My segment on MSNBC today is tentative. The Michael Jackson/Jesse Jackson radio interview has turned into old news. I may appear to discuss something else or not at all. I’ll keep you posted.
Update: Looks like I’ll do a blogosphere round-up (including posts about Michael Jackson) today at 5:00 p.m. EST. It will probably be closer to 5:20, but once again, I’ll keep you posted. Leave your tips in the comment section.
On Monday I wrote about blog envy, one of my favorite topics. I don’t think bloggers and journalists have to be enemies, however. I believe there’s enough common ground between us to benefit both. There’s nothing to be afraid of, MSM.
Glenn Reynolds makes a similar observation here. Jeff Jarvis says, “Journalism is a verb, not a noun.”
I say, “Get that man some trackbacks!”
Update: Hey now. I should do one of these. LBC’s top 20 favorite blogs?
Update II (3:49 p.m.): See you kids later when I return with the MSNBC after-report.
Update III (6:07 p.m.): The Political Teen (Media Player) and Trey Jackson (Media Player and Quicktime) both have video of today’s blog round-up. Featured today were about twenty too many “Ahs” (Got to work on that) and my new laptop.
I briefly mentioned the GOP Talking Points Memo scandal, border issues and FrankJ’s proposal to SarahK.
LBC was featured today on CNN’s new blog report segment (Trey Jackson’s video). They quoted from the post below this one, Blogger Gets Burned:
[E]ditors are invaluable. Journalists have that advantage over bloggers. If a reporter gets wind of hot story, he has to confirm sources before the story goes to press. Sometimes the editors goof as well, but at that point the blame also falls on the editor, too. Misery (in being duped by anonymous sources) loves company…[I]f bloggers want to be journalists, we should strive to be better than journalists. Joshua retracted, but the so-called journalists have not.
Catch Michelle Malkin on O’Reilly tonight discussing the ACLU’s opposition to the Minuteman Project volunteers. Trey “Action” Jackson has the video.
Update IV (3/31): I don’t know what to think. Good?

Would you like to do a round up of the European blog scene? The big news here is that France may reject the EU constitution (cross fingers and pray it does).
Apart from my own blog (link above) there are lots of interesting posts at http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/ and http://www.eursoc.com/ not to mention http://eu-serf.blogspot.com/ and of course various others linked to via these.
Share & Enjoy
Is it safe to talk about Jessie Jackson’s involvement with the Shiavo ordeal? Personally, I’m torn between the guy having a history of grandstanding for personal profit and public gain, and the sheer fact that he is able to make things happen.
About my suggestion…it might be a bit controversial for the MSM, maybe not a great idea…
Jim, I will mention that to the producers. That’s a hot topic right now. Have you blogged about it?
What time will you be on La Shawn?
I think a lot of folks are hands off Jesse being there (even Rush Limbaugh brings this up), he was invited by the parents. I too don’t know what to think of him being there but hey, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Maybe this was the type of thing to make Jesse see the light (only time will tell).
Yes, just posted a short one on my own inner dilemna with this turn of events. It’s at the top.
Ok, I see now…nevermind.
I’m pretty sure that the parents knew that inviting Jesse would bring more media attention. I’m also sure they know he has a way of getting things done (I’m not sure how he does). It is possible for the same man to be both a grandstander and be an effective mover and shaker.
Another point is that he could empathize (from the Civil Rights struggle) with their feelings of Terri being treated as less than human, as many have said already, “treatment that we wouldn’t give to a dog.”
You may recall that nearly half of the Congressional Black Caucus (including Jesse’s son) present at the voting supported the Republican-sponsored bill to help Terri’s case. Activists in support of Terri are now shouting that this is about Civil Rights.
I’ll say more about this on my blog and run a trackback when it’s done.
MSM? I think that name gives those slimy “news outlets” too much credit. I call them the corporate media. Its all about the bottom line with those big conglomerates that control the media!
Pajama,
Thanks for pointing that out. I had heard that fact stated also (about the CBC) and I noticed how little “air time” it got in the MSM(they were to busy worrying about “fundamental, righ wing, Chrisitans”).
Alternaview,
Good, honest questions…I read your article. I have to ask, where are the pro-life folks. Where are Dobson, Kennedy, Mrs. La Haye, Mr. Keyes, Mr. Robertrson, Gingrich, Santorum, Senators, Reps, etc.? Where are they? Talking, writing, praying, appealing for funds? Where are they?
Steve,
We’re all throwing the phrase MSM around. Who exactly are these “slimy” folks and what is it that makes them “slimy”? Which media is NOT MSM? Where should I get my news? Where should I go to have my news interpreted and analyzed “correctly”? I read my local paper, which is Republican with a conservative bent, although they seem to be moving imperceptibly to the left. Is that wrong? I sometimes read the LA Times. Is that wrong? I watch NBC and ABC. Is that wrong? I watch MSNBC, CNN and Fox. Is that wrong? I read news on the Yahoo News site. Should I go somewhere else? I sometimes take a peek at WND. Is that OK or preferred? Can you give me specific sources to go to to get my news and analysis straight and correct?
Yeah Ba-beeee! Just barely caught the piece on MSNBC. Just curious why you didn’t show off pics of Sarah’s ring?
I just saw La Shawn on Coast-to-Coast. She is an excellent spokesblogger.
Thanks again, LaShawn. My 15 year old got a big kick out of it and agrees with me that you’ll be doing “bigger” things, soon.
Jim Price,
You’re torn about Jackson getting praise for intervening and getting things done? What, you’d rather have her die that have him get credit? It’s time to call out conservative journalists, talk-show hosts and personalities, bloggers, etc. Why aren’t Malkin, Coulter, Limbaugh, the plant doctor Michael Weiner (aka “Savage”), O’Reilly, Snow, etc. there at the hospice? They’re so sure that this is euthanasia, murder, Nazi-like, etc. but they stay away? They want to blame it on “liberals”, the Bushes, the courts, etc,? If they REALLY believed it was as bad as they say it is, they would shut up and get on the first plane down there and pray and pray and pray. Then they would band together with all those Americans, who follow them and GO IN AND GET HER! They would perform an act of civil disobedience…but they’re talkers, not doers. They’d rather blame the liberals or the Bushes for “euthanasia” then have the courage to go do something. They’d rather write a book about it. That’s why I always respected those in the civil rights movements, blacks and whites alike. They stood for something. They put their bodies on the line. They stood up to brutish, rascist white thugs. They stood up to immoral, ignorant governors. They marched, they sang, they overcame. The “conservatives” back then said “No, it’s an issue of states’ rights. No, you can’t legislate morality. No, they might marry our daughters. No, they can’t read and write so they can’t vote. No, they don’t have enough money to pay the poll tax so they can’t vote. They endured the dogs, the fire hoses, the clubs and still they sang and still they marched. They overcame. Conservatives said “No Social Security, that’s Communism. No Medicare, that’s Socialism. No integration, that’s race-mixing. No integration, it’ll lower property values. No, no, no….” Come out from behind your microphone, Rush. You’re a Floridian…grab your wife and 3 exes and come on down. Come out from behind your computers Michelle and Ann. Come on down and kneel and pray and light candles and hold signs. Come on down Tom, James, D. James, Gary, etc. The Minutemen are going to put their lives on the line, why not you? What are you afraid of? Sean Hannity came on down and respects Jackson’s work. Good for him! Rosa Parks had more courage in her little finger than all of you put together. Shame on you…shame on you all!

Good job. One of the few times I watch MSNBC.
About Jesse Jackson: I will never forget his touching funeral sermon for Jackie Robinson, one of my heroes. I’ve been dissappointed in Rev. Jackson since then. Right now I’m just happy to see someone from the other side of the aisle [along with Ralph Nader] speak up for Terri. No way should this be a Left vs. Right issue.
Stan, I’m sure your assumption that I’m torn between Terri dying and Jesse getting credit for saving her is an honest mistake. I’m not particularly vengeful, so I’ll leave it at that.
As for why the Hannity’s, Rush’s, and Savage’s aren’t at the hospice- I don’t know. Maybe you should ask them yourself. I like to think I’m somewhat gifted at writing, so through my blog, I do my part to help get stories out.
Don’t stereotype me with a cookie-cutter political bias because I think Terri should not be starved to death. By the way, if you have to know, I’m somewhat of an independant.
Jim Price,
Sorry if I misread you…I’m independent, too, or maybe eclectic would be more accurate. I’ve called for someone to intervene on Terri’s behalf from the beginning. I have friends who have been there and possibly are still there. Some have gone back to another state, where they’re fighting a courageous battle in an effort to shut down a heinous late-term abortion clinic. I know the fellow who was seen earlier on driving a red truck with a number of signs and messages on it. He is an extremely courageous fellow. I stand by my criticisms of the others. And I have no way to influence them and neither do you…they don’t pay any attention to anyone anyway. Anyone who disagrees with them is scorned as a “liberal”.They don’t have Email addresses. They’re cowards, all of them hiding in their fortresses.
I’m not a fan of Mr. Jackson and haven’t been for a long time. I don’t consider him to be a clergyman. But HE went there and Sean Hannity’s accepting his efforts at face value. He has put ALL the conservative talkers and legislators to shame. They have revealed themselves to be what they’ve always been…cowards. Just remember Rosa Parks…remember the brave little black children who were escorted into school through crowds of angry rednecks. Remember those who integrated lunch counters and the 3 civil rights workers who were killed. Talk is cheap and conservatives are talking and talking. They’re all gung-ho on the War in Iraq but they and their kids won’t go over there. They leave it to the National Guard. There are just a couple of dozen brave folk at the hospice. Talk, talk, talk…yada, yada, yada…
Thanks La Shawn. It’s not the first time I’ve been called ‘Action’ Jackson- but I love hearing it every time!! Best wishes everyone.
Trey
I think an untold story on this is that there are many on the left supporting Terri Schiavo. I mean, for heavens sake, I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland and BOTH my Senators, Mikulski and Sarbanes, no less, said they supported the Senate bill. The disabled advocacy crowd, with their connections on the left are supporting her, not for pro-life reasons, but because they see that she is being killed because she is disabled rather than sick. We have an opportunity here to work together and get something done on this. I hope we take advantage of it. My post on that is here: http://dory.typepad.com/wittenberg_gate/2005/03/lets_stand_on_c.html and my post with links and quotes from liberals supporting Terri is here: http://dory.typepad.com/wittenberg_gate/2005/03/terris_supporte.html
Way to go, girl! I’m enjoying your success – you’re doing righteous work.
Thanks again for mentioning SarahK and my engagement. That was really sweet and our parents should get a kick out of that.
BTW, I thought you did a great job and looked like a professional T.V. personality to me. I couldn’t even last a couple minutes on radio without making a fool of myself.
Hey, we’re jealous! Deb and I never got mentioned on TV when we did the blogger marriage thing. Sheesh. :>
Well, at least the amazingly cool SarahK told me “thanks for paving the way!”
Great picture! Congratulations on moving out of the “pajama-deen”
I’m so envious of your blog … oh wait … you covered that topic!
In that case, congrats! Too bad I’m not still in nearby MD to toast your success personally!-)
La Shawn;
I read your “too many Ah’s” before I watched the clip. It’s the first time I was able to hear (watch) you speak. You lowered my expectations but you didn’t need to. I think you were competent, credible, and even generous-citing the lefty blog!
You are a fine representative of the “sphere”. Keep it up!
That’s odd, Ms. Barber is one of the few people who look better on television than in a photograph.
I couldn’t agree more, HLM.
