I am not going to see this movie. I will resist the urge. I will ignore the hype, I will ignore the hype…

After reading George Lucas’ comments relating the story line to the eveeeel Bush administration, comparing Iraq with Vietnam, I certainly won’t be spending a penny on it.

Tiffany In Mpls 05.16.05 at 1:34 pm

Sometimes we can take things a WEE BIT too seriously, like for instance a MOVIE.

I’ll be in line, I’m not a big fan but I’m curious to see how it all plays out.

RedBeard 05.16.05 at 1:40 pm

Yeah, perhaps I do take things too seriously. Mea culpa. But I’m near the breaking point with all the garbage, both in artistry and leftist propaganda, that is oozing out from under the rocks in Hollywood these days. Enough already. :(

DragonLady 05.16.05 at 2:05 pm

LaShawn, don’t deny being a geek. Embrace it. Join those of us on the “dark side.” :-) Now having said that, I was going to wait until it came on on DVD, but my son wants to see it at the “thetear,” and now he has my daughter wanting to go as well.

I’m going for the overpriced popcorn. ;-)

Eddie 05.16.05 at 2:14 pm

Sorry. I can’t resist the lure of the evil hollywood dark side. I’ll be there dressed in my Darth Vader suit and my replica light saber.

AJ 05.16.05 at 2:35 pm

Resistance is futile.

And YES, Trekies that was menat as irony.

docjim505 05.16.05 at 2:47 pm

Don’t blame you a bit. After wasting about $15 for a ticket, popcorn and a Coke (as well as a couple of hours of my life!) to see “Attack of the Clowns”, I’m not feeling very inclined to spend my money on this episode, either.

The ONLY good thing about “Clowns” was a comment my brother made when we went to see it. While Annikin was mooning on about how Amidala “intoxicates me”, my brother leaned over and said…

The last part was a little too racy for LBC, docjim. – Admin

C’mon, La Shawn! You can’t betray the rest of us nerds. We’re going to see it in the theater in hopes that the very big screen and booming surround sound will make the movie seem less dopey.

Mike M. 05.16.05 at 3:15 pm

RedBeard,

You know Lucas wrote this nearly two decades ago? So what if he’s drawing paralells.

“You’re either with us or against us” is scary no matter who says it.

Andy 05.16.05 at 3:22 pm

Yes, resistance is futile for me and the kids — we’ve been waiting for over a year. Luckily, I’ll be able to interpret the story to my liking ;)

RedBeard 05.16.05 at 3:25 pm

Mike, I read Lucas’ comments from just the last day or so, and he angered me enough that whatever enjoyment I might have gotten from his film has been flushed. As I said, my tolerance for Hollywood’s pontificating left wing has worn pretty thin these days.

Jay 05.16.05 at 3:37 pm

“There’s no escaping the power of the dark side.”
“Join us, and together we will see the movie.”
“LaShawn, I am your theater. Eat your popcorn and you’ll know it to be true.”

DeputyHeadmistress 05.16.05 at 3:44 pm

I’ll be waiting for the video, and then maybe waiting longer than that. We still haven’t seen all the other ones. Now Hitchhiker’s Guide, I went to the theater to see.

ratso ferrari 05.16.05 at 4:20 pm

Star Wars: Streisand, Baldwin and Garafalo vs Bush, Condi and Rumsfeld.

Dave 05.16.05 at 5:24 pm

“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”

*attempting telekinetic deathgrip*

Didn’t work, huh? shoot.

*waving hand*

“These are not the comments you’re looking for.”

Re: Racy comment.

My head is bloody and bowed.

Miss O'Hara 05.16.05 at 8:22 pm

Ha. Well, LaShawn, since The Agency is giving me half the day off to go see the movie – on their time, they having purchased the ticket for the entire staff…I’ll take any excuse I CAN to get out of that heckhole! I can borrow someone’s wireless PDA and read the news.

Or something.

SCSIwuzzy 05.16.05 at 8:46 pm

You don’t know the power of the dork side of the force

SCSIwuzzy 05.16.05 at 8:49 pm

Eh, redbeard, just looking at the movies you know you are dealing with an immature vision of politics and reality. Take what pleasure you can, and chuckle off the rest. Like when you visit relatives and their children.

RedBeard 05.16.05 at 8:56 pm

Yeah, but I like my immature relatives and their children. ;)

RepJ 05.16.05 at 9:13 pm

I want to go see it, but did Lucas really make some bad comments?

Spunky 05.16.05 at 9:33 pm

I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. And I remember when the original movies came out. I didn’t see them then and I won’t see them now.

Spunky

Rafael Daniel 05.16.05 at 9:44 pm

You WILL see it. You already know that La Shawn. Just don’t put too much fake butter on your popcorn.

Mark Slater 05.16.05 at 11:56 pm

Well, I’m reluctant, too. After seeing “The Phantom Menace” in ‘99, I just about lost interest in the new trilogy pre-quel. I have never seen the second movie.

On second thought, maybe I ought to give it a chance!

Paula 05.17.05 at 1:19 am

I’d never seen any of the Star Wars movies until just before #2 came out. My friends had taken to calling my ewok (after a youth group camp where I walked around in my sleeping bag with fuzzy brown hair…), so I thought I’d watch all of the movies, as they were being shown on tv for the next few weeks…needless to say, any excuse for me to go and see Hayden Christensen on screen is a good excuse :)

Alex 05.17.05 at 2:15 am

Didn’t you guys see the last two?

Just kidding. Hopefully this one doesn’t disappoint.

LaShawn…why resist? “For you see, evil will always triumph and good is dumb.” Y’all get points to name that one. But feed into the need, LaShawn…feed into the need!

FL Mom 05.17.05 at 8:55 am

RepJ – Lucas did indeed say some goofy things. Mudville Gazette posted a neat compare/contrast the other day: http://www.mudvillegazette.com/archives/002835.html

And this is just cute & corny:

Dan 05.17.05 at 9:00 am

I have to agree with RedBeard. The ‘fact’ that he wrote it 2 decades ago (actually, it was a story in his head…who knows what he really ‘wrote’ two decades ago) is irrelevant to me. It’s what he says now.

I will not plunk down my hard earned money so he can continue to spread his leftist garbage on me and my family.

Tim 05.17.05 at 9:31 am

Please, would someone please link to these comments from George Lucas? I would like to read them for myself. Thanks.

Jerry McClellan 05.17.05 at 10:17 am

I am not going to resist. I am weak when it comes to Star Wars, loved it from childhood.

noah 05.17.05 at 4:54 pm

Tim, take a look at:

mollo 05.18.05 at 3:05 pm

Well, I’ve got my tickets and I’m going to the Thursday morning show. Most of the Thursday early am shows are already sold out here. Though the tickets didn’t cost much, the day care for the children is too too much!!!

Mwalimu Daudi 05.18.05 at 3:48 pm

I am not going to see “Revenge of the Sith”. Only the original Star Wars (”Episode IV – A New Hope”) was any fun for me. Episode V was nothing but a rip-off of Episode IV, and Episode VI should have been the last rites for the series. Episode I was the worst of all (no small feat), and I never bothered to see Episode II. Include me out.

Ernest Brown 05.18.05 at 11:34 pm

After Lucas linked up with muttonhead Joseph Campbell, he vapor-locked and started spewing out self-consciously stupid drivel.

THE FANDOM MENACE was beyond pathetic.

Here’s hopeful news from Will at Vodkapundit:
http://vodkapundit.com/archives/007837.php
(There are spoilers so stop scrolling when he gives the warning.)
According to him, Lucas’ political mumbojumbo was way overblown.
