36,000 Troops

in Illegal Aliens

From the Washington Times:

The deployment of 36,000 National Guard troops or state militia on the U.S.-Mexico border would stop the illegal flow of foreigners into America, says a congressional report that credits the Minuteman Project with proving that additional manpower could “dramatically reduce if not virtually eliminate” illegal immigration.

I am pleased to hear this bit of news. Vindication for the Minuteman Project is a good start, but the overrun of illegal aliens is still front and center. Read the rest of the story, and you’ll understand why this problem has grown to unmanageable proportions. It’s alarming.

But it gets worse. National security breaches are only part of the story. Another part is the introduction of diseases like leprosy (leprosy?). Diseases that had been eradicated or controlled in the United States have emerged once again. Illegal aliens not only bring these diseases into the country, they drain our healthcare system as they seek treatment. And we have to pay for it.

Illegal immigration is turning American into a third world country with the kind of diseases found in hovels where people live as though progress passed them by and sanitation problems kill. It’s freakish. Aliens are overcrowding hospitals, prisons and schools and infesting suburban and rural areas with filthy gangs. It’s despicable.

I confess that I’m somewhat of a conspiracy theorist, and I believe that if the United States government really wanted to stop the flow of illegals, it could. The question is whywon’t the government put a stop to something that spreads loathsome diseases and crime?

Will the government deploy those 36,000 troops?

Update: What can the average American do? We can report illegal aliens. They probably won’t be deported, but at least we can do something. I don’t see anything on the Department of Homeland “Security” web site about how to report people in the country illegally. Just a bunch of self-serving links to news stories and other equally bloated agenices.

As usual, the private sector is the better option. It’s a shame to pay for something that should be free.

Update II: One of my liberal detractors wrote a post critical of this one. The blogger implied that I don’t understand the Bible, quoting this passage in Luke 5:

And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. (12-15)

Apparently, I’m just guessing here, this is supposed to show that I’m “un-Christian” in my criticism of lepers and my desire that they be prevented from jumping the border. In violation of U.S. immigration law, but what does that matter? I digress. Here’s the comment I left on the blog:

Good grief. Rude and crude commenters. I’ll tread lightly. I guess you quoted Scripture to insinuate that I, as a Christian, shouldn’t say anything negative about the diseased and that the US should continue to allow the influx of illegal aliens. I can’t be sure what you’re getting at since you offered no exegetical comment on the passage. But that’s probably what you meant.

This is the risk that Christians run when they’re open about their faith. A more balanced comment on your part would be to acknowledge that Jesus did much more than heal the man’s disease: he healed his “sin sickness,” an illness much more lethal than his leprosy. While Christ healed the physical deformities, he also saved the man and fulfilled a prophecy, which I’d encourage you to go back and read in the OT.

There’s also the issue of what Christ says about lawbreaking. Here’s a hint: he doesn’t approve of it. A more balanced comment would’ve acknowledged that illegal aliens aren’t being very “Christian” by violating the laws of the US, whether or not you think they’re just. For a hint on exactly what God appointed governments for, scan through the Book of Romans.

It’s funny how some people have no sympathy for those law abiding citizens being financially and physically affected by the scrouge of illegal immigration, while criticizing those who do speak out in defense. Being a Christian isn’t easy though. We’re constantly being watched and scrutinized by people who quote the Bible out of context. Such is life.

One final thought. Nothing I wrote in the post is unbiblical or un-Christian. Copying and pasting a passage from the Bible with the word “leprosy” in it does little more than soothe the godless and ease their guilt. The Bible also contains the words “fornicator,” “liar,” “greed,” “vengence,” “God’s wrath,” “sinner,” “[doctrine of] eternal damnation,” a command to “be ye holy, as I am holy,” just to name a few. Read the whole book. It’s very…educational.

Missed by people unfamilar with the Bible are the profound spiritual lessons Christ taught and the wrath to come. I’ve blogged several times about this, and it frustrates me to no end. I recommend you read Matthew Henry’s commentary on the passage. He said it much better than I can right now.

“Illegal immigration is turning American into a third world country with the kind of diseases found in countries with sanitary problems.”

I wonder if people would get this worked up if trended towards third world levels of income disparity.

David L 05.24.05 at 11:23 am

The congresssional report makes for interesting speculation. How pausible is the report? I don’t know. However mobilization of the reserves is not a long term solution. We can’t keep the reserves on the border for ever and once we muster out the reserves, we back to the same old leaky border problem.

A long term solution would be to station active duty forces on the border, but I don’t think we have the personnel for that. Thirty-six thousand troops amouns to something short of four divisions, and we don’t have four divsions to spare.

At least the report represents a starting point, albeit an impractical one.

“Illegal immigration is turning American into a third world country with the kind of diseases found in countries with sanitary problems.”

Scaling back our sanitary spending would also give us dirty dirty policies like dirty dirty foreigners.

“Will the government deploy those 36,000 troops?”
The likelyhood that this will happen is slightly better than the NHL returning next year with a new franchise. Hell having fielded a hockey team.

Regarding paying for healthcare…

edting LaShawn, “they drain our healthcare system as they seek treatment. And we (TAXPAYERS) have to pay for it.” added emphasis…

Where’s the outrage and where’s an alternative to the “Republicans” who occupy too many of the Senate seats now (McCain, et al). If there can be some good, with spine, replacements pursuaded to run, I’ll spend my retirement working for them in any state, not just PA where I vote.

Walter E. Wallis 05.24.05 at 12:15 pm

When the resolution is so obvious, look for those who profit by keeping immigrants illegal.

Glamchild 05.24.05 at 12:22 pm

It’s going to take an angry electorate.

When voters get mad, something might be done.

Don’t underestimate angry voters. The one way Hillary could get into office, is if voters are irrational enough with anger. It happens all the time. The wrong people get into office because voters were angry enough.

I hope it doesn’t get to that point.

The theory promoted by Wall Street Journal, among others, …..that illegal immigration drives the economy is ridiculous.

What did we all do in the 1960s, and 70s? Who was cleaning houses and offices back then?

How did we ever survive?

FOLKS: clean your own house and clean your own office. It’s good exercise; and besides, I don’t like anyone messing with my stuff. I clean things exactly the way I want ‘em, and I don’t have to rely on anyone else.

Let’s all roll up our sleeves, get out that Mop-N-Glo, and start practicing a little self-reliance for a change.

W.NM. 05.24.05 at 12:25 pm

Actus,

What is your point? What do you have to add to the thread?

SCSIwuzzy 05.24.05 at 12:25 pm

Work that dialectic, actus, work it.

La Shawn,
Where would we get the troops? While I don’t think we’re at out limits now, I think we are close enough now to rule out 36k troops on the border.
Maybe we could get some use out of Americorps… send them and their dockers and bright red jackets down by the Rio Grande… :)

Glamchild 05.24.05 at 12:29 pm

Also, keep in mind it isn’t just the Mexican border: We have a problem with the Canadian border, and that would take considerably more troops.

I believe that the 9/11 terrorists came in through Canada. I could be wrong.

I wonder if our good friends, the Canadians, would help us secure their borders?

ratso ferrari 05.24.05 at 12:32 pm

With all the downsizing of military bases there should be plenty of regular troops to patrol the border. As for illegals using the healthcare system,I am sick and tired of our elected officials representing aliens instead of hard working taxpayers that elected them to office.

FL Mom 05.24.05 at 12:59 pm

Actus called me dirty. My family took the trouble to immigrate LEGALLY. Why can’t the Mexicans? Better yet, why can’t Mexico become a first world country so that its citizens don’t feel the urge to flee?

And what kind of nonsense is “scaling back sanitary spending?” How about just scaling back (read: eliminating) spending on medical treatment, and welfare, and home loans for illegals?

Baklava 05.24.05 at 12:59 pm

Hepatitus also.

Actus,

It’s not a foriegnor and immigrant issue. It’s an “illegal” immigrant issue. Take the time to understand… Try it and you might like it.

We are a generous nation that allows more legal immigrants than all other nations combined. There is absolutely NO reason for allowing “illegal” immigration.

Now what is your position?

Ben David 05.24.05 at 1:00 pm

The obvious solution is to finally invade and conquer Canada and Mexico. This would considerably shrink our southern border, and except for Siberia there would be precious little activity in the North Sea.

It’s our Manifest Destiny!

Besides, the Mexicans all want to be Americans anyway, and the Candanians are insufferable pseudo-Europeans – so let them go back to the European motherland.

actus 05.24.05 at 1:06 pm

“Actus called me dirty. My family took the trouble to immigrate LEGALLY. ”

Hey, I’m from brazil. Wanna talk sanitary?

W.NM. 05.24.05 at 1:27 pm

Actus,

Again, what is the point you are trying to make? You post alot, but they all (including other sites) have the usual one liners and coy snippets.

I always try to learn from reading different positions, what is yours?

wayne 05.24.05 at 2:11 pm

There are some very simple truths involved here. All of them involve wealth and pride.

From the American side there are 2 issues.
First: Much of the government of this country is run by those who are members of FreeMasonry.

While the lower level members of this society are just average people and generally a good force in our society, their leadership has always been supportive of slavery and of using the impoverished as servants. The Mason’s were the majority of slaveowners pre-civil war and they created the KKK to keep blacks in the position of servitude afterward.

The idea of allowing in a new slave class to serve them is part of the driving force behind the resistance to stopping illegal immigration.

The second American motive in this is oil. Mexico is our number two supplier and there is an undertone of ewvidence that they have threatened to cut us off if we stop the invasion.

Mexico has 2 motives as well.

First off the reduced pressure from the poor escaping to America absolves them from providing benefits or facing revolts.

Most importantly Mexico wants Aztlan back. This is the province that they lost in the 1848 Mexican War that comprises a triangular area that includes everything from eastern Texas to San Diego and north to Washington State (about 1/3 of the US). There is group here called meCHa that is the ideological group promoting this (you can check their websites) and their plan is to invade in significant numbers to take back this area by vote or force.

So it is obvious that we both are at war and are being betrayed by greedy slavers.

Mwalimu Daudi 05.24.05 at 2:59 pm

My wife is a legal immigrant from an African country. We played it straight and followed the law when we applied for her visa, yet we encountered almost a year of roadblocks and delays. Had we instead decided to sneak across the border illegally, we could have saved a lot of time and money.

The sad fact is that illegal immigrants reflect poorly on legal immigrants. That’s both unfair and wrong. Why won’t the government that made my wife jump through seemingly endless hoops not enforce immigration laws against those who break them?

FL Mom 05.24.05 at 3:48 pm

>>”Hey, I’m from brazil. Wanna talk sanitary?”

A lot of surgical gloves are manufactured in Brazil.

Mwalimu Daudi – I agree with your statement about enforcing immigration laws. People who enter a country (any country) illegally are criminals who should face penalties. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking people.

mj 05.24.05 at 4:43 pm

I’m also not thrilled about the audacity that illegal immigrants show when they not only come here with fake papers, but they proceed to have kids. I’d be able to tolerate illegal workers a tad bit more if they would show restraint in procreating.

mj 05.24.05 at 4:48 pm

What I said sounded harsh–sorry. The illegal immigrants I’ve lived around had kids who were totally cute and very well-behaved. So I’m not against the kids as human beings, just the audacity of having them, when they’re not supposed to be here in the first place.

Agitprop 05.24.05 at 6:17 pm

Thank you for that enlightening post. I am too concerned about alien invasions in the United States. Considering the upcoming release of “War of the Worlds”, aliens pose a serious threat to our way of life. I myself have witnessed several little green men in my backyard. It’s about time that the government rounds up these aliens and exterminates them once and for all.

ROXANNE 05.24.05 at 7:00 pm

For all the endless complaining YOU do about people who don’t give you links when they are citiing your posts and work, I’m a bit surprised you didn’t give me one in your UPDATE II.

What up with that?

La Shawn 05.24.05 at 7:02 pm

Roxanne, the “endless complaining” I do is directed toward bloggers who name me in their posts but don’t link. When someone is talking about me in a vague manner (and sometimes quoting me) without mentioning my name or this blog, I don’t care whether they link or not. There is a distinction.

Your post wasn’t too objectionable, but some of the comments on the post are atrocious. You have some pretty uncouth people commenting over there. But my readers are adults, so I’ll link. I typically don’t link to blogs that allow commenters to insult me or bloggers who do so themselves (which you have NOT, so don’t misunderstand me) because it can also lead to flame wars, which I find as loathsome as excrement. I’ll make an exception this time, but I’m delinking, without guilt or hypocrisy, if your commenters go too far.

actus 05.24.05 at 7:27 pm

Where do you think Chili’s get their supplies from?

actus 05.24.05 at 8:12 pm

“Having kids that someone else has to pay for is a big problem, actus. – Admin ”

But anyone can do that, not just immigrants. Immigrants can also take care of their kids. I’m guessing they might even do it better if they were regularized.

And those kids are americans. We can take care of americans can’t we?

Anyone who tries to play “Gotcha!” with Jesus will fail miserably, just like the Pharisees did. Jesus could not have been accepted as a sacrifice for the world’s sins if He had not been sinless, completely pure and holy.

Every State has a National Guard and they train at least 2 weeks per year. The southern border, for the most part,is a lot of desert terrain so why not do the training there? U.S. troops need desert training also and could supplement the border security. As far as that goes, training could be done on both borders and even include the Coast Guard.

Andy 05.25.05 at 10:54 am

La Shawn, that was a good takedown in your post. I’m afraid my response would have been too testosterone-ladened :)

Did you see Michelle’s post about that guy who raped and buried that girl was an illegal immigrant?

As for Mexico, we can easily fix their situation, by annexation as a couple of new States. Then we’ll only need 1,000 guards along the new border. The benefit is that Mexicans will finally get some of that old-time democracy and improved standard of living. However, I’d insist that they convert to English. ;)

Agitprop 05.25.05 at 11:23 am

Nuke Mexico. Problem solved.

john 05.25.05 at 6:55 pm

As someone who migrated legally and waited nearly 3 decades to get a green card and then a US passport, it always makes my blood boil when criticism of illegals is portrayed as criticism of foreigners.

One thing I’m sure of, encouraging illegals encourages racism/xenophobia as it causes ordinary Americans to associate the bad behavior of the illegals with immigrants in general.

I am discouraged that no political party has figured out a way to marshall the anger of legal immigrants against illegals for a campaign against illegal immigration.

I also think that if it were much easier to keep out and kick out illegals, the INS would not treat legal applicants so badly.

As it stands, those who are outside the country have no rights when applying for a visa, so they can be insulted and abused by petty INS officials with no recourse. Those who get in — by hook or by crook — can use every dirty trick in the book to stay in the US. You don’t know how many friends from back home I’ve talked to who are so frustrated by arcane regulations and rude immigration officers that they are tempted to just come over (on a tourist visa) and stay illegally.

Leprosy?… It’s Hanson’s Disease; you know, like that horrible cream soda.

Bene Diction 05.27.05 at 5:12 am

Hey Glamchild:

No 9/11 terrorist came into the US through Canada.
That myth started when Ahmed Ressam was caught trying to enter the US in 1999 to blow up the LA airport. He had been refused Cdn immigrant status and stole a passport.
A co-conspirator Abdel Hakim Tazayha did get across and was caught.
Gazi Ibruhim Abumizer had tried to get a US visa, couldn’t, got a Canadian one and was caught at the border three times. Canada wouldn’t take him back he was sent to the US and deported.
There was a well publicized case of Kadr, a Canadian citizen operating false charities in Afghanistan who was arrested in Pakistan. His three sons (Cdn citizens) are in Cuba detention.

Just a reminder. September 11/2001 at 9:45 am US air space was shut down. Canada took in all flights at 14 airport between 225 -250 planes. 44, 519 passengers
By 12:15 pm US airspace was secure. Canada had fighter jets in place by 10 am through NORAD.
The commander of operations in the US at Colorado was a Canadian.
In the aftermath of 9/11 skilled and trained people from the Salvation Army through to engineers assisted in the US.

In late 2001 17 Cdn claiments that were Al Qaeda operatives were arrested in other countries.

Do we need to keep working on border issues? Yes.

I hope that corrects the misperception, Glamchild.

Leprosy or Hansons Disease. There are two types.
1 -2 million people world wide are disabled from it. About 8 hundred thousand cases are reported each year. It is spread by respiratory droplets and many people are immune. A multi drug treatment is effective.
I suggest you check the CDC prevelence stats.
It was never ‘eradicated’ in the US.

Paul Smith 05.28.05 at 8:35 pm

I think that most people who are politicians are mainly in those postions for themselves, whatever party they claim to belong to.

I think that to them, most Americans (90%) are just part of the cattle farm that they need to support themselves and those who can more closley help them climb into postions of power and postion. So what are a few million more heads of cattle moving onto there ranch? All they have to do is feed and water the cattle and that’s more beef and milk for their harvest?

The only real thing that gets a politician moving is a threat to their loss of power and control. Their worst fear is becoming part of the cattle.

They believe they are the ranchers and the rest of us cattle. The worst part is that we let them. WE have let ourselves be dictated to about when, where, and how we will be fed. We have put in place those who promise to serve our needs as good ranchers when they just wanted to lead us to slaughter.

Don’t think for a moment that any politician suffers from any economic or cultural impact that affects most Americans. They live so far above the economic levels of most Americans that a dollar rise in gas doesn’t have any more affect upon them than a one cent raise in the price of a 12 oz. soft drink. And they don’t eben have to pay for their softdrink anyway.

I don’t think that our Government will do anything substantial about illegal Immigration for a long time. Only when it causes problems to them and their plans will they start to try and make some headway into the issue.

As long as the country is focused on things like Judge nominations, Social Security, party attacks, then the people don’t press them on important issues like Illegal Immigration. The News Media does not remark much about Illegal Immigration unless it’s a big issue going on with our politicians. They cover what seems to be the big news based upon what politicians, movie and music stars are doing. Seldom do they take a stance upon what peple think and want. They believe their news should guide what pewopl think and want and so far they seem to be working it right.

I think that people need to make a change in what they think is important, not change to be be what others tell them are important.
