#31. Thank you Independent. Your Grandfather sounds like a great American. I get most of who I am now from my father. Actually from most of my family. We only know one way how to say it. Just give me the truth. It makes for much better relationships. We don’t have many family arguments because everyone knows pretty much where everyone stands and that is respected.

Imagine this. My father and I albeit very close even pledged rival fraternities in college. While I was slated to attend his college as a legacy, I instead chose to be the first in my family not to attend this famous Atlanta HBCU and instead went with my second choice to attend a very large, predominanatly white, Florida university famous for kicking the crap out of the school who has a painted man in a dress riding a spotted dog carrying a FLAMING (no pun intended spear), but I digress….

The point I am trying to make is that I come from a family of 4 brothers. No sisters. Major testosterone. In the same household, we have college football players, combat veterans, Gator, Nole and Cane fans. You do the math.

We get right to the point.

Keep laying ‘em low Independent. We don’t have to always agree, but it is good to know that there are people out there who just want the facts and just give the facts.

Perhaps I’m not a Democrat, after all. Maybe instead of being a Dem who leans right, it’s possible that I’m a Repub who leans a bit left. My husband jokes that I’m a conservative in denial, and maybe he’s right – I do hold a more conservative stance on a great many issues than most liberals.

And when I spoke of Christians showing tolerance earlier up the thread, I used the “t” word with your first definition in mind (”…that even though I disagreed vehemently with your view, I treated you with respect and kindness”), though I wasn’t able to define it as precisely as you’ve done.

Being a little older than most commenters I can say that I used to be tolerant and now I’m intolerant. No, I didn’t change but the defination of tolerance in this PC country did.
It used to be a virtue. It used to mean that even though I disagreed vhemently with your view, I treated you with respect and kindness. Now it means that I am to accept your view, no matter what it is, as having equal value in the marketplace of ideas. With this definition I’m being asked to call good what God calls evil. Sorry, if God calls it evil, I’m not going to disagree with Him to be PC.
In my view Sodom and Gamorah weren’t destroyed for homosexuality but for the general acceptance of it. Abraham got God down to 10 righteous in the whole population and there apparently weren’t even 10 offended by the sinfulness of those cities. Jesus often is portrayed as loving(which He is)and tolerant(maybe by the old definition true also)and a pacifist. I think there are many crooked temple moneychangers who interacted with Him personally who would disagree especially if given today’s definitions.
It appears that Dell and I both want a theocracy. No not like the one in Iran or even one here with some “Christian”guy telling us what God says. We want the real deal with Theos, read that Jesus, sitting on the throne. Look forward to meeting many of you in person there.

Raymond, you remind me of my late grandpa. He talked like you – no nonsense and to the point. He was also quite irreverent and enjoyed making people squirm when faced with a little bit of “hometruths.” I don’t always agree, but I do a great deal of the time. Irregardless, opinions stated honestly and without equivication is refreshing.

Wow, so much to digest. And laugh at. This is what happens when you dare to assume SO much about a person simply because they identify themselves as a liberal.

Just because I feel like indulging you:

First of all, I don’t automatically sort everything into black/white or good/bad categories. To do so is ridiculous.

Secondly:
I don’t smoke dope, and don’t thing drugs should be legalized.
I have great kids (and not just by own admission) because my spouse and I have made it priority ONE and chosen to raise them as good and moral people. I don’t think Christians are bad.
I don’t think Jews are bad.
I think hypocrites are bad.
I think racism is bad.
I think the military is very necessary, and in fact, am married to a service member.

I could go on and on and pick apart your quaint little list of Democratic Values, but I think I’ve already made my point.

#25. “LaShawn”: Yes, I’ve read the Bible. However, I wasn’t asking for book recommendations (you think I’ve never been urged to read it?)… I was asking for personal viewpoints about Christianity and tolerance.

Now did I SAY you asked for recommendations? If you read the Bible, study and understand it, you’d know the nature of the God Christians worship instead of reciting your own philosophical ideas about who He is. – Admin

#24. Christians are not tolerant of everything. Where did you get that from. In fact, Christ is quite the intolerant of satanic filth like homosexuality. He destroyed two entire cities in a hail of fire and brimstone to prove it.

I know what you are saying. Christ didn’t do that. God did that. Well, Christ Incarnate didn’t do it, but Christ as a member of the Holy Trinity in the person of His Father (confused yet?) did do it and was quite clear that He is INTOLERANT of homosexual filth.
