I am a fan of serious discussions. There are times when you rant but often you frame the issue in a way that leads to an intellectual conversation. Even if I disagree with your premise, at least there is the opportunity for discussion.

What is missing in the country is the means for people to disagree without being lynched for those beliefs. Now, I know you catch grief for some of the things you say – and there are times when you deserve it(the generalization you made of Muslims is a good example), but I don’t dislike you because you are a conservative. I am sure there are some that do – as I am sure there are conservatives who can’t stand me because I am a liberal. I suspect that they think that I am a godless man and an undercover socialist… who knows.

However, I have relationship with God and I probably pray and attend church as much as any conservative that posts on your site. I just happend to have a different political philosophy.

I will admit that for a time I associated conservative with being evil – I still think Bush and Jerry Farwell are evil men, but I’ve come down off that a lot. And I know some conservatives folks who thought I was some anti-American atheist that endorsed a welfare state. There is hate on both sides – I’ve felt it and I’ve presented it at times.

Now, I’ve never seen a conservative argue a point that made me change my position – mainly because they all say the same thing the same way. But despite all that, I like coming here to rant and voice my opinion as well as read other people’s opinions on the issues you present.

So, big ups to you – and this from a black man that is a liberal for life

What it was like for The Downtown Guy: Over the past few months, I’ve seen a couple of frequent visitors start their own blogs with an initial intent of also…

I would love to have the time to put up a blog of my own. My life at this time just won’t let me fit it in. My regular job plus my part-time job are tremendous time consumers (I just can’t seem to get the knack for solving complicated crimes in 45 minutes plus commercials). Now couple that with the fact that I’ve now enrolled in a graduate degree program beginning in the fall and soon I will REALLY be pressed for finding any free time. What little time I have to peruse those blogs I semi-regularly visit (all other blogs being secondary to LBC) and comment on, would have to be sacrificed along with some other activity in order to have the time to properly run a blog.

I guess I’ll just have to settle for putting out the occasional brilliant comment at LBC to satisfy what would be my “blogging jones” for now. Besides, we agree so frequently (well, except for that ONE time) that people would think you were writing my posts anyway

I’m not shy about providing my URL–feel free to click on it! My blog is more culture-related than political, but I reserve the right to talk about whatever the heck I want to!

The biggest obstacles for me would be maintenance, content, and enthusiasm. I could see myself running out of ideas, and then what? And then, there’d be the problem of dealing with rude folks, who say things I don’t like. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be half as polite, or patient, as La Shawn.

Someone comes into my house and starts talkin trash……they would be quickly eliminated, never to be heard from again….. I wouldn’t even bother to give warnings. Too much trouble. I’d just zap ‘em.
