The Culture is So Degraded…

in Cultural Decline

this chick might actually become the next mayor of Durham, North Carolina. A woman named Jackie Wagstaff thinks she’s qualified to run the city. Her qualifications:

  • Convicted of falsifying city documents as a director of a non-profit group three years ago.
  • Evicted from her house/apartment twice two years ago for not paying rent.
  • Banned from a middle school. (Does why really matter?)
  • Poor impulse control demonstrated by outbursts during school board meetings.

Deviancy has been defined so far down in this country, Jackie Wagstaff just might be the next mayor of Durham, North Carolina.

Oh goody she isnt interested in naught else but cleaning up the inner city. (see giving hand outs). I wonder where she will get the money from, no doubt by raiding white-ish schools and areas to pay for upscale renovations to areas that will rip them down in a year.

DragonLady 08.05.05 at 9:22 am

“I didn’t start nothing.” Apparently she didn’t learn proper English either. I might not be a smart girl, but I know what a double-negative is.

Hi La Shawn! Trackbacks aren’t working for me on your site, but I’m linking to a couple of your posts! This one ties in nicely with my “Women in the White House” post.

Speaking of culture degeneration. Two topics:

Is anyone else incensed about the arrest of the father who refused to leave a school administrators office until he was given the option of not allowing his kid to have to read a bokk on diversity? That book promoted homosexual families and the pervert lifestyles as normal. It was clearly an indoctrination manual.

Second topic. Am I the only one who has noticed the blatant homosexual themes of the Burger King restaurant commercials? You know, the ones with the King in the bed with a man offering him breakfast and then at the window of another man who is sneaking to avoid his wife and have breakfast with the gay “King” character.

Quite sickening.

Eddie 08.05.05 at 9:58 am

Of course the fact that she just so happens to be a person of color makes the story that much worse. It immediately brings to mind some of the horror stories I’ve heard about the local government of Prince George’s County in MD.

Tony 08.05.05 at 10:09 am

Raymond,

“Is anyone else incensed about the arrest of the father who refused to leave a school administrators office until he was given the option of not allowing his kid to have to read a book on diversity?”

Why should anyone be incensed about the arrest? The rest of the facts, perhaps, but the arrest? The father refused to leave the school, even after being asked to leave by administrators and police. They didn’t surprise him with it. If given such a warning, he should’ve left. He would’ve avoided arrest and he still could’ve worked with the school (whether through its administrators, the school board, or the legal system) to address his grievance. But the arrest? No, I’m not incensed. Isn’t a minimum of respect for law and order what we’re supposed to value as a society?

As for the second topic, I didn’t think about it long enough to read that much into it the only time I’ve seen it. I guess it’s possible to see that in the commercial, if you really wanted to.

Ignorance and/or corruption knows NO color, for all you folks trying to go there because she’s black.

She is no worse than the white mayor of San Diego who was forced to resign because he was corrupt or the mayor of Spokane, Washington who can’t figure out whether he’s gay or not but gives internships to 2 young men he met in gay chat rooms.

Stupid is stupid.

Period.

Raymond 08.05.05 at 10:20 am

#8 Tony Toni Tone Do you think you scored any points by mistakenly trying to apply misdirection tactics on a much more sophisticated blogdom demographic than you are used to?

….dadgum liberals……

Eddie 08.05.05 at 10:29 am

“Ignorance and/or corruption knows NO color, for all you folks trying to go there because she’s black.”

Tiffany,
Pleae keep in mind that I am a black man so I feel I have every right to “go there”. I couldn’t agree with you more in that corruption and stupidity are colorblind. My point was that as a black person, people like Ms. Wagstaff make all of us look bad as far as perpetuating stereotypes and preconceived notions that some have about us.

The Boston Globe
Arrested father had point to make
Disputed school’s lesson on diversity

By Maria Cramer and Ralph Ranalli, Globe Staff | April 29, 2005

CONCORD — For David Parker, the first alarm went off in January, when his 5-year-old son came home from his kindergarten class at Lexington’s Joseph Estabrook School with a bag of books promoting diversity.

Inside were books about foreign cultures and traditions, along with food recipes. There was also a copy of ”Who’s In a Family?” by Robert Skutch, which depicts different kinds of families, including same-sex couples raising children.

The book’s contents concerned Parker and prompted him to begin a series of e-mail exchanges with school officials on the subject that culminated in a meeting Wednesday night with Estabrook’s principal and district director of instruction. The meeting ended with Parker’s arrest after he refused to leave the school, and the Lexington man spent the night in jail……….

This is the crime that Jackie committed…..

“Jackie Wagstaff pleaded guilty Monday to two misdemeanors after she allegedly altered city documents to help kids attend a field trip.”

Let’s not crucify a sister for helping her own people out. I think when some people feel so strongly for a certain cause, they don’t know how to contain themselvees in a professional manner. Unfortunately Jackie uses too much emotion during her arguments….

“This is the crime that Jackie committed…..

“Jackie Wagstaff pleaded guilty Monday to two misdemeanors after she allegedly altered city documents to help kids attend a field trip.””

Let’s ask this: Was it a crime? That’s all that matters. “Breaking” the law in the name of good is still breaking the law…and it is wrong.

More moral relatavism to come save the day.

Tony 08.05.05 at 12:32 pm

Raymond,

I was not trying to score points, nor was I using misdirection. I parsed your original question into its two components, the subject of the disagreement and the arrest. The book set up the situation in which Mr. Parker could be arrested, but it didn’t get him arrested. His refusal to leave caused that. The excerpt of the article you reprinted revealed that.

Also, you’re the only one who said I’m liberal.

Andy 08.05.05 at 12:34 pm

I guess a sound character and of good report means nothing to her supporters. Just what America needs, another BAMN’er.

Tony 08.05.05 at 12:34 pm

Aloiis,

If Ms. Wagstaff can’t conduct herself in a professional manner, she shouldn’t be mayor, regardless of how good the cause may be.

Raymond 08.05.05 at 1:19 pm

Sooooo Tony, do you want to play semantic games or address the issue you clearly know is germane?

Charlie 08.05.05 at 3:17 pm

Given the history of the Durham city goverment in the last few years nothing would supprise me. This is the same goverment that, over the past five years, has caught the city manager in multiple under the table deals with contractors and was slow to act. She also bungled the firing and hiring of a couple of police cheif’s, yet the city kept her on.

The school board it’s self was on the local nightly news on an almost daily basis last year due to screaming matches between board members and the people that actualy showed up for meetings. Usualy the police would have to be called in to break it up, or to break up the near riots outside of the meetings after the board passed new rules saying that topics, and/or speakers outside of the board members themselves had to be approved of by the board before they were heard. That whole city is in a mess, and electing this woman would be just about par for the course there.

ratso ferrari 08.05.05 at 3:55 pm

Send this woman to New Jersey. Compared to our politicians she is as clean as the wind driven snow.

Andi 08.05.05 at 7:08 pm

It’s not as if Wagstaff’s crimes, and tendency to exercise poor judgment, happened a decade or so ago. It would seem that she’s an adult who refuses to behave in a responsible manner. Installing someone like this in a position of leadership can only serve to harm those whom she would be representing.

“The time is for us to clean up Durham — clean up youth problems,” Wagstaff said. “We’ve got a lot of problems in Durham.”

Is Wagstaff the best person they can find to clean up Durham? My guess is, should she be elected, the real clean up would be necessary after she leaves office.

La Shawn is correct, our culture is declining, and that hurts us as a nation – badly.

Tony 08.05.05 at 7:38 pm

Raymond,

Call it semantics if you want, but I responded to your original point, which, as written by you, focused on the arrest. That was not caused by the school using the book. However, if I accept what I believe was your assumption, that the arrest was a result of the school using the book, I still contend that I offered alternatives that the father could’ve chosen. He did not. You may see him as a victim, but I prefer to filter his refusal to leave the school through a view personal responsibility. He was in control of his actions and must accept the consequences. Unless you’re suggesting that parents should stage sit-ins and get themselves arrested when they disagree with their school district’s policy?

If you’d wanted to have a discussion about the book, focus on that instead of the arrest. Write something like “Is anyone else incensed about the book that the administrators exposed children to without the parents’ consent.”

That is what’s germane to the question you posed.

Montie 08.05.05 at 8:05 pm

Raymond and Tony,

Surely you both realize that your off-topic exchange has now wandered into “thread hijacking” territory don’t you?

As to the topic at hand. How exactly has this woman managed to be elected to both the city council and the school board given her irresponsibility in both her personal and professional life? Apparently the voters in Duram are as forgiving of poor personal and professional conduct as those of Washington DC.

Incidentally, the initial charges against Ms. Wagstaff were Felonies. They were downgraded during the plea bargaining process to misdemeanors, most likely due to a couple of factors. First, the fact that she is an elected official means that prosecutors were more lenient from the start than they would have been against someone less in the public eye (I can almost guarantee this is true based on years of dealing with prosecuting attorneys). Second, it is much more cost effective to have a suspect plead guilty to a misdemeanor than to go to trial over a felony, if it can be arranged during plea bargaining (and the prosecutor still gets to show it as a conviction).

jan brauner 08.05.05 at 9:39 pm

Dragonlady;
Uh oh! Priya Parmar, assisstant professor of Adolescent Education at Brooklyn college, who teaches graduate and undergraduate courses to aspiring teachers would take great exception to poking fun at any grammatical faux pas…She states that “to insist on grammatical English is to exhibit an intolerable form of cultural chavinism.” “Proper english is the language of white oppressors.” Any society that would entrust its children to the likes of Priya Parmar, deserves a mayor like Jackie Wagstaff! And let’s all take off to Mars…..

jan brauner 08.05.05 at 9:58 pm

According to WRAL, Flagstaf was involved in a whopping forty cases, extreme even for a ‘much maligned’ do-gooder. Further, her landlord claims that she owed him $2,900 for back rent and and has an outstanding debt of $39,000 for the non-profit firm that she managed…or, mis-managed. These are just for starters. Her story is so like the one in the Astin Statesman, where there was a screaming headline about a man who was thrown in jail for over twenty years for merely stealing a tv set.Upon investigation, his record reveals a conviction record of twenty-six previous crimes, including violent felonies. Truth can sure get in the way sometimes…..

Independent 08.06.05 at 12:32 am

I don’t want to get involved in thread jacking, but the exchange between Raymond and Tony brought up an interesting point.

Tony wrote, “…Unless you’re suggesting that parents should stage sit-ins and get themselves arrested when they disagree with their school district’s policy?”

What is going on in our schools and government may actually scream for such a response from the tax payers these institutions are supposed to serve. The liberals pushed their agenda through with mass sit-ins and protests. Perhaps it is time to organize ourselves in a similar manner. Of course conservative protests would look a bit different – less vulgarity, better grooming, and of course more clothing. I live in NC and Durham is definitely in need of a little conservative protest.

Mark Slater 08.06.05 at 3:19 am

Raymond: That he even sent his child to public school in Massachusetts was his first mistake. To me, anyway, even living in Massachusetts has only slightly more appeal than residing in Cuba.

That lady running for mayor in N.C.? Sure! It’d never be boring.

jan brauner 08.06.05 at 9:27 am

Thread-jacking…I like that word and must add it to my repetoire…..About the guy who protested the homosexual indoctrination. Sometimes, there is such a feeling of helplessness to change the ’system’, that I can sympathise with his feelings. Recently, I testified before the Texas legislature, and was stunned by the disdain and non-responsiveness of the liberal legislators, who were certain that they needed all of our money because they had a dream of the ‘perfect (redistributive) society’. Only problem is, I don’t want to live in it, and couldn’t afford to if I did. But, what was obvious, was how little effect one person has by themselves, which is why blogging is so great, because it gets the truth out en masse, and lots of people can make a change. Voila!

RedBeard 08.06.05 at 11:27 am

There’s a fine line between legal actions and illegal but moral actions. Sometimes legality does not jibe with morality, and civil disobedience, to some degree, is justified.

All Rosa Parks did was to sit down, but her action became a cause, then a movement, then a law, and finally captured the hearts and minds of the people. Pretty good result, I’d say, for a simple and very mild act of civil disobedience.

For that matter, Lexington and Concord represented an illegal act, but I’m pretty happy with the outcome.

jan brauner 08.06.05 at 12:03 pm

I revise my comments…one person can make a change. Rosa Parks did.

Raymond 08.06.05 at 3:47 pm

Jan, While Rosa Parks gets the credit for setting off the “Civil Rights Movement” she was hardly the first to ever refuse to give up her seat to a white person on a bus. In fact, many did and the most prominent incident occured when Ms. Claudette Colvin, the ACTUAL “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement” refused to give up her seat, but alas, she was not marketable for the NAACP. Unfortunately for history, Claudette was a teen, single, pregnant woman and was distasteful for the NAACP elites to put forth as their poster child for the movement.

She was therefore relegated to footnote status and fair-skinned, attractive, active NAACP member and organizational employee Rosa Parks was given the face of the movement and the title and erroneous place in revised history.

Rosa even admitted that she didn’t necessarily act on principle as much as she did because she was just tired.

-Rep. John Conyers
-Rep. Sheila Jackon Lee (of giving hurricanes black ghetto names fame)

- Racist, hysterical, uncivil, left wing lunatic Julianne Malveaux
- Militant racist black muslim Malik Shabazz
- Dyed in the wool, card-carrying racist and scheister extraordinaire Calypso Louie Farrakhan
- Tired old, do anything for a buck cartoon character Al sharpton

NCAA American Indian mascot ban will begin Feb. 1ESPN.com news services

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA banned the use of American Indian mascots by sports teams during its postseason tournaments, but will not prohibit them otherwise………

The “Right Not To Be Offended?”

Even though I hail from a rival institution, I stand with Florida State on this.

RedBeard 08.06.05 at 7:52 pm

FSU has the backing of the Seminole Tribe. The Seminole council voted to send a statement of the tribe’s approval of the use of the Seminole name by the university, and they even gave the NCAA a little slap by asking that other organizations respect their decision.

And still the prissy PC gang at the NCAA passes this imbecilic ban. I saw someone, can’t remember where, asking if the NCAA might have bigger priorities, like, oh, I dunno, actually seeing to it that student athletes get an education in between football games. ;)

If I sit because I’m tired, but in the “wrong seat” I’ve broken the law, yes, but here, too, I am wrong?

If I am taxed but not represented and I destroy the tea that is bought with my taxes, I’ve broken the law, but I am wrong, still?

Ms. Wagstaff doesn’t make ME look bad any more than Shaquille O’Neal makes me look tall. The sharing of a common biology is just that and no more. I know of not a single White person who felt, or should have felt guilty over the actions of Timothy McVie. I realize that we have a different historical pathology, but individuals are, after all, individual.

This Jackie Wagstaff has an impressive resume! Unhinged is good – at least it will help you become a rising political star in a certain major political party in this country.

Forget this being mayor stuff! If Jackie can provide proof that she has, say, left a young woman trapped in a car to drown, then she will have all the credentials needed to be the Democratic presidential nominee.

Wackie Jackie in ‘08 !
