There is a political up-side for the party not to offend the Latino vote in tight elections. The red state conservatives will still vote Republican.”
“The dear heart Democrats want to support these poor folk at American labors’ wage and tax expense too, so they won’t criticize my lax enforcement of immigration laws, excellent. The red state conservatives will still vote Republican.”
“Let the conservative laborers drink the pro-business trickle down. They really have no other choice, now do they.”
when i was in elementary school in california a school in the district was named caesar chavez i never knew who he was i just knew he was some mexican dude about some farmers i guess. the school and community was overrun with mexicans they dont want to learn english or assimilate they are not down and out being taken advantage of in farms they have connections in social services they get acceess to all of the program that poor blacks dont even know about they own homes drive nice cars can afford to send their kids to private schools. i saw one mexican dad in a store with a big wad of cash and food stamps. dont let anyone fool you these people arent stupid they have friends in government and i have seen the thigns they get. they work in construction, food service, in teh school district, all jobs americans want to do. why is bush not looking out for those ameriecans who just want a better life, its sad. why is no one not telling vicinte fox tohelp his own people out. i usually dont watch oprah but one day she had thirty year old women from arund the world on and she had a mexican woman. she was dressed all nicely she was skinny and talking about how she just goes shopping and that americans work too much well that made me mad, why isnt she helping out those poor “migrants” who the USA is forced to care for. And does anyone not realize that these people are not only Mexicans illegal aliens come from everywhere around the world its like bush wants us to be hit again
“Babylon the great is falling”
Lashawn…I apologise for the rant but I just don’t like someone trying to discourage us from protecting ourselves by bringing up some lame gang threat.
Thanks, Andy.
Yes, actus, I know drilling and refining are two different things. I also know that even if oil flowed by the trillions of gallons from mountain streams, it would be useless and horribly expensive without an ample number of non-overregulated refineries to process it. Thanks for the point about Venezuela/Louisiana, though. I’ll add that to my list of “stuff about oil.”
We need to keep the two issues, illegals and border security, separate. The overriding issue at the moment is security, in light of potential terrorist crossings. Pres. Bush not putting troops at the border since 9-11 is the most irresponsible and treasonous action by a president in my lifetime. It defies political labels. If Republicans are serious about controlling illegal immigration then they must put into place and enforce draconian measures, which harshly punish the employers who hire them. I know of Somalis, who regularly present themselves at Tijuana as “refugees” even though they are not. How much easier for actual terrorists to slip through into CA or AZ. Given the actions of Pres. Reagan and Pres. Bush regarding the illegals issue, how can conservatism even mean anything any more? Perhaps totally new definitions or labels are in order.
We must recognize we are in a real war. Our federal government is deliberately allowing another country to invade our borders. It’s not an armed invasion (although I read that many are armed), but it’s an invasion and must be stopped. I know it will require direct and harsh force that the piss ants in Washington will never release.
What we need is a militia and an active reserve officer corps that can train and educate its members in the proper use of arms and self-protection techniques against foreign and internal enemies. I do not fear the external as much as the internal.
I know, in my heart, that I can take 2 companies of the worst we could train in 10 days and stop this invasion within 120 days. There may be a bit of blood and guts here and there but, at the end of the day, those bastards will know how and why my 4 great grandfathers and 2 great, great grandfathers kicked the asses of a bunch of goddamn Yankees who also invaded our homeland. (A little incentive, like a fat cash bonus for every head shot at 500 yards with open sights, goes a long way to producing quick results. At one time, I could make that shot and on a windy day!)
How do militias differ from the military? There is a strong distinction to be understood between the goals of “The Military” and the “Militia”. The armed forces of a nation have as their mission the goals of the government. We are led to think that the goals of the government are an expression of the will of the people. It is clear from any examination of history that this is rarely true. The goals of the military are in reality established by deeply entrenched power structures behind the government, which more often than not do not have the well-being of the people as their primary objective, although we have been led to believe that is the motive.
John Adams is supposed to have said: “It is freedom, gentlemen. It is freedom and not a choice of the forms of servitude for which we contend. We entertain no jealousy of the present Congress, but who knows but in some future corrupt times there may be a Congress which may form a design upon the liberties of the people. And will it be difficult to execute such a design when they have absolute command of the navy, the army, and the purse?”
Well gentlemen, we have given the country over to George W. and his cowardly, corrupt supporters who will stop at nothing to weaken us more. Due to foolish little “red state†men, they do own the purse and our military. They will encourage the Wetbacks to continue to come and with open arms. In addition, they will continue to give away our jobs to foreign countries in order to enrich a relatively few international companies that are owned, in large part, by non-US citizens.
We need a militia, because, as those bastard Republicans so often tell us, “The private economy can do a better job than government bureaucrats.â€
All of those who think that illegal immigrants should go back to their native country, I want to see you guys pick strawberries in the fields in hot weather for two dollars an hour, and see if you really want to do their jobs. They are not taking jobs from rightful caucasians, they are taken jobs that no one wants and will do. Instead of being ungrateful because there are illegals in this “great country” you should be grateful to pay $.99 for a box of strawberries. You say that they are commiting illegal acts, when we live in a society that is drawn to commiting illegal acts. Is it not hypocritical. Americans feel sympathy for those who are in the eastern hemisphere but screw those who are in neighboring countries and are persecuted and starving. Hypocrities synonymous of Americans.
I don’t care what I have to pay for strawberries. I’m certain that once the cheap labor is unavailable, the market will re-adjust itself. Illegal aliens, non-citizens, are breaking the backs of Americans, and I will speak out and write about it as much and as loudly as I want to. I’m sympathetic to AMERICANS FIRST.
Clinics is CA are closing left and right because of the burden placed on them by illegal aliens with no insurance, for example. I sympathize with Americans who now have fewer healthcare options. Government schools, as bad as they were before, have gotten worse thanks to poor English-speaking students. I sympathize with Americans who have little choice but to send their kids to rotten government schools.
And “Caucasians” aren’t the only ones falling under your warped definition of ungrateful. This Negro is ungrateful, too, “Cruz.”
