The more I read about Mike Pence, the more I like him. Mike Pence in ‘08?

stan 03.22.05 at 4:35 pm: Good for him. He’s saying some of the right things. But I’m wondering if the title of the article is correct. If it is, why would conservatives need a new look?

Ray B 03.22.05 at 5:48 pm: Rep. Pence would make an excellent candidate for President or Senator. I’m not sure he’s ready for National attention, but running and getting known is part of the process. I will vote for him to replace either of our present Senators. “Hoosiers support bipartisan consensus,” is just the PC way of saying both Senators Bayh and Lugar say one thing in Indiana and something very different in DC.
stan 03.22.05 at 7:02 pm: In a very recent interview with the Washington Post (I think I read it March 13), Ms Rice said that she was “mildly pro-choice” and “libertarian” regarding abortion. Libertarians follow the philosophy described in the book of Judges…everyone did what was right in their own eyes. Why would she ever say something like that and how in the world could she actually believe it?

Mark Slater 03.22.05 at 8:09 pm: FYI: Mike Pence of Indiana scored a 38 on the John Birch Society’s TRIM (not bad considering their stringent scoring system) and a 99 from the American Conservative Union.

Question: if elected, whould he protect America’s borders, language, and culture? (Apologies to Michael Savage, I steal this man’s motto far too often. I just think it sums things up pretty well.)
Mark Slater 03.22.05 at 8:12 pm: Stan: actually, Libertarians admit that theirs is a political philosophy only, and not intended to be a wholistic view of human existence (though there seems to be factions within that movement that would run counter to this).

Alli 03.23.05 at 10:51 am: I’ve met Mike Pence a handful of times as a College Republican here in the great state of Indiana. He’s an amazing man. Strong in both faith and character. He definately has a presidental run in his future. 08 might be a little early, but it’ll happen. I’d like to see him take the Senate seat from Bayh or Lugar first, b/c that would give him some national name recognition.

Thanks for the info. Then how do interpret Ms. Rice’s comments on her belief re: abortion?

Sadly, this means that she would be of the mind that Democrats have been operating for years, “Well, I am personally opposed to abortion, but…” and thus would be no ally in ending this abomination at the federal level, i.e. Roe v Wade, funds for PP, etc. In this case, libertarian=pro-abort.

All: The only names whom I’ve heard mentioned as Republican front-runners in ‘08 are pro-choicers whose commitment to the principles of limited government are also questionable. We musdt recognize the fact that the Republican Establishment has objective that differ considerably from average conservatism, thus I do not think that worthy men like Rep. Pence have mush of a chance.

Aaron J. Hankins 03.26.05 at 11:22 pm: Mike Pence actually got 100% from American Conservative Union and has actually never voted in opposition to the ACU. In fact they told me Pence was their #1 guy. In fact, Mike Pence is everybody’s #1 guy. He is nationally recognized and is primed for a strong presidential run. We as conservatives need to get behind this spiritual and moral leader.
