Canada, land of open borders and multiculturalism, is wooing our illegal aliens. What a brilliant idea.
And convenient, too. On the same land mass as the good old USA, Canada is the perfect place for people who seek better living conditions but want to avoid the hassle of submitting to pesky laws against border jumping:
Mexicans can enter Canada just by showing a passport, much easier than the long, expensive process of getting U.S. visas. Canada also has a widely praised farmworker program and is aggressively courting foreign students. The country also has an easy-to-follow process for getting work permits that assigns points based on certain skills. The U.S. system is more subjective, with consular officials wielding the power to approve or reject applications without explanation.
Canada’s low birth rate, about 1.61 children per couple, means the country needs immigrants to maintain its population of 33 million, Rosenblatt said. The United States is holding steady at 2.08 children per couple.
On April 19, Canada said it would spend $58 million to speed citizenship applications and vowed to triple citizenship approvals for parents and grandparents of immigrants. While they’re waiting for citizenship, those people will get 5-year, multiple-entry visas to visit their children in Canada. (Source)
How very liberal of them! Incidentally, Canada has its own immigration laws, so are they planning to erase them from the books? From the Canadian government web site:
Canadá extiende una afectuosa bienvenida a los visitantes de todos los paÃses del mundo. Las personas….
Sorry about that! I forgot where I was for a minute there. Mon erreur!
Mexicans visiting Canada as tourists do not require visas. They however must satisfy the immigration authorities at the Port of Entry that they are bona fide temporary residents (tourists). U.S. citizens and resident aliens similarly need no visa if they seek entry as tourists.
Perhaps government officials in Canada know something we don’t. Uninsured illegal aliens are burdening the U.S. health care system, government schools, and the prison system, so why their presence is good for a country with a shrinking population (dwindling tax base?) is a mystery. But what do I know, anyway? I’m only an American.
Some Mexicans admit fleeing to Canada because they’re repelled by America’s illegal alien gang problem:
Family ties and easier entry aren’t the only reasons Mexicans choose Canada over the United States. Many visa applicants said they were attracted by Canada’s open spaces and lower crime rate.“I have family in Los Angeles and I’ve visited them there, but I don’t like the lifestyle that Mexicans live up there,” said Guillermo Rivas Zaldibar, 38. “A lot of those people are not very educated. It’s not exactly the best people we’re sending up there.”
Mr. Zaldibar misses the sweet irony dripping from his words. Someone ought to tell him that Canada’s liberal immigration policies will attract those same “not very educated” and criminal Mexicans he’s trying to get away from! Or maybe we should let him find out the hard way: on his own.
Other Mexicans simply do not like us. One guy says, “I find them very egotistical. There are a lot of historical problems between our countries. Canadians are much nicer; they appreciate other cultures.”
Well I certainly know what he means. Trying to preserve one’s heritage can be seen as egocentric and even racist. That is, it’s racist only when Americans try to preserve their heritage. Everyone else can display cultural pride, and the multiculti-goodness is celebrated before the sacred god of Diversity, but when those nasty, old Americans with their superior attitudes and high standard of living dare to preserve what is uniquely American…the snobs!
It’s funny how millions are jumping borders and stuffing themselves into hot, cramped trucks and boats just to be among “egotistical” Americans. Why would they want to come to a land full of self-centered xenophobes?
The masochists!
