Ronald Reagan Died A Year Ago Today

ReaganWhere does the time go? I didn’t realize Ronald Reagan has been dead for a year. Has it really been a year?

I wrote this post the day he died. Read what other bloggers are saying:

Brutally Honest: “The (sensible) world misses Ronald Reagan and what the man embodied.”

Right in Texas: “Unarguably, one of this country’s best presidents…”

Iowa Voice: “Reagan will not only be remembered as the man who brought down the Soviet Union and liberated millions (all without firing a shot), but also because he appealed to our best qualities: hard work, self reliance, and compassion for our fellow man.”

Trey Jackson asks for favorite quotes, and Mister Politics has a video tribute.

Media:

Washington Times: “[I]n the meantime, Michael Reagan fondly remembers his dad. He credits his father with helping him renew his Christian faith.”

Douglas Brinkley: “What Reagan was trying to engineer–using the World War II generation and the American flag as his platform–was the creation of a combustible patriotism, one that would spread like wildfire…”

Unrelated Note: Very informative 1974 opinion piece about Watergate and journalism.

RIP, Ronnie!

Good man, a real leader, firmly grounded in principle. We could use someone like him in 2008.

Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II were responsible for the downfall of Communism in the USSR. For many Liberals blame is the word for it.

La Shawn:

I almost passed out last week when Ted Turner commented during 25th anniversary of his beloved CNN.

Turner had the arrogance to claim a place in history alongside of Ronals Reagen, Pope John Paul 2, Margaret Thatcher, and Michael Gorbachev as the most responsible for the fall of Communism.

RedBeard 06.06.05 at 9:11 am

Turner, the Mouth of the South, arrogant? Say it ain’t so! LOL LOL

Comparing Ronald Reagan to Ted Turner is like comparing Mount Rushmore to a dung heap.

Don’t you just love the Johnny come latelys? 8)

Frank, what did Turner claim that CNN did to help?

Seems to me I remember their talking heads screeching about 1) how Reagan was recklessly intent on starting WWIII with USSR, 2) Star Wars was a boondoogle, 3) he was unilaterally upsetting our Euro friends, 4) Bork, 5) Iran/Contra-gate, and on and on and on and on.

President Reagan is my hero. I never had a Grandfather. I took a look around, didn’t see anyone close to me I liked, so I simply assigned President Reagan the role. And, he never let me down.

In all my life, I will never never forget poor Mrs. Reagan crying at the crypt. That image of her is etched in my mind. I’ve never seen anything so heartbreaking. They really loved each other, and I’m sure it’s still hard for her. I need to pray for her.

La Shawn, have you been to the Reagan Memorial in Simi Valley? It’s so touching. You can see the crypt and lay flowers. It’s very solemn, yet extremely peaceful.

The Reagan Library and Museum is one of my favorite places in Southern California.

LaShawn,

Just one thing: the US News commentary is by Douglas Brinkley, not David Brinkley :-)

La Shawn 06.06.05 at 1:39 pm

Thanks!

RedBeard you made my day with that one :)

Reagan he did more then that peanut brained jimmy carter he got the hostages out of iran or you can bet he would have sent in the marines and sent a few ianian fanatics to meet their maker early and he was the victim of a left-wing media smear that didn’t work much better then the crook of today especially slick willie.

A and E network is having a “Greatest American” program and public poll!

You can vote for Reagan at the aol/greatest american web page!

Thanks for reminding me of the link between Al Quaeda and Saddam.
It kills me that the lefties always deny the link between them. It’s obvious. There’s a financial link.
They were both financially backed by this man:
Ronald Regan.

Robert 06.09.05 at 7:56 pm

Oops. Sorry about the spelling: Ronald Reagan.

Andy 06.09.05 at 10:10 pm

Robert,
Just keep trolling
just keep trolling

RedBeard 06.10.05 at 11:17 am

Not that Robert has earned any sort of response, but I find it interesting how he snips small bits of information and creates larger fictitious scenarios using those out-of-context points.

It’s a lot like the blind man who is handed the tail of an elephant, and when asked to describe what kind of animal it is, replies that it’s obviously a snake. Except that Robert can see, so he hasn’t the same excuse. ;)

# 17, sound like anyone else we know? ;)
That’s rhetorical, of course.
