Arrest in Tamika Huston Case

THAt long last, someone has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Tamika Huston, missing since May 2004. The man is someone she knew, of course, a 25-year-old convicted felon. From USAToday:

Hampton was not incarcerated when Huston disappeared in May 2004. At that time, Spartanburg Director of Public Safety Tony Fisher said Friday, Hampton was living in an apartment where a significant amount of Huston’s blood was later found.

Huston is presumed dead because of the large amount of blood discovered in the apartment. Fisher said “forensic evidence” has given his department what it needs to charge Hampton with murder, but he would not comment further during a news conference in Spartanburg.

Violent crimes against young women are perpetrated, typically, by someone they know. In an age where families are scattered, societal mores are loosened, and black women in particular tend to grow up without fathers around to teach them how women should be treated, what kind of men to avoid, etc., navigating the dating world can be treacherous and sometimes fatal.

Let this be a lesson for you single ladies out there. Yes, people can change for the better, turn their lives around and become productive, law-abiding citizens. But as a rule of thumb, don’t date convicted felons, ex or otherwise.
