A journalist named Linda Foley, president of the Newspaper Guild, has been caught on tape pulling an Eason Jordan. Watch and listen to her make vile, inflammatory, and unsubstantiated claims about American troops military (Pardon me!) targeting Arab journalists on this RealAudio video.

As reported on WorldNetDaily:

According to a tape of her remarks, Foley said: “Journalists, by the way, are not just being targeted verbally or … ah, or … ah, politically. They are also being targeted for real, um … in places like Iraq. What outrages me as a representative of journalists is that there’s not more outrage about the number, and the brutality, and the cavalier nature of the U.S. military toward the killing of journalists in Iraq.”

Foley continued, “They target and kill journalists … uh, from other countries, particularly Arab countries like Al -, like Arab news services like al-Jazeera, for example. They actually target them and blow up their studios with impunity. …”

Developing…

Update (5:15 p.m.): I called the Newspaper Guild (202.434.7177) a few minutes ago to speak to Linda Foley and/or someone willing to go on the record, and I got a message saying something like, “Due to the number of calls that we believe are a coordinated effort to tie up the line, we regret that we cannot answer your call. Please leave a message and someone will…”

That’s a paraphrase, by the way. I called back to try to take down the message verbatim, and I got the “Our office hours are 8:30 to 4:30…Please leave your name, number…” message. I left a message the first time, and I e-mailed Linda Foley for comment.

When asked if she believed U.S. troops had targeted journalists in Iraq, she said, “I was careful of not saying troops, I said U.S. military. Could I have said it differently? There are 100 different ways of saying this, but I’m not sure they would have appeased the right.”

The back-pedaling starts…now.

Update II (8:34 p.m.): The Political Teen has video of an O’Reilly Factor interview with the writers who broke the story.

Update III (5/20): Michelle (subbing for O’Reilly tonight) and Lorie Byrd (Update) have joined the swarm. I’ll have more to say about Linda Foley later today. And I’m not expecting a returned phone call or e-mail from the Newspaper Guild.

We can never have too many videos of this woman.

Jim Geraghty asks: “At this point, is ‘Newsweek’ really journalism?”

Andi’s on. Check her out.

  2. Gee, I’m grateful for the scoop from uh-Ms Foley. I was not aware that there WERE Arab journalists! According to my sources Al-Jazeera use cameras and DNC talking points.
This is from a 4mer lefty.

    Comment by Christie — 05.19.05 @ 5:23 pm

  3. :) I was a 4mer lefty also. In 1991.

I have been hoping for more than a decade that the truth can be reported instead of speculations and fabrications.

One of the largest examples that I state over and over is in 1995, Clinton accused the Republicans of wanting to cut Medicare by 270 Billion dollars. And for 5 long months the press reported that and only that. Republican after Republican and Rush were trying to point out that it was not a 270 billion dollar cut but that it was an increase of 7% per year for 7 years. In no way could you have called it a cut because it was a larger increase than inflation and the number of NEW Medicare recipients that would be in the system.

5 LONG months that happened. Those days are now over and I’m so happy. You still have people sucking down the dominant presses reporting as gospel fact, but in the last decade we have seen so many people be pursuaded. One person at a time. Every day ever time something like this happens many more people are pursuaded that they need to see other sources of information.

The Democrats had basically 54 year long span of being in control of the House and Senate (with a short 2 year lapse), control over most state governorships and legislatures and even the White House many times during those years. The shift has happened because the dominant press isn’t able to control the information anymore. Now the Republicans have the majority of state governors and legislatures and the House and the Senate and the White House……..

And for all of you liberals who are whacked out about this. Just understand how us conservatives think. We think that the Republicans are to the left of center. Both the Democrats and Republicans are to the left. There are those who like to characterize the parties as polar opposites and extremes but on a scale of -10 t0 +10 the Republicans are about -2 and the Dems are about -5.

For over 60 years the government has grown every year and become more involved and created more regulations and laws. More and more government. Leftists really need not worry that Republicans are in office. President Bush was the first president to have the federal government spend money on stem cell research (no matter how the left wants to characterize Bush’s policy what I wrote is true). This drives conservatives and I’m sure libertarians (who want a cut in government spending by 80%) up the wall, because we know that the private sector can do stem cell research much more efficiently and effectively. Private Industry has already found over 40 uses for umbilical cord stem cells.

I digressed. The topic at hand to me is how untruthful the dominant press has been and it’s one of my “buttons”.

Then again she probably can’t answer the phone because she’s trying to have removed from her netherloins (rear end) an Abrams Tank. You’ll see her live on this evening’s news declaring “It’s stuck and I can’t get it out!”

That’s one that will be turned back on you in short order. Be patient. It’s coming.

Rest up and gather your ‘facts’ and friends. Circle your wagons well, because we are coming.

That annoying ringing phone? That’s not us.

Why you insist on believing that the American Military intentionally targets journalists for murder is beyond me.

The ‘target’ you imagine is not the crosshairs of a gun or tank, but rather the crosshairs directing fire on the battleground of ideas. Your imaginary ideas of the murder of journalists will be engaged on the Battleground of Ideas…and shown for what it is…again.

We will not sit idly by and allow you sully the honor of the American Military. You have engaged in a battle you cannot win.

So rest up, clear your mind and prepare to be engaged in the way the American Military has always engaged you:

Yes, sometimes with the disdain that words such as yours duly earns. But you are always and will always be engaged only on the Battleground of Ideas. Got it?

  26. Germaine to this issue is my memory of the Palestine Hotel attack. I was watching CNN, as I dimly recall. They had footage from a balcony room in the Hotel showing the tank. The cameraman was obviously standing or kneeling on the balcony. I think there was audio of gunfire. I swore that in the lower right of the picture I saw shells arcing as they ejected from an automatic rifle. At that point the tank fired, the cameraman hit the deck, and the clip was over.
I’m not sure now if it was CNN, but if the footage could be found it would answer the question of whether there was justification to fire on the hotel where journalists were staying. I never saw the footage again. I assume it was taken by free-lancers who sold their footage to CNN, but I could be wrong. The shells were blurry, and I could be wrong, but I could swear that for a second or so I was watching a rifle firing from the same balcony the cameraman was filming from. Maybe the clip could be found in the archives of CNN, FOX, MSNBC or whoever. At the time I was clicking back and forth from CNN to FOX to watch the war.
