I think that most people who are politicians are mainly in those postions for themselves, whatever party they claim to belong to.

I think that to them, most Americans (90%) are just part of the cattle farm that they need to support themselves and those who can more closley help them climb into postions of power and postion. So what are a few million more heads of cattle moving onto there ranch? All they have to do is feed and water the cattle and that's more beef and milk for their harvest?

The only real thing that gets a politician moving is a threat to their loss of power and control. Their worst fear is becoming part of the cattle.

They believe they are the ranchers and the rest of us cattle. The worst part is that we let them. WE have let ourselves be dictated to about when, where, and how we will be fed. We have put in place those who promise to serve our needs as good ranchers when they just wanted to lead us to slaughter.

Don't think for a moment that any politician suffers from any economic or cultural impact that affects most Americans. They live so far above the economic levels of most Americans that a dollar rise in gas doesn't have any more affect upon them than a one cent raise in the price of a 12 oz. soft drink. And they don't eben have to pay for their softdrink anyway.

I don't think that our Government will do anything substantial about illegal Immigration for a long time. Only when it causes problems to them and their plans will they start to try and make some headway into the issue.

As long as the country is focused on things like Judge nominations, Social Security, party attacks, then the people don't press them on important issues like Illegal Immigration. The News Media does not remark much about Illegal Immigration unless it's a big issue going on with our politicians. They cover what seems to be the big news based upon what politicians, movie and music stars are doing. Seldom do they take a stance upon what peple think and want. They believe their news should guide what pewopl think and want and so far they seem to be working it right.

I think that people need to make a change in what they think is important, not change to be be what others tell them are important.

Hey Glamchild:

No 9/11 terrorist came into the US through Canada.
That myth started when Ahmed Ressam was caught trying to enter the US in 1999 to blow up the LA airport. He had been refused Cdn immigrant status and stole a passport.
A co-conspirator Abdel Hakim Tazayha did get across and was caught.
Gazi Ibruhim Abumizer had tried to get a US visa, couldn't, got a Canadian one and was caught at the border three times. Canada wouldn't take him back he was sent to the US and deported.
There was a well publicized case of Kadr, a Canadian citizen operating false charities in Afghanistan who was arrested in Pakistan. His three sons (Cdn citizens) are in Cuba detention.

Just a reminder. September 11/2001 at 9:45 am US air space was shut down. Canada took in all flights at 14 airport between 225 -250 planes. 44, 519 passengers
By 12:15 pm US airspace was secure. Canada had fighter jets in place by 10 am through NORAD.
The commander of operations in the US at Colorado was a Canadian.
In the aftermath of 9/11 skilled and trained people from the Salvation Army through to engineers assisted in the US.

In late 2001 17 Cdn claiments that were Al Qaeda operatives were arrested in other countries.

Do we need to keep working on border issues? Yes.

I hope that corrects the misperception, Glamchild.

Leprosy or Hansons Disease. There are two types.
1 -2 million people world wide are disabled from it. About 8 hundred thousand cases are reported each year. It is spread by respiratory droplets and many people are immune. A multi drug treatment is effective.
I suggest you check the CDC prevelence stats.
It was never 'eradicated' in the US.

As someone who migrated legally and waited nearly 3 decades to get a green card and then a US passport, it always makes my blood boil when criticism of illegals is portrayed as criticism of foreigners.

One thing I'm sure of, encouraging illegals encourages racism/xenophobia as it causes ordinary Americans to associate the bad behavior of the illegals with immigrants in general.

I am discouraged that no political party has figured out a way to marshall the anger of legal immigrants against illegals for a campaign against illegal immigration.

I also think that if it were much easier to keep out and kick out illegals, the INS would not treat legal applicants so badly.

As it stands, those who are outside the country have no rights when applying for a visa, so they can be insulted and abused by petty INS officials with no recourse. Those who get in -- by hook or by crook -- can use every dirty trick in the book to stay in the US. You don't know how many friends from back home I've talked to who are so frustrated by arcane regulations and rude immigration officers that they are tempted to just come over (on a tourist visa) and stay illegally.

La Shawn, that was a good takedown in your post. I'm afraid my response would have been too testosterone-ladened :)

Did you see Michelle's post about that guy who raped and buried that girl was an illegal immigrant?

As for Mexico, we can easily fix their situation, by annexation as a couple of new States. Then we'll only need 1,000 guards along the new border. The benefit is that Mexicans will finally get some of that old-time democracy and improved standard of living. However, I'd insist that they convert to English. ;)

Every State has a National Guard and they train at least 2 weeks per year. The southern border, for the most part,is a lot of desert terrain so why not do the training there? U.S. troops need desert training also and could supplement the border security. As far as that goes, training could be done on both borders and even include the Coast Guard.

Anyone who tries to play "Gotcha!" with Jesus will fail miserably, just like the Pharisees did. Jesus could not have been accepted as a sacrifice for the world's sins if He had not been sinless, completely pure and holy.

"Having kids that someone else has to pay for is a big problem, actus. - Admin "

But anyone can do that, not just immigrants. Immigrants can also take care of their kids. I'm guessing they might even do it better if they were regularized.

And those kids are americans. We can take care of americans can't we?

"There’s also the issue of what Christ says about lawbreaking. Here’s a hint: he doesn’t approve of it."

I'm not too familiar with the life of christ, but I am surprised that he never broke any laws.

"I’m also not thrilled about the audacity that illegal immigrants show when they not only come here with fake papers, but they proceed to have kids. I’d be able to tolerate illegal workers a tad bit more if they would show restraint in procreating."

Whats the problem with having kids?
