Look, no one would say that NO illegals have ever voted. But lets be serious – illegal immigrants are not very interested in voting in US elections. By and large, they just want to work and send some money home to their families. And you can’t say that Mr Villaraigosa won because of illegal immigrants voting! Please – he won handily and with broad support. I am sorry if having an Hispanic mayor somehow turns your stomach, but he won fair and square, with the votes he got from legal US citizens.

America has the right to make sure that everyone who is here came here legally for all of the reasons I posted above. To resort to name calling doesn’t further your debate. To not recognize the facts of the impact doesn’t further your debate. To post the sentence you posted above really damages your debate and will do more to convert newbie political types to conservativism than liberalism.

btw, I am well aware of the differences between the terms Mexican, Hispanic, and Latino. Instead of distracting us with your knowledge of racial/ethnic terms, why don’t you get back to debating the issue at hand?

I wasn’t implying. I was stating cold, hard fact.

I also agree with you that neither party will do anything. I take it for granted that the democrats won’t do anything. They’re afraid that taking any action against illegal immigration will get them labeled as racists. Certainly, statements like yours about the danger of specifically “non-white” immigrants helps create the appearance that opposition to immigration is tantamount to racism. I don’t think it’s necessary or correct to focus on skin color here, I don’t think there’s any difference between how these immigrants act as compared to prior waves of white immigrants.

You’re right about the Latino vote. Both parties want to court them, although the GOP is new to that game. Unfortunately, this will only snowball as more illegal Latinos make it here. However, as successive generations assimilate and view themselves as American, I would expect more of them to take similar positions on illegal immigration. I’ll admit this is just a guess and a hope, but I think it’s quite reasonable. After all, that’s what happened to the Irish and Italians.

Looking beyond the name calling of racist and nimrod, you show your incorrectness again by asserting your knowledge that illegal aliens can’t vote. Almost every government service office in CA (which doesn’t only give services to citizens) has Voter forms and you only need an address (no proof of citizenship) and some other information. When you go to the polls in CA you are not asked for an ID. There are areas in LA that get more votes than # of citizens living in the area. How is that possible. It’s hard when you are challenged Aaron. I know. I used to be a liberal also. Everything you are hearing is contrary to what you are used to hearing on the mainstream press…

Illegal Immigration has the following impacts:
1) National Security – Top priority
2) Financial – you claim is negligible but you fail to see the informatio on the web sites that La Shawn gave you – 10 billion is spent just in CA giving services to people who shouldn’t even be here (not here legally)
3) Environmental – I’m appealing to your liberal views by challenging you to look at the environmental impact of some of the subpar communities (areas the size of many acres) where the environment is not kept up. Not to mention the impact to the border area where trash, backpacks, excrement, erosion and what not is going on.
4) Health – There are many doctors who’ve written about the concerns regarding the spread of tuberculosis and how it’s coming in from illegal immigrants and it was a disease that was once whooped here in America. It would seem that anyone would be concerned not just about Tuberculosis but any viruses coming in from people that aren’t coming legally (therefore we can’t track them).

As for Mexican illegals not being able to vote in LA? I’d like to order up one super-sized reality check for Aaron. I guess you also missed Villarigosa’s quote where he said “Mexican national policy will have a roll in my government and decison making process.”

Just asking? If that is the case, then Democrats are in worse trouble than I thought. Americans like money, Hmmm. Democrats can’t argue that illegals are coming here for that all encompassing American dream and then turn around a spit on those that have the initiative and tenacity to fufill that dream. If Democrats are anti-business, then they are anti-American and their days are numbered. Any party with a philosophy that boils down to, “we’ll support you when your weak and dependent, but villify you when you become productive and succesful” will not be allowed into power in America. Frankly, I don’t think the Republicans or the Democrats will activly do anything about the immigration problem because of that all important latino vote. That is where both parties fail miserably. Leaders should not court demographics, but should stand and fight for those policies that make the whole of America stronger. Republicans have done a better job of making people feel like they are looking out for the good of the nation, but it’s a slim margin of differnece in my opinion.
