dries, but of course they will.

And just the other day, Mbeki demaanded mo'money from Bush for SA, saying, "Mr Bush, you're not going to like this, but..." He also demanded that we quit meddling with poor and misunderstood Bobby who just needs more time up there in Zimbabwe. Excuse me? How long has Robert the Mugger been in power and he just needs more time to kickstart his economy? I guess we better brace for some rhetorical fireworks at the summit next month. Heh.

living in SA is a sufficient punishment for that tweet. but it's sad to see how that country went from apartheid to anarchy in 10 years. it could have been a giant but instead they traded one disfuntional system for another oh, well...i'm sure they will find a way to blame americans for their own failures.

Tiffany, in this case, oppressed parties do desperate things. Your statement has merit if the ONLY way to achieve dignity & self-determination is thru civil violence. Two wrongs don't make right.
the ANC violated more blacks than they did whites. The ANC violated more blacks than whites did blacks. Chew on that.

Not all SA blacks supported ANC (Soviet proxy), not even a majority. Some were quislings, some were more like MLK, then you have the insurgents like the ANC/Islamofascists/KKK.

The difference between us & them, when black SAs were caught acting white, they were klanned, when black Americans were caught acting white, they were mocked

I have no problem discussing sanctions as a matter of foreign policy compared to other FP strategies. But to think sanctions were the only possible solution IS indeed sad.

But that's OK, I understand, this is now and that was then. If according to your other posts, you were raised on the MSM/DNC as the gospel truth and are only now beginning to question everything you hear.

If La Shawn ever goes there, topic-wise, you better be loaded for bear. ;)

I agree that the ANC committed some heinous acts as well but not suprising to me in light of the social structure. Oppressed people do desperate things.

I'm not even going to go there about the fact that you feel SA shouldn't have been sanctioned. I'm just going to leave that alone.

How sad.

Tiffany, I did not say I wish Mandela died. I wondered what would have happened. To wit, had Nelson died, SA would have to examine within themseleves to choose a new leader -- Nelson got a free pass to the presidency as a result of being a living martyr, not his political acumen/abilities.

The consequence is that SAs glossed over many injustices perpetrated by the ANC in order to elevate Nelson. Who invented the burning tire necklace? Did you forget the atrocities commited by Winnie on behalf of ANC?

Again, if there was no Mandela, who would SA pick to be their 1st non-white leader? Would ANC be the only political choice for SA?

As for the sanctions against white SA, I was against it and in hindsight, I'm still against it with regards to SA. It was nothing but a feel-good measure for the liberals just so they could be against Reagan and not on the merits, but that's a whole new topic for suitable for this post.

In spite of all that, I celebrated the release of Mandela, right along with the world to the tune of Simple Minds' Mandela Day (the song jams if you haven't heard it - I don't recall it being a hit here in the US except on Alternative Rock)

That's what it's all about, keeping it real and peeling back the fog of wishful memories. ;)

This is off topic:

I'm very troubled by Andy's comment that he wishes Nelson Mandela had died on that island. That's really evil to say in my opinion. Nelson Mandela helped push South Africa into the 21st century and helped in part to dismantle apartheid. Perhaps, Andy longs for the good old days where people like me chopped cotton under the supervision of an overseer.

That's why I love comment boards, people become unmasked and let their true feelings show.

Thanks Andy for keeping it real!!!

THE FRIEND OF MY ENEMY IS MY ENEMY...
By way of Lashawn Barber I cam across a column written by a Jon Qwelane from www.news24.com. Take a gander at it and you will see that America is really evil and deserved 9/11. Not only that but the incidents at Abu Graib and GITMO were atrocities and barbaric in nature. Although, as far as GITMO is concerned, nothing has proven to be true....

I'm glad we are in agreement.

Unbelievable that this guy says that he's now unsure about whether 9-11 was really a bad thing or not.

I like how Gitmo is cited as the first instance of American distrust & hostility towards Islam. Where was he for 10 - 15 years prior to 2002? I guess Lebanon, WTC I, Kenya, Cole somehow slipped under his radar. Nevermind that Gitmo detainees were caught on the battlefield. He must think they were just innocently picked up off the streets due to racial profiling.
