Last Things

in Me, Me, Me, TLA

Last month I blogged about quitting my day job, and I said my last day was sometime in April. This is the day! I’ve been working half days for about three weeks to help with the transition, and now I’m done. I’ll blog about it later.

While you wait, check out the Carnival of the Vanities and Carnival of Education.

By the way, the two Steves (Levitt and Sailer) graced my blog with their presence. They both left comments on the post “Steven Levitt Says Child Killing Reduces Crime” starting here.

Way to go! Good luck, self-employment is the way to go.

Your day of emancipation from working for the Man. ;)

Angela Winters 04.22.05 at 10:32 am

LaShawn,

Congratulations and good luck. I hope you’ll still do your blogging. I’ve just returned from two years in the freelance world and the isolation was a bit much for me, but I miss it already.

You’ll do great.

Holy cow! Well, congratulations!

Congratulations La Shawn. HALLELUJAH!

Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Watch it Andy. That might be sexist. What if La Shawn’s boss was The Woman

Dave 04.22.05 at 11:16 am

Congratulations! That’s awesome.

Congrats! I, for one, am ecstatic that you’ll be writing more. I love your work.

Welcome to the ranks of the pajamaheden.

La Shawn:

I read Steve Levitt’s comments – and I have to agree with the facts as presented, without making value judgements.

“Angry young men” in an age group that Levitt discusses are not only prone to criminal behavior, but, as James Tarranto says in WSJ, also tend to vote Democratic.

SCSI, in any case the new boss, her highness, ain’t the same as the old boss. :D

DarkStar 04.22.05 at 11:48 am

Good luck and God’s speed.

La Shawn,

May all your hopes and dreams come true. I know being a writer full-time means a lot to you, and I sincerely hope it all works out!

God bless.

Congratulations !!!!

It’s not the last day; it’s the first day of your new life.

It takes a lot of courage to listen to God, and follow where He leads you. But, that’s exactly what you’ve done. God has lead you to a place where you can do what you were meant to be doing—what He put you on this Planet to do……full-time !

Cindy Swanson 04.22.05 at 12:40 pm

Best wishes and God bless, La Shawn! I’m sure you’re excited about this turning point in your life. I have no doubt that you’ll do great!

Evon Bachaus 04.22.05 at 12:54 pm

God speed.

LaShawn,
Working for yourself means you are “chief cook and bottle washer” without any cooking implied. Self-employment is opportunity but can work you harder than working for anybody else. Good Luck and God bless!

Congrats, La Shawn! Do your quarterlies as you are going to be paying twice as much in social security now. Trust me, it bites. But if you can handle it, the freedom is worth it.

I wish I had your courage!!

I’ll still be a corporate wage slave for a little while longer..:)

Welcome to the freelance world. You’ll see that once you turn the spiggot on, work will flow. The only downside is the isolation, like Angela said.

Baklava 04.22.05 at 7:53 pm

I’m sure you are finding out that owning your own company is a lot of work.

It probably solidifies your conservative stance.

I wish you well!

Rafael Daniel 04.22.05 at 8:37 pm

Congratulations! May God reward your faith and courage exceedingly, abundantly above your WILDEST imaginations. Peace.

joated 04.22.05 at 9:28 pm

Congratulations! Good luck with your freelancing and public speaking. Being your own boss is a tough gig but you’ve shown on these pages that you can handle it with flare.

nerdwallet 04.22.05 at 11:11 pm

Mark La Roi 04.23.05 at 9:46 am

Prayers and congratulations La Shawn! I hope to some day be a customer of yours so I look forward to the grand opening. 8-)

Go get ‘em LB. I hope to be right behind you. You’ve been blessed w/ the tools, and it’s best to do such things while young and indie, and inspired.

Deborah White 04.23.05 at 11:55 am

God speed in quitting your day job. I did it several years ago…it’s a blessing to spend the days doing what I am called to do. It will be the same for you!

Leslie 05.04.05 at 1:52 am

it will be great!
