Washington Post Withdraws Free Ad Offer for 9/11 event…

Is the Washington Post just as fearful that withdrawing the free ad offer will be perceived as “opposing” the war, which may compromise its “journalistic integrity?”

First-class dunces.

Why should a newspaper give free advertisement — actual advertisement, not coverage — to a political rally?

Larry 08.16.05 at 5:09 pm

That’s ridiculous. I wonder who pressured them into changing their minds? How does honoring the victim of 9/11 correlate to supporting the war?

ptm 08.16.05 at 6:02 pm

First off, the Post said that they would donate the money to the Pentagon Memorial Fund, a fund for a memorial for the DC victims of 9/11. They’re still supporting 9/11 victims.

Second off, Larry – honoring 9/11 victims shouldn’t be combined with supporting the war. That’s the Post’s point. They think that this event, ostensibly to honor 9/11 victims, will have a pro-war slant. Whether they’re right on that or not, outside the op-ed page newspapers do generally try to avoid both apparent and actual conflicts of interest.

Chuck 08.16.05 at 9:17 pm

Yeah, well, Sun Young Moon owns the Washington Times.

“That’s ridiculous. I wonder who pressured them into changing their minds? How does honoring the victim of 9/11 correlate to supporting the war?”

G.W. Bush, D. Rumsfeld, C. Rice, D. Cheney, P. Wolfowitz, R. Perle, D. Feith and a cast of a few dozen more have made recognition of 9/11 into support for the morass we have been tricked into in Iraq.

All Americans, as they hear Bush invoke the memory of 9/11 at every turn of events, need to ponder the real question: Which came first…the chicken or the egg?

Dan 08.17.05 at 8:28 am

ALL Americans? Don’t put words in my mouth that I didn’t say, or thoughts in my head that I didn’t think, Zorro. All LIBERAL Americans without a whit of wit might ponder those questions. Americans with a modicrum of intelligence and common sense don’t.

The more important question to me is not whether the pre-war intelligence was right (and let’s see….who did we have gathering intelligence…An ‘undercover’ CIA Operatives husband, who she recommended, who by the way was against any action…seems a bit unethical to me), but rather who is or could be a threat in the future…..And Iraq would be a threat if we left it alone.

Not supporting the War would dishonor 911 victims.

Just read Andy McCarthy’s dolumn in National Review Online from June 29 2005.

Clinton responsble for 9/11. No doubt about it. The evidence was clear then and it is clear now. No one was fooled by that bogus 9/11 Commission Report. Clinton stupidly treating terrorism as a police or legal issue caused the deaths of thousands.

He turned down the chance to take Bin Laden into custody from the Sudanese, he played with and ingnored the threat that was Saddam Hussein, he pardoned terrorists who actualy had blood on their hands (FALN)and he ran from Mogadishu with his tali between his legs which only emboldened the terrorists more.

Under Clinton the following occured:

- The infamous “wall of separation” was created with the help of 9/11 Commission hack Jamie Gorelick

- 9/11 Terrorists enter nation

- 9/11 Terrorists train for attack

- US Rangers and Delta Force denied, Abrams, Apache and AC-130 Spectre Gunship support for raid. 19 Special Ops soldiers die and their bodies drug through the streets of Mogadishu. Clinton punks up and runs home not letting the Rangers go back in to complete the mission. The name “clinton” is forbidden to be spoken in the 75th Ranger Regiment.

- Clinton turns down offer to take custody of Bin Laden. The results?…

- Two US Embassies destroyed in Africa

- WTC 1993

- US Embassy in Riyhad bombed

- USS Cole bombed in Saudi

- Khobar Towers barracks bombed in Saudi

- WTC Bombing 9/11

If Cindy Sheehan wants to blame anyone for this skirmish in Iraq, the war on islam and the death of her son, seems to me that all evidence of crime points to the terrorists and their number one enabler Bill Clinton.

Isn’t it obvious that the “Wash Post” is more interested in marching (goose-stepping in cadence) to the demands of the increasingly Stalinized “Democratic” (what a joke!) Party?

The Howard Dean Stalinists don’t care one whit about the concerns of the American people. All they care about is preserving the economic priorities of the economic liberal scum flies hovering over the latrine called Air America!

nyblues 08.18.05 at 1:03 am

Raymond,

You can’t be serious about Clinton being to blame for 9/11. Need I remind you that Clinton was out of office for 9 months when 9/11 happened.

W, our “fearless” leader was warned in the form of a PDB on August 6th of 2001 and did absolutely nothing with the intel. No cabinet meetings, nothing.

W also did nothing during the attack besides reading My Pet Goat. How’s that for responsiveness?

The current debacle in Iraq and the security failure on 9/11 both happened on W’s watch. Please tell me how logically you can connect Clinton to Iraq. That’s rich.

Raymond 08.18.05 at 9:29 am

#11. Not in anyway implying nyblue is a dummy. Typing too fast.

nyblues. You have every right as an American to be confused, but your confusion does not change the facts. Your offering of selected facts in a feeble attempt to support your sight does not tip the scales of evidence in your favor.

Let’s try this experiment with you.

Little Johnny is also a little dummy, can’t read or write or do math and we find out that he has been socially promoted at every level, but wait, there is more. Little Johnny also happens to be a gifted athlete and is scouted heavily by the big universities. Now here comes the trick nyblue:

When Little Johnny takes the SAT or ACT and fails all but the signing of name, who should get the blame for him not being able to read? The 12th grade teacher or the 11 other teachers he had the previous 11 years where reading was supposed to be taught? Don’t hurt yourself on this one.

Try this one. You buy a nice shiny car and as soon as you buy it you find out that it runs poorly due to years of poor maintenance on the engine and other vital parts. Who’s fault is that the car runs like crap? Yours or the previous owner’s?

Wow,
nyblues cluelessness is amazing…

nyblues 08.18.05 at 10:17 am

Raymond,

Please save your experiments for your remedial logic class.

I stated nothing but facts about W’s lack of responsiveness to pre-9/11 intelligence.

Unless you can refute my point and tell me that the August 6th, 2001 Presidential Daily Briefing titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US” did NOT exist, then you don’t have a leg to stand on in this issue. 9/11 was W’s watch. The buck stops with him.

By the way, when the WTC was first attacked, that was about a couple of months into Clinton’s first term. His administration didn’t waste time blaming Bush Sr. He simply went to work and arrested the people involved.

What’s W’s excuse for not rolling up Bin Laden and Al Queda after 9/11?

W is the flip flopper of the millenia. First he said he wanted Bin Laden dead or alive then he said he doesn’t spend much time thinking about him. That’s a fact.

You’re the one who’s confused and seriously deluded. Put little Johnny away and your poorly constructed “experiment” away and refute my point about the August 6th PDB. It’s a matter of record.

Renee

Yes, Renee your cluelessness is quite breathtaking.

Raymond 08.18.05 at 10:45 am

nyblue: PDB? LOL!! Oh in that case, Call the local news outlets, write your congressmen, put it on every blog, you had better act on the following things that Raymond KNOWS will happen in America:

- A train will derail in a month that ends with an “r.”

- Someone in Ft. Lauderdale will die of cancer next week.

- A middle-eastern terrorist related to the second cousin of Bin Laden’s 3rd wife’s dead sister-in-law’s gay lover will enter the US.

- A thousand illegal aliens from Mexico will enter the US through New Mexico, Arizona, and California in the next few months.

- A plane will crash in the United States sometime in the next 13 months.

- A bomb set off by terrorists will go off on a roadside in Iraq

- Jesse Jackson and members of the Congressional Black Caucus will use the word racist at least 4 times in the next 6 months.

- A bomb will go off in Israel.

And last but not least… “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US”

Let’s go nyblue….Get crankin’ we are in grave danger son! Go tell somebody. Quick.

SCSIwuzzy 08.18.05 at 11:44 am

- Jesse Jackson and members of the Congressional Black Caucus will use the word racist at least 4 times in the next 6 months.
I think you’ve confused months with days, Raymond. ;)

nyblues 08.18.05 at 1:46 pm

Poor Raymond, you seem to have a problem with critical reasoning. Either that or you are in serious denial.

You stated that Clinton was to blame for 9/11. I reminded you of the following points

1) Bush was in office when 9/11 occurred.
2) Bush was warned about that Bin Laden to attack in the US and did nothing with it.

Your conclusion: Blame Clinton.

I’m sure it makes perfect sense in your world.

you had better act on the following things that Raymond KNOWS will happen in America…

And then you mention everything under the sun from the behavior of the Congressional Black Caucus to violence in Israel which I’m sure were foregone conclusions in your mind. And you happen to include Bin Laden’s attack in the US among your list of foregone conclusions.

If 9/11 was a foregone conclusion, then let’s blame Clinton. Never mind forget that Bush was warned and was in office at the time. All roads lead to Clinton. Keep digging.

nyblues 08.18.05 at 1:53 pm

What’s the problem with the Congressional Black Caucus? Some of them have been fighting for equal rights for all Americans since the Civil Rights Era.

Raymond 08.18.05 at 3:25 pm

nyblue, You can believe whatever you have been taught to believe by your handlers. I believe most people saw the 9/11 commission as a sham and that most America knows Clinton had 8 terrorist attacks occur under his watch and the big 9/11 attack planned under his watch and with his knowledge. Believe what you want. It is a free country.

While you were watching the “Find a way to blame GWB Commission,” sane Americans were doing other things like playing golf or cutting the grass. We knew Clinton was responsible for 9/11 just like GWB will be responsible for the next attack…especially if those attackers came from across the Mexican border.

Hey nyblue. Guess what. The MSM knows Clinton was responsible for the 8 terrorist attacks on Americans and 9/11 too.

You can repeat what Chris Matthews and Howard Dean tell you to repeat til the cows come home, but you still lose.

Bill Clinton’s infamous cowardice, second only to Jimmy Carter’s was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans. No he didn’t fly the planes in or plant the bombs, but his obsession with getting “monicas” as opposed to giving Spec Ops Hit Teams the OK within the 1 hour window of opportunity cost the wrong people their lives.

Want further evidence that I am right and you are wrong? Since 1996, the Democrats haven’t won a national election EVEN WHEN Bill CLinton himself campaigns for the candidate.

Democrats thanks to Bill Clinton and the loony libs are no longer trusted with the lives of the American people. Furthermore, I pray you do not think the American people are stupid enough to put that same “man’s” wife in charge of our military and intelligence community.

Snap out of it my man. The gates out of the plantation are open. You have permission to leave.

Raymond 08.18.05 at 3:44 pm

nyblue. Let me try and connect with you on this universal level.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were universally recognized as the worst team in the NFL until after the death of that fat, racist, disgusting worm dirt Hugh Culverhouse, the Glazers brought in a man named Tony Dungy to be the Head Coach of the team. During his 6 year tenure with the Tampa Bay Bucs, Tony turned the team around 180 degrees and turned it into one of the most feared defensive juggernaughts since the 1985 Chicago Bears, but then something terrible happened.

The Bucs couldn’t beat the Eagles in -30 degree weather and a little short dude named Martin Grammatica missed some kicks and Tony dungy was fired. The Bucs then hired some cat named Jon Gruden who the very next year took the Bucs to the Super Bowl and the Bucs lead by its defense totally destroyed the Raiders. Now let me ask you some questions.

1) Who was most responsbile for that SB win?
2) Who drafted the players that won the game?
3) Which team, the offense or the defense scored the most or helped set up the most TDs in that game?
4) Which coach, Dungy or Gruden hired the defensive assistants who remained and coached the players who won that game?
5) And finally, whom do you think the fans in the City of Tampa gave the credit for the win to and which coach also joined in that chorus to give credit where it was due?
6) The next year, Tony Dungy returned to Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium leading his new team the Indianapolis Colts. Which coach received the loudest ovation and which coach won the game?

This analogy, if you are honest in your answers should put it all in perspective for you with regards to Clinton v. Bush.

Renee 08.18.05 at 3:48 pm

getting “monicas”

Classic :-) (And dead on)

nyblues 08.18.05 at 5:18 pm

Raymond, I don’t need handlers, replying to conservatives is child’s play.

How exactly does “winning” a couple of fraudulent elections in 2000 and 2004 validate your point? We all know that were it not for the likes of people like Katherine Harris, Ken Blackwell and a partisan Supreme Court, the idiot boy would be in Crawford permanently instead of screwing up the country.

Additionally, being in the majority doesn’t necessarily make you right. There was a time in this country when the majority thought that slavery was ok. Those people were dead wrong.

Richard Clarke, who’s worked under every administration since Reagan says that both Clinton and the moron in chief’s administrations are to blame.

Had the blame for 9/11 solely rested with Clinton, this corporate controlled media wouldn’t have missed another opportunity to slam him. This Republican Congress spent tens of millions of dollars investigating Clinton and a fraction of that investigating what happened with 9/11. W didn’t even want a commission to investigate 9/11. He flip flopped on that too after pressure from the families.

I can’t imagine the media firestorm if Clinton was in office during 9/11 and he had advanced warning of the attack like W did. People like you would want him crucified. With W, it’s ok. You so-called conservatives grade on the curve with one of your own no matter how incompetent he is.

The bottom line is that the idiot boy was in office for 9 entire months before 9/11 and sat on a warning for a month prior to that. That’s criminal negligence. Then he goes off and attacks a country that had nothing to do with 9/1l and posed no imminent threat to us.

That’s why we in NY know that the moron can’t be trusted to protect us whether or not he “won” an election.

You wanna talk about cowardice take a look at W’s face when he was told a second plane hit the towers.

nyblues 08.18.05 at 5:45 pm

The football analogy doesn’t hold Raymond. W had his own team and actually had a scout warn him of the other team’s moves a month in advance and he ignored that warning. But forget that, let’s blame Clinton.

I thought W was supposed to bring in “a new era of honor and accountability”. Instead we’ve got traitors being protected and people any diseenting voice that was right about Iraq not being a threat being smeared by the right wing media. Never mind that. Let’s blame Clinton. Whatever happened to the days when a president said the buck stops here. With W, it’s the buck stops anywhere but with me.

nyblues 08.18.05 at 6:12 pm

As for Clinton not giving the ok to the Spec Ops team, he listened to advice from his own Pentagon on it and opted out. Clinton regrets it. But he’s also said as much. W can’t and won’t admit mistakes. Neither will you when it comes to him. 9/11 was on W’s watch. W was the commander in chief and he was caught sleeping.

Mr. Miniter also alleges that in the spring and summer of 1998 the Clinton administration was deadlocked over the decision to conduct a special forces mission near a bin Laden camp. Mr. Miniter suggests that the president did not want to overrule Pentagon concerns over risks because he could not “stomach sending thousands of troops into harm’s way.” Mr. Clinton was, in fact, ready and willing to undertake a special forces or other paramilitary assault on bin Laden, particularly after our missile attacks on bin Laden in the summer of 1998, and often pressed his senior military advisers for options. But Mr. Clinton’s top military and intelligence advisers concluded that a commando raid was likely to be a failure, given the potential for detection, in the absence of reliable, predictive intelligence on bin Laden’s whereabouts.
