La Shawn,

Bravo Zulu and Well Done! You did exceptionally well. As for the hair and lipstick.....looked perfect to me.

Just to give you a data point. In my last command we had two Petty Officers that were both over 6' and pushing 230 each-with about 10% body fat. There were powerlifters and were built like the "demon dogs" from Ghostbusters. They escorted their shipmates to, during, and from Captain's Mast (Non Judicial Punishment; AKA NJP). We NEVER had a problem with anyone to be sure. They were also great to go on Liberty with from Thailand to Spain. No one ever wanted to start a fight.

No one wants a 5' tall, 50+ year old grandmother protecting you in a potential bar fight in a foreign port, much less protect you from a violent, kidnapping rapist.

Anyway, you did a great job and had your feet firmly planted in reality.

one man's opinion,

I recently took an online test regarding easily confused words. You should try it (I linked to it from "Queen of All Evil"). My comment on this is prompted by your use of the word "flea" (a parasitic insect) for the word "flee" (to run away).

When the female cop (what was her name again?) interrupted me after she was allowed to speak freely, I had to contain my irritation. I don't want to come off as a shrew or a shouting talking head.

You did very well. "If I could continue UNinterrupted..." Priceless.

Mistake: I said "politically correct" twice when I actually meant "politically incorrect".

We knew exactly what you were talking about. I was cheering, anyway...

La Shawn,

You look better every time you are on TV! As Indigo Insights is quoted as saying, "too cute to be staying indoors blogging".

Now this is a subject of which I have a great deal of experience, knowledge, and strong opinions about. I will Email you with what I have to say about it, as it will take too much room for comments. Let me just say up front that you are much closer to the truth about law enforcement than the NY State Courts Officer, who was obviously more interested in preserving political correcteness.

Of course, she outlined NYSCPD's procedures, which are similar to those most departments follow, and which would have compensated for the physical disparity between the injured officer and Nichols, but she avoided addressing the issue at hand, which was gender and the question of physical size and strength disparity between officers and suspects.

I'm sorry I didn't get to see you on MSNBC this evening. As for your cable connection. You might want to purchase PDANet for your Treo. It will allow you to connect to the internet using your Treo as a modem. Good for those rare time the cable modem is down or when you're on the road and wireless is not available.

LaShawn--when your computer konks out, you should go to a friend's house or the library or an internet cafe. Or, if you have an Apple store where you live, you can go there for free internet access.

When cops make a field arrest, there are always at least 2, and they cuff everyone, or at least everyone who might be in the slightest considered dangerous or a flight risk.

At a more "sexist" level, I don't believe women on average are able to think in a way which evalutes the possible tactics and threat of a captive, a warring enemy, or a cornered prey. It's always a life or death situation - which evolution has largely excluded women from having to deal with. The mind is not a "blank slate".

La Shawn came across very well. I'd never seen or heard her before. But I'm very concerned that she is being typecast as a black, female conservative and that being the case, is being brought on as Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin and a few others for partly entertainment purposes. Everyone knows what those two ladies are going to say before they come on. They're paired with liberals, who have the same kind of personalities with opposite points of views. Few really know that much about Coulters views. They're attracted by a long-haired blonde(?) who says outrageous things. She appeals to me about as much as Carville. I never learn anything from those shows. I just turn the channel.
La Shawn did not come off that way at all. But I wonder if she would get a sniff if she was white or a black liberal. I would really like to see her on PBS or C-Span, where she could be in a discussion with others in which political rhetoric would be sternly dealt with so
serious discussions could be held in substantive ways. I think she'd be gangbusters and it would expand her career.

One Man's Opinion,

Why the vitriol? We all agree that the first problem was the number of deputees. The second was the physical disparity between the two participants. La Shawn feels that females should not have been used at all for this reason. Her opinion on this shouldn't be the primary discussion. I would think that there should have been 3-4 with at least 1 not being cut from the mold of Barney Fife. I think we all agree that Fulton County had major procedural problems that cost 4 good people their lives and that only the compassion of a good Christian woman kept it from being worse.

Regarding your computer connection issues. Find out if your cable company also provides dial-up, and if they do set it up for backup purposes just in case the cable modem goes bad, or some other problem occurs. Also get a good Backup Power Supply, APC makes some good choices for home, they prevent power surges, and allow you to finish blogging during power outages.
