The Real Torturers at Gitmo

by La Shawn on June 27, 2005

in War - Islamofascism

Lt. Col. Gordon Cucullu writes:

“After speaking with soldiers, sailors, and civilians who collectively staff Gitmo, I left convinced that abuse definitely exists at the detention facilities, and it typically fails to receive the press attention it deserves: it’s the relentless, merciless attacks on American servicemen and women by these terrorist thugs. Many of the orange jumpsuit-clad detainees fight their captors at every opportunity, openly bragging of their desire to kill Americans. One has promised that, if released, he would find MPs in their homes through the internet, break into their houses at night, and ‘cut the throats of them and their families like sheep.’ Others claim authority and vindication to kill women, children, and other innocents who oppose their jihadist mission authorized by the Koran (the same one that hangs in every cell from a specially-designed holder intended to protect it from a touching the cell floor – all provided at U.S. taxpayer expense).” [Emphasis added] (Source)

Man, some prisoners don’t like their captors. Some are even bad people. Who saw that one coming?

La Shawn 06.27.05 at 5:42 pm

Surprising, isn’t it? Right down to the jihad-sanctioned Koran. I get the sarcasm, but the real surprise is not how abusive these prisoners are to Americans; they’re eighth century animals. It’s to be expected. No, the real surprise is how humanely Americans are treating them although they DON’T deserve it, and how twisted and blind and spoiled Americans commenting on blogs can be (not necessarily you).

I hope the people badmouthing our military and excusing Islamo-fascist murderers meet a couple of Muslim thugs in a dark alley one day (not wishing this on you; just tired of the Gitmo-is-torture idiocy).

ptm 06.27.05 at 6:08 pm

What do you think is the minimum standard by which we should treat any captured prisoners? Do the origins or causes of these prisoners matter?

Jacky Matthews 06.27.05 at 6:35 pm

Yes they should be treated humanely and their causes do not matter. What is galling is the fact that if any of these prisoners were anywhere else except within a prison in a western society they would properly be dead by now.

This fact is never mentioned. Always the Western society is the bad guy. There owe disgraceful treatment of each other isn’t even commented on.

These prisoners supported the Taliban. Have you read what they did to the women of Afghanistan? That in my book is a war crime by it self and for that alone they should be locked up and the key throw away. Why no mention that most of those prisoners supported that disgusting regime.

An Afghan refugee in Australia told how his sister was shot because she left the house to take a sick child to the hospital. Where is her justice? If those prisoners learn anything about what its like not to be able to go outside they might re-think a few things. Mind you they all seem brain washed so I won’t hold my breath.

Those prisoners are a dam sight more lucky than many of the women in Afghanistan.

SCSIwuzzy 06.27.05 at 6:39 pm

Ptm, these prisoners are treated better than any POWs in the entirety of recorded history. (OK, excepting how some ransomed European nobles were treated). They are better than our men and women are treated if captured, better than our boys were treated in previous wars.
What else would you like to see in the way of better treatment?
Cardinal Biggles and the comfy chair?

ptm 06.27.05 at 6:46 pm

I agree that current US detainment facilities and treatment are generally nicer than either historic ones or those of street mobs. I’m not explicitly pushing for nicer facilities or treatment of prisoners. I’m asking what the minimum standard of treatment should be. It’s not clear to me.
Is it just to keep prisoners alive? Is it to be better than the other guy? Is it the Ritz-Carlton?

SCSIwuzzy 06.27.05 at 7:08 pm

ptm,
Not generaly better. Better in every quantifiable way. I was listening to a female arab scholar on the radio Saturday (Pastor Joe Watkins show). Forgive me, but her name slips my mind at the moment. According to her, the jihadis call Gitmo
‘The Jihadist Relaxation Resort and Spa’. They find it laughable that we go to such lengths to treat them so well
While we should strive to stand above the enemy, and even our peers, we should keep in mind that WE HAVE DONE JUST THAT.
Groups like AI, CAIR and certain liberal politicians are just scoring very, very cheap political points.

Jerry McClellan 06.27.05 at 7:11 pm

PTM, the fact that they are still kept alive is enough in my book.Anything else that they get from me should be considered gravy.

ptm 06.27.05 at 7:19 pm

SCSI, apologies if the “generally better” was not strong enough. I meant “better to the extent of my knowledge”. I’m no expert, so I don’t feel comfortable asserting that there haven’t been random outliers somewhere in history. If you’ve done the research, then I’d happily grant “always better” or some such.

BuckTownDusty 06.27.05 at 7:55 pm

LaShawn, surely we could set up some sort of a guest worker program in America for these “abused detainee refugees”. Any Congressperson who either complained about Gitmo, or, supports illegal immigration, can be their guest hosts.

mj 06.27.05 at 8:36 pm

LaShawn: sometimes I wonder if you’re throwing pearls before swine.

I have lived in Illinois for a while now, and I’ve seen and heard enough to know how things work here, and how things get done. Believe it or not, Durbin’s asinine, traitorous remarks will only help to strengthen his chances for reelection. You see, Illinois is this great big state, with numerous different regions and yes, many conservatives. Even Decatur (massive labor vote) and Springfield (numerous government workers) went for Bush. The big problem is that IL’s major population base, Chicago (the toilet bowl of the Midwest) has everyone else in the rest of the state in a virtual headlock. One small dot of dirt on the map decides who gets elected and who doesn’t. Everyone else has no say in any major statewide or national elections. We have no strong conservative leaders here, and the Illinois Republican Party is in the back pocket of the Chicago Democratic Machine. Plus, you basically have 8 million people in Chicago who flat out hate America. Chicagoans live in the world as seen through the eyes of socialism and dependency. Any official who talks down on our way of life or our servicemen has the vote sewn up. And if he needs a little help after all… Well, vote early and often. And of course you can’t disenfranchise the dead up in Chicago. Socialist anti-America Chicago must be stopped. That wretched city is bad news for freedom loving people everywhere.

-John, Rural Central Illinoisan

mj 06.27.05 at 9:08 pm

John, as a Chicago-dweller, I agree with what you’ve said–Durbin said what people want to hear. I’ve met only a few people who like Bush, and conservative ideas are despised. The ultimate Chicago job is a gov’t job, doing hardly any work for lots of pay, benefits, and kickbacks. Having different ideas here is like being in the closet. I’m careful about what I talk about, and to whom. This city isn’t free.

John 06.27.05 at 9:16 pm

MJ,

Oh, and have you seen the latest… Now Barack O(s)ama doesn’t like Honest Abe. These Chicago Democrats are out of control. Right now they’re just strutting their stuff to prove to the world that they can get awat with any old cr*p they feel like pulling. Oh… and my apologies to the few conservative folks up there in Chicago. Not every single Chicagoan is a Marxist. Just about 99% give or take, but not all. I know you are suffering up there. My sympathies go out to you!!! Oh, and when I say Chicago Dems, I also include so called “Republicans” like George Ryan who may as well be Democrats.

actus 06.27.05 at 9:38 pm

“Man, some prisoners don’t like their captors. Some are even bad people. Who saw that one coming?”

They’re saying really mean things.

RedBeard 06.27.05 at 9:52 pm

I was raised in Chicago, and I’m offended by the assertion that 99% of the people there are America-hating socialists who want to live on gubmint jobs.

Boo hoo hoo. The murderous crazy-eyed terrorists who seek to destroy us and our entire way of life and everything we stand for were too cold/hot for a short amount of time. And they even made them listen to the radio. Awe sucks. Durbin is RIGHT!!!!! We must be just like the Soviets in their gulags! How cruel we are to cause the 20th hijackers a small amount of temporary discomfort. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

John 06.27.05 at 10:08 pm

Where I work, it can get over 130 degrees in the plant. If you’re lucky to work mostly outside (as I have been recently) the coolest it ever gets is around 95. Miserable… even dangerous temperatures, for real. We even have to bring our own luch in a box. No catered chicken dinners for us! And I didn’t even get a free prayer rug. Can somebody please call the ACLU?

John 06.27.05 at 10:13 pm

Islamofacist terrorists are not well intentioned misunderstood young men. They know who they are and what they are about as well as anyone. Maybe Senator Durbin wouldn’t be so “open minded” is Zarqawi was in the process of cutting his head off.

And keep a close eye out for Barack Obama. He’s laying low for now… But he will eventually crack. This guy is a liberal as they come. He’s also very crafty and charismatic. Rarely will he ever show his true colors. But when he does… we must be ready to go in for the kill. He is almost as smooth as Clinton and the door won’t stay open for very long.

levi from queens 06.27.05 at 10:31 pm

ptm — my mother told me stories of German POWs who were contracted out as farm laborors in rural Michigan in both world wars. A fair number of them ended up marrying American girls. I’d say that was the best possible treatment of all time.

firebird 06.27.05 at 11:30 pm

The biggist promlems here are the politicians like two certian demacrats

SickAndTired 06.27.05 at 11:34 pm

Redbeard – Tell the 93% to straighten up, they’re makin’ the rest of Chicago look bad.

SickAndTired 06.27.05 at 11:36 pm

I saw an ad the other day for Jihadi Cruise Lines. They’re touting Gitmo as one of their more luxurious stops.

mj 06.27.05 at 11:46 pm

When I dared to tell some people in my family and a few others that Obama is not good (ie, socialist, transfer of wealth, not for self-starters or the truly motivated), it was as if I was expressing blasphemy. Chicago isn’t necessarily liberal, but it’s a corrupt, one-party system. And I agree about Ryan–a total disgrace.

Lyn 06.28.05 at 7:41 am

Just about any military operation must be evaluated as a mixed bag of successes and failures and analyzed with the mindset of gaining lessons learned to improve in the future. No decision is taken in a vacuum, but rather arrived at based upon situational awareness and within the context of the totality of the circumstances. So to heap perfectionist blame upon the soldiers carrying out prisoner detail is unfair at best. While concern for the civil rights of the prisoners and their legal status is both valid and humane, this concern should not blind those who would criticize the military. be fair and objective.

Dan 06.28.05 at 8:13 am

Sorry, they are enemies. They’re not enemy combatants, just enemies. They’re terrorists and deserve no let or quarter. In fact, they should be drawn and quartered.

If these people, ever so gently I’m sure, because they really REALLY care about the Geneva Convention, took you hostage, you’d find your head at your feet, before and after it was cut off.

Sorry, but you whining liberals NEED to be hostages for a while to understand that Gitmo isn’t nearly as bad as it SHOULD be.

pajamazon 06.28.05 at 9:00 am

Until we have the courage to walk down the cell-line at Gitmo and shoot every one of those animals inside of their cages we will be at a disadvantage. When we’ve gotten the info we need we should quietly kill them.
This is war, not cops and robbers! Fear is still a better motivator than a sense of well-being! When these cowardly freaks learn that we can go just as low as they can they will begin to have second thoughts about challenging us! When we spell out who the Geneva conventions apply to and who they do not. And If you’re one of those who are not afforded it’s protections you have MUCH TO FEAR! We will use ANY methods we choose to extract info from you, and then we’ll feed you to the hogs!

Raymond 06.28.05 at 10:01 am

AMEN PAJAMAZON….now THAT is the spirit needed to fight and win a war.

About time someone finally gets it and has the courage, like me to say so.

To win a war, you have to destroy the enemy. simple. Use him to get the information you need, then eliminate him from the combat picture so you don’t EVER have to face him again.

actus 06.28.05 at 10:15 am

“We will use ANY methods we choose to extract info from you, and then we’ll feed you to the hogs!”

Our keyboards will flow with the blood of the infidels.

SCSIwuzzy 06.28.05 at 10:28 am

And they shall stand knee deep in the blood of their own children.
Wasn’t that in the Iranian aceeptance speech after the recent ‘election’?

Raymond 06.28.05 at 10:30 am

Actus would prefer starting a milk and cookies drive for the detainees at Gitmo. He is asking all peace-loving “American” citizens to send cookies, dounuts, stuffed animals (preferably with knives and files inside) and Barrystafah Manilowhommed CDs to calm the fears of these poor, lonely men so far away from home.

actus 06.28.05 at 10:40 am

Thanks for sharing this La Shawn. I forwarded it to a few coworkers. :)

Baklava 06.28.05 at 1:18 pm

Actus, I’m sure there has been 100 times worse written from keyboards that were typed on by victims of criminals.

But I believe Lt. Col. Gordon Cucullu makes you look silly.

Andy 06.28.05 at 1:30 pm

‘Nuff said,

Pakistanis freed from Guantanamo Bay claimed Monday they saw American interrogators throw, tear and stand on copies of Islam’s holy book, and one former detainee said naked women sat on prisoners’ chests during questioning.

The Pentagon denied the accusations and said al-Qaida training manuals instruct prisoners to make such false charges.

The men acknowledged they were aware of the international furor caused by previous reports about Quran desecrations. Such reports triggered protests across the Islamic world and deadly riots in Afghanistan last month.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050627/ap_on_re_as/pakistan_guantanamo

Raymond 06.28.05 at 1:39 pm

How is it possible to “abuse” a mere book the enemy uses as his inspiration and permission for killing you?

There are only TWO religious books US Soldiers should be concerned with protecting and those are the Torah and the Bible. The basis for OUR Judeo-Christian founding principles.

Anything else is just a book.

SCSIwuzzy 06.28.05 at 2:35 pm

Nah, Bak, he makes himself look silly.
However, I do give props for the milk an cookies joke. This may be the first intentionally funny thing I’ve seen to date ;)

SickAndTired 06.28.05 at 4:09 pm

Naked women on their chests? Give me more of that! I’ll tell you anything you want to know.

Baklava 06.28.05 at 4:14 pm

So true SCSI.

SickAndTired 06.28.05 at 4:15 pm

Would this be considered torture? 24/7 playing of mind-numbingly inane Noam Chomsky speeches.

Baklava 06.28.05 at 4:22 pm

Or Ann Coulter and Alan Colmes debates? :)

Chris Roberts 06.28.05 at 5:46 pm

We treat them better because we are better. Any group that shows such ill regard for human life…wait I can say this about the pro-choicer’s too can’t I…is inherently inferior.

Of course, our lib pro-choice friends think that if we leave them alone, they will leave us alone. How little do they pay attention to the havoc being wrecked by Islamofacists across Europe. If we are as tolerant, worse will happen here. How little do people realize that this IS a war between cultures. Our opponent seeks to destroy our culture and nation as soon as possible.

Lyn 06.29.05 at 11:01 am

Mr. Roberts above makes the correct, succinct point that we treat them better because we are better. As a Christain and as an American, I think I feel representative of most by being frustrated for obeying rules of civilization and humanity when we are dealing with a class that respects neither. This may seem radical, but we need to re-examine the Geneva Convention rules to allow for the new globalization reality in which we find ourselves. The days of facing a massed, uniform force of divisions and classical military organizations may be behind us for the forseeable future. What we will face in this conflict is loosely organized, but lethal combatants with no clear sovereign, but a distinct and clear goal of evil and destruction.
