Because it certainly isn’t “news” to people with IQs higher than 80.
Islamofascists have exploited our lax immigration laws. Oh, no! Whatever.
The report provides newly compiled data on U.S. terror arrests to illustrate gaps (GAPS?) in the nation’s border security, visa approval and immigration systems. It was written by Janice Kephart, who served as counsel to the 9/11 Commission that investigated missteps leading to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
“The attack of 9/11 was not an isolated instance of al-Qaida infiltration into the United States,” the 46-page report found.
“In fact, dozens of operatives both before and after 9/11 – other than the 9/11 hijackers – have managed to enter and embed themselves in the United States, actively carrying out plans to commit terrorist acts against U.S. interests or support designated foreign terrorist organizations,” the report concluded. “For each to do so, they needed the guise of legal immigration status to support them.”(Emphasis added) (Source)
Here’s one lie in the story: “Tightening U.S. borders has become a top priority for Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, who last week called immigration enforcement an issue of utmost importance.”
Bush and his cronies have no intention of “tightening” anything (See A Nation of Outlaws), and if you believe they do, perhaps you’d better have your IQ checked. And I’d like to comment on this statement:
“The department has enacted a slew of programs…to harden immigration laws against terrorists.”
They’ve got it all twisted up. We need to “harden” laws against ALL immigrants, not just terrorists. The Department of Homeland Insecurity, Bush’s big, bloated baby, must put more agents on the border to keep Mexicans and Central Americans out not only for the damage they cause, but to prevent Muslims from jumping the border right along with them.
So what’s the solution, you ask? Well, you know I’m considered an extremist about certain things, and this is one. For the next five years at least, close the borders to immigrants from countries harboring or suspected of harboring Islamofascists. CLOSED, with no exceptions.
Second, scrutinize young men of Middle Eastern descent no matter which country they’re from. I don’t care if they’re from Iceland. Strictly scrutinize them to the point they get bored with the process and change their minds about immigrating.
Third, close and seal the Southern border. Mexicans and Central Americans wanting to enter this great country must get in line and go through the proper channels just like everyone else.
Isn’t it a shame that my suggestions are considered extreme? Evidence of cultural rot.
Two reports, Immigration and Terrorism: Moving Beyond the 9/11 Staff Report on Terrorist Travel and Keeping Extremists Out: The History of Ideological Exclusion, and the Need for Its Revival, will be available for download on the Center for Immigration Studies web site.
Update: Summaries of the first and second reports. Transcript of the panel discussion will be posted later.

Extreme? No, I don’t think so. There are those who would go much further and seal the borders to everyone for five years. That might be a bit much, but I would sign on to your proposals.
La Shawn, I agree with you 100%. All of the terrorists I have read about have lived in many countries, and speak several languages. They are the weapon, they don’t need to import anything into this country to cause mayhem, as improvised explosive devices can be made anywhere from easily available ingredients.
I like your ideas.
“Mexicans and Central Americans wanting to enter this great country must get in line and go through the proper channels just like everyone else.”
La Shawn, I believe one of the reasons your suggestions are considered extreme is that the proper channels so often fail to work right. I’ve heard from multiple people who’ve had to deal with the Immigration & Naturalization Service. Some reported that they’d dealt with very pleasant individuals in the INS, but the INS as a whole universally got bad ratings — every single person I spoke to, to my knowledge and the extent of my memory, said the INS’s service was lousy.
It’s not enough to close down the unofficial channels; we also badly need to reform the official channels, because that’s what’s driving a lot of people into illegal immigration. Some illegal immigrants are indeed undesirable, but right now, many of them are people whom we would otherwise want in our country, who have just gotten so sick of dealing with the INS that they’ve decided to take matters into their own hands. If we get the INS actually working, I think illegal immigration would drop off some. Not go away — there’d still be a need for border enforcement — but I think it would become less of a problem.
Stand Back! I am going to let her rip!
Along with La Shawn’s sealing of the (at least) southern border, I propose stage #2: We ship the “illegal/undocumented” aliens home.
Right now, few jurisdictions fool with them because they are expensive and the feds just release them anyway. That is easily remedied.
Make illegal/undocumented aliens a federal expense. Withhold federal funds from localities who do not arrest them and turn them over to the feds. Reimburse the expenses of the local jurisdictions.
Impound the rounded up illegal/undocumented aliens in regional camps (closed military bases?). Send the felons, gang members, and others back home (by C-111’s) after thoroughly documenting them. For those who have established homes and jobs here, give them a fine, document them and order them to learn English and study for citizenship before releasing them.
Those that countries will not take or those who declare no country of origin will end up in “Camp Limbo” where the Red Cross and the ACLU can scrap over them.
This will require convoys of National Guard trucks and a huge bunch of paper pushers for the initial onslaught as there are said to be 12 million of these people here. But is we can grow the spine to do it, we can certainly carry out the job.
There is no reason Mexico and Central America should have an immigration edge just because of an accident of geography. If Africa was hooked on to the bottom of Arizona, we would be screaming about the Hutus and Tutsis.
#7 Robin Munn: Amen to your comments on the INS.
The INS is over run with politics and it is a paper mill where government union employees are free to vegetate. The government bureaucracy in general is communistic in nature; they have eternal job security and little performance motivation. They can rarely be fired. They put so many systems of redundancy in place that the gears barely turn. Hardly anyone will take leadership. Congressional staffers are jamming “constituent” requests to the front of the line.
This could be greatly cleared up if the INS were placed on the critical mission status that the TSA is on. That way the employees would not be unionized and could be fired. The Democrats would fight it tooth and nail.
La Shawn
911 was less about immigration – most were here LEGALLY.
911 was more about idiotic Federal obstruction to serious information-sharing.
Tightening the border is needed, but it will not stop LEGAL TERRORISTS.
A rational approach to security is needed – we sure don’t have one now.
Don’t forget the Canadian border! Our good friends in Canada who won’t lift a finger to help us.
Extreme, would be saying that all foreigners are causing a general problem in the United States.
Foreigners do take jobs away from natural born citizens. I have yet to meet anyone at my local City Hall who speaks native born English, without an accent. —I’m considered a racist for pointing that out.
P.S. I love the new spell-check. Assuming it is in fact, new, and my mind isn’t playing tricks on me. It’s nice that there’s still a few of us that actually care about proper English!
Two facts stand out like sore thumbs relation to the murderers of 911: 1. All Muslim. 2. All illegal aliens.
How can a person say they want to win the War on Terror if they do not want to prevent another sneak attack in America by illegal aliens? If the border is not secure they can sneak in again.
You go, girl!!
Frank, so we have a legal immigrant with a student visa, with a degree in architecture, who suddenly wants to be a pilot, of large jets, and shows up at a flight school and pays for his tuition with $50,000 in cash! Oh yeah, he is a Muslim, originally from Egypt, and a single man in his twenties! Now what do we do?
‘Siyo Friends, we NDN’s had bad immigration laws and look where that got us. So the new Americans had better review history and learn from our mistakes. Bear
Great blog

Extreme?? I think NOT!
I have stated many times, BUSH should be IMPEACHED, and I voted for th DUDE, Twice!! He is Right On when it comes to the WOT, but to ask our Military Men and Women to make the Ultimate Sacrifice while he opens the back door to more Terrorists is Criminal and Disgusting!! He swore to Uphold and Enforce the laws of this Nation!!
This is in addition to the Economic Damage these Alliens are inflicting on this country!! Guess what, No Strong Economy, No strong Defense!!
It goes Hand in Hand!
Sorry La Shawn, here we differ. Closing the border to everyone from a specific country is nothing more than discrimination. At the risk of pulling your hated race card, closing the border to all Syrians because some are terrorists is rather like refusing to hire all black people because some steal TVs. The disconnect between what you hope to accomplish, and how you’re hoping to accomplish it, is staggering.
What about those people legitimately trying to escape from the despotism and culture of terror? Would you close the door on the brightest, democratically-minded Syrians too?
Jimbo Says
“What about those people legitimately trying to escape from the despotism and culture of terror? Would you close the door on the brightest, democratically-minded Syrians too? ”
Kick them back to Syria where they can fight to straighten out their HOMELAND. If the people who cut and run to America and other places would stand up and fight they could fix where they are now instead of having to run away.
Without the safty valve of the US many these countries whould face the revolutions that they NEED.
Tough? Yes. Bloody? Yes. But without those revolutions NOTHING WILL CHANGE!!!
Don’t run from tyrants, KILL THEM!
Dan, Right-on Bro!
There’s not alot you and I agree on politically, but I do agree with you on the closing of the southern border, as a native Texan, I can attest to the problems caused by illegal immigrants from Mexico and other southern nations. If Bush is really serious about protecting the nation from terrorists, then I think our military would be of better use protecting our own borders, not fighting in a country that still hasn’t been proven to be a threat to our homeland.
Robin said: “many of them are people whom we would otherwise want in our country, who have just gotten so sick of dealing with the INS that they’ve decided to take matters into their own hands.”
I know those types of people you’re talking about–I’ve met those types, but they weren’t from Mexico or Central America. The illegal immigrants that La Shawn are talking about are the people who jump over the border and never have any intention of going through proper channels because they know they wouldn’t have a chance that way. They also want to jump over in time so that their kids can be born here so that they can tell La Migra that their kids are Americans, why would you want to split up our family, etc.
Basically, if Bush, his buddies, and the non-Republicans who are for illegal immigration lived around them, sent their kids to school with them, had to deal with them other than hiring them, they wouldn’t condone it. It’s like a computer: it looks nice in front, but the back is all tangled wires.
I have to say you’re right on this. Illegals are taking jobs away from us. We should also do something about companies that are outsourcing our jobs to other countries. I’m not sure who I was dealing with when I bought my computer (Dell), but I’m sure he was overseas.
Yes, please stop the suicidal insanity. Every word you said is correct, La Shawn. I am getting the creeps from our leaders and their lack of desire to protect us from open borders and also from their inability to identify our enemy as islam. Now is the time to stop this! Get the enemy out of the USA, drop all pretense of law and just get them out of here, islam and south of the border people too. It is a war. Sort it out later, after we have won.
The day the ‘dirty bomb’ goes off in Los Angeles, New York, Washington,D.C., Chicago, or Boise for that matter, is the day something will be done about it.
Don’t believe me? Look at the Republicans since seizing control of Congress ten years ago. They have almost totally reneged on the ‘contract with America’, are spending like drunken sailors, and are refusing to take any threats, foreign or domestic, military or cultural, economic or moral, seriously.
They have, in short, become Democrats while the Democrats have become Socialists. Norman Thomas would be proud.
Illegals are taking jobs away from us. We should also do something about companies that are outsourcing our jobs to other countries. I’m not sure who I was dealing with when I bought my computer (Dell), but I’m sure he was overseas.
America First! What a joke. How ironic it is that the same week someone in Las Vegas is handing me handbills exhorting Bush to bring the troops from Iraq and put them on the Mexican border, the woman cleaning my room speaks no english. I bet that woman took the job Chuch was trying to get.
Your Dell computer was put together in Austin, TX of parts made mostly in the US, China, and Indonesia. If it were made exclusively of US parts, do you really think they could have sold it to you for $699.00?
